The Unique Benefits of this House
Our property is on a 0.3 mile dead-end, paved road, so it doesn't see a lot of traffic. Parking is off road in our spacious driveway. Our property is lined with greenery (mostly white spruce) so there's a good measure of privacy as well. Several renters have commented that it serves as a "quiet oasis" after a hectic day of sight-seeing. Perhaps that helps explain the fact that we have MANY repeat guests. Some have returned for five, six, and seven years!

My family are repeat visitors to the chalet, 2011 being our fifth year. The chalet is right on Bass Harbor and gives a view that I'll never get tired of. Located on a quiet dead end road, the chalet has been the perfect base for all our Acadia adventures. Close enough to everything, but quiet and secluded for those days you just want to relax and watch the tide come and go. The rooms are good sized and comfortable and the kitchen was recently upgraded. We have been visited over the years by eagles, heron, hummingbirds, deer, and ducks while lounging on the ocean side deck. The one day we had rain this year we were treated to a spectacular rainbow. Once a year for a week, the Chalet becomes home. We're already looking forward to next year!

My husband and I stayed at the chalet during our vacation to Acadia National Park in August. The house was clean, well-kept, had a nicely equipped kitchen, and incredible views! It was a short drive to all the attractions of Acadia, yet was very private and quiet. Watching the changing of the tides right from the deck was one of our favorite pasttimes... The town of Southwest Harbor was very close, and had very good restaurants-our favorite was The Drydock Inn. We also enjoyed lobster from Thurston's-right across the harbor from the chalet. The owners were very communicative and answered lots of questions for us before our trip. Thanks for a great vacation stay!

My wife and I searched the internet and looked at about 80-100 homes for our one week vacation on MDI. We wanted something private, quiet and clean with enough room for us and the two kids (ages 12 and 15). The places we saw ranged in price (peak season) from about $1500 to about $3200. Oddly, the more expensive rentals seemed to be in locations that were noisier and much more crowded. Not what we wanted. The Chalet was absolutely perfect. In fact, it was so quiet at night I was amazed. Right on the harbor too, with a deck out back looking out to the water. Perfectly situated to visit and shop in Southwest Harbor (our favorite), Sommesville and other "quiet side" areas like the seawall (gorgeous sunsets). Also, a short drive over to the main MDI sites, Bar Harbor etc. The owners are old school cordial and a pleasure to work with. The home is comfortable and had Wifi for the kids. There;s a gas grill outside to cook on and a full kitchen with everything you need. There's also a gas station/convenience store right up the road for essentials. We have absolutely no problem recommending the Chalet and would love to return someday. We wanted our first trip to the Maine coast to be special and thanks to Warren and his family it was a trip we'll remember fondly for many many years to come. THANK YOU!

Wonderful, quiet location on a tidal cove. Desert Island is a wonderful place to visit, but at times it can seem like there are people everywhere. However, the chalet is on a quiet peninsula with a nice tree/shrub buffer from the neighboring properties. We enjoyed seeing a lobster boat pull up to the dock opposite the chalet at high tide, while ending up on dry land later in the day at low tide when the owner did not pull back out to the deeper areas of the bay. The location is off the main travel routes, but still only minutes away from many of the island's highlights including the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The chalet is clean, well maintained and well stocked. We especially enjoyed the grill. The washer/dryer and dishwasher is a handy amenity. The newly added internet worked well for keeping up to date with e-mail and news.

We just spent another fantastic week at this beautiful Bass Harbor chalet. When we arrived the chalet was spotless and the owners had left a binder with detailed information and suggestions to help us make the most of our week. Shortly after we unpacked we were sitting on the deck overlooking the harbor when an eagle flew directly over us. That was the perfect beginning to a week spent observing ducks, a tiny baby hummingbird, herons, and various other birds while relaxing on the deck. The weather was perfect the entire week and we enjoyed the cool ocean breezes. Local restaurants gave us the opportunity to sample a variety of delicious fresh seafood meals. Our favorite restaurant was the nearby Seafood Ketch. The efficient kitchen at the chalet made it possible for us to easily prepare our own meals as well. There are numerous hiking trails nearby but our favorite activity was searching for seaglass along the rocky coast at the Seawall a few miles from the chalet. We also visited Seal Cove Auto Museum (a great collection of brass era autos) and shopped in scenic Southwest Harbor. A day trip to Ellsworth included shopping at the LL Bean outlet as well as finding a shop with beautiful quilting fabric. Often we just enjoyed the quiet setting and read, listened to music, or played hotly contested Scrabble games. The spacious chalet provided the laid back and relaxing experience we were seeking. We are already looking forward to returning next summer. We would highly recommend a peaceful week at the chalet on the "Quiet Side".

This cottage was perfect for our family, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there in August. We were delighted to find ourselves right on the water, complete with a blue heron who visited each day during low tide, humming birds at the house feeder, and even a bald eagle who flew over the house one afternoon! The house is completely private and was in spotless condition when we arrived. The owners were extremely helpful in providing us information, and we were easily able to get to the many attractions Acadia has to offer. We really enjoyed being able to retreat to "the Quiet Side" at the end of a busy day in the Park. We thoroughly recommend it!

This cabin is spotless and comfortable. The deck view is tranquil and relaxing on it quickly puts one in a vacation mode. All of the areas of Acadia are quickly accessible and the rocky coast is a 2 minute drive. The owner is helpful and very prompt answering all our questions. I have already recommended this property to everyone I know.
