Good location, but house not worth the money

This was our fifth trip to Fripp Island but our first experience renting a home that is managed by/rented through the Resort. The Resort personnel don't seem to be all that friendly or competent compared to dealing directly with an owner. The home's location and views are wonderful, but the house itself had alot of annoying small problems. The light in one of the bathroom ceilings had burned out, the shower made a high pitched squealing sound and the water temperature switched from hot to cold constantly. The washing machine made a loud banging sound, we had to put in a work order to have the trash picked up etc, etc...This home did not compare favorably to others we have rented on Fripp when it came to details such as comfortable furniture, dishes, beach supplies, etc. We have paid less for more. We love Fripp Island, but would not rent this home again and definitely will not rent through the Resort again!
Owner response:We are sorry that our guests were disappointed in their stay at our home. However, a couple of points: 1. We use the Fripp Resort to support our property because they provide 24/7 responsiveness to those small, annoying maint. items that are inevitable in all homes... light bulbs do burn out in the best t cared for homes. However we have asked our maint. team to be more dilgent in doing their checklist befor and after our guests to avoid these inconveniences, 2. The shower and washing machine are in perfect working order having been recently checked by our independent contractor and ourselves personally...we accept no standard less than what we would expect ourselves. 3. The trash is collected TWICE each week during high season by Waste Management and we provide 3 x 65 gallon containers PLUS recycling containers. If the guest exceded those amounts...well, we are guilty as charged ! 4.Comfortable furniture statement is somewhat laugable...we put $20,000 in top end wicker in the living area in 2009. All bedrooms have hotel quality bedding and chairs.Teak steamer chair on the decks and comfortable Adironack chairs on all balconies.HD TV in each room. 5. The kitchen is fully equipped with an 8 place backup set of china in the utility room, along with full cocompliment of stemware, cups and all cutlery...We live in this home and again equip it comparably to our standards when we are there and it compares to our other 2 homes. 6.Beach gear. Regretably, we can not keep up with the thelf , damage from prior "guests"..4 bikes left in the salt, all the lawn chairs removed and all the umbrellas" got legs". We wish we could stock more but the unfortunate lack of consideration by prior guests has forced us to discontinue stocking beach goodies. Sadly, it only takes a few to ruin it for the vast majority of our many satisfied guests over the past 7 years of happy experiences.
