From our guestbook in the Love Shack "We had a great week here-a welcome escape from the wintertime in northern New England. The Love Shack is Delightful with its pastel colored walls, cottage furniture and decorations. We also found it very user friendly with its modern kitchen & bathroom. We spent time walking on the beach with our dog, collecting sea shells, went into Southport and enjoy taking the self guided walking tour. Lots of shops and restaurants we barely scratched the surface and would love to return...."

From our Guestbook: "Thank you Love Shack for being our home base while we were here on our first trip to Oak Island. A beautiful, beautiful place. The beach was the highlight of course and we spent most of our time there. The various boardwalks were pretty fun and the view of the marsh spectacular (watching the crabs was fun for the kids) Got on a bike for the first time in years and had a blast. Recommend Turtle Island restaurant for dinner - excellent crab cakes, shrimp & grits. Flying Pig is great for coffee. Will be back for sure! We fell in love"

From our Guestbook: "Dear Future House Guests, The house was as cute as advertised and all the things you need are included. The TV only gets 4 channels and they all play either Dr. Phil, The Beverly Hillbillies or are in Spanish, but why are you watching TV anyway?? The beach was amazing. Warm water, nice breezes and on Monday about ten dolphins swimming around for an hour (and they were REALLY close the the shore!) Sunsets were nice and the pelicans were a good touch. The island was quieter than expected, but perfect for a family. Nighlight was a bust, but some restaurant tips... BBQ Place - AWESOME! everything was great. Shagger Jacks - Lobster Corndogs - really good! Leaky Teaky Ice Cream - not creamy enough but okay Russells - good breakfast Little Bits Grill - bad breakfast - greezsy and undercooked. We heard lunch was great though. Southport - Provision co was a good meal, but odering at the door wasn't our favorite thing. The town was basically shut down by four during the week. Wilmington - worth the drive. Great shops, restaurants and bars. Much better than sleepy Southport Anyway, you'll have fun if you take advantage of the area and try it all!!"

From Our Guestbook: "Dear Kevin & Debra Well we cam to OKI for the 2011 Dixie Boys State Baseball Tournament- its was held in Southport. We did not win but thats okay it made our vacation time a little longer after we lost out on Tues. Congrats to the Brunswick County Dixie Boys won won the tournament! They were an awesome team! Now, the Love Shack - so very very nice I enjoyed it from the time I laid eyes on it. So nice and decorately for cute for all its guests top enjoy! We will certainly want to stay here again. I bouth a very small car last year to save on gas and was so thankful to have bikes, chairs and all the ammenities waiting for us when we arrived!! YUou all are so kind to have your guests best interest at heart! Thank you again for a wonderful week at the "Island Love Shack" Your beautiful getaway at the beach made for a wonderful stay for the Merrill Family! Some of our favorite places The sub shop - beside DQueen very good!! We ate 2xs it was so good!! Rucker Johns in Wilmington The Confectionary right before OKI Bridge on Rt going toward Southport was better than Crazy Chicks - we tried both! The BBQ House - very good also! Shopping at - the Cat on a wish in Southport - awesome kitchen store. Ocean Outfitters in Southport - all we great I am sure there are many many more but a week would not allow us to see it wall - we must come back. THanks to Kevin & Debra!! We are rested and relaxed!"

What a great house!! We had a fabulous long weekend in this cute home! Close to the beach! We spent some time on the beaches at Oak Island and then took a ferry ride from Southport over to Ft Fisher where we spent some time in the sand there. Attended a beautiful wedding at the Southport Marina and this home was just the icing on the cake! Great beach cottage! Loved everything about it. Not a complaint at all! Hope to be back! My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at the Love Shack. We rode the bikes down to the beach and sat on the beach for hours. Even though the house is a few blocks from the beach you can still hear the waves from the patio! We grilled on the grill at the house for dinner and cooked a full breakfast using a fully stocked kitchen. The cottage has everything one would need and more! Beach chairs, towels, grill, sheets, blankets, cooler, bikes, and to top it off - it's extra clean! The newly updated bath was spa like and the updated floor in the main living area was well maintained. We can't wait for our next visit!

A wonderful cottage - charming, comfortable, well decorated, very clean, pictures are very accurate. Lots of little extra touches - candles, paper goods, kitchen linens and cleaning supplies, lots of magazines and previous guests have left menus from area restaurants. Debra responds very quickly to any questions or concerns. Getting to the beach is an easy 10 minute straight walk. We will definitely plan a return trip in warmer weather and recommend the Love Shack to friends and family.

We stayed a few days to celebrate my birthday. We had so much fun. The cottage is soooo adorable!!! It's just perfect. Very well updated and so cozy. Every little detail was thought of and all we really needed was our bathing suits. It made for such a worry free vacation. We want to come back soon!! We also realzied that there is a skydive dropzone 4 miles away. My husband is a skydiver so he was able to enjoy that as well. Thanks so much and we will be back!!

This was my husband and myself first married vacation and we loved the Island Loveshack. We felt right at home on the first day. We loved being able to bring our dog, Tess(she loved the ocean). The bikes were a wonderful extra, I took Tess for bike rides every night. All the neighbors were extremely friendly. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. Very quiet town. This was exactly what we were looking for.

The beach was wonderful; we had great weather. Thanks for all the information you left; it was really helpful. We had great dining at the Fish House - Wonderful food a great ocean view. We met up with two of our daughters and their families who are also vacationing here and took the ferry to Fort Fisher and went to the aquarium there – fun for all – very child friendly. We also visited the USS North Carolina – fantastic!! You obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into your decorating and all the amenities you provided. My family enjoyed our stay at the Island Love Shack. The cottage is clean, well kept. Close to everything but quiet neghborhood. The beach is nice too, family oriented. My husband got our first surfing lessons from Indo Jax's. The kids enjoyed the beach and crabbing. We enjoyed a drive to Myrtle beach for board walk excitement. Wilmington and Southport nice for day visits. USS North Carolina great the kids loved it. Thanks had a great week but as always over too soon. July 3-10, 2010

The bikes, grill & rolling cooler are greatly appreciated! I had 6 days of sunshine and 2 rainy days to laze around & read inside. Deb - we had an excellent time at your home. It was the perfect location from the beach, nestled in a quiet neighborhood! Even the dogs enjoyed sitting out back on the deck and soaking up the sunshine! We walked with the pups every morning on the beach, and took a stroll or bike ride around the neighborhood every evening and often read the day away sitting on the front or back porch - even napping in the hammock! We also took your recommendation and went to South Port a few times during the week - Provision Company is a great place to eat! We also enjoyed the fresh seafood we got from Haag and Sons and loved the BBQ joint down the road - thanks for supplying the grill - steak and fresh shrimp never tasted better! The beach was quiet and peaceful, the people courteous and friendly and most of all the house provided a nice place to come to and relax - we really did get away from our busy DC life! The only thing we missed was our king size bed! Thank you again for letting us bring our puppies and for the cozy "shack" we "shore" loved!

We enjoyed riding the bikes and walking to the beach. Great exercise – we slept like babies each night and awoke refreshed each morning. The beach was just about ours alone each day – (the calm before Memorial Day I’m sure). Thanks for renting such a cute, quiet & clean place. The weather and the fishing weren’t as cooperative but we had fun riding the bikes looking for shells and eating at Dairy Queen. Oak Island restaurant is one of the best down here. The lunch menu is a great value. “The Point” at the west end of the beach is like a seashell gift shop. Blue Crab Blue gift shop has some very pretty, handcrafted items. Thanks again for a well equipped house; maybe we’ll see it again. The Atkinsons Kernersville

April 5th – 10th It was just what we needed, quiet beach, quiet house, all cozy and filled with light and love We found just about everything we needed - Seafood from Haags, groceries from Food Lion. In Wilmington we ate at the Copper Penny on Chestnut Street, just up from Water St. It’s a bar/restaurant and the food is excellent. Best BLT (from a friend and our waitress). Deb We have found a gem! Your cottage is a true “find” for a great get-away. It’s hard to find a place that allows pets and especially one so clean and nicely decorated. We really enjoyed our stay at the “Island Love Shack and we will definitely rent again. We’ve been coming to Oak Island for over 20 years because I have relatives here. Enjoyed tennis and lots of biking and some beach time of course. Our dog, Baxter, enjoyed it too. The Harris Raleigh, NC

Deb & Kevin Thank you for sharing your cute & cozy cottage with us. My husband, 2 dogs (Yuki + Candi), and myself had a wonderful time at “The Island Love Shack.” We were very pleased with how clean and well maintained the cottage was. It truly felt warm & inviting. We’ve already called family and told them how nice this home is and recommended your cottage for their next island get away. We hope to come back soon, as there is so much to see, just not enough time. Also, thanks for being pet friendly. Our dogs are our babies and its great being able to bring them w/us. The Blackwells
