The result is a stunning fusion of the grandeur of times past and the luxury of modern four-star accommodation.
Offering luxury accommodation for up to 16 guests, each room is uniquely decorated in a traditional style to suit this historic castle. The highest quality antique furniture has been coupled with modern conveniences you would expect of such a high-end property. Our group's stay at Lisheen castle was simply amazing from start to finish. The accomodations were incredible, and Zane Everard is the perfect host. The castle is centrally located which facilitated the incredible week-long tour of Ireland Zane had arranged for us. It was the trip of a lifetime, and I would recommend Lisheen as the only place to stay in Ireland.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Lisheen Castle was absolutely gorgeous. Rustic on the outside, yet completely modern and comfortable inside. The rooms were clean and the electric blanket and down comforter made for a good night's sleep. Our meals were all excellent and there was no shortage of wine with every dinner. The property was beautiful and I enjoyed seeing the cows grazing in the adjacent fields. Our host took care of planning every day's activities and provided reliable transportation for all of our sightseeing excursions. He personally went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. I would recommend this property without hesitation.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Lisheen Castle was a perfect holiday spot for our group of 16, mainly Canadians. It combines the romance of staying in a castle with luxury, comfort and convenience. It is beautifully restored on the inside and has lovely gardens. Despite cool, wet weather, we were cozy thanks to central heating and lots of hot water. Almost all of us had an en suite bathroom. Our group has a number of gourmet cooks who enjoyed buying local produce at the butcher, fishmonger and grocery stores in or near Thurles and preparing them in the well-equipped kitchen. We ate every night in the stately dining room. During the day we went our separate ways taking driving tours to such spots as Cashel, Kilkenny, Birr Castle, Bunratty, Cork and the National Stud, all of which are close enough for day trips. Zane and Joan made themselves available to answer special requests, give advice and fill us in on castle restoration.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

This was an exceptional place to stay, centrally located, tranquil grounds, and very excellent accommodations. We stayed in the Lords bedroom with a hugh bathroom. Very nicely furnished with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The kitchen contained all we needed and more and the small dining room proved to be the most used room in the castle. Working fireplaces with supplies of peat were a cozy touch. We have done the B&B route on our last two visits and we had good experiences but this castle experience was exceptional. I also liked the way the owner handled our visit. He introduced us to the castle, showed us how to contact him should we need to and then left us alone. He organized a formal (Downton Abbyish) dinner for a nominal cost performed by a local chef. We used the formal dining room for this dinner and it was excellent. I would give our Lisheen Castle experience my highest rating. Well done.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Fifteen of us had a great week in Tipperary at Lisheen Castle. Zane helped make everything go smoothly, even lending us his guitar for the week. The castle looks big in the photos, but is even bigger when you're there. If you were looking for someone in your group, it might take awhile to check all the comfortable common rooms. Be sure to take advantage of the local chef that Zane offers to provide for at least one meal (for an extra charge). It makes the huge formal dining area come alive. You feel like you're dining at Versailles.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Hi Glenn, Thank you for taking the time to submit such a good review, it was pleasure having you and party stay at the castle and I hope you decide to return again sometime, Best regards, Zane

My family and I had the pleasure of renting the Lisheen Castle in June 2011 for a week. Zane Everard was such a gracious host and met our every need. My husband and I had a wedding ceremony in the drawing room with 20 guests and it was an absolute PERFECT venue! Renting the castle for the whole week cost less than what most castles wanted for just the day to hold our ceremony!! It's always a little nerve-wracking renting a place based solely on pictures. We were fortunate in that my mom's co-worker had stayed here for a family reunion and LOVED it. Our experience was no different! My husband and I work in the travel and tourism industry in Maui, and we know a good deal when we see it. There was so much space to move around that we never felt crowded and it was surprisingly warm and inviting. Each bedroom had breathtaking views of the countryside. The extra large catering style kitchen came equipped with everything you will need. The town of Thurles was very quaint and just a short drive to stock up on food. We hope to return to this magical place soon and recommend the Lisheen Castle to absolutely everyone. You will not be disappointed here!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Fifteen of us rented Lisheen Castle for spring break, and it was a wonderful vacation. When we arrived, we found the refrigerator stocked and the electric blankets turned on, ready for anyone who wanted to rest after an 8.5 hour flight. The owner greeted us and stayed in touch the entire week, even helping fix a rental car when one of the group had problems. The castle was clean and well-aired, and every bedroom offered something special. The drawing room and dining room were beautiful, but we gathered in the kitchen, library, or "rent room" (where tenants once paid their rent through a window)--three warm, comfortable spaces. The castle has wi-fi, but the office computer is available to everyone, so there's no need to bring a PC. The professional kitchen has a quirky stove and massive fridge, but the only freezer is down the hall in the dungeon (literally). The castle sits on a hill surrounded by pastures full of friendly cows, and it overlooks giant windmills. The road is very narrow, but pretty typical of the rural roads in Ireland. You do need a car (although the owner offers his services as a driver if you'd rather park your rental). The castle is a convenient starting point for exploration. We drove to Cashel, Cahir, Waterford, Kilkenny, Bunratty, Cork, Kinsale, Limerick, Loch Derg, and Adare. Some of the group drove to Kerry, but they said it was a long, long day. We took a day train from Thurles to Dublin for around 30 euros; the Thurles station is very easy to find and offers plenty of parking. One thing I quickly discovered is that it takes nearly twice as long to get anywhere than a local says it will take. There is a downside to staying at Lisheen Castle. You are spoiled. When you visit other castles in Ireland, you don't find hot showers and bidets, or soft beds with down duvets; you can't sit in a window seat and sip a Guinness or take your dirty clothes to the washer and dryer in the barn. You aren't allowed to cut the (huge!) daffodils and refill all the vases. Lisheen does have a circular staircase, but it's wrought iron and airy, not claustrophobically winding up a steep tower. Lisheen was a pile of rubble until the current owners began reconstruction in 1995. Photographs in the drawing room chart the amazing process. The current building suggests all the atmosphere of the original, and everything that could be preserved was--the murder hole, for instance, and the kitchen fireplace and walls. Stay at Lisheen Castle for a treat!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you Judy, you and all your party looked after the castle like it was your own home and we appreciated the respect you showed the castle greatly, thank you and we hope to see you again in the future.

What a wonderful return to the old family home of long ago. A different time, so laid back, so gracious, so nostalgic. We were given a wonderful welcome by the owners after a long trip. Zane spent hours with us answering all our questions about the home and the surrounding country side and of things to do in the area. Our rooms were delightful, extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean with all the little extras which make all the difference. We seated 28 comfortably round the dining room table on the one night for a reunion supper which was catered for in the well appointed kitchen. All in all we found the place absolutely charming and all it sets out to be from the pictures on their website. There was plenty to occupy us in the surrounding country side and we were lucky enough to see the Hurling final in the local pub. We will definitly be back again for another reunion in a few years timeRecommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Took a family of 12 to Ireland for a heritage vacation. Started and ended in Dublin but was looking for something outside the city that would be central (to a degree) for day trips, while also providing a fantastic lodging/Irish experience on its own. This was it. Trust me, you can look at my tripadvisor reviews to see that I'm a jaded, well-traveled businessman so I don't throw around compliments lightly. My family absolutely had the time of their life. From the moment we arrived until we left we were in heaven. Within 15 minutes of arriving we were sitting out on a patio, enjoying an adult beverage, and just soaking everything in. The castle itself was simply fantastic: world class, dramatic, and really "wow'ed" my family. Zane and his family were world class hosts, ensuring a few drinks and appetizers were sitting in the fridge for our arrival (great surprise!). Not only did they ensure we felt welcomed and well treated, they went out of their way to recommend local pubs for the older crowd, fun things to do for my 6-year old (circus was a blast), where to shop, and so on. Thurles was a great little town (about 10 minutes way) with a couple of great pubs, very friendly and helpful people, and places to grab food and drinks for back at the Castle on nights we chose to eat in. We were able to drive to Blarney Castle one day, Kinsdale another, and so on, and still have plenty of time to explore the castle's grounds, the community, and so on. Perfect balance of exploring without wearing everybody out. I'm sure this review sounds over the top but, again, if the experience were the opposite (or just average) I would say so. It's been 8 months or so and we still talk about what a great trip we had overall and how much we enjoyed our time at Lisheen and the surrounding community. We are absolutely looking forward to doing it again and I highly recommend you spend the money and get the trip of a lifetime.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

About the owner: The Everard family is synonimous with the area of Lisheen and Thurles, having lived here since the early 18th. century. In the mid 19th century, the family moved to Fortfield House, which was the dower house on the Lisheen Castle Estate. The present occupants, Michael and Joan Everard, run a very successful 300 acre farm specialisng in cereal and dairying. In 1996, Michael and Joan undertook the restoration and renovation of the Castle. This has been a real labour of love for them, as they have a wonderful appreciation of history and things beautiful. It was specially pleasing to Michael and Joan that all the craftsmen needed to carry our this momentous task were available locally. They have left no stone unturned to ensure that Lisheen Castle would be restored to its former glory, a residence fit for a Lord.
Why the Owner Chose Tipperary:
Remaining true to the original vision of the castle, the Everards's have researched in detail the architectural and interior design of the historic castle structure. Every piece of furniture, light fitting, window and floor covering has been sourced, selected or specially manufactured for Lisheen Castle. The result is a stunning fusion of the grandeur of times past and the luxury of modern four-star accommodation.
Each room is uniquely decorated in a traditional style to suit this historic castle. The highest quality antique furniture has been coupled with modern conveniences you would expect of such a luxurious self catering property. There are six ensuite double rooms, two single rooms and one twin room in the castle.
The castle’s formal reception rooms; the drawing and dining rooms, both feature hand-painted murals on original vaulted Norman ceilings from which hang impressive antique chandeliers.
Both formal and family friendly traditional dining facilities are on offer at Lisheen Castle. The formal dining room seats 16 people in extravagant old world style, while the traditional Irish kitchen offers a cozy informal dining area. A fully equipped professional kitchen is available for your use, or we can organize a catering team on request.
Lisheen Castle is renowned for offering escorted touring vacations, suitable for groups of up to 16 people. Our week long tailored itineraries visit Ireland’s most popular historic, cultural and sporting attractions which have been personally chosen by the Everard family. Visit the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, Kilkenny Medieval City, The Rock of Cashel and the historic town of Cobh with its award winning Titanic Experience. In the evenings, enjoy traditional Irish Music sessions in local pubs and dining in some of Ireland's best restaurants.
The Unique Benefits at this Castle:
Lisheen Castle is a truly unique property in such a scenic location in the Irish countryside overlooking a tapestry of green fields and rolling hills. It boasts an enviable location with easy access to the motorway to allow guests to enjoy all the visitor attractions that Ireland has to offer. The interior of the castle is tasteful and luxurious but manages to maintain the castles traditional feel and its fairytale atmosphere.
