We loved it! Maggie Valley has always been a family favorite from the time I was a kid. This week, I took my 10 year old daughter for some daddy daughter time. We were lucky enough to find this cabin open and it was great from moment one. Diane was wonderful to work with from the moment I called about some questions through our arrival in Maggie Valley. The Heating system took us a day to get used to working it, but it worked great. The layout was perfect for out needs, cozy, but still able to afford privacy between the bedrooms. It was quiet, very clean, and comfortable. We spent a day in Cherokee, visiting a couple museums and taking a hike. Another day we spent in Maggie and Waynesville. Our first full day we got iced in, but that was ok...we played games and I even was able to sneak in a nap in the Master Retreat downstairs. We both loved the hot tub at night--great fun. My favorite place was the porch where the hammock is. I could have spent the whole time on that deck...so peaceful (yet close to everything). Thanks for sharing your home with us. It was wonderful. (PS, I usually wait til I get my deposit back so I've experienced the whole thing before I write a review, but Diane has been so great to work with that I'm not one bit worried about that) LOVED IT

What a pleasure to work with the owner! The cabin was wonderful and we had an awesome time as a family. We even got to meet the local Racoon one evening on the porch. What a treat! The cabin was clean and everything was as advertised. Can't wait to get back!

We had an amazing time at this cabin! It was very clean, close to everthing, and easily accessible! We cant wait to go back. The owner had everything we would need, even supplied the wood! Close to town too! We would highly recommend this cabin. My children enjoyed exploring the area around the cabin and my husband enjoyed the birding in this area! Happy New year!

Owner response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. And, I am so glad that your entire family enjoyed staying at the Alexander Homestead Log Cabin. I really strive to make my cabin your "home away from home" while you are visiting in the mountains. I look forward to your next visit.

Well Managed. Great location to Soco Road (1/2 mile), Cataloochee Ski Resort (2 Miles), and Cherokee Casino (30 min), Biltmore Estates (in Asheville) and near by Smokey Mountains. Price was reasonable. We simply enjoy relaxing by the fire and doing nothing after a day of skiing, hiking, or biking. Perfect for a family of 3 - 4. NOTE: The dates we stayed - 3rd week of November, Maggie Valley was like a "ghost town". It was Thanksgiving week, real snow had not arrived and many if not all key restaurants and attractions were closed. In Bryson City, we didn't even see a person! It was like a movie set. But in a strange way it was kinda nice. The negatives were small: The downstairs master bedroom has a laundry room door that doesn't close and cold air pours in (use a thick comforter provided). You are responsible for removing you own trash. There are many stairs as there are 3 small floors; not much head room for those over 6ft. in the stair well (watch your head). But these are hardly worth mentioning as the cabin is well suited for a pleasant get away, the owner is very available and attentive and hope to possibly stay again sometime.

Perfect anniversary cabin. We arrived a day after a freak snow storm warning. It was chilly and even a little snow had gathered on the roof and porch rails. Imagine our surprise coming from South Florida. Plenty of split wood provided to build a fire though and I had great times building and keeping a fire. heaters in cabin worked fine too. So many things to do in the surrounding locations. This is a perfect location in Maggie Valley. We hit Biltmore Estate - full day of fun- wine tasting-Stable Cafe-Also close to Cherokee, Waynesville, and Blue ridge Hwy. WE did them all. Joeys pancakes and Garlic Knots great food close by. Hike on down to Joeys even. The cabin is super clean and cozy. Everything you need to have a great time is provided. The Hot tub is beautiful and a perfect way to end a beautiful day. The mountains and surrounding areas are breathtaking. Listen to the stream while out on the porch in a rocker drinking your coffee or hot chocolate. This cabin is a perfect picture sure to bring you lasting memories. I cant wait to visit again.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your review. My guests and their experiences while staying at The Alexander Log Cabin are so very important to me. I do strive to make my cabin your "home away from home" while you are visiting the Great Smoky Mountains.

The view was great as was the cabin, the beds were very comfortable. It was nice having a washer/dryer in the master suite. The weather was so nice we didn't even need the A/C or heat. Everywhere we wanted to visit was close by and Maggie Valley has some good eating places. I would stay again. However, we were not crazy about the trash removal process to Waynesville, 15 miles round trip, a little out of the ordinary in our experiences when there is a cleaning service. Other than that we would recommend Alexander Homestead Cabin.

This is the second time we have rented the Alexander Log Cabin. As expected, it was a wonderful experience that we would recommend to anyone. It is convenient to many attractions and nearby towns, while secluded enough to allow for peaceful and relaxing evenings. It also has easy access. A definite "gem" in the mountains.

My wifew and I had not had a vacation since Katrina, just so much to do. We explored the VRBO site and found this wonderful secluded cabin in the Smoky Mtns. So we contacted the owner, Diane, who is a wonderful person. everything about our stay was GREAT!!!! The cabin was warm and wonderful, everything in it was perfect, loved the hot-tub, hammock, and rocking chairs, The bedroom downstairs was romantic, and the surroundings were like living in a treehouse. Maggie Valley itself is so quaint and the food is very good.Being from near New Orleans, that is important. It is only a short run to Waynesville which has great stores and restaurants as well as Cherokee and the Smoky Mtns National Park. We had a wonderful time and would suggest to anyone looking for a getaway place to contact Diane and enjoy her wonderful cabin in the woods. It deserves an A++++++ Thanks Diane for making our first vacation in 7 years a memorable one.

Our cabin was immaculate upon arrival and it was everything we thought it would be from the description we were given by the owner. We just wanted a quiet, relaxing weekend andd with the hottub we got our wish. Many bussinessxes were still closed for the season, but we still had a good choice of restaurants to eat at. It was a wonderful location for relaxation.

What a great winter retreat! We had a fun-filled weekend at Cataloochee Ski Resort. The temperatures ranged from 20's at night to nearly 65 in the day. The hot tub was a great way to relax after a day at the slopes. We loved cooking in and building a fire each night. The creek below was a crisp and relaxing sound. We visited Asheville one afternoon and the town of Maggie Valley was fun to explore. The “treehouse” provided a great escape and was just what we needed. Thanks, Diane until next time...

What a wonderful time we had at the Alexander House. Diane is great to work with (very important) and the home met all our expectations. Upon arrival, everything was perfectly clean and the home smelled heavenly. Cleanliness is key to me and the Alexander House was top notch in that dept. The location is fabulous - far enough away from things so that you have privacy, but close enough to the main road that it's easy to get out and not have to worry if you get a little snowfall . . . which we did :) I would definitely recommend the Alexander House to anyone. There is a lot to do in the area and this home is centrally located to it all. We can't wait to return!!!

We had a great time skiing even though the weather was warmer than usual. Our motto is “get to the mountain early and leave early so we can enjoy the Alexander Log Cabin. It is so peaceful and scenic. (We are from Florida so the mountains are a great change.) We enjoyed the hot tub and comfort of the cabin. We will be back!!!

Very Cozy Place Takes a little adjusting to multiple heaters to acheive the right temp (First night was 12 degrees) Very Convenient to everything we wanted to do - Skiing, Snow Tubing, Eating out A Dishwasher would be a nice addition as well as a few larger Frying pans and an Ice maker. Would recommend to anyone with fewer than 5 people.

Just wanted to take a minute to thank you for sharing your log cabin in the trees with us! We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay there. We enjoyed the quietness of the cabin and even felt slightly guilty at the cooler temperatures while our friends & coworkers were going through 100+ temps here at home. Sorry we didn't get a chance to sign your guest books, but we were so busy enjoying all there was to do in the area that by the end of the day, all we wanted to do was crawl into bed and get ready for the next day (after a quick dip in the hot tub, of course)! Our kids enjoyed your selection of games, especially the "Guess Who" game - it seemed as if they could have played it for hours! Thanks again for sharing your lovely space.

What a great place to stay-a true vacation- a beautiful cabin in order to relax and conveniently located for day trips. We want to try all the seasons here at some time. It's changed the way we think of vacation and how we want to travel. We've had a mix of weather and for the sunny days with blue skies, we enjoyed rides thru the Blue Ridge parkway, horseback riding, hiking, and visiting nearby towns. After some strenuous days, the hot tub and hammock were very welcoming. For some rainy afternoons we could enjoy cozying up and looking out over the trees. This was a good week to enjoy blooms--dogwood, azalea, forsythis, redbud. Truly a great vacation! guest name: Pat & Alan guest city-state/province: Melbourne Beach, Fl

What a wondderful place! Very quiet perfect to relay and fill up the energy bank. Being city people, we obviously had a fun time trying to make a fire that lasted more than 5 minutes!! That was funny--couldn't do it! Jacuzzi was fun too (managed that one!) Very comfortable house waking up to the sounds of birds & trees everywhere you look. Staars at night! The trip to White Water Falls is worth it. We would definitely come ack here for a longer time. Thank you for letting people use this wonderful place! You have a lovely place here--we enjoyed ourselves especially being able to come back to the Treehouse after a full day and relax in the hot tub. Many thanks, Susan

Oh my gosh! I walked in and I could just feel the warmth and love! I was impressed with how at home I felt as soon as I entered. What a charming fireplace-so cozy. My husband and I are here celebrating our 20th anniversary. We could not have picked a more spectacular place. The hot tub has been perfect and the views are incredible. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub in the morning and at night. We also adventured around and saw beautiful and magnificient waterfalls covered in ice. I truly could see myself living here in this scenic area! We love the outdoors and nature. At night we nestled by the fire and enjoyed our scrumptious dinners. After "hottubing" we would sit out in the wooden rockers which I adored. We rocked and listened to the tranquility around us. Also to the rushing stream below. We grilled and and had some very momentous moments. Our stay here will be one we will cherish for many years to come. The Alexander Log Cabin was a perfect anniversary present. I strongly recommend a stay at the Alexander Homestead Log Cabin. First of all, the owner is very professional, accommodating, and helpful. The cabin is extremely clean and well-maintained. It is also well equipped with just about anything you could need, especially the kitchen. There was even a blender, so I may enjoy my frozen drinks! We enjoyed the fireplace as it adds to the cabin/mountain feel. The hot tub was also a nice added bonus. The location is absolutely stunning! It is located far enough away from the main road in Maggie Valley, so you have that mountain getaway feel, but it is still only a few minutes to the main road. I felt tranquil and at peace at the cabin. Kudos to the owner ! Thanks again for a very pleasant stay!

We will certainly recommend to others and hopefully we will get a return trip as well. Would love to see in springtime! Hi Diane, Thank you for letting us use your beautiful cabin this past week. My wife and I had a wonderful, relaxing time. We have been to California wine country 4 times, and this time we thought we'd try some wineries in NC. And the ones a short distance east of Asheville were very good. The weather was amazing...we didn't need the air conditioner at all the entire time there. We also enjoyed Maggie Valley. With the sound of the flowing creek in the background, I slept better than I have in a long time (and the sleep was very much needed). Thanks again. We hope to have the opportunity to rent your cabin again in the future. Kind regards, Pete & Sarah

Hi Diane, Just wanted to let you know that our stay at the Alexander guest cottage was lovely. We really enjoyed our stay and the cottage was just perfect. We have just gotten home and we are a little tired from the trip, but I will post a glowing review on the listing tomorrow. Thanks again! This was our honeymoon. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here in the "treehouse".The local sites of Asheville, Cherokee, anad Bryson City kept us very busy. If you want to see sights without driving and prefer an all adult time let us recommend the Great Smoky Rail-"adult" car only. Lunch is included and very classy & worth the price. So much to do, but then on the selfish end--a romantic time right here at the Alexander Log Cabin is so perfect for lovers or married couples like us newlyweds. guest name: Mr & Mrs James Weart

What a great place to stay-a true vacation. A beautiful cabin in order to relax & conveniently located for day trips. We want to try all the seasons here at some time. It's changed the way we think of vacation & how we want to travel. We've had a mix of weather and for the sunny days with blue skies we enjoyed rides thru the Blue Ridge, horseback riding, hiking & visiting nearby towns. After some strenuous days the hot tub and hammock were very welcoming. For rainy days we could enjoy cozying up and looking over the trees. This was a good week to enjoy blooms--dogwoods, azaleas, forsythes, redbuds.

"This experience has changed vacationing for us. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the secluded home feel of a charming cabin that we could come home to after a day of exploring;or just enjoy staying at the cabin for a day of relaxing. The hammock and hot tub were greatly appreciated after hiking to see waterfalls or after local horeseback riding. This a great location for day trips to Asheville, Cherokee, Smoky Mtn National Park & Blue Ridge Scenic drives. Nearby Waynesville has a great little historic shopping area and Maggie Valley restaurants to stop at include J Arthurs and Joey's Pancake House. This was absolutley great...charm, nature, convenience, and beauty. This was a spring trip with so much in bloom: forsythia, dogwood, redbud, azaleas, etc; and we want to come back and try each season."

Diane, We are back home in Indiana now. We wanted to thank you for providing such a nice cabin for our week in Maggie Valley. The cabin was clean and well kept. We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace every night except for one. The Wi-Fi is a big plus. It is nice to be able to jump online any time we needed something. I would like to visit the area in the summer time if my schedule ever allows it. Thanks,Mike, Donetta, and Michaela

My husband and I stayed at the Alexander Homestead for the weekend of Valentines 2010. The cabin is so nice and very equipped. Great location and great view. Everything you see, is for real. WE had alot of snow so i would suggest if going in the winter you have 4 wheel drive to get up the driveway in case of ice and also master suite is cool in freezing temps but a beautiful cabin. Would love to rent it again in the summer. Very Clean as well.

Our family stayed in Diane's cabin in late December and we arrived just after the biggest snowfall in years. Our two-wheel drive got stuck on the way up the road and we called the emergency contact listed on the packet and Dale arrived (other helpful locals also offered assistance) and helped us get un-stuck- he also helped others those days that the road was iced over. We realized that our cabin- like thousands of other homes in the area- had lost power, so we stayed in a hotel because 'roughing it' with a 3 year old was not high on our list. When we were able to get to the cabin after the power was restored it was cozy with country charm, all cooking accessories, dishes, sheets, blankets, towels were plentiful and clean. Diane even kindly refunded the two nights we were unable to stay at the cabin. Diane's cabin is close to many family friendly outings; we did a lot of holiday shopping and saw the gingerbread house display at The Grove Park Inn, as well as building snowmen then warming up at the cabin. We would recommend her cabin and are thankful to the friendly, helpful people who live there.

We spent a week at the cabin in early October. The cabin is everything that is advertised and very nice. It has all that you need for a wonderful time. It is very clean and everything is in really nice shape. The cabin is only a couple of minutes from town, but seems a world away. My wife and I couldn't have had a better time. A great value - Thanks Diane! Did you find this review helpful? Yes No

We have enjoyed our visit this week. It was a very convenient location to many things we did (shopping and attending the Folkmoot Parade in Waynesville, riding the train in Bryson City, visiting Cherokee, and visiting the Pisgah National Forest Cradle of Forestry/Sliding Rock/Looking Glass Falls near Brevard). We also enjoyed several dinners on the deck and the rocking chairs and hot tub were a nice finish to our days of shopping and exploring. It has been about 40 years since we have been in the Maggie Valley area and we were very pleased with our visit. By the way, Bogart's in Waynesville and Joey's Pancake House in Maggie Valley were great places to eat! Thanks again for your hospitality.
