This LUXURY BEACHFRONT home is located on the best surfing beach in Costa Rica! In fact, this home is so close to the beach ,you can hear and see the spectacular sight of these sought out waves crashing on the beach. The beach is so close to the house that opportunity awaits for you to enjoy daily strolls or jogs on this beautiful and clean beach. From the new upper deck, you can relax and enjoy the view for miles and witness breath-taking sunsets each evening. Spend time relaxing by our new swimming pool while you enjoy watching the waves crash on the beach.
This air conditioned home is four years old and approximately 3100 square feet. It is located in a new-gated development with security. A safe is also available in the house to store your valuable possessions.
The floor plan is large and open. There are four bedrooms and three and a half baths. The master bedroom has a king bed. The second master bedroom has a king bed and the third and fourth bedrooms each have two twin beds. For your convenience, there is also a washer and dryer located in the home.
The kitchen is spacious and includes a large side-by-side refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc. There is plenty of room to sit at the granite counter in the kitchen. You may want to enjoy your meal outside up on the deck while watching the sizable waves or gorgeous sunsets. The view from outside is truly spectacular!
HANDICAPPED FRIENDLY. The house and yard are handicap friendly. There are no steps. The doors and hallways are wide. For added convenience, there is a large shower.
Hermosa Beach, where this home is located, is a world-class surfing beach that hosts international competitions. Since the waves are enormous, surfers from all over the world seek out this beach everyday. Even if you don't surf, it is very entertaining to watch the waves and the surfers.
Located at the Northern end of the beach, there are several "Beach Boy" style bars and restaurants. You can relax, watch the surfers, and enjoy the sunset.
At the southern end of the beach is a new turtle preserve. During the season that the turtles come and lay their eggs, volunteers come help move the eggs to a safe place. The volunteers take care of the eggs until they hatch.
If you are a beginner surfer, you will enjoy JACO Beach, which is located to the north only one and a half miles. The waves here are milder. In addition, you will discover a wide assortment of restaurants, shopping, ATM/banking, internet cafes, nightclubs, bakery, pharmacy, medical services, churches, etc. in this town.
Wildlife can be discovered everywhere. Iguanas and geckos can be seen all around. For those with an adventuresome side, crocodile safaris are also available. If you stop by the Crocodile bridge, you can see crocodiles.
We highly recommend for you to experience a guided Canopy tour! You are hooked up to a cable with the safety of a harness. As you travel along the zip line, you go from one tree platform to the next. It is quite a thrill!
In addition, you can further experience Costa Rica by bird watching, sea kayaking, white water rafting, visit national parks, or relax in the hot spring pools located by the volcano.
To help you get settled in for your stay, we have a wonderful Hospitality professional to greet you for your check in and provide a customized welcome basket tailored to your needs. They will be available throughout your stay. For your convenience, arrangements can be made to have the kitchen stocked with food for your arrival. Maid/cooking services are also available. They are fluent in English and Spanish.

Just returned from beautiful Playa Hermosa and Casa Horner. Having two kids 20 and 17,we always rent a condo or house on vacation. Sometimes they're not quite up to par but this home was wonderful. Very spacious and clean with it's own little mini rainforest right next to the house. We walked the small path behind the home at least once daily and saw lots of monkeys, red macaws, parrots and even some sort of wild black cat that resembled a panther. Daily visits by the iguanas sunning on the balcony and roof were entertaining as were the gorgeous views of some of the largest waves in Costa Rica. They were huge. The nightlife in Jaco was a very short, although sometimes scary, drive with lots of windy roads, bicycle riders and pot holes....but hey, that was all part of the adventure.Tours are very close, the Chiclets zip tour was really fun, Jungle ATV in Jaco a blast (see if you can get Johnny as your guide..really a fun guy)and don't miss Manual Antonio Park and white water rafting...King Tours has a good one. Be really careful on the fishing, can be a major rip off especially if your guide speaks no English, as was our experience, and the Serenity Spa was another major disappointment. We all felt very safe swimming in the very clean pool at night, especially with Herman and the other armed guards that watch the house at night. It was a bit freaky the first time we pulled up and saw an armed gunman, but they were really nice and did a great job. This is a great house as it was centrally located, but if you're the kind that likes to lounge and boogie board in the ocean everyday, Playa Hermosa is not the place for you. Jaco is much better for that kind of activity and close enough if you want to go a couple of times during your trip. If you want a gorgoeous home that's close to all the action and a great place to come home to after a day of adventure, Casa Horner is a great choice.Did you find this review helpful? We had an awesome 8 days at Casa Hornor. We had a group of 8 people and the house was a perfect fit. Susan was so helpful in giving us tons of information regarding the house and Costa Rica in general. She suggested renting a car from Zuma and it was perfect!! They were so nice and it was awesome to be driven to Jaco from San Jose...and also you get the perks of parking for free whenever you want to go into town. The hosts were extremely nice, although we didn't really need anything. The house was stocked with everything that we needed. The security guard was super nice. It was fun watching the surfers right across the street and Hermosa is a beautiful beach. If you go to Jaco, check out the restaurant Pili Pili. It was delicious!! Thanks again for sharing your awesome home with us!!!! We loved it!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Always glad to hear a report of another great vacation at one of my vacation rentals. Thanks for the recommendation of Pili Pili, i have not eaten there. I will check it out next time too.

We just returned from a two-week stay at Casa Hornor. The house was lovely and was as described on the VRBO web site. Since there were eight of us in our party, we rented two cars from "Zuma". They are great folks to deal with and will pick you up and take you back to the airport as part of your rental contract. It was great to get up in the morning and be able to walk across the street and have the Pacific Ocean at your feet. The weather was perfect, the sunsets were spectacular. It is a surfer's Paradise. Though none of us were surfers, we enjoy watching all the surfers who showed up every morning across the street-many of them I assumed getting a little surfing and before going to work. Our group engaged in zip lining, horseback riding, ATVing, and of course, a visit to Manuel Antonio state park. A visit to this park is a must. The town of Jaco was 10 to 12 minutes by car and had just about anything that you would need. We found the best grocery store to use was "Auto Mercato" in Los Seunos-about 15 miles from the house. The store carried many of the items that you would find in a supermarket in the US. Gary and Marielos Kurtz were helpful in providing any information that we needed about the area. None of us spoke Spanish and this was occasionally a problem but all in all we managed just fine. We will definitely return to Costa Rica again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

My family and I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Costa Rica staying at the Casa Hornor. We had a great time and the house was perfect. Everyone had their own bedroom with 2 on one side of the house and the other two on the opposite side. We all had plenty of room and lots of space to stretch out and be comfortable. Susan, all the information that you gave us was great and helped us in many ways. The best advise was to use ZUMA rental for our cars. We needed two. They were great and picked us up from the airport and took us back when we were leaving. Mario was a wonderful driver. I'm not sure that we could have gotten to Jaco from the airport without Zuma and Mario. Also in the same building right behind Zuma is a great massage salon. We all got massages and I had two! The massage therapists were great, way better than some I've had in the states. So anyone renting a car from Zuma, check out the massage salon sometime during your stay!!! The location of your home was absolutely wonderful. It was near to everything we wanted to do and see. The resturants in Jaco and Playa Hermosa were so near that we went to a different one almost everyday. My family loves to eat authentic foods and we did!! From the fish tacos to the banana pancakes we felt as if we were in Heaven. The people in Costa Rica were great, the food is fantastic, the beaches were beautiful with their black sand and the waves were awesome. All in all we had a wonderful vacation. Thanks again Susan for allowing us to stay in your home in Playa Hermosa. We will never forget our week there!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

I just returned from a wonderful week long vacation in Costa Rica. We stayed at the "Casa Hornor" in Playa Hermosa, which is located 10-15 minutes from Jaco. The house is located across the street from a beautiful beach that stretches as far as you can see in either direction. Aside from another house located next door, the house is secluded and private. The house has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths and comfortably sleeps 8 adults. We spent most of our time in the pool or at the beach. We were also happy that the house provided a washer and dryer, dishwasher, air conditioning, BBQ grill, cable TV, and WIFI. This is a great house for a family or large group. We would love to rent this house again in the future.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at our beach front home. We try to provide all the things that you would need to make your vacation a greaat vacation. Hope to see you back soon.

This house was everything it says in the ad and then some. There were 6 of us and we were so glad to pay a little extra money and get the house with the lookout. The views were incredible from the ground floor, but even better in the lookout. We spent a lot of time up there watching the surfers right across the street. The house and surrounding area was very clean and well-maintained. It was nice to have a pool in addition to the beach. This house is perfect for almost any combination of people- families with kids, adults, even older people who may want everything on the ground floor. It was an easy walk across the street to the beach. It is definitely a very popular surf spot- but not crowded. The location was excellent- off the beaten path, but still within just a few minutes of anything you need. There are many restaurants and sight seeing adventures within 5-10 minutes of the house. When my husband and I first visited this area in 1995, there were no houses, hotels or restaurants in this area. To go to this surf spot, you would pay the kids at the gate a few bucks and they would let you in. The area still has that same secluded feel, but now there are actually things close by. We cannot wait to plan our next trip.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Always good to hear how the house was what you expected or better.

Just returned from this beautiful home after staying there New Years 2008-09. We had a group of 8 adults and couldn't have been happier. This home is GORGEOUS and this site really doesn't do it justice! The home was much more spacious than the photos make it look, the location is unbeatable (close enough to Jaco to get food/entertainment, far enough away that you feel like you're on your own private beach), and the home had everything you could ever want (internet, cable, telephone, security, pool, steps away from the beach). The views and sunsets are some of the best I've ever seen! We did the Chiclet's Canopy Tour and had a great time! Susan is also very helpful in the planning process and she recommends heaps of great places to visit. There is so much to do nearby, and after a long day you can retire to your gorgeous beach bungalow!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We rented this house in January, 2008. The property was as nice as listed. Two couples went who used the master bedrooms with private baths. Two singles went each had a bedroom and shared the third bath. The pool was wonderful and the upstairs balcony above the pool with a view of the beach was a great place to watch the surf, read or count the numerous iguanas that lived on the roof. The kitchen was well equiped and the cable television brough in many chanels. We had fun exploring Jaco and enjoyed several good meals, one close by at the Backyard Bar. We tried the zipline near by, enjoyed the canopy tram and drove the 1 1/2 hours to Manuel Antonio park where we saw three kinds of monkey along with many other interesting animals, trees, and plants. We really enjoyed using this pleasant home and seeing all the amazing things there are to see in Costa Rica.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My name is Frederick and I am writing to express my pleasant surprise with the house that Susan allowed me to rent. The pictures are accurate but not until you look at the house physically do you realize how great the house is. For example there is a balcony attached to the house in the back that gives you a great view of the ocean and rocking chairs to sit on and enjoy the view. The two master bedrooms are HUGE. The other two bedrooms are smaller and have twin beds. One master bedroom has a jacuzzi style bathtub and the other a shower with sliding doors. The BBQ grill worked perfectly and the cable TV and stereo came in handy. There is also a working phone and a safe. The location was good as well and not too far from Jaco. Only negatives I could even find was that at my time of stay (April 13th-16th, 2007) the water drained kind of slow in the jacuzzi style bathtub and one of the toilets flushed slow but did work. So that's about it. The house added greatly to my vacation and the lights in the pool came in handy at nighttime!! Perfect vacation for me due to the ambience of the house and I surely will be renting this house again next year. Any with doubts feel free to call me. I too was nervous because I had never rented from a website before and Susan tried to assure me the house was real. But I was still nervous until I physically entered her gorgeous house and saw it was more than advertised. You will enjoy your stay.Owner response: I am glad that you had a good time and found the location and condition of my house a pleasant surprise. I do appreciate you and any other renters letting me know if there is anything not working properly in the house so I can have it repaired. I try to have my houses in top condition for your perfect vaction. Glad to have you back any time. Susan Hornor

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: My husband and I are farmers in California. He has relatives living in Costa Rica. We would often go and visit and fell in love with this house on one of our visits. I am not normally a ocean type person, but fell in love with this area.
Why the Owner Chose Jaco:
We have been in many different parts of Costa Rica. Farther north gets very dry (hills brown) during the dry season. Farther south is more humid. This area is pretty much green year around like you would expect when you go to the tropics. The norther Tamarindo area was very disapointing to us being very dry and dusty.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our house is located far enough away from the noise and busy trafic, but close enough to go in for dinner or shopping for what ever you need. Walk across the yard and walk out to a beautiful beach that goes for miles.
