A+ A-frame!!

We had such a relaxing vacation at your cozy Hut! We spent most of our time in the mornings drinking coffee on the front porch in the sunshine listening to birds and the ocean sounds. We followed the sun around to the deck in the afternoons and enjoyed hours of reading and watching the beautiful ocean! Thank you for letting us bring our dogs...we took many long walks! The kitchen is well-equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We especially loved your little rocking chairs on the deck! The weather cooperated with us and we left tan and refreshed!

Owner response:I love those rocking chairs, too! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay - - and that the weather cooperated! And, thank you from both Sarah and me for leaving things in such a lovely condition! Hope that you return someday! ~ judi

Perfect Beach House!

Guest: LeMoTravel (Seattle, WA )
Date of Stay: 04/05/12 Review Submitted: 04/09/12

We loved every minute of our stay at "The Hut"! This beach house is exactly as pictured. Amazing ocean views! It was so peaceful waking up each day to the beautiful ocean view in the master bedroom. The views from the living room are even better! It was a fun 3 minute hike down to the beach from the house. We found sand dollars and other great shells on the beach right out front. Easy to find location within a 10 minute drive of downtown Florence and a 5 minute drive to Fred Meyer. The street was quiet and tucked away from the main road. The house has absolutely everything you need for a great stay! Fully stocked kitchen, plenty of linens, hairdryer etc. There was even a card from the owner welcoming us to the property when we arrived! Thanks for a wonderful and relaxing trip! We cannot wait to stay again!

Owner response:And the Hut can't wait for your return! Thanks for your patience with the detours caused by the flooding of Heceta Road! Reading your description made me very lonesome for that wonderful morning wake-up view of the mighty Pacific! Thank you for enjoying (and noticing) the comforts that The Hut strives to provide. We cannot wait for your return! (oh, and thanks so much for leaving things in such great condition!).....~ judi

What a great little place!!! The house is comfortable and cozy. It's exactly as described and the view is spectacular. With a little less wind and rain, the stay would have been fantastic. We picked a time when the rain just didn't stop.

Owner response:Thank you, Jean! I'm sorry about the weather, but happy that The Hut was a "port in a storm!" We never know about the weather at the Oregon Coast! Sarah, the Hut's housekeeper, and I appreciate your having left things in such nice order! We'll hope for better weather for your next visit! .... judi

Wonderful Retreat

Guest: Olina (United States)
Date of Stay: 03/21/12 Review Submitted: 03/25/12

The Hut was exactly as presented - great beach view, charming, clean, cozy, and welcoming. My husband, adult daughter and two doggies stayed for three days and thoroughly enjoyed the comfort of The Hut. The pathway to the beach was mildly challenging and would not be recommended for those with mobility issues but another beach access at the Driftwood Shores provided quick and easy beach access. I would definitely recommend The Hut and would absolutely stay there again. The Best Thai restaurant was very delicious and we had not problem finding vegan options on their menu. We enjoyed driving up to Cape Perpetua lookout but mostly we enjoyed walking on the beach in front of The Hut and watching the waves roll in from the spacious view.

Owner response:Thank you for your lovely review. I'm happy to hear that you had a good time and a nice reunion with your daughter and a fun time with your pups! Please come again! ~ judi

The Hut

We enjoyed our short stay at the Hut. The house was comfortable and cozy and was furnished with everything we needed. I loved sitting on the sofa in the morning with my coffee and looking out over ocean in front of me. It takes less than 5 minutes to get to the beach where you can walk for miles. We experienced sun, rain, clouds, sleet and some very strong winds. The owner responded quickly with directions and stayed in touch to make sure everything was ok - thank you!

Owner response:And thank YOU for sharing the stunning pictures that you took! Glad you had a good time! ~ judi

A good place to stay. Helpful owner, as picture and discribed. Definitely recommen this quiet retreat. We loved our beach walks and friendly town restaurants, nearby trails very interesting . We mostly stayed at the house and did our own cooking. Very fun and different from our big Kansas farm house. thank you Hut!

Owner response:I'm so happy that you enjoyed your stay at the Hut, Linda! I hope you return again some day and I hope that someday I can see a real Kansas farmhouse! Thank you for being such a thoughtful guest at the Hut! Have a wonderful spring! ~ judi

What a fabulous mini-vacation we had at the 'hut'! It was exactly as we saw it in the pictures on vrbo and sooo comfortable and beachy! We had everything we needed for a romantic and relaxing stay. It was such a plus to be able to have our dogs with us, too! We all enjoyed many walks on the beach in the amazingly beautiful weather. It was even warm enough to spend an afternoon lounging on the deck in the comfortable deck chairs thoughtfully provided. We drove out to see the Heceta Head and Yaquina lighthouses-spectacular and the volunteers were fun and very informative. We had lunch in Yachats at the Drift Inn-yummy crab melt and friendly staff. We also had a memorable dinner at the Waterfront Depot in Florence. Love that place! Very busy but the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious! Can't wait to come back for another stay. Thank you!

Owner response:So good to hear that you all four enjoyed your time at The Hut and that you were able to enjoy the fabulous weather! You seem to have done many of the things I enjoy there - - Waterfront Depot, walking on the beach and exploring the lighthouses. For next time, you might add the Umpqua Lighthouse on Winchester Bay in Reedsport (just south of Florence). It is not as famous as the others, but is beautiful and also the "sister" lighthouse to the one at Heceta Head. Thanks for visiting the Hut! ~ judi

House with a view

Guest: hrg (Eugene, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 01/27/12 Review Submitted: 02/01/12

The Hut is everything and more than what the VRBO listing describes. The Hut sits in a charming Florence neighborhood on a dead end street. The wall of glass in the living room is all that separates you from the mighty Pacific Ocean and sunsets that make your heart stop. The house is thoughtfully appointed without being cluttered. The kitchen is small and extremely functional. The owner has made very good use of each space and the rooms are open and light. The Hut truly affords an ocean front Oregon experience.

Owner response:Thank you! I'm so happy that you enjoyed yourselves - - in much the same way that I do when I am fortunate enough to be there! And, thank you from both me and from my housekeeper for leaving The Hut in such a tidy condition. You are welcome back anytime! ~ judi

Great Beach House

Guest: back_werd (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 01/14/12 Review Submitted: 01/18/12

We had a fantastic time on our quick weekend getaway to the beach. The setting is fantastic - an unobstructed ocean view on a secluded drive. The beautiful and uncrowded beach is a short walk away. The house had everything we needed: full kitchen, dining table, couches for spreading out and enjoying the view, a giant king bed, and two spare bedrooms. Setting up the rental was easy. The owner provided great information on the property (directions, lockbox, turning on the head, etc.) and the surrounding area. She even chimed in over email to let us know of some local events going on in Florence during the weekend of our stay. We plan to rent this unit again.

Owner response:Thank you, Drew! I will be delighted to welcome all of you again someday. Stay warm and dry! I hear it's going to be stormy in Portland.

Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful place for my girlfriend and I to spend a long weekend away. The house is absolutely charming and so well equipped for cozy nights spent playing the many board games. The kitchen would make Martha Stewart feel right at home with all the amenities one would need to fix a dinner of fresh seafood straight off the boats. Everything was so very clean and we loved being able to use the binoculars to watch the boats out on the sea. The little path to the beach gave us a feel of a real adventure. Having the tide table book was handy, too, as we were able to find many sea shells and six whole sand dollars! We wish we could have stayed longer but we will be back for sure as soon as we can. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful place to stay and wonderful memories!

Large shells and sand dollars. Many were broken, but managed to find a few jewels from the ocean. Dogs LOVED running on the sand dunes and beach. Came back to our nice retreat for naps. :-) BBQ dinners, wine on the patio & ddeck, down comforters on the bed, such a nice place for a vacation. The 14hur drive from Hanford, CA was well worth it. Hey Judi - - We girls enjoyed your "Hut"! Just adorable, comfy and quaint. Just like we love! Sleeping here is the best - sound of the surf, goose down comforters, lamps by all the beds, makes going to bed special! We walked the beach, shopped in town, ate at Waterfront Depot - our favorite, in general. We just did the downtown walk, talk and gawk! Thank you for sharing your hut and pretty section of the Oregon Coast. Met some nice people on the beach who gave me a whole handful of sand dollars in perfect shape! Not sure his wife appreciated it! Oh well! Shirley Crane, Judy, Bobbi and Carol ps: Next time I'm bringing Riley, my Maltese.

Dear Judy and Folks: Here's to The Hut! What a great place to stay and enjoy the Dunes! We were here a week in September and used this place as our "base camp." (We used to camp around here, but it's too cold in the fall!) We went on lots of walks and saw lighthouses, too. We ate dinner in every night and used the kitchen lots. The Crab Shack has the best fish to grill. We had blue fin tuna, albacore anad salmon. We splurged and got lots of oysters, too. High living? Yes! Bridgewater has some nice lunches. A great berry cobbler, both coffee places are great - try one you Starbucks people (Buy Local). We went to Newport for the aquarium and lunch on Friday. Lunch was great. Went to a small plates place and ordered a little of this and some of that. Bay 839 at south end of wharf area - 541-265-2839. Wonderful food and view. Otherwise, Newport too busy on a Friday and too big. Also, Nye Beach still ok and there is a Farmers' Market on Saturday and on Sunday. Also in Florence. Best place to buy produce and fruit. All Oregonian stuff - great peaches. We're packing up today to go visit the Really Big Trees - redwoods - and del Norte and Jed Smith. We got re-aquainted here again and celebrated 30 years together! Forgot about work, too! Bless the Ocean! Patty and David

Judi - Our 2nd time staying at the Hut. Glad it was available during the week of our 36th anniversary. Were blessed with a lot of sunny weather. Took multiple walks along the beach as well. Found a new favorite restaurant in town: "1285 Restobar" in Old Town. Great food and service. Ended up there one evening when Waterfront Depot was totally full up and owner sent us across to 1285 which is her's as well. Glad she did! Unfortunately, a courtesy menu not available. Between Sea Lion Caves and Yachats, one day we pulled over at one of the view points and witnessed a large group of sea lions basking in the sun and frolicking in the water. Great entertainment for all us tourists who stopped to enjoy the view as well. All in all - - wonderful week at "The Hut" getting away from it all. Mareen and Scott

Hi Judi, Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed ourselves at "the Fabulous Little Beach Hut"! One of our best vacations ever. Beach-walks, golf, skim boarding, more beach-walks, BBQ'd oysters(amazing little kitchen!), quads on the dunes(even ME!). Lots of staring out the windows & back deck sitting too. Great naps! A jigsaw puzzle addiction with my teen boys allowed for minimal electronic gizmo interference! It was truly joyful. Made even more poignant by the fact that our oldest is heading off to college in a few weeks. OSU! I know for certain we'll be back. So thankful to have grabbed that cancellation!

Judi, our stay has been fabulous! Highlights included the acquarium in Newport, sandboarding at Sand Master Park, riding the dunes with Sandland Adventures, eating great seafood at Mo's, cruising the open aiar market at Coos Bay, body surfing in the cold Pacific (thank goodness for wetsuits!), unbelievable sunsets and, of course, falling asleep to the sounds of the surf! Tomorrow we leave for Gold Beach where we'll tour the Rogue River on a jet boat. From there our 2 week vacation in Washington and Oregon will end and we will be forced to return to our "real" lives in Sacramento, CA! Thanks for sharing this little piece of heaven you call "the Hut" with us. Until next time, Rick, Cindi, Bryan and Michael

Morning and evening walks on the beach, reading on the couch and looking out at the ocean, cooking meals together in the kitchen (that has everything you could possibly need)! The downstairs bedroom was a perfect "man-cave" for my video-game playing teenage sons! We loved the flower garden and watching all the birds! Exploring the tidepools was a blast! The views and comfort were perfect for relaxing after travels from London, Montana and California. We really give you special thanks for organising the stunnin weather - the sunshine really transported us to another world and season. The beach was superb for walks. Only sorry not to have more time for birdwatching, as it looks like a great spot for it. The kitchen was great - we loved the spice grainders, especially red pepper, which we hadn't seen - but great to have those few essentials on hand. We would love to visit again sometime. Thank you! Judi - - We had an absolutely wonderful week at the Coast and really enjoyed your great beach home. Rick and Elle surprised us by leaving a batch of scones in the freezer, which we enjoyed for Sunday breakfast. The weather was a bit cool, a little rainy at times, but we began and ended our stay with spectacular days. Visited the Willamette Valley wine country, the dunes, the lighthouses and the falls around Mapleton. Definitely sampled the best of the area. Sue loves to cook and agreed with Elle that your kitchen was as well-equipped as any vacation home we've ever seen - - what a great bonus. Judi - this is what we left in the guest book yesterday - along with the biscotti recipes. We thought you might want to have your own machinable copy. R&EDear Judi,We decided to take this trip to the Oregon coast to celebrate our recent marriage.Rick was born and raised in NYC and eventually moved to Seattle where he raised two daughters. Elle was born in California and moved around the central California coast for many, many years to pursue her successful career in retailing. The fact that we even met was amazing so we wanted to do something out of the ordinary, at least for us, but also something that would allow us the time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and each other. We found that in your “Hut”.We really did appreciate the little things that you do for your guests including, but certainly not limited to, the notebooks of things to do, places to go, local eateries, and even a well-stocked seasoning and herb basket. And who could have imagined finding a full set of Henckel knives in a rental house? We love to entertain and cook for family and friends so we were pleased to find a couple of kitchen and accessory boutiques in Old Town that carry unusual kitchen items and where we were able to pick up a few special items that we plan to use when we get back to Seattle. We really do intend to come again. In the meantime, we thought we would leave you one of our favorite recipes for chocolate biscotti. We’re mostly retired now but Elle is thinking about either opening a yoga practice or a small bakery so you can bet that when made correctly her biscotti is scrumptious. We’d like to think that others will use the recipe and enjoy it long after we return to Seattle.Rick &Elle

Thanx so much for a comfortable place to stay. Slept so well in that comfortable bed with the ocean in the background. Celebrated our 34th anniversary here. Ate at Driftwood Shores twice. Excellent food and wine prices very reasonable. Also ate at Int'l C-Food Market. Very good as well. Toured Heceta Head Lighthouse. Fantastic view. Can't help but believe that the lighthouse keepers enoyed their time spent there as well. Enjoyed walking the beach each day and the hike up the dunes beats a StairMaster any day! Marleen and Scott

Today we went golfing at the dunes. It got kind hard because you coldn't see the green. Later me and Bo went boogie boarding, but we ditched the board and swam around. Then we had a fresh seafood dinner on the patio and ended with watching the sunset and finishing a puzzle. Saw a seal outside Mo's, went shopping at the Bead and Bass Store - - nice people. Good lunch at 9th St. BBQ. Kids ran around the dunes as much as possible. Talked about wine at the Ocean Dunes golf bar. Two days of sun - - last day it rained. PERFECT WEEKEND! The Donnellys

I had a great time here at the "Hut?" We loved going to all of the tide pools. We saw a bunch of star fish, a crab a lot of sea anemones and lots more. And, waking up to the ocean is wonderful! We also saw a huge osprey with a live fish in its beak! We will be back! Thanks! Willow Smith, age 11 The rest of the Smith family wholeheartedly agrees with Willow! Today is my birthday and I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be. The house is just about the most comfortable home we've rented (and not a bit cramped. It's a little house with a big heart!) Can't thank you enough for giving us 5 perfect holiday days. Chicago will be tough to return to. Maybe we won't.....! Well, well, well, what can be said that others haven't said already? We'll give it a try. Judi, we do a bit of traveling since we met and we'd like to let you know that "The Hut" is right at the top of the list. You have put some of the most expensive and pricey Bed and Breakfasts to shame. We really felt like we were home and not just visiting. Kudos! It is our first time in Oregon and one thing is for sure - - it ain't New York! To Diana's delight, I even forgot about the Mets for a few days. Although it was overcast for the visit, it actually turned out to be a blessing. Instead of lounging on the beach most of the day, we actually took in a ton of coastal adventures instead: Cape Perpetua, Devil's Churn, south to Coos Bay, ATV in the sand dunes, whale spouts at Seal Rock (maybe Di's favoriate), sea lions, Old Town browsing, Newport for dinner one night, and that's just a few things. All of that stuff was great, but by far the best time was spent right here at your back door. That's the real adventure of our trip to the Oregon Coast. Coffee in the morning, a glass of wine in the evening, a book midday, sharing the time and peace and quiet with the woman I love at your little Hut on the shore. We'll be back. George and Diana

What a perfect way to end our vacation. Fourteen days on the road and ending at the beach Hut. Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Monterey and up the Californian and Oregon coasts to the Hut. Giant sequoias, redwoods, cave spelunking, tide pool investigating. We had perfect weather here. Walked to the jetty and explored the sea life on the rocks. Sea Lion Caves. Rented a sand board down at Sand Master and surfed the dunes. Went to Honeyman State Park and splashed in Cleavox Lake. Great for kids. Paddle boats, 25 cent popcorn, newts were very willing to be picked up. Simply gorgeous. Make sure you hit the Krab Kettle on the southeast of town (101). The halibut, Dungeness and prawns are the best you'll eat (and I'm picky about seafood). The beach is the best. The waves rock and the ocean will sing you to sleep at night. We just got back from a week at "the hut". It worked well for us as a family (2 adults, 4 kids)...nice and close to the beach, and not a lot of people around! We went to the sand dunes, traveled to the Safari outside Winston, saw Cape Perpetua and a few other beaches in the area. The hut is well equipped with full kitchen needs, washer, dryer, etc. My daughter called it cozy!!
