Best we have found in Duluth!

Guest: Suzanne (Aurora IL)
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/29/11

We have stayed at several VRBO homes in Duluth and this is by far the best! I hesitate to say how much we like it because you'll never stay at another place and there will not be openings for us. Our stays include all adults and we love the quiet and convenience. But...as I look at all the fun things provided for the younger set I would have to say this home would be perfect for all ages. The kayaks and beach fare all look very inviting. Park Point is close to everything in Duluth. The eclectic neighborhood makes it all even more interesting and inviting. If you go, I know you will enjoy this historical cottage as much as we do.

A Night to Remember!

Guest: Judy (Duluth, Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 11/13/10 Review Submitted: 12/07/10

Many thanks to our gracious hosts for providing the perfect setting for four good friends to spend a night together during Duluth's first major snowstorm. The website information and photos do not do justice to the character, warmth and beauty of this haven near Lake Superior where all you have to do is walk through the front door to feel your body relax and tension disappear. We spent hours sipping wine on the window seats near the cozy fireplace, enjoyed a DVD (provided by the Burns) and slept the night away in beautifully decorated bedrooms. We awoke to enjoy coffee and treats while seated around the charming dining room table and it was with much regret that we said goodbye to the "Cottage on the Point." This place is a treasure; we will return!

Unwind in this large quiet beach cottage

Guest: Wendy (minneapolis)
Date of Stay: 08/08/10 Review Submitted: 08/17/10

We loved the cottage and can't wait to go back ! The owners were very friendly and welcoming. This historic home is larger than we expected after looking at the web photos. It has a giant living room and back porch which the kids loved to play on. Because the walls were so solid, we didn't even hear the kids playing in the other room. It was very peaceful to make dinner while the the house buzzed with activity. The cottage was clean and had comfortable beds. The large front porch was a great place to sit and read. We enjoyed the landscaping on the way to the beach and the kayak's. There were beach towels, toys for the kids, movies, and CDs. We especially enjoyed the close proximity of the Cottage to the beach. Very fairly priced.

Summer Vacation

We had a wonderful time in the cottage! It was so comfortable and cozy. We spent a lot of time on the beach and really appreciated the beach toys, towels, and kayaks. We brought our bikes and it was an easy ride to the shops and restaurants. The kids keep asking when we can go back and we are hoping to make it a family tradition. Pat was a great hostess and we highly recommend staying here.

The Cottage on the Point is a perfect place for a family vacation. The Burns’ are very gracious hosts and maintain a lovely cottage. Our three boys had a wonderful vacation swimming in Lake Superior, paddling the provided kayaks, playing in the sand, flying kites, and roasting s’mores and hot dogs on the beach. There is plenty of space in the home. The kitchen is well appointed and having a washing machine and dryer makes vacationing with an infant a much more pleasant experience.Duluth is a great town and serves as a great base to explore other parts of the Northland. We look forward to our next visit.

My wife and I stayed with our 2 1/2 year old for three nights at the cottage. Having a toddler with a lot of food allergies make vacations tough. At the cottage, we have a HUGE and comfortable kitchen to make his meals and then walk to the beach to have fun. Pat is a great host and I would recommend the Beach Cottage to anyone.

Our family stayed at the Burns' cottage during the week my son was married in Duluth. It was an ideal spot for us to gather and prepare for the celebration together. The house graciously accommodated my 88 year old aunt, two teen agers, and me. There was ample space, charm, comfort, and peace to keep all of us happy. Early morning and late night moonlight walks on the beach provided a calm that promoted good moods and cooperation even with all the commotion of the weekend's events. The details of the decor are imaginative, and in keeping with the age of the home. The Burns are the most cordial hosts, warm and welcoming yet respectful of our privacy. I truly did not want to leave. Pat has provided a great service to the Park Point neighborhood in preserving this historic property. We LOVED this house!

My four sisters and a niece stayed at this rental for a week. We enjoyed sitting around the dining room table in the morning having coffee together and sitting in the huge/comfortable living room in the evening talking or watching movies. The cottage was great, it was clean and comfortable we felt so at home. My sister and I walked the beach every morning, although we got lost the first morning it was great. We felt so at home, it was very relaxing. It was nice knowing that the owners were just a few steps away. This is a place that we would return to without giving it a second thought. Thanks Pat for making our vacation so relaxing.

Charming Cottage in Duluth

Guest: TCgirl (Minneapolis, MN)
Date of Stay: 04/03/09 Review Submitted: 04/17/09

Spent an enjoyable girls weekend at this wonderfully comfortable and quaint cottage. Rooms were spacious and beautifully furnished with both period pieces and modern conveniences - everything you need for a relaxing stay. Short walk over the dune to Lake Superior would make this a great spot for families or couples wanting to get away from it all. Although we were not able to take advantage of the outdoor amenities the cottage seemed to have everything you would need for a day on the beach. Our only complaint, with 5 women, was the lack of full size mirrors and one bathroom.

We didn't need a thing! I can see returning for a kayaking adventure with my fellow paddlers, a nice getaway with my husband and a mini vacation with our 2 kids as well maybe even grandparents. We highly recommend this beautiful home away from home. For years when I lived in SE MN, I dreamed of moving to Duluth; and Park Point, in particular, always has held its alure for me. This home was everything I had hoped and more for our stay in Duluth prior to my daughter's wedding...a perfect place to relax with the bride and groom, and entertain family and friends for dinner and outings on the beach. We even were able to walk down to the Blues fest to hear the last band! The cottage is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities of home, but with much added charm! The huge front porch was a big hit for us, and of course being on Park Point with that powerful, gorgeous lake just outside our door was perfect. The owners are wonderfully friendly and obviously care very much that their guests enjoy their stay. The kayaks provided much fun in the surf; even my 82 year old mother was able to enjoy a few moments in the kayak on Lake Superior! What a great place to ease pre-wedding jitters for all. We plan to go back, and this time spend more time in the water, bring our bikes and the sea kayaks, hike the SHT, and really kick back! You won't be disappointed in this vacation property.

Beach cottage but no view of beach

Guest: Minneapolis Mom (Minneapolis)
Date of Stay: 06/23/08 Review Submitted: 07/01/08

The cottage itself is charming - restored with lots of love and character. However, we could have been anywhere. There is no sign of Lake Superior from either side of the cottage - if you're planning a "beach" vacation just know that there is no view of the beach or Lake at all. You can walk to the beach - past the owner's main home and over the dunes but it's a little far with all your "stuff"... especially with small kids. There is a charming front porch however it looks out onto a busy road... which is a little noisy at night too. The owner is very nice and provides kayaks which were fun to use. While the cottage itself was nice I would not stay here again because I would like to be closer to the Lake and actually see it while on vacation.

We had the absolute best time here. This is one of the nicest rental properties we have ever stayed out. Not only is it stocked and furnished with everything you could possible need, but it is furnished with high quality stuff. It was very clean and highly taken care of. You can tell the owners have poured their hearts into it. There were games, books, movies, and a huge sitting deck making our time together so relaxing and fun. The kids loved running up and down the beach in the back and we brought home half the sand in their toys. I would recommend this to anyone - anytime. I can't wait until we go back.

Lake Superior living at its finest! This cottage has it all. Its location, in a residential neighborhood on "the Point" is calm and relaxed, but a very short distance from Canal Park and all that Duluth and Superior have to offer! Great beach access (sand beach), off-street parking, and beautifully maintained property. Decor is wonderfully artistic, yet comfortable and homey (not "touristy" like a hotel or resort); fully equipped kitchen, lovely linens, cable tv, internet access, washer/dryer, beautiful fireplace. All amenities are top quality and owners clearly take great pride in maintaining everything and making sure you enjoy your stay. As long-time Duluth residents, they can give you great tips on sightseeing, restaurants, and shopping. One stay at this lovely cottage and you'll never want to stay anywhere else in the Duluth/Superior area

Thank you for providing such accurate information on your website to help us plan the perfect family retreat. The spacious cabin was charming, comfortable and made us feel "at home" on our vacation. The access to the amazing beach and use of your kayaks were a huge bonus for us. We will be back again in late summer to enjoy a break from our dessert heat.

We have stayed at this delightful cottage multiple times and must reiterate what all of the comments posted have said. This is a wonderful place to stay. Each of the three bedrooms is charming and comfortable, the furnishings are cozy, and all of the amentities make it a perfect get-a-way for families, a girls' weekend, or just some couples who want to enjoy the beauty of the area together. A well-appointed kitchen (including washer and drier), full-size fridge, electric stove/oven, microwave and beautiful dining area with utensils and dishware makes this the perfect spot for preparing quiet, romantic dinners, or inviting friends over for an evening of wine and cheese by the beautiful brick fireplace. The cottage is very conveniently located for exploring all of Duluth and Superior, with off-street parking (a huge plus during the tourist season). The owners live nearby and ensure that the cottage and property are absolutely immaculate! We have recommended this cottage to all of our friends and will stay there any time our schedules (and theirs--they book up quickly, so best to plan ahead rather than be disappointed) allow.

My sisters flew in from the East Coast to Duluth to join me for a long weekend. The cottage is charming! We spent the weekend, relaxing, reading, taking walks on the beach, and enjoying our time together in a beautiful atmosphere. Duluth is a great place to be -- we left with memories that will be in our hearts forever.

This cottage is an amazing place to stay. I felt at home as soon as I walked in. My host was the best! I have never seen a rental cottage with such interesting architecture, and history. It is close to everything i need, and yet far enough away from the crush of tourists. It is a peaceful and quiet haven on the beach. From the morning walks of our own beach access, to the glass of wine on the front porch watching the sunsets, I really hate to leave. If any one is looking for a memorable stay in Duluth, and on the beach, I strongly recommend this cottage. It is amazing!

There were six of us in the group for a one-night's getogether during the weekend of the Duluth Bridal Show. Me, my two daughters (one the bride-to-be, one the maid of honor for the planned August 07 wedding), my sister and her two daughters (my two lovely nieces) from the Twin Cities -- joined for a belated holiday gathering at the Cottage on the Point. This was a perfect setting to celebrate Heather's adventure to the Pacific Northwest (she leaves 01 February), solicting advice about the upcoming wedding, and valuable time spent together. The kitchen was completely stocked with cookware for preparing our meals, we enjoyed a delicious slow dinner in the beautiful dining room (love the built-in buffet), but most of the night was spent in front of the gorgeous fireplace and reading nooks, delighting in a few glasses of wine. We all brought our favorite music, and kept the CD player going all the while, breaking only during our late-night games of Scene It. My sister and I slept like babies in the bedroom with the two twin beds, while sisters Meg and Cait got the large bedroom with the big fluffy bed, Heather and Maureen got the beautiful comfy room. Next morning came too soon, juice and pastries and Bride's magazines, listening to the CD of choice. Before we knew it, checkout time was upon us! The enchanting Cottage on the Point located in Duluth, Minnesota during the middle of winter is as good as it possibly could get. We cannot wait to return!

Everything here is so comfortable and well thought out. I particularly liked the built in reading nooks near the fireplace. After years of renting homes around the midwest I would rank this amoung the best and look forward to a return trip this summer. Thank you for a restful break. The skiing at Spirit Mountain was good.

Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful cottage. It is a very spacious home. Our kids were able to spread out and have their own space. Wonderfully remodeled with a blend of new furnishings and old beautiful antiques. When relaxing on the beach (not far from the back door) you feel away from it all, yet you are only miles from Canal Park and Downtown Duluth… where you can enjoy sightseeing and can have fun shopping.

We just wanted to thank you for a great weekend in your cabin. The place is GREAT and we all had a fun time. The big living room and kitchen were perfect for hanging out and everyone slept well in the comfy beds with big comforters! The house had all the small things which made traveling easier (iron, hairdryer etc). Everyone enjoyed their stay and was sad to go.
