Lassen Volcanic National Park is just 9 miles from Mineral. When Lassen Peak erupted in l914 it was the only active volcano in the United States. There is still considerable volcanic activity with boiling mud pots. Climbing Mt Lassen or Broke Off Mountain affords breathtaking views and there are many miles of back country trails for additional hiking. Lassen is truly a unique National Park experience.
The small village of Mineral sits in a lovely mountain valley at 4950 feet above sea level. This pleasant valley is ringed by mountains covered with evergreens. Ponderosa Pines of well over 100 feet, interspersed with White fir and Incense Cedar which tower over the landscape. The climate is delightful in the summer months with temperatures of 75 to80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Our 3 storied cabin is nestled on a hillside of forest. The second story contains the main living area with living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and an ample deck facing the mountains. It’s great fun to sit outside watching the sun rise over the mountains in the morning and watch the shooting stars at night. The first story contains an entrance hall and one bedroom of twin futons and 1 bath. This bedroom has its own Television, which offers privacy either for children or adults. The third story is one large bedroom with three twin beds and one double bed. The main floor bedrooms have king size beds and there is a double bed futon couch in the living room. Our kitchen has lots of counter space and is equipped with a dishwasher and ample cooking utensils and dishes. The utility room, next to the kitchen, is equipped with a washer and dryer, and a back door that leads to the outside barbeque area. Our cabin is wonderful for large or small family groups and Mineral provides the setting for ”THAT GET AWAY FROM IT ALL” relaxing vacation.
The Mineral Lodge in Mineral provides a grocery store for milk, bread, liquor and any other items you may have forgotten. Their restaurant serves excellent meals for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with a full bar for wine or cocktails. In addition there is a small resort in Mill Creek , 6 miles from Mineral, which serves very good food and real Milkshakes. The town of Chester is 30 miles distant with a large grocery stores and a bank.
We grew up in Mineral and we love coming back to our delightful cabin in the Pines.
