Great house for reunions, family vacations, book clubs, woman groups. Enjoy amazing views from your two large front decks. The beach is clean white sand used only by the few families living on Lake Shore Drive. Plenty of space to spread out, talk into the night with the crickets chirping and the sound of the waves and drink wine on screened in decks or take a wonderful walk in the preserve in the back and return along the beach.
The beds are high end with plush towels and designer linens. Tall pines line the back of the property with woods across on the other side of the street. We have 90 gallons of hot water so you'll never run out. Our cleaners are wonderful. You will feel comfortable here the moment you walk in.
Safe outside place for the kids to play on large screened in decks and on the large deck in back with toddler pool, swings and ping pong table.
Summer, fall or spring-- it doesn't get better than on the beach and whether you're enjoying the fall foliage, the summer wild flower or the new spring shoots, the hiking is just outside your door. The sunsetting over the lake is visible from most of the rooms in this beach home built in 1999. Come in August for blueberry picking and freeze what you can't eat.
Take a trip to the casino or catch the bargains at a great outlet mall--both minutes away by car. Run down the steep dune behind the house for a great one and a half hour walk through woods and dune land. Bike down the lake front bike path or to nearby New Buffalo, Michigan or the Indiana National Lake Shore reserve just ten minutes away. Play Ping pong on the back deck or watch the kids playing on the swings.
Great restaurants in town and in nearby Michigan along with great antiquing in Harbort County Michigan. Large gas grill on deck and full, but small kitchen. Take a day trip to Chicago by convenient train or car and enjoy fine dining and theater- just one hour travel time and come back home to the lake. Dansk dishes, merrimeko sheets, and comfy towels. Enjoy your vacation in comfort.
Owners have small apartment in upstairs and try to be there for your arrival. Otherwise, they are easy to reach on phone at any time.

We are a group of women in our 60's (and daughters, and sometimes grand-daughters) who have held a "Princess" vacation every other year for the past 10 years. The last four vacations have been in the Michigan City, IN area. This house actually had the view and sounds of the lake we always look for. There was plenty of room and beds. The owners were helpful and friendly. We loved the screened-in decks and the views and sounds of the lake. Well, we could hear it once we all stopped cackling and the music was off for the night.We love the lake and Mich City and the area. Love eating at Duneland Inn, Southshore Brewery, Maxines, Sahara, and Mateys (we don't cook while Princessing)..Love the Farmers' Market at Chesterton. We will be back to Lake Michigan again! I recommend for people 55 and up only if they are physically active and able to do stairs and the walk across the dune.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: At our end of the beach, rather than streets going up to the lake, there is dune grass and sand. I think of a dune as a climb where as we have more of a rise. Check out the picture of my daughter with my granddaughter on her back on the beach path right at the rise. Judy makes a good point though. There is a flight of steps down from the cars in the back (you never have go up the front steps if you prefer not to) and the house is on two floors. I do warn anyone with physical limitations, that this is probably not the house for them.

Marsha, We had a lovely time at your beautiful beach home in Michigan City. It was a great family weekend. We spent many hours out on the deck off the kitchen. The views were wonderful. We ate all meals out on the deck and spent hours just talking with my mom, siblings, in-laws and nieces and nephews. There was something for everyone. We went to the beach. We did some hiking. The little ones did some fishing. Thanks again. We really enjoyed our weekend. Thanks again for the use of your lovely home and for being so accommodating for my mother. We just might come again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The house was everything promised & more. It is even prettier in person, immaculate and very, very quiet. We esp loved the screened porches for reading, eating and even doing crafts with our 5 grandkids under 6 years old. Another bonus was wonderful cafes so near-by (Sahara & Maxine's & Panini, Panini and Oinks Ice Cream in New Buffalo, MI.) We were ages 1-66 and everyone had a great time at the fabulous beach, only a 5 minute walk away.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, girls getaway.

Wonderful, clean and spacey rooms with enough bathrooms and bedrooms for all to be comfortable. The decks are so spacious, breezy, and screened-in with a grill that makes entertaining a delight. Washer and dryer also is included. And its just a quick walk to the spacious beach. The house is built for easy upkeep, well-insulated for quietness, and has an easy access kitchen and eating area. We had a wondertime there! Our family ages were from 4 years old to 70, including teenagers, young families, and grandmothers. A terrific get-away!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

May 1- June 27=$2000 a week or 1200 for 3 day week-end. Flexible scheduling. June 27-August 23=$3100/week(Fri-Friday) 3 day week-ends is 1700. August 23-Oct 31= $2000 a week. $1200 for 3 days except for Labor Day week-end . Labor Day week-end 1700. Flexible scheduling during off season. About the owner: My husband and I love to travel. We love Costa Rica and China among other places. We also love to Kayak and bike ride which makes Michigan City perfect for us as we are on the bike path and the lake. We are a retired teacher and lawyer/small business owner and now enjoy quilting and reading and playing Boggle and we enjoy best of all our time when we are at the house on the lake.
Why the Owner Chose Michigan City:
When the next generation outgrew our family home down the beach from this house, the thought of leaving the lakeviews behind, of not biking on the bike path or hiking in the back or having reunions on the beach was not acceptable. I built our house for quiet time for me and most of all for family reunions with a balance of private space and lots of space for conversation, games and good eating. As travelors who also rents so we know how wonderful it is to walk into a space and find luxurious clean sheets and plush towels! We love it there and it is very satisfying to know that others get to enjoy it too!
