Just got back from our winter getaway

My husband and I do an annual weekend getaway each year with 5-6 other couples. This year, we decided to try renting a house rather than staying in a hotel, but discovered it was very difficult to find a house with enough decent beds for so many couples. Then, we found York Cliffs’ weekend winter deal. Are we glad we did! This was a perfect location for several couples to relax and catch up. It’s a beautiful house with so much character and the perfect location - a true vacation place. The 4-season porch was our favorite hangout – it was big enough for all 12 of us to sit and watch the raging waves crashing in the storm (who would have thought we’d be happy to have a storm brewing on our vacation weekend?). The only problem with our stay was that it was too short. We departed with a unanimous vote to stay at York Cliffs again next year -- but try to extend it a day or so – thanks so much, Alexandra and Jenna!

Fantastic Family Vacation

Guest: Dolores C.
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 08/31/11

My family and I have just returned from York Cliffs. It was all and more than we had anticipated. When a family comes together with many personalities, a person hopes that all will be happy spending time together. The house has so many bedrooms, and my biggest concern was that each person would find a bedroom that they wanted to stay in. I was thrilled when each person found their particular bedroom to match their personality! Each morning we would be on the back deck watching the sun rise over the water, burning off the mist, as we drank our coffee. The perfect beginning to each day. We took full advantage of the huge backyard, Bocci, Lacrosse, and a watery slippy slide! We would walk to the rocky beach in back of the house. My grandson was so excited to have permission to throw as many rocks as he wanted!! We would also walk to the bottom of the hill to a small private beach that was perfect. Actually, the water was not that cold! We would end our days with numerous board games which lasted later into the night than we wanted. We did a little shopping, sightseeing, and York's Wild Kingdom. We ate at Fox's that sits in front of the Nubble Light house. Excellent!! Grabbed ice cream at Browns. The best!! Had to stop at Goldenrod for the homemade taffy and fudge. Incredible mouth sensations!! York has some great little shops. If you are an antique buff, this is the place for you. Antique shops abound. The week went much too fast!! I was very hesitant to rent a home online, and had never done it before. The owners of this magnificent home and their caretaker, are an absolute delight to work with.

Amazing week at an amazing house!

My family (mother, children, grandchildren, aunt, cousin) and I just returned last Saturday from a phenomenal week at Yorkcliffs. Though a bit apprehensive when I booked it, that anything could be this amazing (and wondering if it was worth the $$), I must admit that it was everything and MORE than I had hoped it would be. Our ages ranged from 7 to 84 and all twelve of us declared it the best family vacation we have ever had. The house is gorgeous and in such a great location with a fantastic ocean view. It's near beaches, shops, quaint communities, great walking and biking opportunities, and even close to one of the top 10 hot dogs in the US (Flo's -- and I recommend having one of those as well!). The wrap around porch was our favorite gathering place. With 7 bedrooms (we all had to use the stairs -- great exercise), each person had enough of their own personal space. Having 4 grandsons, the breakfast room worked great for the kids and the dining room was the center for the adults for meals and the entire family for games every evening. The location also lent itself well to an easy drive to catch the commuter into Boston for a day. Huge, gorgeous, quaint, quirky, cozy are words we could easily use to describe Yorkcliffs. Memories forever. Thank you Rada family for sharing your Yorkcliffs with us! I am pretty sure that you will hear from some of us again -- we want to return! As one of my grandsons said -- "Why does the week go faster in Maine than it does in Missouri?"

Dream House

Guest: Jan and family (Atlanta)
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

It's been almost 3 months since our visit, looking at the pictures of this wonderful house bring back all the happy memories of our week there. Our extended family of 13 people found it a perfect spot for a week of fun and relaxation. The house is bursting at the seams with charm. Lots of light with windows and stunning views everywhere. Several of the windows even feature window seats each one more charming than the next! With more than 5800 square feet there was plenty of room to be together or get off by yourself. The seven bedrooms each have their own style but all fit well with the history meets modern feel of the house. One of our favorite spots was the awesome six sided sunroom. The massive windows and beautiful views were lovely and the shape of the room made it perfect for hanging out with a groiup. The week we were there was unusually warm for Maine but the lack of air conditioning wasn't a problem. The sea breezes got the job done when it came to cooling the house but there were plenty of fans around as well. The owners were pleasant and helpful. Rick stopped by during the week and gave us a first person history of the house that made all of the architectural details and changes over time even more interesting. We found plenty to see and do in the area but could have been happy just enjoying the house and beautiful views! I would highly recommend this property and hope to come back someday myself!

Fabulous Vacation Home

What a wonderful home for a vacation. We were a group of nine ladies and we couldn't have had a better time. Plenty of room for everyone and more places to sit and visit with each other than you can imagine. The back deck and back porch were our favorite places. We had a formal dinner one night and had everything we needed to set a beautiful table. York Beach is very close and all the other towns in the area have plenty of shopping. We drove to Portland and took a Lobster Boat Tour. I would recommend that - we caught three lobsters! The crew answered all our questions and were a lot of fun. Many wonderful places to eat, and we couldn't have had better service everywhere we went. We all love Maine! I can't say enough about how nice it was to work with Alexandra. My family has rented several vacation homes in the past and I can honestly say I have never had such prompt attention to all my e-mails and questions. The house was very clean, beds were great, kitchen has been updated and everything worked just fine. All bathrooms were large and I loved the tub on the third floor. We will always remember out trip to Maine and York Cliffs.

Beautiful Maine Rental

Guest: Josie (Toronto, Ont. )
Date of Stay: 08/28/10 Review Submitted: 09/09/10

We just returned from a week in Cape Neddick Maine and if you love old, beautifully restored homes, this is the rental for you. The house was truly lovely and the setting was gorgeous - overlooking the rocky shore. The view from almost every room was spectacular and sitting out on the deck looking out over the ocean was perfect. There is also a very nice beach just a short walk away. The listing is very accurate and the house is very well equipped (the most well equipped rental we've ever had),and very clean. The beds are very comfortable. The owners are great to deal with and Alexandra, who was our primary contact, was great about answering questions promptly and pleasantly. A small problem that arose was dealt with by the property manager in a very timely fashion. There is much to do in the area and we particularly like Ogunquit, with it's shops, restaurants, Perkins Cove and the beautiful walk along the 'Marginal Way'. Golf and tennis are located very close by. We've been to the area many times and always want to return. After staying in this rental, we now have one more reason to go back again. We were there during probably the hottest week of the summer and there is no air conditioning. However, there wasn't a night that we weren't able to sleep. There are numerous fans in the house and they kept us sufficiently cool. We would certainly recommend this house and it's perfect for families, girls' getaway, etc. We are thinking about returning with friends. The whole experience was completely pleasant.

Family Fun in Maine

Guest: Jo (Los Angeles, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/07/10

We just spent a terrific week at this beautiful Cape Neddick House in Maine. There were 13 of us including 4 small children. There was more than enough space for us all to spread out. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated and a gorgeous sunroom was our favorite spot for morning coffee or an afternoon glass of wine. The enormous deck outside had a wonderful, unobstructed view of the ocean. Cape Neddick Beach, just a short walk down the street, was perfect for the kids especially at low tide where you could wonder through warm tide pools. The owners were fabulous and wonderful to work with and the house was immaculate and stocked with everything a family would need. We hope to be back here soon!

Wonderful House & Family

I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful time we had at this gorgeous house. We were up in York for my daughters wedding and decided to rent this house for the week before and the week after so we could spend some family time together. "The bride" had a magnifcent view of the ocean each morning before the wedding and our other daughter & husband had a bedroom to themselves with a separate bedroom for their 3 children. Our son and his wife had their own room with separate rooms for each of their 2 sons while my husband and I enjoyed the master suite. Everyone was very comfortable with so much space. The house was very clean and little imenities were there for us to enjoy. We spent so much time on the back porch and the decks as the views are spectacular. We had some company the day after the wedding where we all enjoyed the huge backyard. This family is one of the nicest families that we have ever rented from. Alexandra was a pleasure to talk with while we were deciding on renting and her dad Rick was a big help with questions and always available as busy as he seemed. One night there was a storm and we received a call from his wife making sure we were okay. She was delightful to talk to. His youngest daughter called her telling her about the storm and asked her to check on us to make sure we had power and no trees were down. We happen to leave something at the house that was important to my husband and Rick was nice enough to go to the house to get it for us. I just want to share the genuine concern this family had for us while we were at their house. They are truly very nice people. The beaches and the surrounding area of York and Ogunquit are have some of our favorite places, including restaurants, shopping, the arcade, the lighthouse and walking along Marginal Way. My daughter had a wonderful day for her wedding at the Union Bluff and thanks to this house we were able to accomodate our immediate family to share in this special occasion. The only problem we had was a dryer that broke the day we moved in and it was fixed within a few days. I would definetly recommend renting this house to families. The special memories we have in this house with our family are priceless.

THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE!

Guest: Toni & Family (New Rochelle, NY)
Date of Stay: 11/25/09 Review Submitted: 02/13/10

There is nothing more wonderful than leaving the world behind for a few days on the rocky coast of Maine. My family has had the good fortune of spending two Thanksgivings in this magnificent home. When you walk in the door you immediately shed the worries and stress of daily life in New York. The owners are lovely and wonderful to work with. The kitchen is well stocked with all the necessities, pots, pans, china etc, This house is spacious, yet homey and most comfortable with magnificent ocean views, Whether you are falling asleep to the sound of the sea, waking to an awesome view, or reading in a cozy chair by the fireplace you will feel "at home" at York Cliffs. There is plenty to do in the nearby towns of York Beach, Ogunquit and Wells with miles of sandy beaches as a bonus! We encourage anyone needing to get away to consider this rare gem, you will not be disappointed!

Perfect Place for a Family Getaway!

Guest: OctoberStay (California)
Date of Stay: 10/08/09 Review Submitted: 10/15/09

We could not have asked for a better place to stay during our time in southern Maine. From the beginning to the end, the owner was communicative, friendly, responsive and answered any and all questions we had. The house was not only bigger than we imagined, but incredibly clean, spacious, well-maintained and equipped with everything. The bedrooms were large (especially the master!) and provided plenty of room for everyone. I really liked how all the bedrooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floors, leaving the 1st floor plenty of room to socialize. The location near the adorable town of York Beach is perfect for kids and adults like. Be sure to stop by Inn on the Blues for some live music and food. The only downside to staying here was having to leave! We'll definitely be back!!

Beautiful House!

Date of Stay: 09/19/09 Review Submitted: 11/18/09

We spent a long weekend in September 2009 at this wonderful, majestic, yesteryear oceanfront home in Cape Neddick. It was apparent from the first step inside the front door that it was a great choice of vacation spots. The owners have put a lot of effort into restoring this home. We were delighted with the view, the roominess and comforts afforded by this treasure. There was plenty of space for our whole group of 12 to come together to eat, chat, relax and enjoy eachother's company. There was also plenty of space to grab a quiet hour alone or sit in the sunshine with a book. The deck was wonderful to sit on with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise over the ocean in the early morning. Many thanks to the owners for their thoughtfulness in equipping the house with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. From linens, dishes, silverware, pots, pans and cleaning supplies, everything we needed was available for us. Not one of the 12 people in our group was disappointed and we all vowed to come back again and again as long as this wonderful warm and comforting home is available for us to rent.

What a place for a 90-year old's birthday party!

Guest: Wisconsin Ed (Madison, Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 09/06/08 Review Submitted: 10/14/09

Eleven of us had more than enough room to comfortably feel at home for a week when we celebrated our mom's 90th birthday at elegant YORKCLIFFS in September, 2008. Mom got the very best master suite on the second floor, and there was plenty of room for the rest of us to sleep and to not get in each other's way. The sunrises, the ocean viewed from high on the deck overlooking a large back lawn, the shore a few short minutes walk away, and easy access up and down the coast all contributed to making a native New Englander's birthday a wonderful occasion for all of us current Mid-Westerners. Unlike other homes that we looked at, this spacious and well-appointed three-story home is located in a fine residential neighborhood, with classic architectural features and well-stocked litchen cabinets as well. Along with my siblings, in the planning stages we were a little wary of putting down this amount of cash up front. But the dividends as described above turned out to be well worth the investment, especially since we divided up the cost. Our interaction by phone and email and in person with the family was all very positive, and the home was clean and well-maintained when we got there. Just be sure to move the Weber grill off the porch before you start it up - smoke and heat don't do good things to white porch walls and large windows!
