Abbey Cottage is part of a 13thC. Abbey. Canal du Midi - World renowned vineyards - Cathar Chateaux!!!
Abbey Cottage is featured in this years Languedoc Roussillon guide. Abbey Cottage, part of an ancient 13th Century Abbey is filled with history. With it's vaulted ceilings and curving walls, you can't help but be taken back in time. It is situated in a very pretty French village that is in the heart of the Minervois wine region. Within a couple of minutes you can find yourself walking through the vineyards and feeling as though you have the world to yourself. Abbey Cottage is a perfect place to come and unwind, it has been equipped to allow you to relax in comfort whilst enjoying all of the character. It has a terrace with barbeque and garden furniture where you can enjoy a glass of the local wine and taste some of the delicacies of the region. In the village there is a bar, baker, butcher, corner store, tennis courts, a beautiful river for fishing in and paddling in to cool your feet after your days exploring. In Conques sur Orbiel which is a beautiful village just 10mins walk from Villalier there are 2 restaurants, a bar, swimming pool and tennis courts.
The magnificent World Heritage Site of Carcassonne City and the second World Heritage Site of the Canal du Midi are both within 10 minutes from the cottage. The Aude area of France is overflowing with Abbeys and Chateaux which you can visit and sample the locally grown wines whilst learning about the ancient techniques that the growers still use in production. The birthplace of the original sparkling wine is just 30 minutes away and there you can also visit the 'wine caves' and sample the 'methode traditionale' along with the 'champagne methode' of producing those lovely bubbles.
For those wanting other more energetic activities, the Mediterranean coast is only 45 minutes drive. Over the other side of Carcassonne white water rafting is available and there is a good selection of horse riding centers. Just 15 minutes away there is a beautiful lake set in stunning countryside where you can swim, sunbathe, hire a pedallo, play crazy golf or volleyball, fish, or simply enjoy a leisurely walk. In the winter you can be skiing in the Pyrennees within two hours and should you fancy a touch of Spain you can pop over the border for lunch by the sea. We love it!
Carcassonne is truly spectacular at Christmas with a wonderful outdoor ice-skating rink, wooden chalets selling local produce and beautiful handmade specialities for that extra special Christmas gift, magical Christmas lights all around the upper and lower cities plus a fantastic 40m Big Wheel that runs day and night to experience a sky view of the wonderous City and surrounding areas. It's like walking into a winter wonder land!!!
