What a true dream. Stayed at this beautiful home and it was wonderful. Quiet and quaint key with all the amenities, comfort, scenery and peacefulness. Highly recommend getting a boat to explore the waters. Visited by a manatee and see turtle nightly. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you Frank and Catherine

Conch Key is the perfect Mid Key locale to see this area of Florida. We used the house as a base for exploring down to Key West (1.5 hrs) and north. The house was immaculate on arrival. We were pleased that it was recently renovated and had up to date appliances and furniture. The Master Bedroom was very comfortable and the outdoor areas were numerous and had great views. The area is very quiet for sleeping. We had two manatees visit us at our dock. It was interesting to watch the crab boats come and go along the canal. We were close to 4 Diamond dining at Hawks Cay Resort and there were numerous casual spots for lunch and dinner within 20 minutes. Bahia Honda State Park is close by and has the best beach in the USA for two years in a row. What a treasure! All our expectations and needs were surpassed at Conch Key. We will return.

Perfect place for a relaxing family vacation!

Date of Stay: 01/07/12 Review Submitted: 01/22/12

We stayed at the Conch Key house Jan 7-14 for a family vacation. They had everything we could have ever wanted available, even things we wouldn't have thought of! When we arrived the house was very clean and ready for us to enjoy our vacation. The property is quaint and it's in a quiet neighborhood. There are so many outdoor spaces to enjoy, and the sunsets are beautiful. We enjoyed using the kitchen and grill to cook amazing seafood! I would highly recommend this place, and I hope we are able to return!!!

We have vacationed many times on Conch Key starting in 1956-1990. On this visit we were so happy to see that the key had not changed that much. Conch Key is still a very peaceful and beautiful key. We enjoyed your wonderful home on the canal with it's beautiful views, amble dock space, outside porches, and breathtaking sights from the roof. After walking around the key we all decided that this is the house we definetly would rent again. We were fortunate to meet Captain Scott Anderson,Conch Key, who took us on a tour in his boat.

Perfect Vacation Home!

Guest: Sara (Oviedo)
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 10/19/11

Our family of four just enjoyed a wonderful week in this home. It's hard to know where to begin... We brought our own 25` boat and were impressed with the amount of private dock space. We saw a manatee and leatherback turtle right at the dock! There's quick access to back country fishing, offshore fishing, lobstering, and a country store with a gas station and boat ramp just around the corner. The sunsets from the upper balcony were amazing!!! We had a great time filleting fresh fish, grilling out back, and eating dinner in the tiki hut each evening. It was a quiet neighborhood, the house was immaculate with everything we needed to enjoy a perfect vacation. It was hard to leave and we definitely plan to come back.

Lovely place for a family to interact with nature.

Guest: Betty (600 Reservoir Rd.)

We enjoyed our stay here very much. It was clean and comfortable with lots of outdoor living spaces. Our children loved being on the water and had a Manatee encounter right at the dock. Conch key is "low key" and not touristy and a great place to experience the nature and spectacular waters of the keys. The dock was fun for the kids and convenient for boating. We particularly loved snorkeling and boating in the Florida bay. The "Island Fish House" was great for dining and accessible from the water. A trip to Key West was an hour and a half car ride and very doable. I would happily recommend this house to friends and family. Thank you.

Wonderful Home, Wonderful Location

Date of Stay: 04/09/11 Review Submitted: 04/18/11

If you are into big glitzy glamorous places, this is not for you. If you like a clean, comfortable home on a quiet island that will make you feel like you are a local in the Keys, this is a can't miss location. My wife, 16 year old daughter and I just spent a week at the house and had a great time. The house is in great shape and it has everything you need. My daughter really liked the cottage. The location is perfect and is away from all the noise of a big island. A few fishing boats coming and going at wake speed is all you will have. The house is on the edge of the canal and all you have to do is step out onto the dock and you have a perfect sunset view. My wife walked the loop around the island a couple of times a day and the neighbors are great. A 10-15 minute ride puts you in Marathon where you will find multiple grocery stores and everything you need to stock the house. A small store is located on Conch Key itself and is great for last minute items. The store owners were great and were always willing to make recommendations. If you rent a boat, they have gas on the water right behind the store. In our opinion, Keys Fisheries off 35th Street in Marathon is a must. You can get lunch and buy all your seafood at the same time. We are already looking at our schedules for next year so we can get back down to the house. With the two bedrooms and the additional cottage, we are planning on bringing another couple with us. Frank, thank you for answering all our questions. Fish n Fun took great care of us with the boat rental and delivered and picked up the boat without any issues. Dusty went out of her way to make sure we knew where everything was and to make sure we were comfortable. Hope to be contacting you in the near future to set up another trip.

Great place for three generations

Guest: Marie (Toronto, Canada)
Date of Stay: 02/05/11 Review Submitted: 02/18/11

Our group consisted of 3 grand-parents, 2 parents and a two-year old, and the 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and cottage fit us well. There is tons of space outside the property and lots of comfortable outdoor seating. Even on windy days there will be somewhere sheltered to sit and enjoy the lovely views. The house is well equipped and nicely decorated, and the beds are comfortable. Conch Key is very peaceful and we would love to return again some time. The owner was also very helpful and responded promptly to all communications. Highly recommended.

Owner response:Thank you Marie. You left the place in great shape. Much appreciated.

Christmas in the Keys! (Start playing "Christmas in the Caribbean" by Jimmy Buffett before reading.)

Thank you so much for such a great and relaxed vacation! We stayed in your charming place between Christmas and New Year 2010 and haven't stopped talking about it since. The spotless cottage has all the necessary creature comforts, along with wonderful views, great boating access and an island vibe. We were impressed with the abundant towels, good quality linens, the artful changes and additions, fun and funky dishes and cookware and charm of this cottage. It has very comfortable beds, wonderful views and great privacy. Conch Key was just the type of quiet casual place we wanted, with nearby restaurants, Islamorada, Marathon and Key West when we wanted to go out. The cottage has terrific dockage, with easy access to a boat ramp and both the Atlantic and the Gulf. We had daily visits from area birds and loved fishing right in front of the house. Nights were spent on the upper deck under aubergine and starry skies. Ahhhh.... I might have to stop typing and book for next year!

My husband and I spent an entire month at this lovely home. I have already checked on availability for a return visit. The home is warm and truely feels like old Florida. The rooms are comfortable and quaint. There are three deck/patio areas, each with a different water view. One day, a manatee was swimming directly in front of house. We bought lobsters and stone crabs from local fisherman, right off of their boats. The small one bedroom cottage is charming. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed staying here.

I would like to thank Frank for allowing us the use of his beautiful home. Was amazed at how perfect this house is. Great views. Awsome dockage for small to large vessels. Plenty of room inside and out for entertaining. Large parking area with gate was great. Convenient access to the gulf or ocean. Small marina with ramp seconds away. Very good experience, looking forward to the next trip.

WOW! Doesn't get much better than this!!

Guest: Geoff & Brit (Spanish Fort, Alabama)
Date of Stay: 10/17/10 Review Submitted: 11/10/10

Wow!! After reading the other reviews, we thought it was too good to be true. To our surprise, this place is great! Way more than what we expected. Plenty of parking inside the fence & lots of room to move around. Our first night we ate lobster & stone crab fresh off the boat from the lobster fishermen next door. We watched the sunset from the rooftop balcony! Once again, WOW! If that wasn't enough we heard a blowing noise in the water next to the house and sure enough, there was a manatee. A BIG MANATEE! We watched it for a while and then there was another, and another, and another! Six total, all right at your feet begging for fresh water from the garden hose. As for the house, this place is awesome! If you have a boat, you walk right out the living room door on to your boat. It has a nice cove right off the main canal. Frank the owner is very friendly and easy to work with. Dusty the housekeeper is also very friendly & helpful. If you have any questions about the Islands they are more than happy to help. The water was very clear. We dove many sites that are really close to Conch Key. Lobster & fish everywhere! If it gets rough on the Atlantic side, its only 5 min back to the gulf side. One day we went to Key West, which is about an hour away, & rented an electric car. That was a blast too. We stayed 9 days & have only one regret, we should have stayed longer!! We are from the Mobile Alabama area. It took 14 hours but this house is worth the long drive. We are already planning another trip next year & will stay at Franks place. We highly recommend it to everyone!

Lobster in Paradise - Best Island in the Keys!

Guest: Candy (Orange Park, FL)
Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 09/15/10

My family has rented numerous houses through VRBOand Fred's house tops every place we have been! The pictures on the web site are wonderful because that's what sold us; but the pictures do not do it justice! Our 23' Hurricane had a perfect parking place on the canal. The Tiki area was our go to place after a day of fishing in the Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our grandsons caught so many fish, it was their (and ours) best fishing trip ever! But the best for everyone was our visiting Manatee that drank water from the waterhose and begged for his tummy to be watered and the gigantic Sea Turtle! My husband swam across the canal & purchased lobster (cheap) from the lobster fisherman! Can't wait to go back! Fred - we'll definitely be contacting you next year! Thanks - Pete & Candy

Graduation present !

Guest: Gary (Keystone Heights Florida)
Date of Stay: 06/12/10 Review Submitted: 07/10/10

We rented Mr. Harding's residence for a highschool graduation present for our youngest son, for two weeks. Of the more than 10 to 12 times we have vacationed in the keys, this was by far the one of best. You could not ask for a better location. Conch Key is small and laid back. The residence is laid out for a perfect vaction, just as advertised. My favorite spot was on the Gulf side at the covered grill area. It was a great place to relax after being on the water all day. All you have to bring is food and clothes, the rest is there at the residence. There is plenty of dock space for your boat to be docked only 20 feet from your door. My wife and I are already planning our next visit to Conch Key! Thanks Mr. Harding for a wonderful place to celebrate our sons graduation!

A wonderful vacation!!! This rental was found immaculately clean and ready for us to begin enjoying our week exploring the Keys. All that was needed was provided. The time spent at the cottage was peaceful and relaxing. A pleasant surprise was walking along the waters edge of the dock and watching the fish, we saw Parrot Fish, Tiger Barbs, Needle Fish and a Queen Angel Fish, coral reef fish that seem to be making the underneath of the docks home. We also enjoyed the visit of Sam ( our name ) the Great Egret. Once again a wonderful and memorable time.

We stayed here for 11 days and had a very relaxing time. The house is very well equipped and has everything you need self catering holiday. It is located in a fishing community and all the neighbours we met were very friendly and helpful (we were on a fishing vacation). We rented a boat for the duration of our stay and enjoyed some of the best fishing of our lives including 1 white marlin, tiger shark, wahoo, dolphin fish, jacks, cuder and the usual back country varieties. It was great to get back to the house every night to relax with a few cool beers. All in all the house was fantastic as was our rental boat with no problems what so ever with either. If you are after a relaxing fishing trip (or somewhere quite and comfortable to stay) I’d recommend this place to any of my friends.

What a great relaxing location. Nice and quiet, in a great little area. This is the place for romantic getway for two! Or if you do have kids, there is an outside attached cottage for them to have their own space. Right on the water for great views and morning and afternoon breezes. Property is obviously well cared for and everything was in great shape. The owner and property manager were very attentive and made themselves available should we need them. The location was great, centrally located in the keys. And just a short drive from Marathon where you can get about anything you may need. There are multiple restraunts a short drive away. And Key West was about an hour drive. All in all a fantastic spot to stay, highly reccomended!

Owner response:Thanks Chrissey. You left the place looking great! Much appreciated. Come back in our slow season this Fall and enjoy a substantial discount off of our already low-low rates. Frank

Close enough to Islamorada, Marathon and Key West for anyone that cares to venture out. We hit the grocery store and a few restaurants in Marathon, but for the most part never had any reason to leave via car. Wife loved the clean accomodations and master suite. I loved all the deck, dock and patio space outside. The boat ramp down the street makes it super convenient and there is plenty of deep water, protected dockage for several boats if a few anglers share the place and want to fish the bay or ocean side of the Middle Keys. We'll be back!

Date of Stay: 11/07/08 Review Submitted: 11/17/08

I and my fiancé stayed in this house for our first trip to the FL Keys and it was perfect. Situated in a small village mostly made up of fishermen and retirees, the area is very relaxing and quiet. It is a short drive to Marathon and Islmorda and the attractions there. Long key state park is only 3 miles away with trails, canoe paths and a natural beach that isn't crowded. The house itself is outfitted very nicely for an easy arrival and relaxing vacation. We loved sitting at the table in back and watching the sun set over the bay while eating dinner. (I've never had better dinner entertainment) There is a Great Egret who had taken a particular interest in us and showed up every day right outside the front door which was really incredible. The property manager/cleaning woman was very kind and made sure we were taken care of when we arrived. I'd have loved to stay the rest of the month! We will be going again.

We rented this home for a yearly fishing/diving trip and couldn't be more pleased. About two minutes from Atlantic and right on Florida Bay. Perfect location! Plenty of room for our 27 ft boat. Clear canal with plenty of fish and lobster. House and grounds were perfectly maintained and nicely decorated. Bathrooms and kitchen were very nice. Always something to do and this property has everything you could possibly need. We've been renting houses in the middle and lower keys for many years, and would recommend this property without hesitation!

Date of Stay: 06/16/08 Review Submitted: 10/07/08

My family had an absolute wonderful time at this rental. We've stayed at many different places over the years and this was by far the nicest place yet. Everything you need is provided in this very well kept home. We brought a few items we thought we might need in the kitchen, but everything we needed was already there. The owner was very easy to deal with and very professional. The housekeeper met us upon our arrival and showed us where everything was and how it all worked. Conch Key is a small, quiet key that was just what we were looking for. The sunsets were amazing and the weather was fantastic. Marathon was close enough for groceries and the ride down to Key West wasn't bad at all. This place is perfect for your boat. There is more than enough dock space, plus a boat basin to keep your boat safely docked. We stayed inshore, but there was plenty of fishing to be done either way. The ocean is accessible via the Long Key Bridge which is only minutes by boat from the dock. There is a marina just around the corner that stocks all the necessary items needed and there are many other bait/tackle shops in and around Marathon for the things they might not carry. We spent most of every day on the water and as much time as we could on the dock and porch enjoying the water. A great place to enjoy a cocktail and good company. We packed way too many clothes as we were rarely in anything but our swim suits. The bottom line...you can NOT go wrong if you chose to stay here.

Date of Stay: 06/07/08 Review Submitted: 10/07/08

Certainly no place like this if you want a feel of what the Fl Keys are all about. Conch Key' unlike so many of the other keys' has maintained the layed back lifestyle. Slow and easy. But not too far if you need a little excitement with Marathon/Key West south and Islamarado north. The house is as clean as any place you will ever stay and has everything you need. And the owner is available by phone to respond quickly should you have any problems. I had none. Having lived many years in Key West, i am very familiar with all the keys - and this is the place i choose to go on vacation. The photos of the property are accurate. One of my favorite things was the bridge a walk from the house where you could fish or just take the dogs for a safe walk. My other favorite thing was throwing the day's catch on the grill by the tiki hut. And if you don't have a catch - local fish markets are not too far. Take a trip on the Marathon Lady party boat and you will surely bring something home. Plenty of boat rentals nearby so you could park the boat outside the door. The feel of Conch Key and this rental you will never forget. And you will come back.

Tranquility on Conch Key

Location was perfect, not right in the hustle of Marathon and Islmorada, but close enough to be convenient. Amenities were abundant. The home was much more beautiful than the pictures can show. The owner has done a great job with maintenance. The Boat dock was convenient. A short ride and you can be fishing the Hawk Channel on the Atlantic side in no time, with the edge of the reef just a tad bit further. Beautiful sunsets, and was quiet. Frank was very easy and helpful to work with, and Dusty the caretaker checked in to be sure that everything was fine, and was easy to get in contact with to answer any questions. We will be returning in the future without a question.

Awesome Stay

We came here for spring break with our two kids. The location was perfectly placed between all the action in Key West and the Upper Keys. The house was comfortable, clean and quiet. We also went fishing with a neighbor and caught enough for the entire week. Can't beat this place.

If you have always wanted to live on a South Sea Island, this adorable little home will make your dreams come true. In a sparkling clean habitat with shining floors and fixtures, you will be surrounded by crystal clear water where you are able to watch the sea creatures, fish, swim, or boat.  My favorite thing was the sky deck at night for star gazing.  The owner is very accommodating and prompt. My family really enjoyed living in a real Florida Key neighbor hood.  The local restaurants are not only good but also fun as are the opportunities for boating and water play. Local historical events and art shows added a tantalizing taste of the culture of the Keys; we look forward to learning more on our next trip to this perfect vacation house. You will find this impossible not to enjoy. Sincerely, Jeanne

My husband surprised me with a trip to the Keys for my birthday and he found this property all on his own. It was very clean and well-maintained. We had a crane come up on the deck while we were sitting there and feed him minnows and was great entertainment. It is only 30 minutes from Key West and we would recommend this property to friends and family!

We hated to leave!

We've had the pleaseure of renting the Cottage twice, and if available in the future; will rent it again. It's a nice, homey residence, with awesome views of Florida Bay. Plenty of room for four people, and it has always been spotless. The kitchen is well equiped, and there is a little grocery store on the island. Marathon is a short drive, where there are many fine restaurants for all tastes...Seafood, Cuban, Mexican, Thai, American and Chinese. Food shopping at Publix, and lots of little fun shoppe's to explore. We like the privacy of the gate, and really have felt safe staying here. You can purchase FRESH Lobster right on the island. The owners provide you with the necessities for a lovely rental, and also recommend various sights to see. Key West isn't too far to travel for a day of sightseeing, and I suggest that you leave early to really enjoy it. There is a fishing charter just a few doors down from the house, and my husband caught lots of fish one afternoon. We really should have written a negative review; then we'd have the place whenever we wished. Do yourselves a favor, if you want a nice, cozy get-away that has outdoor dining, a wrap around dock and awesome sunsets, then rent this property. You won't be disappointed. Lynn and Richard

Highly Recommend

I highly recommend Conch Key and this rental in particular. Conch Key is very charming and you feel as if you are visiting the keys 40 years ago. We visited during lobster season and enjoyed watching the boats head out each morning and great sunsets each evening. We even caught a few lobster right of the dock. We found the house to be quaint with old keys charm, yet immaculately clean and updated where it counts in the kitchen and bathrooms. There was ample docking and draft for as big a boat as you can tow and 5 minute access to the Atlantic. The owner is a fine gentleman and made for a hassle free rental. We hope to return soon.

Fishing, Lobstering, Relaxing Headquarters

My second year here so I felt I should spread the word. The description is completely accurate as well as the pictures. We have rented in the keys for about 20 years. Some places use old outdated photos but you are looking at the real deal in these. The interior is spotless clean and looks more like a proud homeowners place than a rental. Its so nice not to have to climb a lot of steps in this ground level house. Appliances were practically new and the bait/fish freezer was an awesome addition this year. The location speaks for itself with instant access to bayside or ocean. Porch or Tiki both have great waterviews. There is a comfortable feeling staying on this small key. Dusty (caretaker) is great for info and just a phone call away should you have any problems. Best boat ramp in the keys for large boats is about a mile down the road at Duck Key. Smaller boats can launch right on Conch Key. Close fishing and diving at some very nice reefs offshore or head out to the Marathon humps for bluewater action. There are some nice lobstering spots nearby bayside in only 6' to 8' of water. We really enjoy this place and haven't been dissapointed in anything. Looking forward to 3 years in a row!
