Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1980
Ned Allen is a physician/owner/hobby builder with a lifetime passionate connection to Waquoit Bay. Here, as a boy, his family was frequent summertime guests of his mother's brother. The uncle's original hunting camp was destroyed in the hurricane of 1954.
With the help of family, friends, and a salty Cape Cod carpenter, in 1980 Ned fulfilled his boyhood dream of a hurricane resistant, energy efficient, passive solar, compact, waterfront summer home of his own. He personally designed, engineered, and built much of the "Wolery" from a tractor-trailer load of lumber which barely survived the tree branches overhanging narrow, then and now, unpaved Seconsett Point Road.
Although the waterfront cottage is primarily a family retreat, selected guest-tenants, often with pets, are invited to share and enjoy its idyllic location. The owners, Ned and Carolyn, are also long-time serious hobby-breeders of Labradors at Pippin Labradors on the Connecticut shoreline.
The Unique Benefits of this Deck House
Waquoit Bay is one of the Cape's largest bays. Bounded on the West and South by uninhabited land, its shallow waters and a prevailing Southwest breeze are perfect for small boating and for natural cooling on hot summer days on the mainland. The Wolery, with its secluded informal treetop living in a central location, and its superb water views and private waterfront, has hosted innumerable memorable family vacation retreats and reunions.
