The title is absolutely correct! This was the perfect beach cottage for the Christmas week vacation... right down to the house being decorated for the season. For a dog lover, this is the place to stay at Folly Beach with the beach access a few feet away from the front yard and the marsh to the rear. Charming decor with every conceivable convenience available...even items for your dog if by chance you forgot your dogs favorite ball or toy! I would recommend this property and would most definitely rent it again!

My husband and I and our pups had a wonderful stay at this house. Everything was so CLEAN and comfortable. There were so many thoughtful touches that made us and our dogs feel pampered right away. High quality linens, a plush king size bed, plenty of soft towels, a well equipped kitchen, a large dog kennel, many dog toys, TV's in every room, even an I pod dock in the bedroom for us to plug in our tunes! We had an awesome boiled shrimp lunch on the rooftop overlooking the tidal marsh. We walked our dogs on the beach that was right across the street. We borrowed their kayaks to peruse the tidal marsh. The owner was extremely helpful and responsive to all our concerns when booking the house. She was also extremely prompt in returning our refundable deposit (we treated the house like our own!) She even gave us a welcome call to make sure we had everything we needed! We would definitely go back and have already recommended the house to some friends! It is so refreshing to find a rental property that is dog friendly and so well kept!!! The decor was so unique and quaint and we really appreciated all the hard work that goes with maintaining a rental property that makes its guests feel so relaxed and at home on vacation. Great job Leonie and Lee!!!

This is our second time staying at the perfect beach cottage and it truly feels like home to us. As ususal the home was immaculate and even though pet friendly, it would have been impossible to tell that except for the provided crate and all the charming decor that we dog lovers are so fond of. Comfortable beds with quality linens including towels and beach towels. If you have ever had to rent linens or bring your own from home you know what a wonderful thing having great linens provided is. As usual all we needed to bring was our clothes as anything else you would need is there. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, paper towels, laundry detergent and softener sheets are just the beginning, there was even a hair dryer and hair spray which I took advantage of. The owner, Leonie, is wonderful to work with. The location is quiet and peaceful and the rooftop deck has gorgeous views of both marsh and ocean, especially at sunset. We are already looking at dates for next year. I have rented condos and homes from Clearwater, Destin, Pawleys Island and more over the last 30 years and I have never been more satisfied than with this cottage. I highly recommend this property!

We just returned from a week in the Perfect Beach Cottage and although the weather wasn't perfect, the house was! Nicely furnished, spotless, comfortable beds, covered porches with good chairs, plenty of room and almost everything you could want in the kitchen. The whole experience was a good one and make even better by the warm welcome for a dog or two. And an easy trip into Charleston for all it has to offer.

The title reflects the fact that during our stay in SC we were teaching our US friends' kids a few English phrases, and this one, that the kids repeated often, sums up our trip to Folly. We had stayed for a week in Garden City before travelling down so thought we knew what to expect. However the reality far surpassed our expectations. Folly is a gorgeous little town with all the amenities we could wish for. The cottage is a real home from home - all mod cons and appliances, very effective air-con and the first holiday home I have stayed in where you truly can just turn up with your clothes, toothbrushes and a bit of food as everything else is provided. Coming all they way from the UK this was a huge bonus as it kept the weight down on our luggage for the trip to the US, leaving plenty of room for the souvenirs going home! As other reviewers have stated, there is little or no evidence of the dog-friendliness of this home, other than the decor - spotlessly clean throughout. The only tiny niggle was mosquitos - but soon sorted with 25% DEET, but make sure to take it to the beach with you to spray on before you come home or risk being bitten before you can walk up the stairs, as happened to us on our first foray out. Can highly recommend the cottage and also the following amenities (mostly food related!!): Bert's market, The Grill, Lost Dog Cafe, Rita's, Bowen's Island restaurant, Pan Garden Chinese; Piggly Wiggly (just because it has a much better name than Tesco which is what we get in the UK!), Cece's Pizza (Mount Pleasant, eat as much as you like, bargain!!), Kaminski's in Charleston (cakes and cocktails to die for), River Dogs baseball, and best of all - Flipper finders sunset dolphin tour. Cap'n Richard found dolphins within 10 minutes of us getting on the boat and this was the highlight of our vacation. Saving hard for the next visit!! Leonie, hope you will have us back but shhhhh!! don't tell too many other English visitors - we want it to stay our little secret!!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your kind review.Of course we would be delighted to welcome you back any time. About 60% of guests are repeat some coming multiple times a year feeling ownership rights! Yes those mosquitos are pesky but I do hope views from the decks at sunset were worth it. Next time you come I will have to introduce to some real southern soul food, the type that packs on a few lbs but is worth every bite. So glad you found Folly and enjoyed it and our home so much ,with regards, till you come again Leonie

The cottage was wonderful and every amenity was there right down to Bubble bath in the Master bath. All linens were top notch as well as a king bed that was more comfortable than being at home. We loved sunsts over the marsh and tea on the front porch in AM & walking the beaches enjoying all the natural beauty! Our Doodle loved the dog friendly environment and the owner of the property was very proactive & responsive to any need we may have had. I highly recommend this property and its in a great location and there's true pride in ownership of this property.

My husband, son, daughter-in-law and Jack Russell Buddy just returned from the perfect beach cottage. It was our first trip to Folly Beach and we were thrilled with our accommodations. We have stayed at several pet friendly houses in Pawleys Island and this cottage was so much nicer but the surroundings were very laid back like Pawleys. Some of the things I particularly liked about this great beach house were: very comfy beds with nice sheets and towels including beach towels. Paper towels, garbage bags, bug spray, dish and laundry detergent, softener sheets, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and sunscreen were all provided which really helps with making room for four people and a dog in one vehicle. The furnishings are great quality and very comfortable along with being cheerful and stylish. Loved all the porches, the rooftop deck was a great place to watch the sunset. Proximity to the beach was quick and easy. Very dog friendly but as others have noted, you would never know a dog had been there before you. The owner was great to work with and very accessible. The small town of Folly Beach had some cute restaurants but a quick trip to Charleston gives you true world class dining. However breakfast at Lost Dog Cafe cannot be beat anywhere. I truly loved this beach cottage and hope to stay there again and again.

We recently stayed at this wonderful cottage and were happy to find it so well equipped. It almost seemed the owners had just left, considering all the amenities that were included such as spices in the cabinets. It is truly a beach cottage, do remember to take some mosquito repellent, though, as it is the beach. Hope to go back next year.

We have certainly found our folly in this pet-friendly paradise, which is so "dog-gone" cute and comfortable, that we can't stand the thought of our departure...and neither can Gus, our black lab. The ocean breezes here are heaven-sent, and are best appreciated on the rooftop, where beautiful sunrises and sunsets abound. With young children, we were thrilled to find that this cozy, yet spacious, cottage is only a short walk to the beach~where we spent the majority of our time playing in the waves. We were thrilled to find that the beach, on this end of Folly, wasn't crowded AT ALL. There are also wonderful restaurants, only a short drive away. We loved going to The Lost Dog Cafe, for breakfast and lunch. Take your dog and sit outside! There are dog bowls full of water just waiting to make sure your pooch is pampered... We also enjoyed Rita's and Mexican food at Taco Boy (fun atmosphere)! There are fabulous dining opportunities, only 20 minutes away, in Charleston as well. We highly recommend Magnolia's Restaurant; the fried green tomatoes were unbelievably delicious! Our children had an absolute ball splashing, playing, and soaking themselves in the pineapple fountain in Charleston. We also recommend having a cocktail or a cold malt beverage at The Rooftop Bar, that sits atop the Vendue Inn and overlooks beautiful Charleston. My husband and I LOVED having a screened porch, right off the master bedroom; it's the perfect reading nook or a place to appreciate that morning cup-o-jo. All the comforts of home are here, and Leonie, owner of "Unleashed," was always quick to respond with an e-mail, or a call, if we had any questions about our stay. She is an excellent communicator and clearly cares about the comfort level of her guests. This place is clean and well-maintained, and is decorated in the perfect Maine-cottage style. The Dog theme can be found in the wall decor, the doormats, the dishes, the fun floor cloths, and even in all of the children's games and puzzles. My children must have played 50 games of DOG UNO! The size of the huge kennel was amazing, and Leonie even provided some linens for the dog. However, if you want to bring your beloved furry companion, but are concerned about your dog's care while you make a day trip, we suggest boarding your dog for the day at nearby Folly Animal Hospital. The staff was professional, and our dog even got a bath while we were in Charleston for the day! We had the perfect vacation!!!

Our family had the perfect stay at the Perfect Beach Cottage. You really get the best of both worlds with the beach in your front yard (across the street) and the marsh in your backyard. We ate all our meals outside on the front porch with great views and a nice breeze. The rooftop deck also gave way to magnificient sunsets and of the Morris Island Lighthouse. The extras that come with this house are unmatchable with any other rental I have had before- nice towels, laundry & dish detergent, TP, papertowels, Shampoo, beach towels, etc. Our 3 year old Goldendoodle was thrilled to be able to be apart of the family vacation too. I was worried that the kennel might not be big enough for him, but it was HUGE. I highly reccomend this rental.

This cottage has it all. Spotlessly clean with everything you could dream of needing. If you bring your dog he will feel right at home. Beds were very comfortable with beautiful sheets. The view of the marsh from the top deck is outstanding! We loved the back screened in porch and had dinner on the front porch several nights. The house is not as small as you think; space is used wisely. I loved the colors; blues, pinks yellows..very cheery. We miss it already. Also, you have a view of the ocean and you can hear it. Rita's has great cheeseburgers, Taco Boy has great tacos...otherwise, unless you like fried seafood I would suggest driving (25minutes) into Charleston for dinner. Our favorite is Lana's. It's quiet and has the BEST risotto you can eat. Also The Fat Hen on Johns Island is fantastic, but a bit of a drive (40min) but we thought well worth it. If you like garlic get the escargot. Regardless, you can't go wrong. These owners take a great deal of pride in their wonderful house.
Owner response:Thank you,yes we do take a great deal of pride in providing a great house for or guests and really do appreciate and live for comments such as yours.Glad you had a good time in our little piece of heaven, best wishes Leonie

We just returned from our first vacation (four days) at the "Perfect Beach Cottage" -- and it was exactly that. The house was well maintained, immaculate, and totally equipped with every possible item needed (including an emergency sewing kit!). Sunsets over the marshes were amazing to watch from the back porch and second floor deck. There is a new pier for walks to the marsh, very nice. The owner Lee provided helpful info in advance and is truly dog-friendly. Our little "quarter pounder" rescue poodle had a ball in the fenced yard and at the beach. He also was welcome all over town, especially at the Lost Dog Cafe and the Folly Beach Crab Shack. Both had great food and wonderful friendly service. We can't wait to go back!
Owner response:Glad enjoyed our home .Thanks you so much for being such great guests. We would love to have you back anytime and yes there is nowhere quiet like Folly its just so relaxing.

"Unleashed" is the most accommodating beach cottage we have ever stayed in! My husband appreciated the internet connection, flat screen TV, and especially liked the decorator porthole near the entrance. As the woman of the house, I loved the newer appliances, as well as the unexpected blender, coffee grinder, waffle iron, etc. Great towels and bedding too. Our host has certainly anticipated every possible guest need. Speaking for our dog, his favorite things were the two screened porches where he could guard his vacation home, and being close to the beach for his daily walks. Even though we visited in January with cooler temperatures, the sun was out almost every day. Lots to see and do while staying in Folly with the proximity to Charleston. Good tours, restaurants, and history abound. I would recommend this cozy beach cottage to everyone. It was AWSM!

What a wonderful beach cottage. For starters, I'm not a dog person (cat person) and you'd never know this house was dog friendly if you didn't see the dog crate and zillions of dog related items. By that I mean it is so clean and well maintained, you'd never know a person had been in there, much less an animal. I'll list a few things that are rare, as I've rented over 20 beach houses on Folly over the years from companies, etc.: -The sheets and comforter smell like detergent..yes the comforter. -The grill and smoker were ones you'd be proud to use at your house. Rare! -The yard was neat and clean. -Plenty of amenities to take to the beach (bocce ball, chairs, fun, etc) -Clean and modern appliances -Awesome TV -Clean and new furniture/comfortable beds -Never ending hot showers -Beautiful view Obviously I could go on and on... This is a home, not a house. You will love this place and I will stay again and again. You will not be disappointed!

We enjoyed our week at Folly very much! The Perfect Beach Cottage is a great vacation home! Well equipped kitchen, eating in was a pleasure. Linens and towels of excellent quality. Good size for a small family or group of 4 or 5. Beautiful views of the marsh from the rooftop deck. New dock on the marsh. There are kayaks if that is your thing. Nice sized back yard for dogs, fenced except for marsh side, to play if you bring them. Beautiful beach not littered at all. We tried Locklears Restaurant on the Folly Pier and ate on the oceanside deck. The food was good; the view was gorgeous! Again a wonderful vacation in a beautiful beach cottage. Would highly recommend.

I spent some time in this lovely house and I can't tell you how very much I enjoyed it! It was very clean and comfortable, my dogs loved it, and so did I. It was so perfect. It really was. The owner has taken the time to put a lot of details into the house. I plan on going back every year! I loved going up on the upper deck and watching the sunset over the marsh and then looking at the stars. It's just a very short walk to the beach. Very quiet and lovely!

A truly "perfect" beach house. This house was casual, comfortable and exceptionally dog friendly. The setting is everything one would want in a beach house, from it's front porch, where we spent a lot of time relaxing, to it's back porch with a pleasant view of the back yard. It was equipped and furnished with a great deal of thought to guests. Quality towels and bed linens were provided and the kitchen was well equipped for preparing and serving meals. Emergency toiletry supplies were provided just in case you forgot something. The house decor is whimsical with a "doggy" theme. Even if you don't bring your dogs, you'll appreciate how dog friendly the beach house is. This house is so welcoming, you will feel at home right away. In addition, everything was super clean and well maintained both inside and outside. It was a pleasure to stay here and we hope to visit again. For what this house offers, it is both a jewel and a bargain!

We found this cottage very comfortable and pet-friendly. The house was nicely furnished with everything we needed. There were many extras that other rentals do not provide. It was great to have a nice clean, made-up bed to sleep in when we arrived. The beds were comfortable and the bedding clean and soft. Our dog found a large kennel to sleep in, which she enjoyed. The screened in back deck was nice to sit in without having to worry about bugs. The sunset view was beautiful. The view from the roof deck was amazing. We actually watched a meteor shower from there one night. Everyone on Folly Beach is very friendly. We met a lot of people out walking their dogs on the beach in the mornings and evenings. The homeowner is so nice and it was great to actually talk to the person who owned the home. We would definitely stay here again!
Owner response:I'm a little envious about the meteor shower ,guess I will have to spend more time on the top deck when there myself. Glad you enjoyed everything ,we do go to extra details and its comments like this that make all the extra work worthwhile ,thanks Leonie

We just returned from a week at the perfect beach cottage. We are extremely impressed with the amenities that made the house feel so homey. This place is all about the details; the kitchen was the best stocked kitchen we’ve seen, the sheets and towels are so soft, nice colorful beach towels and beach chairs, shampoo, conditioner and even an “emergency kit” that really came in handy when we forgot the aloe Vera! The owner was extremely responsive to questions and needs. This house is made for relaxing and when not walking the beach, we watched the rain from the front porch rocking chairs. We had little motivation to go out however we did enjoy a little crepe stand, “Tokyo Crepes” for a great late night dessert and you can’t visit Folly without breakfast at the Lost Dog. Whether you are driving or traveling by plane, the perfect beach cottage will feel like home.

I don't know where to start about this beautiful place. The location is perfect - right across from the beach and away from the center of town. When we walked into the house, we couldn't believe it. Everything you could possible need was wrapped up into this whimsical get-away, right down to the doggy themed dishes. Even though we didn't meet the owners, we felt like we were guests in the finest hotel - everything you need is provided, including shampoo, dish and laundry detergent and great linens. The place is spotless. There are three porches from which to watch the changing views. Breakfast on the porch facing the ocean, cocktails on the back porch in the evening to view the fabulous sunsets. Also great views from the landing on top of the house. Before we got to Folly Beach, we were planning to spend a lot of time in Charleston. After seeing the house and Folly Beach, those plans changed quickly. Who would want to go anywhere away from that comfortable house. And the sleeping - the sound of the ocean just lulls you to sleep. It was the first trip for the dogs to the ocean. It was so much fun seeing them run on the beach. Being March, there were very few dogs or people on the beach, so they ran free most of the time. The town of Folly Beach is small, but they have plenty of restaurants. Don't miss Taco Boy - great food and drink. It was a fantastic vacation in a beautiful home. Hope to return some day. Thank you for your hospitality.
Owner response:I was so pleased with this review as it was a repeat of what all our guests say either to us in our follow up phone calls or in our in house guestbook but so few guests have actually written about. We have so many repeat guests in this home that we have learnt that most do not want to post great comments like this on the web as they want to keep the house to themselves . We really therefore appreciate those guests who are willing to take the time and trouble and share our home as well as those who have recommended our house to their friends and family. This guest came on the recommendation of one of our repeat guests and we thank them both so very much

We enjoyed our three week stay. The house is exceptionally well-equipped for renters--not just the usual kitchenware and linens but also personal care products, laundry supplies, etc. Appliances are of recent vintage, furniture is good, house is nicely decorated. It's located in the best section of Folly Beach; quiet and near a public walkway to the beach. Instructions and other information in the house shows an interest in helping renters enjoy their stay.

I have rented beach houses or condos near Charleston since 1980 and this Folly Beach "Mediterranean Villa" property is the best appointed home yet. From the comfy sheets, extra towels, shower gel & shampoos, to the nice, large appliances and helpful instructions throughout the house, we felt very much at home. And, what a wonderful surprise to find such a nice home that also welcomed dogs. The tiled bottom floor, gated staircase, dog towels & toys, etc. certainly made for a dog-friendly home. For the last 15 years or so, 5 college friends from various part of the US come together for Thanksgiving week, so the kitchen is a focal point of these reunions. The chefs in the group really appreciated the well-appointed kitchen. It was nice to be within easy walking distance of downtown Folly Beach and its very walkable beach. The property owners, the Buckleys, are very accommodating and responsive. I look forward to returning to their South Carolina "Mediterranean Villa."

We stayed here in May 2007 and had a great time. The house is very comfortable with extra touches like top-quality linens, very well-equipped kitchen that added to our enjoyment. The 2 screened porches and the fenced backyard were a real plus as well. And I also like the secure keypad lock on the house - no key to risk losing! The location was just right for us - very quiet, right across from the beach, and only around 15-20 minutes to the get to the historic district of Charleston so we felt like we had the best of both worlds.

We found The Perfect Beach House to be exactly what we were looking for: a well-appointed "cottage" for all in the family, even for our furry family member, Bella. We found the beds to be comfortable, the kitchen to be very nicely equipped, and the screened-in porch to be most enjoyable all around! Even the location of the home is perfect--far enough away from the public access to avoid all of the traffic and noise, yet close enough to "town" so that it was a very easy drive. This was our first stay at Folly and I can guarantee that it will not be our last. We look forward to our return to The Perfect Beach House very soon.

Well, it's been 2 1/2 years since our glorious vacation at your Folly Beach cottage. It has been a wonderful memory that has lasted. We have had a long, cold winter in Maine...are planning to schedule some time in that beach house of yours. Lola (our golden doodle) misses the sandy beach under our snow. Count us in in 2008! Thanks for the memories!

We had a great time and really enjoyed all the "over the top" accomodations that this cottage offered. From beautiful linens to a fully equipped kitchen, there was just not much missing from this beach experience. For a pet friendly (dog paraphanelia galore) environment, we were really bowled over. We highly recommend this beach retreat for you and your "pooch."

We took our three very well-behaved senior dogs with us and had the best vacation we've had in years! The house was very welcoming and relaxing, nice and breezy. Neighborhood is quiet and laid back and the house is only steps to the beach. Owners of the house have taken great care to ensure guests are comfortable with whimsical decor, quality linens, cable TV, comfy furniture, etc. It was an excellent experience!

I stayed at this adorable cottage last August with our dogs. This home was perfect for those of us who enjoy taking our dogs (well-behaved of course) with us on vacation. I couldn't have asked for any better. We had everything we could have asked for and more. Owner goes over and beyond in providing everything to make us comfortable and feel at home. I love this cottage and plan to return this August for another stay. The peace and quiet of being a little off the beaten path was nice as well. Short walk across the street to the beautiful, quiet beach. Highly recommend this rental. You won't be disappointed.

This was the perfect house for my family. It was very clean and well-maintained. There were no property while we were there. Everything in the ad was correct. There were lots of things to do around town, and it was only a few miles to downtown Charleston, although we spent most of our time on the beach! It was close to the ocean (just across the street) and was very pet-friendly. The owner had notes all over so you didn't have to guess what to do, etc. She was very very easy to work with and a very friendly person. We had an awesome time and will return in the future. I would recommend this property to anyone.

We were very pleased with our location, and that the cottage was clean and "well stocked" for cooking & dining in. It was very comfortable for our pet "Maggie Mae", and with all the "doggie decor" she felt surrounded by love & assurance that she was indeed welcomed to share in our joy at the beach! We would definitely reccomend renting this property, and we certainly would again.
Owner response:The Mercers like so many of our wonderful guests were a delight to deal with and it is comments like these that keep us striving for perfection .Thanks

"Fabulous, Fun and Cozy. We adored this clean, well-cared for whimsical cottage. It feels very spacious indoors and has tons of useable out door space in two screen porches and a large private yard. We experienced spectacular views of brilliant red and purple sunsets over the lush lime marsh. And, we thoroughly enjoyed the ocean breeze and star gazer's paradise above the rooftop porch.
