Location: Prospect Harbor, Acadia, Maine, USA (Scenic Schoodic Peninsula - 30 Min from Bar Harbor/MDI)
Accommodations: Home, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 7-9)
Oceanfront home (Circa 1850) sits right in the heart of Prospect Harbor on the scenic Schoodic Peninsula. Located about an hour from Bangor and just over 30 minutes from Bar Harbor, Prospect Harbor is the ideal spot for your summer or fall vacation. This seaside retreat sits on one of the most photgraphed harbors in Maine and is a stones throw from the mainland entrance to Acadia National Park. With over 200 feet of private pink granite shoreline and direct views of the historic Prospect Harbor Lighthouse and open ocean beyond, you will enjoy a real taste of Maine.
Just a short walk out the front door and you can pick out your own lobsters as they come in off the local boats at the Prospect Harbor Trading Company. If you don't feel like cooking, several critically acclaimed eateries (Fisherman’s Inn, Le Domaine and the Crocker House) are close by. Another locals' favorite, the Downeast Deli, is in walking distance if you are craving a Lobster Roll or want some of the best Pizza and Subs available in Downeast Maine. We also recommend breakfast or lunch at Chase's Diner in nearby Winter Harbor.
At the Southern most tip of the peninsula, Schoodic Point will provide you with one of the best places in Maine to view the crashing ocean surf on the bold granite coastline. This former Rockefeller retreat is now part of Acadia National Park and open to the public year round. As you can imagine, the area is home to dozens of artists and writers who have tried to capture the splendor and beauty of the region.
The recreational activities of the area are only limited by your imagination. Whether it’s hiking, sea kayaking, fishing, hunting, biking, antiquing, or even golfing Downeast Maine has it all. In fact the local golf course may be the only in the country that provides ocean views from every hole. The area features many shops and galleries offering local crafts and wares. The Bar Harbor/Winter Harbor Ferry runs on the hour during the summer months and is a great way to avoid the traffic on Mount Desert Island/Acadia National Park.
Our historic home will provide you with all of the charm of yesteryear and the modern conveniences of life today. Recent renovations have included a jetted tub that is now part of a designer master bath, a converted barn that now serves as great room and custom built screen porch with direct light house views (see pictures). The house is furnished tastefully with many antiques and local crafts.
Four spacious bedrooms (1 King, 1 Queen, 2 Full, and 1 Twin) and three full bathrooms will provide your friends and family with plenty space to enjoy your summer and fall vacation. The upstairs bedrooms feature cathedral ceilings and new hardwood floors. The Master Suite has French doors that open to the screen porch.
Three flat screen televisions (One HDTV) offer a full complement of Direct TV and HD satellite programming (Including HBO and Local, NYC & LA Network TV). As June 2008 guests will also have access to DSL/WIFI during their stay. The kitchen has updated appliances and the laundry room also has a brand new washer and dryer. The spacious backyard is perfect for tossing a ball or picking apples and blueberries. So what are waiting for, make your plans to visit Downeast Maine today!
