Anniversary weekend

Guest: tuda (Gilbert, SC)
Date of Stay: 03/30/12 Review Submitted: 04/10/12

Our cabin was immaculate upon arrival and it was everything we thought it would be from the description we were given by the owner. We just wanted a quiet, relaxing weekend andd with the hottub we got our wish. Many bussinessxes were still closed for the season, but we still had a good choice of restaurants to eat at. It was a wonderful location for relaxation.

A Great Escape

Guest: Leslie & David
Date of Stay: 02/22/12 Review Submitted: 05/22/12

What a great winter retreat! We had a fun-filled weekend at Cataloochee Ski Resort. The temperatures ranged from 20's at night to nearly 65 in the day. The hot tub was a great way to relax after a day at the slopes. We loved cooking in and building a fire each night. The creek below was a crisp and relaxing sound. We visited Asheville one afternoon and the town of Maggie Valley was fun to explore. The “treehouse” provided a great escape and was just what we needed. Thanks, Diane until next time...

Magical Time.

Date of Stay: 02/05/12 Review Submitted: 02/26/12

What a wonderful time we had at the Alexander House. Diane is great to work with (very important) and the home met all our expectations. Upon arrival, everything was perfectly clean and the home smelled heavenly. Cleanliness is key to me and the Alexander House was top notch in that dept. The location is fabulous - far enough away from things so that you have privacy, but close enough to the main road that it's easy to get out and not have to worry if you get a little snowfall . . . which we did :) I would definitely recommend the Alexander House to anyone. There is a lot to do in the area and this home is centrally located to it all. We can't wait to return!!!

Just What We Were Looking For

Date of Stay: 01/26/12 Review Submitted: 05/22/12

Diane, The week here was just what we looking for. During the day, we visited all the local sites, at night we hunkered down for a family meal, the porch and the hot tub. We couldn't have asked for better weather. Went ziplining in Pigeon Falls, Tn. It was a blast. Thanks for the cabin.

We had a great time skiing even though the weather was warmer than usual. Our motto is “get to the mountain early and leave early so we can enjoy the Alexander Log Cabin. It is so peaceful and scenic. (We are from Florida so the mountains are a great change.) We enjoyed the hot tub and comfort of the cabin. We will be back!!!

Cozy and Convenient

Date of Stay: 01/12/12 Review Submitted: 01/22/12

Very Cozy Place Takes a little adjusting to multiple heaters to acheive the right temp (First night was 12 degrees) Very Convenient to everything we wanted to do - Skiing, Snow Tubing, Eating out A Dishwasher would be a nice addition as well as a few larger Frying pans and an Ice maker. Would recommend to anyone with fewer than 5 people.

Log Cabin in the Trees

Guest: Paul, Chris, Amy & Sarah
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 07/25/11

Just wanted to take a minute to thank you for sharing your log cabin in the trees with us! We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay there. We enjoyed the quietness of the cabin and even felt slightly guilty at the cooler temperatures while our friends & coworkers were going through 100+ temps here at home. Sorry we didn't get a chance to sign your guest books, but we were so busy enjoying all there was to do in the area that by the end of the day, all we wanted to do was crawl into bed and get ready for the next day (after a quick dip in the hot tub, of course)! Our kids enjoyed your selection of games, especially the "Guess Who" game - it seemed as if they could have played it for hours! Thanks again for sharing your lovely space.

A true vacation

Date of Stay: 05/23/11 Review Submitted: 06/13/11

What a great place to stay-a true vacation- a beautiful cabin in order to relax and conveniently located for day trips. We want to try all the seasons here at some time. It's changed the way we think of vacation and how we want to travel. We've had a mix of weather and for the sunny days with blue skies, we enjoyed rides thru the Blue Ridge parkway, horseback riding, hiking, and visiting nearby towns. After some strenuous days, the hot tub and hammock were very welcoming. For some rainy afternoons we could enjoy cozying up and looking out over the trees. This was a good week to enjoy blooms--dogwood, azalea, forsythis, redbud. Truly a great vacation! guest name: Pat & Alan guest city-state/province: Melbourne Beach, Fl

We needed some time to get away and this was what we needed. Your cabin is so equipped with everything you need--from being able to coke a lovely meal to the soft fluffy nice smelling towels. We enjoyed the grill and the hot tub. Your place is so charming. May God bless you, Diane, as your treehouse has been a blessing to others. What a wondderful place! Very quiet perfect to relay and fill up the energy bank. Being city people, we obviously had a fun time trying to make a fire that lasted more than 5 minutes!! That was funny--couldn't do it! Jacuzzi was fun too (managed that one!) Very comfortable house waking up to the sounds of birds & trees everywhere you look. Staars at night! The trip to White Water Falls is worth it. We would definitely come ack here for a longer time. Thank you for letting people use this wonderful place! You have a lovely place here--we enjoyed ourselves especially being able to come back to the Treehouse after a full day and relax in the hot tub. Many thanks, Susan

Date of Stay: 12/08/10 Review Submitted: 06/13/11

Oh my gosh! I walked in and I could just feel the warmth and love! I was impressed with how at home I felt as soon as I entered. What a charming fireplace-so cozy. My husband and I are here celebrating our 20th anniversary. We could not have picked a more spectacular place. The hot tub has been perfect and the views are incredible. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub in the morning and at night. We also adventured around and saw beautiful and magnificient waterfalls covered in ice. I truly could see myself living here in this scenic area! We love the outdoors and nature. At night we nestled by the fire and enjoyed our scrumptious dinners. After "hottubing" we would sit out in the wooden rockers which I adored. We rocked and listened to the tranquility around us. Also to the rushing stream below. We grilled and and had some very momentous moments. Our stay here will be one we will cherish for many years to come. The Alexander Log Cabin was a perfect anniversary present. We will visit again! guest name: The Hardys guest city-state/province: Glade Hill, Va

Quaint Mountain Retreat

Date of Stay: 11/11/10 Review Submitted: 11/20/10

I strongly recommend a stay at the Alexander Homestead Log Cabin. First of all, the owner is very professional, accommodating, and helpful. The cabin is extremely clean and well-maintained. It is also well equipped with just about anything you could need, especially the kitchen. There was even a blender, so I may enjoy my frozen drinks! We enjoyed the fireplace as it adds to the cabin/mountain feel. The hot tub was also a nice added bonus. The location is absolutely stunning! It is located far enough away from the main road in Maggie Valley, so you have that mountain getaway feel, but it is still only a few minutes to the main road. I felt tranquil and at peace at the cabin. Kudos to the owner ! Thanks again for a very pleasant stay!

Diane, It's been a glorious 7 days in this wonderful cabin of yours. It has served us well as a base for all our day trips and also for some quiet time, enjoying the treetops and quiet. This area is fabulous and was a perfect place for us to celebrate our 35 years of life together. Your cabin is very cozy and also very clean. We will certainly recommend to others and hopefully we will get a return trip as well. Would love to see in springtime! To all others who come--don't miss Great Smoky Mountain National Park-- it was glorious in its fall cloak...as well as the Biltmore-extraordinary is all I can say. Have lunch at the Stable cafe there. Pisqah Inn Restaurant on the Parkway was also nice. Hi Diane, Thank you for letting us use your beautiful cabin this past week. My wife and I had a wonderful, relaxing time. We have been to California wine country 4 times, and this time we thought we'd try some wineries in NC. And the ones a short distance east of Asheville were very good. The weather was amazing...we didn't need the air conditioner at all the entire time there. We also enjoyed Maggie Valley. With the sound of the flowing creek in the background, I slept better than I have in a long time (and the sleep was very much needed). Thanks again. We hope to have the opportunity to rent your cabin again in the future. Kind regards, Pete & Sarah

This was our honeymoon. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here in the "treehouse".The local sites of Asheville, Cherokee, anad Bryson City kept us very busy. If you want to see sights without driving and prefer an all adult time let us recommend the Great Smoky Rail-"adult" car only. Lunch is included and very classy & worth the price. So much to do, but then on the selfish end--a romantic time right here at the Alexander Log Cabin is so perfect for lovers or married couples like us newlyweds. guest name: Mr & Mrs James Weart

The hammock and hot tub were greatly appreciated after hiking to see waterfalls or after local horeseback riding. This a great location for day trips to Asheville, Cherokee, Smoky Mtn National Park & Blue Ridge Scenic drives. Nearby Waynesville has a great little historic shopping area and Maggie Valley restaurants to stop at include J Arthurs and Joey's Pancake House. This was absolutley great...charm, nature, convenience, and beauty. My husband and I stayed at the Alexander Homestead for the weekend of Valentines 2010. The cabin is so nice and very equipped. Great location and great view. Everything you see, is for real. WE had alot of snow so i would suggest if going in the winter you have 4 wheel drive to get up the driveway in case of ice and also master suite is cool in freezing temps but a beautiful cabin. Would love to rent it again in the summer. Very Clean as well.

Our family stayed in Diane's cabin in late December and we arrived just after the biggest snowfall in years. Our two-wheel drive got stuck on the way up the road and we called the emergency contact listed on the packet and Dale arrived (other helpful locals also offered assistance) and helped us get un-stuck- he also helped others those days that the road was iced over. We realized that our cabin- like thousands of other homes in the area- had lost power, so we stayed in a hotel because 'roughing it' with a 3 year old was not high on our list. When we were able to get to the cabin after the power was restored it was cozy with country charm, all cooking accessories, dishes, sheets, blankets, towels were plentiful and clean. Diane even kindly refunded the two nights we were unable to stay at the cabin. Diane's cabin is close to many family friendly outings; we did a lot of holiday shopping and saw the gingerbread house display at The Grove Park Inn, as well as building snowmen then warming up at the cabin. We would recommend her cabin and are thankful to the friendly, helpful people who live there.

We have enjoyed our visit this week. It was a very convenient location to many things we did (shopping and attending the Folkmoot Parade in Waynesville, riding the train in Bryson City, visiting Cherokee, and visiting the Pisgah National Forest Cradle of Forestry/Sliding Rock/Looking Glass Falls near Brevard). We also enjoyed several dinners on the deck and the rocking chairs and hot tub were a nice finish to our days of shopping and exploring. It has been about 40 years since we have been in the Maggie Valley area and we were very pleased with our visit. By the way, Bogart's in Waynesville and Joey's Pancake House in Maggie Valley were great places to eat! Thanks again for your hospitality.

A nice, clean place to stay. Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and many other attractions. After some recent health issues, we were looking for a quiet, laid back get away. We were not disappointed. Plenty of room to give "privacy space", a nice hot tub, and a relaxing deck to enjoy a morning cup of coffee on.

Dear Diane, We just returned home last eveing from your beautiful log cabin, and I was almost in tears when we left as I did not want to leave. The cabin is so lovely and everything around there is so peaceful and serene. We watched the snow fall for two days and sat by the fire listening to music, reading, enjoying wine, and playing your fabulous assortment of games. When the snow stopped falling we took a walk down to the babbling brook and down the street, it was truly spectacular looking at the snow covered mountains. The next day it was 70 degrees and beautiful and the snow melted away as quickly as it came. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and truly felt like we were in a treehouse looking down on all the beautiful trees and watching the birds. Your cabin is decorated so beautifully and you have made it seem so much like it was really our home. We are looking forward to coming back in the near future. Thank you so much. Donna & Joe Sousa

We stayed at your cabin in Feb. 09 and had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back. We will recommend it to all our friends and family. Thank you for sharing your "tree house" with us.

Owner response:I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay in my "Smoky Mountain Treehouse". Diane Alexander

Hi Diane, I wanted you to know that your home is beautiful. We had such a WONDERFUL Christmas up there. I wasn't sure how it would be because we have always stayed home for the holidays, but your home felt like our own. Everything was perfect! I'm not sure if it was the weather or the comfy bed, but we haven't slept like that in a long time. It was a very relaxing vacation. Thank you again, and I hope we will be able to stay again. I wouldn't stay any place else in Maggie Valley. Sincerely,

Best Christmas in the Best Home in Maggie Valley

The Alexander Home in Maggie Valley is truly a home away from home. This was our first Christmas to ever be away from home. It was something we always wanted to do but was a little nervous about the kids waking up Christmas morning and it not feeling like home. That wasn't the case at all. What you see on the webpage is exactly the way it is. When we entered the house we felt like we had all been there before, but that's just because we looked at the pictures and did the virtual tour before we left. The kids are 18, 12 and 7. The loved it. Everyone had there own space. My 18 year old took the loft and made it his own with an air mattress. My 12 year old daughter and 7 year old son were in heaven with the guest room of their own and their own private bathroom. My husband and I were like two kids with our room. Either late at night or early in the morning we would sneak out to the jacuzzi. Christmas morning was wonderful! The kids coming down the stairs, the fire in the fireplace was just picture perfect. The home is so easy to get to and in the perfect place to get to everything we wanted to do. Maggie Valley has some great specialty shops and it is so close to Waynesville's great little historic downtown shopping district. The restaurants were also very good. The kids loved to the snow tubing just 3 minutes away. We also went to Catalochee Valley. A must see! Perfect! Is the way I would have to describe the Alexander home. We can't wait to go back. We know it will be just as pretty in the summer.

This cabin was not only beautiful but immaculately clean. The nice furnishings and extra touches made it seem like home. It is absolutely one of the most relaxing vacations one could chose. Without doubt, we will be back to this little treasure in the mountains.

Owner response:Thanks Catherine, A clean cabin is very high on my priority list, and my housekeeper does a great job. Thank you for noticing. Diane Alexander

We had a great time staying at your cabin. It was nice to finally find a cabin in Maggie Valley where the owner cared about it so much. The cabin was spotless and Diane (the owner) was responsive to any question we had. We look forward to staying there next time we're in Maggie Valley

Owner response:Thank you, Dave and Melanie. I really strive to pay attention to detail so that when you are staying at the Alexander Log Cabin you will feel as if you are in your mountain home away from home. And I appreciate guests who recognise this fact.

I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your cabin this past weekend. It was absolutely perfect...minutes to everything yet very secluded and private. It only takes about 5 minutes to get to the snow tubing park and about 15 minutes to get to Cataloochee Ski Resort, and that's from the log cabin driveway to their parking lots. We were very impressed and will definitely stay there again as well as refer our friends. Thanks again, Joseph Chapman

This cabin is even better than the pictures. It is well kept and clean. It makes for the perfect mountain getaway if you want to be AWAY from everything, yet CLOSE enough to all the places you need to go. We will definitely be coming back to this JEWEL in the mountains. Very close to the Cataloochee ski lodge and Tube World (snow tubing) and less than one mile from Ghost Town in the Sky.
