Location: Cambridge, Maryland, USA (ten miles West of the City of Cambridge in Woolford)

Accommodations:  Carriage House Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

Your hosts invite you to enjoy a visit to the land that James Michener wrote about in his book "Chesapeake." And remember to keep this visit a secret "...lest you awaken the rest of the world as to what a sequestered paradise this place is on the Eastern Shore." (James Michener)

You will be staying in a charming, waterfront, carriage house located on a five-acre estate with surrounding tall pines and stately cedars. Your living quarters, with private entrance and second-floor balcony, will overlook the pool and English garden below. Queen-size bed with down comforter and memory foam mattress, terry robes, overstuffed seating, antique furniture, and rich oak floors all add to a romantic and homelike ambiance. If you become chilled, just flip on the gas fireplace. Enjoy peace and quiet, observe wildlife, watch the sunrise from the beach, and sip a glass of wine on the dock just before sunset.

Take walks or ride a bicycle along the mile long peninsula road that leads to Deerpond. You are likely to see bald eagles or osprey soaring over your head as you walk. Visit Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge just a few miles away and observe many different birds of prey in their natural habitat. Drive into Cambridge to take in the many antique stores, play a round of golf at the new Hyatt Resort and Country Club, or eat dinner at the fine restaurants of the Hyatt. Better yet, sample some of the famous Maryland crab cakes at one of the local restaurants near Deerpond. They are not fancy but they sure are good!

    • The comments below so accurately describe this lovely couple's retreat. It was so rejuvenating to have days of quiet 'down time' in this wonderful place and we returned home relaxed and refreshed. We enjoyed the nearby Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, loved the crab imperial at the Madison Bay restaurant, paddling the kayak, and browsing the shops in St. Michael's. We want to come back to experience it in different seasons. Bob and Cathy, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home.

    • My husband and I had the pleasure of staying four nights at Deerpond in July of 2008. When we arrived, there was wine chilling in the refrigerator, incredibly soft linens and robes, and a swimming pool calling our names. The grounds are simply breathtaking, from the boxwood garden to the carefully manicured lawn, to the private pier and dual adiorondack chairs overlooking the water. The apartment was cozy, but still spacious enough so that we were never feeling cramped. We cooked almost all of our meals in our fully-stocked kitchen, and Cathy was nice enough to let me use herbs from her garden daily! She even made us homebaked goods for breakfast. If you're a nature lover, you'll enjoy watching the many bird species, like hummingbirds and swallows from your balcony or even from a two-person kayak which we used to paddle around the river. Basically, we can't say enough great things and we'll definitely be back.

    • We stayed here in mid July. It is such a relaxing & peaceful place. We thought Cathy & Bob really thought alot on how to make their guest feel special. From the fresh flowers upon arrival to more fresh flowers a few days later plus the delicious brownies. the different coffees & teas, the breakfast bars & the great toiletry basket (not to mention the comfy robes). The grounds are beautiful as is the carriage house. It is quiet & out of the way, but still close enough to all the things you might need. It definately was the relaxing vacation we needed. We will be back. Tnanks again Cathy & Bob for making our stay so nice. Liz & Keith

    • We stayed at Deerpond in July, 2006 and had a wonderful time. Deerpond is a great place for those looking to get away to relax. Very nice accomodations, quiet & serene setting, wonderful hosts who really try to provide that which will make your stay special. You may need to travel a bit to get to some of the popular tourist spots, but that isn't necessarily bad. Bob & Cathy - Thanks for providing a great alternative to the typical motel vacation. P.S.- And there really are deer there.
