Kevin & Donna: Just wanted to say thanks for such wonderful accommodations during our stay in Bar Harbor(9/02/06-9/9/06). It was all we expected and more. You both thought of everything you would need for a home away from home. From fresh flowers, to the eggs and tomatoes and of course the candy, it was a great place for our vacation. The trail guides, bike path guide and the travel guide to the other side of the island were very handy in our travels. . We had such a great time . When we return to Bar Harbor we don't need to research where we will stay, it will be The Hummingbird Suite. P.S. The wireless is great......Did you find this review helpful? We found Donna & Kevin to be wonderful hosts and the accommodations just right for our 3-day stay in Bar Harbor. We got good suggestions from them about where to eat in lovely Bar Harbor, but it was nice, too, to have a fully-equipped kitchen to make breakfasts and a great lobster dinner. The bed was super comfortable and dining/living area easy to settle into for our stay. Their backyard in Spring was an added bonus, with new plants just beginning to burst forth and a wonderful flock of multi-breed chickens lovingly kept. They seemed so exotic to us (never thought I would -- or could -- think of chickens as adorable yet they were!). We hope to return to Bar Harbor for a longer stay; the whole area is a treasure and Acadia National Park, especially so. One could hike for years and never repeat a trail or experience. The Ocean Trail hike was outstanding as well as the shorter but magical Wonderland Trail. College of the Atlantic is a campus we've long been interested in and it was a lot of fun to tour it and talk with some of the students. We had to move on too soon. Wouldn't hesitate staying again at the Hummingbird Suite when we return. Thank you, Donna & Kevin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We spent an idyllic week at the Hummingbird Suite. The owners have worked hard to create a charming, clean and comfortable environment that is delightful to return to after a day of exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. They are helpful and pleasant - and clearly continue to work hard to make this an excellent place to visit. The suite was everything it claimed to be in the listing - and more!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We don't usually write property reviews, but Hummingbird Suites is worthy of comment. We spent a week there in late May of 2012, the suite had everything we needed, and it was immaculate! We're admittedly fussy, especially about kitchen and bathroom cleanliness, and Hummingbird Suites met our high standards. The location is great, just a mile from the Acadia National Park Visitor Center and one of many carriage road trailheads. It's just a few miles to downtown Bar Harbor and all the action if that's what you want. Full disclosure, the property is on Hwy 3, a busy road, but the amazing gardens and living space at the back of the unit make the traffic a non issue. Add two great hosts, Donna and Kevin, and this place is a real winner!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

A vacation suite with all the amenities of home, except it’s immaculately clean when you arrive, and somebody else will clean it again after you leave. Comes with a fully equipped kitchen, wireless internet access, 2 mountain bikes (with helmets), outdoor grill and lobster pot, even actual live hummingbirds that like to visit the feeder conveniently hung outside the kitchen window. Excellent location, within minutes of Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, lots of restaurants, and the best lobster pound in Maine. Your hosts, Donna and Kevin, are around, but only if you need assistance, advice, or help with making a reservation; otherwise, you enjoy complete, blissful privacy.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My husband and I were very pleased with Hummingbird Suite. Every detail to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable was available. I felt at home as soon as we arrived at the clean and well-maintained suite. The owners provided several local movies about the island and numerous informative pamphlets and enjoyable books. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the atmosphere of the open living area with it's large window. Accessibility to the yard with bird feeders and of course the garden planted with flowers to attract hummingbirds was a bonus. We enjoyed spending time there. I highly recommend staying here. Everything listed regarding the property; location, photos, description is accurate. The owners were friendly, helpful and available if needed. You will certainly enjoy your visit.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My husband and I plus our two young adult sons stayed here in late June. We're bargain-hunter travelers--my husband calls it "indoor camping." Hummingbird Suites is by far the best "deal" we've ever had. It was beautiful, immaculately clean, well-equipped, and roomy enough to feel very comfortable for the four days we stayed here. We loved having fresh eggs from the owner's chickens for breakfast every day. Two bikes (and a bike rack!) were available to use. The only drawback (which was not a problem for us) is that the house is very close to the road that goes into Bar Harbor so you hear some road noise. We all loved staying here and will definitely recommend it to friends and family!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We stayed in the Hummingbird Suite for the Memorial Day weekend. We were very impressed the moment we walked into the suite. It was sparkling clean, bright and nicely decorated. It has everything we need. We particularly enjoyed the hospitality of Donna and Kevin. They were very thoughtful to make the arrangement for our 7 month old baby so he can sleep and eat comfortably. We couldn't thank them enough. I would highly recommend the place when you visit Acadia. It's convenient, comfortable and very well equipped than even a five-star hotel. A best-kept secret in town. My husband and I stayed in the Chickadee Suite for a week and we were just enamored with this place! The proprietors have thought of every single detail to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I felt like I was staying at home and it was warm and inviting. Sharing a glass of wine by their gardens at the end of a busy day was sublime! They have provided every amenity one would desire and are accommodating with all requests. My husband and I are well traveled for sure, but this was the best place we have ever stayed. I'm sure we'll make a habit of returning to the Hummingbird Suites. We would opt for these Suites over any of the over-priced hotel rooms in town any day!Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: Donna and I built Hummingbird Suites ourselves and named it after Donna's favorite bird. Kevin works at a local genetic research facility and Donna is a beautician and runs her own Salon. Kevin is from Florida and Donna from Massachusetts.
Why the Owner Chose Bar Harbor:
We are only 15 minutes from the top of Cadillac Mountain. We are in such a beautiful area and our friends from other States were always wanting to come here to explore the area so we built the Suites, not just for our friends but for others who would appreciate what this area has to offer.
Kevin came here just for the summer from Florida in 1987 to work as head keeper at the local zoo. He loved it so much that he never left. Donna visited here for many years from Massachusetts and decided to move here in 1991. We married in 1992 and we both love it here. We love hummingbirds so much that we decided to name our place after them since we have so many that visit our gardens.
