Makahuena is a small, quiet, privately owned, condominium resort located on Poipu Point with management and services on site. It is near the Hyatt Regency and Poipu restaurants. Poipu & Shipwreck Beaches are within 10 minute walking distance. The site includes beautiful tropical gardens, ocean views, pool & hot tub, lighted tennis courts, and individual parking for each tenant. It also has a unique sheltered barbecue pavilion equipped for multiple use and is a favorite spot for social gatherings while cooking dinner.
The condo is a spacious (1151 ft2) ground floor end unit with a large tiled lanai (180 ft2). The lanai has a view of the ocean and is surrounded by a partially enclosed garden. The garden provides direct access to the pool and beach amenities along the cliff edge of the property. These include a sidewalk and benches for viewing the beautiful sunsets and/or marine life (whales, dolphins, turtles etc.)
The unit has been upgraded with new tile floors; new showers and fixtures for the bathrooms; new kitchen; new furniture, drapes and decorations. High speed broadband internet is provided as well. It is kept in an immaculate condition as a matter of course.
The bedrooms and attached bathrooms are separate. The Master Bedroom has a queen size bed. The 2nd Bedroom has twin beds which can be converted to king. The furniture is not designed for sleeping or conversion to sleeping. The unit is ideally designed for 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

Beautiful location! We felt very much at home except for the fact that in this home we could sit on the lanai and sip wine while watching the ocean. The condo was nicely appointed with everything one would need. We found the location very quiet and convenient to the barbecue pavilion. We would definitely recommend this vacation condo to anyone!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.

What a fabulous condo - so nice and relaxing! Located in a perfect spot in Poipu - you can easily walk to the beaches and resorts, and a 180 degree view of the ocean. The condo is beautiful - tastefully decorated and comfortable. (The only thing I would ask for is Wifi in the condo). Loved being so close to the barbeques. The people that work there were friendly and helpful, as were the people staying there. Every morning we would go down to watch the turtles & dolpins, and every evening we'd see the beautiful sunsets. When we come back to Kauai, we will definitely try to book this condo. Thanks!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We found our stay in this condo and complex to be very enjoyable. The condo is clean, comfortable and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked and excellent for those actually planning to cook! The condo community its self is small and inviting. The grilling area is convenient and well maintained making grilling an obvious choice for dinner. The close location to Poipu Beach and other enjoyable beaches, let you experience Kauai without hassle.Our active toddler enjoyed the flat, well groomed lawn right out side our door. We plan to stay here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Thank You for letting us share your condo. It is very spacious, clean, modern, & inviting. Has a very relaxing island feel also. It's in a great area for beautiful walks in all directions along the shore or inland to look at all the great flowers & flora. Pool is small but very relaxing & clean. Grilling area was great & social event almost nightly. The bed was very comfortable. Not having air conditioning was no problem, as the breezes came through well. Walk a few steps to edge of cliff/ocean for sunsets(another nightly social event) All in all a great place to stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Often when you travel you will have expectations about the places you visit. We try not to let them get out of control so we are not running the risk of being disappointed. With this condo on Kaua'i it wouldn't really matter how high your expectations are, you will NOT be disappointed (except of course for the few hardened "Nothing pleases me" individuals). We stayed 11 days in June 2011 and every day was more than enjoyable, starting with breakfast, taking it easy, relaxing at the pool, watching the sea turtles in the ocean, exploring, and coming back in the evening to a place that truly felt like home. One of the best times away from home ever in a very cozy place.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This is a lovely condo that is beautifully decorated with quality furnishings. It provided us with all the amenities we needed for a month long stay. The kitchen is fully equiped and both bedrooms are comfortable. It was the perfect place for 2 couples. The complex is located in a beautiful location from where we were able to watch whales and the gorgeous sunets each evening. It is also ideally located for easy walking to the best beaches on Kauai, wonderful hikes just past the Hyatt and some great golfing nearby. There is a partial ocean view from the grassy area just in front of the condo with plenty of room to lounge. This is a well-taken care of and clean condominium and we enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

What a great experience staying at the Makahuna. We have been to our favorite island of Kaui over 15 times and have allways enjoyed the island style living. This was one of the easiest vacations for my family of 5. Great location and the pictures and descriptions are completly accurate. We enjoyed the pool and the grass area was perfect for my 5 year old and 2 year old. Great times taking walks and enjoying the majastic waves as the roll in. I would highly recommend to stay here if you want the true laid back kauai style living. Thanks for sharing your wonderfull home... My family and I stayed in this great condo on during summer vacation. The unit is very nice and emacuately maintained. The location is great,we found the complex to be very quiet and in close proximity to great beaches,resturants,and shopping. This condo has such a nice feel to it. It has such a warm environment, and is decorated so beautifully. I love how spacious it is, and the configuration of the bedrooms for your guest's privacy is very nice, with them being on opposite sides of the condo. I felt so comfortable cooking in the kitchen. It's a great size, and everything I needed was there. Location is a definite plus, also. I was able to walk to appealing locations easily, and felt safe while doing so. The traffic is light. I love all of Kauai, but this condo is placed where the weather is usually the most pleasant with more sunshine than rain. It's just a great place! Enjoy!!Did you find this review helpful? Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: I am a retired Boeing Engineer; My wife is a retired College Professor. We have been coming to Poipu since 1982. Makahuena has been in our sight over most of this time as the most desirable place along Poipu shores. We were finally able to purchase this unit in 2006 and with a total upgrade has become our second home. We rent it selectively to ease the burden of ownership expenses, not as an investment property. We hope all prospective renters will enjoy it as we do and take care of it as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Makahuena:
One of the reasons we chose to buy our unit in Makahuena is that this is a ownership facility (no RCI presence). Consequently we get to know our neighbors and we all have a very intense vested interest in the maintenance and use of our facilities. Further it is located strategically near excellent beaches and the center of activity in Poipu.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Some of the unique benefits of our unit being on the ground floor are direct access to the swimming pool and hot tub; a sheltered garden with a view of the ocean located 300 ft from our lanai; direct access to path that leads to benches on the edge of the ocean on the back of Makahuena; and finally within 15 minute walking distance from either Poipu Beach or Ship wreck beach (behind the Grand Hyatt Regency). Most of all many wonderful friends come here, as we do, to enjoy this wonderful paradise.
