We spent the Christmas holiday "At the Bay's Edge" in Bodega Bay along the Sonoma Coast. We enjoyed two days of sightseeing in the area (there's a lot to do and see here!) and two days just relaxing and enjoying the view. There are a number of fabulous beaches close by....Doran is a long stretch of beach, there are others that are more dramatic and better just for wave watching. We also went wine tasting and enjoyed some of the best clam chowder we've ever tasted. The owner, Mary Jane knows everyone in town, just ask her the best things to do / see based on what your preferences are! The private apartment was perfect for us. It had panoramic bay views that we enjoyed just sitting in front of....we never turned on the TV. Mary Jane provided binoculars and local wildlife books....so it was great fun to just sit and watch who came by to visit. We cooked fresh crab in the fully equipped kitchen....which has everything you could imagine in it. I highly recommend "At the Bay's Edge" -- there's so much to see and do here you just can't go wrong with this very special Bodega Bay Vacation Rental. We'll definitely be back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Most places say they have views….well, “At the Bay’s Edge” is everything they say they are….they are immersed in the view. You’ll hear the water, smell the water, hear the foghorns and the wildlife, and the fishing boats passing by to drop off their catch. Each time of day brings different experiences, sights, and smells, and they are all wonderful to experience. We spent one day at the house, and one day exploring…and both were great experiences. We actually came to go deep-sea fishing …. And then came home and cooked our catch. Perfect ending to the day! We did everything from beach combing to birding to wine tasting on our private deck, and many long naps on the window lounge. I highly recommend “At the Bay’s Edge”. There’s plenty of activity if you want it, or it’s the perfect place to just “be”. Mary Jane, the owner, knows Bodega Bay inside and out, and is a wonderful resource (and just plain fun to talk to!). Enjoy!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We stayed "At the Bay's Edge" over Memorial Day and had a wonderful time. We had never been to Bodega Bay, but this place looked so great online and it turned out to be all it said it was and more. We stayed with friends in the two bedroom rental and loved it. The living room faces the bay, so there are 360 degree views of the water and wildlife. We particularly enjoyed watching the fishing boats come and go....they have to pass by the house to drop off their catch at Lucas Wharf. We went down and bought some fresh fish right off the boat (Make sure and talk to Mary Jane about where and what to buy....she knows all the local "secrets"!). The kitchen was fully equipped and we had everything we needed -- a nice surprise and really appreciated. We also enjoyed using the binoculars and local wildlife books! There is a private deck that we used every night to have a cocktail and watch the sunset. What a delight and a great way to relax and reconnect. I highly recommend "At the Bay's Edge". Whether you want a retreat, or a base to do other activities....it's the perfect location for a weekend (or longer) getaway. Have fun!!!!Owner response: So nice to meet you and glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes, I do know all the local resources and am so happy to share!

"At the Bay's Edge" was the perfect getaway for my family -- including our 2 young children. The site says "on the water" and they aren't kidding....the house sits in the water with open and dramatic views of the bay. Our kids left nose prints all over the windows....watching the fishing boats pass by the house, the sea lions at play, the seagulls chasing the fishing boats, and all the shorebirds that came at low tide to feed. My husband and I really enjoyed watching the pelicans dive at sunset for their dinner, and we had the best sunsets night after night. Mary Jane, the owner, has taken care of every detail, including a great video library and games for the kids. Though they were more interested in watching the wildlife, once the sun went down it was nice to enjoy all the amenities as well. There are a lot of really fabulous beaches up here....our favorite was Doran as it was flat and perfect for kite flying. We also enjoyed going to the Brick Oven Bakery in Freestone, and Rocker Oysterfellers in Valley Ford. We took a day trip over to Pt. Reyes and saw the lighthouse...which was a thrill for all of us, and then enjoyed lunch at the Cow Girl Creamery (Yum!). I would highly recommend "At the Bay's Edge" for families or couples....there is so much to do in the surrounding areas....or just at the house itself. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely come back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: So glad your kids enjoyed their stay here, and I know they had a good time with the kite flying as that's all they talked about! Look forward to seeing you again.

This on-the-water vacation rental was the perfect weekend retreat for my girlfriend and I. We had a lot of catching up to do and enjoyed sitting out on the private deck, watching the wildlife and the tides change. We enjoyed the seals, sandpipers, heron, and even the resident seagull, named Charlie. When we ventured out we were surprised out how many great restaurants there are in Bodega Bay. Terrapin Creek earned a Michelin Star, and it's well deserved. We also enjoyed fresh fish at the Tides and Lucas Wharf, and the best clam chowder I've ever had at Spud Pointe Crab Company. We also discovered the Brick Oven Bakery in Freestone (my favorites were a lemon scone and fougasse), and enjoyed eating warm bread in their organic gardens. Right across the street is the Osmosis Spa, complete with Zen Gardens and creek-side massage. It was a very full weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely make this an annual trek. I can highly recommend "At the Bay's Edge" -- the owner, Mary Jane was very knowledgeable about the area and not only answered all of our questions but provided great local guidebooks, menus, and coupons as well. The house is well maintained and has everything you can imagine....a fully equipped kitchen, binoculars, candles, coolers, coffee travel mugs...you name it she's thought of it. And you just can't beat the dramatic circular water views. This house literally sits right on the water....it's just spectacular at all times of the day.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: So nice to have you both and glad you had a relaxing weekend. Look forward to seeing you again.

I live on the coast, and when I traveled to see family in Northern CA, I was looking for a property that featured all the coast has to offer. I found it in "At the Bay's Edge". While this cozy Bodega Bay Vacation Rental is located on the water in Bodega Bay itself, you can hear the ocean, and access the ocean within just minutes. It's a peaceful, quiet retreat, and you will be amazed and delighted at all this rental has to offer. I really enjoyed listening to the fog horns, watching (and feeding!) all the seagulls, watching and listening to the harbor seals, and watching the tides go in and out. Mary Jane, the owner, has an amazing amount of local guide books available....including many on birds, and history of the area itself, so I learned a lot. I enjoyed eating at so many new places I'm not sure where to start! Of course, the Wild Flour Bakery in Freestone, they have amazing breads and scones. And there's a great antique store next to them, the Freestone Winery across the street, and the Osmosis Spa is just down the street, so it's a great combination right there. We also enjoyed the Casino Bar and Restaurant in the town of Bodega, as well as Terrapin Creek in Bodega Bay (and I learned that they earned a well deserved Michelin Star....their food is incredible but it's a very laid back place....I highly recommend it!). We also bought some crab and cooked it in our vacation rental....Mary Jane has stocked everything you can imagine in the kitchen....from crab pots to an espresso machine to a George Foreman grill to a crockpot....and everything in between. It was a perfect getaway for us....we really enjoyed the combination of feeling totally at home "At the Bay's Edge" as well as having fun exploring all the Sonoma Coast has to offer. We'll definitely be back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

This vacation rental was such a "find" for my wife and I, we love traveling along the Northern CA coast and Bodega Bay is a great place on its own, or to use as a central point for seeing the Russian River, touring the wine country, or even day trip down to San Francisco. Mary Jane has attended to every detail here....the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you can imagine....from an espresso machine and coffee press to a George Foreman Grill to a Belgian Waffle Maker to every size pot including crab pots. The view is spectacular, it's just as the pictures show, you are right on the water. We enjoyed a nightly glass of wine and morning cup of coffee on the deck, while we enjoyed watching the cormorants, seals and sand pipers. We even saw a river otter during our stay! I would highly recommend staying "At the Bay's Edge". There's an abundance of local activities and eateries, or you can just stay in and enjoy the wood stove and the incredible view. Either way, I guarantee you'll have a good time and a memorable getaway on the water!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: So nice to meet you and your wife, and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes, Bodega Bay is a great central location so enjoy all that Sonoma County has to offer.

Bodega Bay is just over an hour from San Francisco, but it's really another world away. And what a find this place was! Our trip was an anniversary present from my wife, and we stayed "At the Bay's Edge" for 4 days. This Bodega Bay vacation rental is even better than it is represented in the ad listing. It's hard to describe how peaceful actually being on the water is. We really loved the sounds of the fog horn, listening to the birds and seals, and watching the tides come and go. Mary Jane, the owner, has thought of everything and this place is really well outfitted. She has binoculars, every kitchen appliance and utensil you can imagine, and a huge library of local history and activity books. It truly is a home away from home. And she is a great resource for "local knowledge". She told us the best place to buy fresh fish (which we cooked at the rental), as well as the best place for clam chowder (Spud Pointe Crab), and the best place to watch the sunset (Bodega Head). She also told us about the most incredible Bakery in Freestone, the Wildflour Bakery, which we went to twice! I would whole heartedly recommend "At the Bay's Edge" to anyone looking for a peaceful and unique getaway.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: So nice to have you join us for your special day and celebration!

About the owner: Hi, My name is Mary Jane and I live on the water in Bodega Bay. Our property features three private rental units. I live in one, and there is a two bedroom and one bedroom vacation rental as well. I've lived in Bodega Bay for 10 years, and am happy to provide recommendations and resources for your trip to the Sonoma Coast!
Why the Owner Chose Bodega Bay:
I love the quiet and serenity of Bodega Bay. While the history of Bodega Bay is rooted in the fishing industry, there is a lot of activity and variety in this small town. You can enjoy dozens of scenic beaches, hiking, biking, wine tasting, fishing, golf, you name it. No wonder Bodega Bay is one of the most popular towns on the coast.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Living right on the water is the most unique aspect of this property. Open the deck and feed the seagulls, or enjoy watching the seals and pelicans right out front of your window. I love watching the changing of the tides, and watching the fishing boats pass 'At the Bay's Edge' on their way to unload their catch.
