Why the Owner Chose Nakusp: Susan and I were looking for something that we could do together as a couple. I had owned a fishing camp in a previous life and suggested we look around British Columbia for a small accommodation business. This was the first property that we looked at on our vacation the summer of 2003 through southern BC and to Vancouver Island. On our way back home we decided to have another look.
The trip had been noisy and the traffic was heavy every where we went. As we turned off to go south to Nakusp, we immediately noticed that the traffic dropped off to nothing. We pulled up to the ferry landing, shut off the engine and got out of the truck. Our ears were assaulted by the amazing quiet and stillness. While waiting at the ferry landing we realized that there was only one small fishing boat on the lake for as far as the eye could see. The ferry itself gives you the sense that you are entering a different part of the Province.
All other places in BC disappeared from our minds and Rock Island Resort became ours shortly after.
