our visit was from May 2, thru May 8th 2013. from the airport we caught a bus almost directly to the apt. we were given very good directions. Bus was only about 4 euro each. We were in the center of things and great tram system. Everything you read in the reviews is correct, I would return there anytime. 3 of us were there and we used each of the rooms as a bedroom, which we could close off from the other area's of the apt. Very roomy kitchen and good internet connection. It was private and no problems with the bathrooms. enjoy your stay. Brenda

Perfect location on a quiet, clean canal street yet steps away from everything. Spacious with many rooms on different levels, quaint and interesting. Huge soaking tub and comfortable queen size master room bed. Large well-equipped kitchen if you want to cook and we loved having the washer and dryer to use mid-week. Our host Marcelle and manager Ivan were lovely people and very helpful. Thank you!

We visited the apartment (3 girls) for a fun weekend in Amsterdam and were absolutely delighted when we arrived at the apartment. This apartment is extremely spacious, perfectly located (if you want to experience Amsterdam a little away from the main tourist spots, but still close enough to get anywhere in the city centre quickly by foot) and had every little thing taken care of from extra pillows and blankets to kitchen utensils not to mention a fantastic roll top bath. The apartment overlooks a very nice canal in a lovely part of Amsterdam and it is fun to sit at the window and watch the world go by, or a few steps and you are out on the street, with everything you need within 5 minutes walk e.g. clubs, grocery shops, cafes, art galleries, great transport links and lots more. Marcelle and Ivan were a delight to deal with, made us feel very welcome and ensured that we had absolutely everything we needed. All in all a perfect weekend in Amsterdam and I will only return to this apartment from now on!! Highly recommended for couples, families (the place is much bigger than I expected and has several bathrooms/toilets) and, as we had, a fab weekends away with the girls :)

We’ve just returned from one of our most wonderful weeks away. What a gracious place this is! And host, Marcelle, and her assistant Ivan, were helpful and kind. Our stay could not have been better. From the photos listed on the site, we knew it would be lovely and homey, but were not prepared for the feeling of being 'in' the rooms and living there. The front room, formal yet comfortable - with nearly 9-foot high windows - has the most wonderful original architectural details. The large plaster molding, a sculpted medallion from which the chandelier hangs, had the feeling of 17C interiors seen in paintings. What a treat to simply sit back and contemplate this voluptuous carving, or enjoy the mechanics of the complex window shutters that fold back to let the morning light fill the room. Across from the sofa is a beautiful Belgian marble fireplace, which now houses the TV we never watched. Sitting in the white chairs facing out to the canal and its waterway activity was sufficient entertainment – and it was a relaxing place to either eat breakfast or enjoy an aperitif. Now, for cooks: the fabulous kitchen makes it hard to decide where to hang out. It is not easy to understand from the photos, but there is a skylight that floods the table below, and a unique corner window looks out at the spiral staircase up to the deck above. This is a great room with lots of character. The cupboards are filled with an assortment of dishes, and we had no problem finding all the pans for our preparations. The stove is excellent, with 6 gas burners, and a cute marble sink. There’s a dishwasher, and a fridge more like a cupboard under the counter. But, it was perfect. The grocery store we preferred - of the four we visited - was the Albert Hein on the Elandsgracht. The store had everything we needed, and is located near some great little shops for cheese, wine and bread. Also, an organic butcher has lovely products. It’s an easy walk from the apartment, up the Prinsengracht. Our weather for a week in Amsterdam was less than favorable, however, having the lovely apartment to return to was such a plus. Good heat and never a problem with hot water. Everything worked perfectly. We probably spent about half our time in Amsterdam ‘at home’ as it was so nice. I’d recommend this to any of our friends, and only hope that when we’re ready to return, it will not be impossible to book!

My wife and I stayed in this apartment with our older son for 2 weeks. The apartment is located in one of the best streets in Amsterdam and is easy to get anywhere. Many reviewers have listed all the fantastic features of this apartment and they are all correct, the apartments location, furnishings and general elegance made this a great place to come home to at the end of each day. The view from the lounge room window of the canal and street is the best you will find - it's simply beautiful and a great place to sit and have a wine. Marcelle the owner will assist with anything at anytime and is a great wealth of information on the city. I can also state that you can absolutely be guaranteed of dealing with her she is honest and generous. My family just loved the apartment and we will definitely be returning for an extended stay. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who visits Amsterdam as I am absolutely sure there is not a better find. In summary, my family and I have rented many apartments around the world, this one is our favourite, if this apartment is available rent it, you will absolutely not be disappointed and it will make your stay in this beautiful city a memorable one.

This was my 14th or so trip to Amsterdam so I am familiar with the layout of the city and the best neighborhoods to stay in. So I was thrilled when I found out that Marcelle had availability for the entire month of November! The location: a 5 minute walk to the Leidseplein or if you like; a 2 minute walk to Prinsengracht, one of the 4 main canals in the canal ring. Trams run every 5 minutes from Leidseplein to Centraal Station and take 15 minutes so it's easy to get to the train station to make a day trip. There is a police department right across the canal adding a bit of extra security to the neighborhood. The apartment is a "bel-etage", meaning ground leve,l but slightly elevated from the street, so you walk up 5 steps to get inside and the main living room has a commanding view of the Leidsegracht canal and all its passersby. The apartment is basically 3 rectangular rooms, each slightly smaller than the next, but all are connected; or if you like you can close them off (like at night) and use the hallway to access each of the 3 rooms. The hallway also has a toilet and leads 5 steps down to the kitchen or 10 steps up to the bathtub. The rear room (of the 3 big rooms) has a shower/toilet. I wrote this description because the photos left me curious as to the layout until we arrived in Amsterdam. We spent 30 days with a 7 month and 22 month old. The 22 month old was able to navigate the steps to the kitchen with no problem but we made sure she stayed off the steps leading to the bathtub. The kitchen was great: microwave/convection combo oven, blender, fridge, freezer, 4 top gas burner, oven, plenty of dishes and glasses and a nice skylite to see how the weather is before heading out after morning coffee. The grocery store is a 12 minute walk along the canal (no credit cards!) The main room is where we spent most of our time chilling out on the big couch, watching TV, or the world go by our window. The building was built in the late 1800's so the classic ornamental features inside the apartment made it feel like a cool time warp! The hosts were fantastic, lending us a house phone and cellphone to keep my wife and I in touch with each other when we were apart. The also gave us a great rate on a bike rental. Highly recommended.

Owner response: wow, i am so happy to have a new review again. adam asked me why there were so little in the last few month, it is because they were all people who had stayed before. i wish they could make more then 1 review, but Adam made up for it. and another thing he said "it is much nicer then what i expected". that is what i want, you to be surprised instead of disappointed . By the way to the bathroom it is 5 steps up not 10.

We stayed at this wonderful apartment for 12 nights. Our 20 year old son came with us on this vacation. He was very happy that he had his own room. The apartment is extremely roomy, so if you are traveling with a few people you will not feel cramped together. The location was perfect for all 3 of us. The Leidesplein & the tram was a 2 minute walk. The major museums are within walking distance or you can take the tram. The apartment has a lot of character & details. It's on the 1st floor so you don't have stairs to climb plus you have a view of the canal which made our stay extra special.

Over the years I've rented several apartments in Amsterdam and while they were all very nice, this one stands out and is the one I would always choose to stay in when in the city. The apartment is beautiful and roomy with many architectural details that date back to the house's original construction. The kitchen is set at a lower level in the back. Natural lighting from a skylight and a circular stair that acts as a light shaft makes it a comfortable place to relax with a glass of wine and some bread and cheese. It's my favorite room. As for the location, the apartment is separated from the leidseplein (the entertainment center of the old city) by the Leidsegracht canal so it's quiet at night while being close to the many restaraunts, shops and nightclubs. The Museumplein and Vondelpark are only a short walk away. You'll find the owner, Marcelle, to be accommodating and completely reliable. Not only is she a pleasure to deal with but her sense of humor and natural charm make her a pleasure to visit with. This most recent trip was my third time staying at Marcelle's house and I was struck by how, after a day of travel, walking into the apartment felt like comming home. The only problem is there's always a bit of sadness when it's time to leave.

I stayed at the Leidsegracht apartment owned by Marcelle Beute this fall for ten days, my second visit. Her apartment and hospitality ranged from outstanding to unusually outstanding. First, the outstanding: The first floor apartment is a very gracious, nicely furnished set of stately rooms, renovated with some elegant details (which as an architect, I appreciated). For example, the kitchen has custom sinks and counters and floor to ceiling windows merged glass to glass at the corners, looking into a little outside space from which you can see back to the apartment - lovely. Even more important, the location is ideal for seeing Amsterdam - an easy walk from downtown, the major museums, the Flower Market, the Nine Streets - and is in a lovely neighborhood with nice restaurants (take Marcelle's savvy and frank suggestions to get oriented). There can't be a nicer location or more charming place to stay. Now to the unusually outstanding - namely the hospitality of the owner, Marcelle Beute: I informed Marcelle that I need two more apartments for my adult children to stay with us to celebrate my wife's birthday. Marcelle made two more units available to us, namely her own and that of the building's caretaker - both very charming and a real service to us. In addition, the City was installing a new sewer main in front of the house which could well have been a problem. Marcelle managed the whole process, shielding us from any inconveniences, sometimes requiring that she be available to reset utilities at 6:00 in the morning. In short, not only is the apartment outstanding for its charm and location, but it is unusually outstanding because it comes with Marcelle's warm, gracious, unobtrusive, excellent hospitality.

Owner response: you see not exceptional, just normal and in case of exceptions my own floor cam be rented. and more i think my guests are usual very nice.
