Absolutely fantastic. This place exceeded our high expectations. It was perfect for our group of 17 adults (plus two small children - the master suite has a large closet with double doors that worked great for their cribs, and it came stocked with toys!). Unfortunately, we were counting on snow and there was none, but what can you do - it's been a ridiculously dry winter. But the house was warm and cozy, the kitchen is incredible, the rooms are welcoming, the lake and the setting are beautiful. And it comes stocked with everything you need.

This house was a perfect rental for our teacher professional development retreat! The view was amazing and the house had plenty of space for a large group. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a rental.

We have just returned from our second weekend getaway at the Henry's wonderful home. As with our stay last year, Sept. 2010, everything was in perfect order in the home. Once again we enjoyed all that the home has to offer. The kitchen is fully equipped and the large dinning room table was just what we needed for our group. Everyone slept well in those comfortable beds especially after climbing the Brokeoff Mountain trail. Some of us took a swim in the lake after our hike and we were surprised to find how warm the water was. What a treat after a long and challenging hike. We can not recommend this home more highly. It is great and works well for a large group. PERFECT !!! We will come again one day.. It is a pleasure renting from the Henry's..

We rent homes on a somewhat regular basis, but this by far exceeded our expectations! It was so well appointed I felt like I was at my very own second home! It has a wonderful layout for large groups with great bedroom and bath accommodations. We truly felt 'at home' and just relaxed and enjoyed the lake, biking trails, bocce at the park and hiking at Mt. Lassen. We hope to stay here again, but I will leave all of my 'stuff' at home. No need to drag the coffee grinder and filters, they were there! No need to drag the wine glasses or serving trays -- it was all there. The beds, pillows and towels were wonderful (note to self, leave the pillow at home next time!). We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to do it again next summer!
Owner response:I'm happy to hear that you had such an enjoyable time during your recent stay. You, our guests, are our number one priority and we try to be very diligent in providing a stress free vacation for you. We look forward to seeing you next year.

This house is perfect for a larger family! There are 18 of us at present, and this house meets all our needs. Our oldest daughter, her husband, and 3 children stay in the guest house, and our other 3 grown children, their spouses and combined 5 children, spread out nicely throughout the rest of the house. The rooms are large and comfortably furnished so there is plenty of room to spread out. We never feel cramped or crowded. The older grandchildren love the upstairs playroom, and there are many games and toys, as well as outdoor activities, so everyone has something to do while waiting for their turn on our boat. The house is lovingly decorated, and includes everything one would need while on vacation. The neighborhood is great for walking babies, there is a great park right down the street, as well as golf and tennis. The view of the lake is so peaceful and deer wander about in the mornings, which the children love. Chester is a darling small town, and we enjoy visiting the shops and restaraunts, one favorite is the Pine Shack Frosty - yum! The Holiday grocery store has competitive prices, and Lassen Volcanic Park is just up the road. (Do gas up your boat in Chester or Greenville - not at the marina - gas is very $$ at the marina.) I was surprised at an earlier review regarding Sharrie meeting the tenants at the door upon their arrival. The Henry's are delightful people, and I was glad to meet Sharrie on our first stay. She showed us around the house, explained how things (certain appliances) worked, where not to park, and how to handle the garbage & recycling. I for one would much rather have things explained to me than accidentally damage someone's property! This year, since we were returning tenants, we spoke to Sharrie by phone, but she did not need to meet us at her home, as we already knew our way around the place. We have already booked next summer's vacation with Sharrie & Ken - our 3rd year in a row. Our children and grandchildren talk about this annual vacation constantly, and can't wait to return. We've been to several lakes over the years with our growing family, but Almanor and the Henry's fantastic home are the perfect fit for us. It is a wonderful rental, great for any family, but if your group is a large one, this is the best choice! We feel blessed to have discovered this home, and to be able to count the Henry's as our friends. PS: Be sure to watch the sunrise over the lake in the mornings - truly one of God's gifts!
Owner response:Thank you for taking the time to write a review and sharing such kind words. We appreciate your family and look forward to seeing you next summer!

Beautiful house, more than enough space inside and out for our party, and great owners! The owners were very helpful in finding locations for sledding, eating, skiing, and anything else we needed. The view of the lake from the house is spectacular. Very impressed!
Owner response:Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I love being at the house in the winter. My kids especially enjoy the sled hill and Coppervale for affordable skiing. Winter fishing is also fun.... Glad you all had a chance to check out the area in the off-season.

If you are thinking of a stay at this beautiful cabin, you will be thrilled with your decision. The facility is clean and fresh, elegant while still warm and cozy. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. You have all the comforts of home and then some. The owners are friendly and supportive if any questions arise. There is so much to see and do there, or just relax. We very recently had a family reunion there and we all loved it. We are already making plans for another stay.
Owner response:Our home gets a "Holiday Overhaul" being decorated by us right after Thanksgiving. We are then ready for any Christmas Holiday gathering starting the first week in December. Our goal is to make a Christmas gathering as "stress-free" as possible. The main house is is fully decorated, complete with a 14 foot tree! Lighted garlands hang from all the railings in the main house so the room twinkles at night with a warm, ambient light. Turn on the roaring fire in the fireplace (it's propane, not messy wood) and sit back. We provide a big crock pot, turkey roasting pan and and 24 cup coffee pot for easy hosting along with a kitchen full of supplies for serving large groups. The Guest house is decorated also, with it's own tree, so everyone can stay in the holiday mood regardless of which house you're sleeping in. Snow removal is hassle free

14 of us were very comfortable in the house and guest house. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to fix a Thanksgiving feast and the table was big enough for us all. The weather even cooperated, snowing enough to allow snowman building and snow football, but not keeping us from getting home on time. We would love to go back in the summertime. The beds were very comfortable. Towels and linens were nice. The laundry room was great! Paper products were not included, however, so remember to bring toilet paper!
Owner response:It's satisfying to hear that your Thanksgiving was enjoyed by all. Lucky you to get a touch of snow! We would love to see you again sometime at any time of year :)

What can I say? The pictures, as wonderful as they look, simply don't do the place justice. It's huge! Everyone in our group was blown away. It all started with the owners. They were friendly, very helpful and available with lots of suggestions to make the most of out trip. Then there's the house. It had all the amenities we could ask for. The kitchen was top notch! All the bedrooms are of good size. We didn't even need the guest-house, though we could tell it was nice too. Every morning I would wake up and sit in the great room to watch the sun rise over the lake. Stunning! There was a little herd of deer (fawns, does and a buck) that wandered through the yard daily. And it was so quiet and peaceful. We were worried that October might be too late in the season, but it was the right time to go. The weather was great (60's during the day and 40's at night) and it was very relaxing. And for those that like running, the peninsula is perfect. It's a 4.5 mile round trip run if you don't mind hills. If you want flat, it's about 4 miles down and back avoiding the hills. And can't say enough about Lassen National Park. It's about 20-30 minutes away. And after dealing with the "business" of Yosemite, it was refreshing to see something so beautiful without a mob of people. One day, we went it through the southeastern entrance to Juniper Lake. Throughout the entire trip in and out (and during the 1-1/2 hour hike), we only saw 3 other groups of people. I was even impressed with the grocery store in Chester. We were able to obtain things I would not have guessed we could pick up in a store in a "small town." I recommend the area as a vacation spot for groups of individuals and families and if you do decide to go, I highly recommend checking out this property.
Owner response:You all came at one of the most beautiful times of the year for the Lake Almanor area! Thank you for your kind words and details of what we and the Chester area have to offer. It was a pleasure hosting your group.

We are a men's hiking group (eight guys ages 48 to 77) who do an annual weekend hiking get away. We found this wonderful home while searching for a place close to Mt. Lassen which could provide a bed for each of us, a large kitchen and large dinning room table. It was perfect. It is truly an amazing home and outstanding location directly on the lake. We were amazed that the owners would allow this great home to be available for rent. We were so pleased with our stay in Sept. 2010 that we are again staying there this year. With Mt. Lassen close by, there are so many hiking trails to explore. The photos you see on this web sight are exactly what the home looks like and in fact don't really don't do the home justice. The kitchen is full equipped and the appliances are first class. We always cook for ourselves so we were pleased to see the wonderful kitchen. The living room is very comfortable and nicely furnished. The home is spotless and in perfect condition. All the beds were comfortable. The large dinning room table was exactly what we wanted. After our dinner and a good days hiking, it is always nice to settle down for a relaxing evening where we are comfortable and can talk about our hike, share a Brandy and solve the problems of the world. We have been doing these weekend hiking getaways for over ten years and this is by far the best home we have found. The owners are wonderful to work with. Very professional and very personal. All the rental transactions were smooth and communications very complete. If some one wants a large home in a beautiful setting which can accommodate a large group, we highly recommend this great home. You will not be sorry Our only sad note is that at some point we will have hiked all that Mt. Lassen has to offer and we won't need to come here again. Many thanks for sharing your amazing home with us.
Owner response:These men were a wonderful group to host! It is so satisfying to be a small part of the activities of groups with such diverse interests. The Lake Almanor basin is rich in recreational opportunities beyond summer sports, from hiking, bicycle tours, fishing, and golf. As well as winter sports like snowmobiling and cross country skiing for the more adventurous spirit. We have maps of the national forests for those who wish to seek out the trails and get "off- the- beaten path" and Lassen National Park is a treasure of it's own.

We were looking for something unique for my Mom's 70th birthday. We rented the house from Sharrie and it was perfect! We had 8 adults and four kids. The kids and their parents stayed in the guest house which worked out better than we could have imagined. Both houses were equipped with games, toys, televisions, DVD players, even movies to watch! All you really need to bring is clothes, food, and lake toys. We brought a ski boat and a jet ski which were tons of fun on the warm water (August) of Almanor. At one point we were looking to trap some crawdads and joked that we finally found something the house didn't have, crawdad traps! We went into town and bought a trap only to later find a set of traps under the deck. All in all it was a great trip. We would recommend this property very highly to others.
Owner response:You all deserved a fantastic time for your mother's special day and I'm thrilled you chose our home! If guest's find that we're missing something, anything, like crawdad traps :-) , we will make every effort to provide it. We do have traps and outdoor toys (trucks, shovels, buckets, kites etc.) to share under the deck so the young children can stay busy. We also have badminton and a game similar to horseshoes for older children and adults. The guest house is also furnished with puzzles, books, a children's kitchen set, a children's work bench with saws, screwdrivers, etc., dress up clothes for boys and girls and many other things to keep the children occupied in things that allow the parents to supervise while still enjoying adult conversation.

Our family, grandparents, children and their children had a wonderful week at this beautiful home. We are hoping that we can rent the house for another week in 2011. It could not have been nicer. Everyone in our family has been asking to go there again next summer.
Owner response:I'm so glad you were able to join us for your family vacation. We host many family reunions and have made it an important focus in our acommodations. We have many large pots and pans, serving dishes, plenty of dishes and flatware to meet the needs of the large groups who visit. We have games and activities for large groups and small groups so special family times are easy to organize and there is space for everyone to be together. Pat and family, we'll cross our fingers that your busy schedule will permit you all to come again...

We stayed at this beautiful lakefront home last summer for our family reunion and it was perfect for us. Between the main home and the attached guest house, there was plenty of room for all of the adults and teenage kids to spread out. The house is beautiful inside and out, clean, and spacious. The kitchen is large and has everything you could possibly need to cook for a large group. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck enjoying the view, bar-b-queing and playing games. The location can't be beat with easy flat access to the lake and within an easy walk to the beautiful community park where we had our annual family battles of wiffle ball and badminton. Sherry and Ken were wonderful hosts, making sure we were well prepared in advance for our visit and quick to respond to any questions that we had before and during our stay. We will definitely rent this home again!
Owner response:It was so nice to meet your family last summer and hear the tales of your family competitions of wiffle ball and badminton. Such fun! Thank you for sharing your experience and we look forward to hosting your wonderful family again.

Beautiful, spacious home with plenty of room for all of us. Property was very clean, well maintained and as advertised. Our family has spent many a summer vacationing at Lake Almanor and will return to this location again. Bike/running trail close by is a plus. The town of Chester is fun to visit, our families always spend one evening at the bowling alley and make several trips to the Pine Shack Frosty. I would highly recommend this property to someone else.
Owner response:Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The lovely paved bike/walking/running trail that hugs the west side of Lake Almanor starts at the south end of Lake Almanor West ( our subdivision) so a guest can start right at our house and use the trail all the way down to the dam. You'll even pass 2 restaurants, Plumas Pines and Carol's Cafe, if you want to stop for a meal or just need a rest. We'll see you all next summer!!

What a beautiful home! I spent much of my time lake-side in the comfortable chairs thoughtfully placed there by the Henrys. The scenery, breeze, a book, and the company of other family members were wonderful relaxation. The shore is a close, easy, gentle slope from the house (which was much appreciated by my Senior-Citizen arthritic hip). I got beat soundly by my grandson, with lots of laughter, in a rousing game of ping-pong. Great memories. I will definitely be back.

Thank you for providing such a wonderful home and location for our 2010 family vacation. We had all 18 members of the family for a week and enjoyed every minute. The home is well designed to allow complete privacy and the extra quarters were great for the children. The new dock worked great with our boat and provided easy access to the lake. We were able to play a little golf and enjoyed the park down the road. Many activities for the whole family. Hope to be back next year.
Owner response:Thank you Gary for your kind words. We put considerable thought into the design and layout of the house and the new dock, to best facilitate memorable moments for our family. I am pleased that it works so well for our guest groups who also desire to invest in those closest to them. We'll see you next year!

We just booked our third reservation with the Henry's! There is nothing not to love about this property. The setting is absolutely stellar with beautiful views of the lake. The homes themselves are impeccably maintained inside and out and wonderfully designed. We have three children and the house is stocked with games and toys - never a dull moment. We like to ride our bikes and the house is located very close to the Almanor trail - a meandering paved trail that goes down the west side of the lake. My 10 and 8 year olds ride the whole 13 miles with me. The Biz Johnson trail is not too far away and there is some fantastic/challenging mountain biking a short distance away in Susanville. We've also fallen in love with the little mountain town of Chester and the surrounding area. We did a great horseback ride with a local gal. The little park about .5 miles away is perfect - basketball court, play equipment and everything else is there. Many days, we just had fun sitting on the dock and chasing down crawdads! We see this property as a perfect reflection of the owners. The Henry's are the most hospitable kinds of people one finds in this lifetime. We have enjoyed every interaction we have had with them.
Owner response:Thank you for taking the time to share with our readers the blessings you've received from your time at our home. When our children were younger I remember hauling buckets of toys, games and activities to keep them busy when we went places. When we were planning the offering of our home it seemed natural to try to address the needs of our younger guests. We want them to have a great, busy time because this will help everyone's, adults included, vacation be more pleasant and memorable. For those guests who return year after year, I think the home feels more and more like "their place". We hope as each guest is introduced to us and the home and feels welcome and that they can put their feet up and relax as if they are in "their" vacation home.

We were so excited to spend my husband's 40th birthday here with friends and family, we looked forward to it for months. The house and the property were so beautiful. At the time of our arrival we were shocked to find out that the owner would be staying with us on the property in the guest house. It was no longer the relaxing get away we had hoped for. We felt mis-led and disappointed.
Owner response:Please Read The Rental Agreement Before You Sign The Contract. A provision is made as an item number in our contract that states clearly that "the owner may reside in a separate guesthouse co-located on this property". It's unfortunate that Nat felt "mis-led and disappointed". Ken and I make every effort to communicate honestly and make our guests feel comfortable. It is our goal to provide accommodations that make each guest's stay a memorable blessing in their lives. You're welcome to read the explanation of this situation ....... I received Nat's reservation request 4 weeks before her arrival. Because the house had been winterized I went up to the house 5 days ahead of her arrival to get everything ready. My plan had been to turn on the water and the heat so it would be toasty warm for them and give the house a once over for dust, etc. as it had been a little while since we'd been there. What I found upon my arrival was that the cold spells had frozen and cracked shower cartridges, kitchen faucets leaked, I had a broken pipe in the wall of one bathroom, and it takes 2+ days to heat to house up after it's been closed for awhile because we have radiant floor heating. I had alot of work to do in order to keep this reservation for Nat and I now had only 4 days to complete it all. I was determined to give the repairs my best effort as I knew it was a special occassion for her. I called my handyman and we started picking away at the to-do list. We had the house ready just hours before Nat and her group arrived. I greeted them and showed them around the house and then bid farewell and went to the guest house. I had decided that it was wisest to stay close rather than driving the 3 hours back to my home. I was concerned that because I had so many surprises when I originally arrived, there may be issues that were going to pop up that I couldn't foresee and it would be best for me to be there to take care of things immediately. I did not come out of the guest house until after their departure 3 days later so as to "stay low" and try to "not be noticed". I believe I did the best that could be done to have the house prepared and provide a comfortable time for our guests while assuring that any surprises could be immediately addressed.

Our family just spent our yearly "Family vacation time" at the Henry's Lake Almanor home. What a house! Out of all of our other yearly ventures I think this was the most relaxing for everyone. Our four year old grandson was disappointed though. He set a squirrel trap(a box & stick) and thank goodness had no luck! Thankyou so much Sharrie & Ken for sharing your beautiful home. We are thinking of coming back during snow season.
Owner response:Squirrel hunting" must have been a fun adventure! We are visited by deer, squirrels, ground squirrels/chipmunks, lizards, etc. and are all entertaining. We also have eagles and osprey that are a special treat to see, as well as the jabber of the birds in the trees to give you some backgound music. I'm glad that you were able to enjoy the chance to slow down and relax. September and October are wonderful months to enjoy this area without the business of the summer tourists. Hiking and Golf are perfect activities for these months. Thanks for remembering that we are available for rental year round now so the lake and Chester area can be enjoyed any time. We would love to have you join us in the winter. You will love the snow!!

I stayed here quite a while back but never got around to writing a review. I stumbled on this property again and decided I should share my thoughts. When we arrived the owner came out the front door to greet us. She then proceeded to come in the house and talk with us for about 25 minutes. In the early morning of our departure she came out of the VERY attached unit, it was shocking! She had indicated she had been there all night. Yikes! I feel for the kind of money they are charging they should give their renters privacy. We were so angry that she was waiting for us when we arrived-they need to learn about boundaries. NO one wants to owner creeping around when you are trying to relax and enjoy your privacy. The other issue was the beach, it took forever to walk to it from the house and it was covered in sharp rocks(No soft sand). The pictures really make the house seem a lot bigger than it actually was. I think if the owner put in BOLD print that they would be sharing the house, people would not want to stay. Would NOT recommend.
Owner response:I was surprised to receive this review. When this guest departed after renting, almost 3 years ago, I thought we were on good terms. We were never made aware of any concerns during their stay and were left with the impression that they had had an enjoyable vacation. Our other Guest Reviews support the sentiment that our home is a wonderful place for a restful vacation and that beautiful memories can be made there.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Henry, What a wonderful home. The view is great and we really enjoyed our stay. Two of the fellas fished off the dock and thankfully, didn't catch any fish so we just enjoyed our regular breakfast. We all loved your wonderful furnishings/decorations and your mantle is spectacular. Thanks for this opportunity to share your home.
