This secluded cottage (named 'The Bothy') is in Ireland's top heritage garden, the Birr Castle Demesne. The Demesne also includes Ireland's Historic Science Centre, whose galleries are centered on the achievements of the scientific Parsons family, Earls of Rosse. The massive telescope built by the 3rd Earl can be seen in the grounds. The town of Birr is within walking distance and has restaurants, many pubs, a small theatre, and other entertainment in summer.
The area is close to the Slieve Bloom hills, great for walking and cycling, and is only 30 minutes drive from the Shannon for windsurfing and boating in the summer. Fishing is available, as well as horseback riding. Its central location also makes it a good base for touring Ireland - Dublin, Kilkenny, Limerick, and Galway can all be reached within two hours.

About the owner: The Parsons family has owned this land since 1620. The Bothy cottage was built for the young gardiners about 100 years ago. (We have done a few make over since then!!)
