our stay was wonderful. the beach and the house were very private. all the women loved relaxing on the beach while the men enjoyed the fishing. the waves were a little rough the week were there due to a tropical storm out at sea so we opted for fishing in the bay. we cant wait for our next time to visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We had a wonderful vacation at this rental on Dauphin Island. The location is perfect-- towards the end of the island and on the Gulf side, which is much nicer. It is right on the beach, which was so convenient, especially with kids. The home was immaculately clean and well kept. It was well stocked with everything we needed. We have rented homes before and have been disappointed. This was a pleasant surprise, as the home was as beautiful in real life as it looks in the pictures. Nancy was very helpful, and responded quickly to our requests/concerns. I would highly recommend this rental if you're looking for a place to relax, enjoy the beach, and read some good books. We saw dolphins, pelicans, shrimp boats, beautiful sunsets, and loved strolling the beach looking for shells.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We had an absolutely wonderful time here at Island Time. We were pleased to walk in and see how nice the furnishings were and how clean the unit was. The views from the large balcony are spectacular! We enjoyed walking on the nearly deserted beach. There was an abundance of sealife to observe. It was quiet and peaceful, a perfect place for my husband and I to celebrate our milestone anniversary.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Me and my girlfriend absolutely love Dauphin Island and Island Time was the greatest, couldn't have asked for more. Sound of the waves, so close and the view was magnificent, Dolphins, Shrimp Boats, Seagulls, and our friend Herman the crane who came by everyday for shrimp. The house was super, great view from the deck, kitchen sink, bedrooms, living room. Looking forward to staying again, Nancy and David were super, just a great experience and would and have suggested to my friends. Took some absolutely beautiful pictures of sunset and night scenes, we had a ball.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We have been taking the winter to make many upgrades and improvements at "Island Time"! The entire interior has been freshly painted, and mahogany floors were installed in the living room, hallway, kitchen/keeping room, and the utility room. We have also gone through and updated some of the furniture, and added new housewares (knives, pans, and small appliances). Our calendar for 2012 is filling up quickly, so if you'd like to reserve our beach home, please don't wait long!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

Hi, Folks- We have just finished adding beautiful mahogany floors in the Living Room, Hallway, Kitchen and "Keeping Area". They turned out wonderfully- (please see the pictures)! We also replaced the chairs and tables in the living room, as well as much of the housewares, cutlery, small appliances, etc. We also took this opportunity to clean the carpets, and gave the home a thorough deep cleaning as well. We appreciate you choosing our beach house for your vacation, and know you'll enjoy the features we have added! Regards, David and NancyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

I just returned from spending a week here. The house is in an excellent location, almost at the end of the island. Very peaceful and quiet, no traffic and the beach was almost empty. The house is a good size and has a great layout with a huge deck. I agree with the last reviewer that the kitchen was poorly stocked, the knives weren't even sharp enough to cut lettuce. The shower in the master was horrible and the shower in the secondary bath didn't work at all. The pictures on the website must have been taken when the house was brand new, it is now pretty worn and could use a good cleaning. The doors, windows and woodwork were really dirty. Many burned out lights, broken toaster, no serving bowls. The beds were GREAT, however, they are tempurpedic and we slept really well. The grills do not work and there is no longer a boardwalk. The deck had fabulous views and was a great place to have morning coffee, you can watch the fishing boats and dolphins. There were plenty of beach towels and deck chairs. Nice colors in the house and cute artwork. Overall, the house is average but it is pet friendly which was very important to me as I brought my dog with me. We had a very relaxing week and none of the issues was bad enough to affect our stay. The island is beautiful and it is very peaceful. Be prepared for a long drive to the Wal-Mart, about 50 miles or so, so stock up before you arrive. We enoyed our stay on the island.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: Hi, Pam, and thanks for staying with us. I'm sorry that you had issues with some of the amenities in the house, and we would have liked to have known about it at the time, so that we could have addressed theses items during your stay, instead of after. We went out yesterday and checked the items you listed: 1) The toaster works, it is a bagel-toaster with some complicated features, but we did try it out and it worked fine. It is a little confusing to operate, we will replace it with a more basic model. 2) The knives have a sharpener in the knife rack. I think they could be improved, we are replacing them this week, along with the steak knives. 3) The shower in the forward bathroom works fine, not sure what the problem was? 4) The shower in the master bath- we see you replaced the head with your own "telephone" style showerhead! I'm not sure why, or why you didn't take it with you when you left. Our existing showerhead works fine and no one has ever complained about it. I don't like those "telephone and hose" type showerheads, myself, and we have removed it. You are welcome to it back, if you would like. 5) The doors and windows are cleaned every week. The house is 100 feet from the Gulf, and the gulf breeze and salt spray do a number on all surfaces. It's part of being at the sea, and keeps us busy, replacing outside furnishings and grills once or twice per year. There is no way around it, unfortunately. 6) The grills- They both work. One is labeled "Charcoal". The other is propane. The propane bottle was empty. . It's impossible for us to predict how much gas a Guest will use, or when the bottle will go dry. Fortunately, you can refill them just down the street at the Circle K. Again, thanks for staying with us. I am disappointed we did not get the opportunity to address these items during your stay. As a reminder to any people reading this . . . . We WANT you to be happy. We APPRECIATE that you chose to stay with us. If there is an issue, or if you have a question, please, please, please, call us at the number on the refrigerator, and let us know so that we can take care of it during your your stay! Regards, David and Nancy

The photos must have been taken right after it was built. Stayed here in March 2011 and found everything to be extremely worn and very dirty. Kitchen was not well stocked and all appliances were very worn and dirty. The furniture was very cheaply built........it wasn't even possible to put your feet up on the coffee table without fear of it falling apart. In our opinion, way too much money for what you get.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 20/25

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: Hi! We're David and Nancy, and we live in Daphne, AL with our two school-age kids, so we have been making this house available to guests to enjoy as well. We designed and built this beach house after our original house was destroyed by Katrina, and put a lot of time and thought into how to do it right. The end result is a 'Key West'-style cottage, but with all the amenities of home.
Why the Owner Chose Dauphin Island:
We have lived in various Gulf of Mexico beach towns since 1990, and fell in love with Dauphin Island's quiet, rustic charm. There are very few places left where you can drive down a two-lane road along the beach, and see what the towns along the Gulf were like in the days before high-rise condos became the norm.
Most of the vacation homes on Dauphin Island are single-family beach houses sitting right on the beach. No traffic, no crowds, just a quiet barrier island to enjoy beach combing, fishing, shelling, kayaking, kite-flying, grilling dinner on the deck, and star gazing at night.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
There is nothing like staying right on the beach. Being able to simply walk down the steps and be on the beach is wonderful. Sitting on the deck reading a book while listening to the waves, playing on the beach with the kids and then coming inside for lunch, are great memories, as are chasing crabs at night on the beach with a flashlight, or sitting on the deck and marveling at the beautiful night sky and millions of stars!
