A perfect time in Amsterdam

Guest: Ellis and Kay (Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/14/11 Review Submitted: 10/10/11

My wife and I were in this lovely apartment for 17 days during September. We have done vacation rentals all over the world, but this one is at the top of the list for location, cleanliness, and comfort. Our goal in Holland was to see lots of art. We walked to the Rijksmuseum 4 times, the Van Gogh museum twice, the Van Loon House, and the Amsterdam Historical Museum. Easy! When we needed to go out of town, such as Delft or Haarlem, we hopped a tram to the Centraal Station. We enjoyed the excitement and Boom Chicago (comedy club) of the Leidesplein, only a 3 minute walk away, although the apartment was quiet. One unexpected pleasure was simply sitting at the large windows overlooking the canal, watching the boats go by. We are recommending this place to our friends. We ate most of our meals in the apartment, saving big money and also having good, home cooked food. There is no oven but that was not a problem.

I have a new love and her name is Amsterdam!

I really don't want to leave a positive review... but that's only because I don't want everyone to know about this little gem situated in the heart of Amsterdam :-) You see... I plan on returning and would be very disappointed to find this place unavailable when I do... so stay away... ok? ;-) Having said that, everything about my first experience to this city was perfect and it all started with this comfy little apartment and Marcelle's hospitality. The apartment has all your basic needs, overlooks a canal, and is a two-minute walk to the Leidseplein district. A few other sites that are within easy walking distance were Rijksmuseum, the VanGough museum, Paradiso, and the Anne Frank house. It really is a perfect starting point to explore the city and is located in an area with all the charm that you would expect. And despite its proximity to a hub of activity, noise was not a problem at all. Be sure to speak with Marcelle about some local places to eat... as well as tips and advice on the area... in fact, just be sure to have a conversation with her, she is a very beautiful person. Marcelle, thank you for being part of this amazing experience and hope to see you again soon! Sending you a big hug and kiss from across the Atlantic :-)

We rented Marcelle's suite for a week and loved it. Wished we could have stayed longer! The location is perfect. Everything is within walking distance. The bed was comfy. What more could you ask?

Just what we wanted!

Upon our arrival in Amsterdam we gave the owner a call and she gave us precise directions to the apartment. We took public transportation from the airport and were greeted by Marcelle who helped us with our computer and the particulars of the apartment. True to the description it is in the heart of the city, overlooking a canal, comfortable and clean. The neighborhood was perfect with everything we wanted to be within walking distance. When a problem arose with the hot water Marcelle quickly addressed the situation which was most appreciated by the two of us. The washer/dryer was an added bonus after being on the road for some time. It was a most pleasant stay and should we wend our way to Amsterdam again, this is the place where we'll stay.

Owner response:next review will be the earliest in may, up till then all booked by known guests.

I loved it!

Sometimes I book an apartment just on shear instinct. When it comes to Marcelle's studio apartment, my instincts were right on. I have stayed in at least 7 different apartments over the past few years in Amsterdam, and this one was, by far, the best. Descriptions were very accurate, and I thought it was spacious for a studio apartment. The kitchen had what you would need for preparing a meal, but with all the restaurants within walking distance, why bother. Convenient to most attractions by walking, and the trams and buses at Leidseplein are only a block away. The grocery store is a short 10 minute walk. I can't wait for my return trip in April, 2011! Marcelle, my dear lady, I will see you then.

Owner response:what to say? hope for more guests who agree and like the studio just as much.

first i was going back and forth emailing marcelle trying to book his apartment. he is a very nice person to contact and made our reservation easy. we had lost our passports along the way in barcelona and all our plans had gone down the drain and i was scared that trip to amsterdam wasnt possible. so i emailed marcelle and he helped me re-book our apartment cos me and my husband is on our honeymoon and our main goal was to go to amsterdam together. original plan was 1 week but we only managed to stay for 4 days, marcelle is a very helpful guy and helped us a lot a long the way by solving our problems and help us sorted out in amsterdam. when we got there we met ivan as marcelle is gone for a wedding. ivan was a nice young charming guy taking care of the apartment.. showing us around teh apartment and the washing area. i fell inlove with the washer and dryer! it made our cleaning cycle fast! wash fast and dry very fast! i love this apartment and would definitely come back! thank you so much marcelle! it was a very memorable trip for us and you made it happen! god bless your kindness and take care! p/s: i bought a nice scented candle for the smokers so the room dont get too smelly :).

Owner response:i am blushing but that is may be because i am a women.marcelle

All I can say is WOW!!!

Date of Stay: 09/21/10 Review Submitted: 09/21/10

You know how when something sounds too good to be true it usually isn't? Well, this was just as good as it sounded and even better. This is the perfect place for a couple to enjoy this beautiful city. Marcelle was wonderful to us and gave us plenty of space but was still available to answer a question or whatever. The apartment was really nice for the price, which is really great for the area. I mean I expected it to be less than grand for the amount of money it was but it is close to everything and a very nice comfortable place to stay. The kitchen is very usable for a studio type place and it was great being able to cook; the internet worked well as did TV and all appliances. The clothes washer was nice to have too; I liked coming home with clean clothes instead of dirty! About the only down thing I can say is boy are those some steep stairs by USA standards but I guess typical for Holland. There is a "coffee shop" (Crush) right around the corner, the Liedsplein entertainment district is a stone's throw, the tram is like 200 yards away, grocery just a few blocks walk, parks and museums are fairly close walking distance. The apartment overlooks the canal that the tour boats take and is a beautiful view. There is a police station less than a block away so the neighborhood couldn't be safer. This was a fab place to really experience the city and Dutch life in general. I really can't imagine going back to Amsterdam and NOT staying there again; it really felt like a second home by the time we left. I have to admit that like some others who posted here, I was really sad to leave. I say : get the IAmsterdam Card, it was a really great deal. Walk around A LOT, there is much to discover nearby. You might wanna hold off on the tram card, there is a lot real close by you won't need it much. If you have stumbled onto this listing, take my word and stay here. You have found a hidden gem that will make you some great memories. Marcelle, if you read this, you WILL be seeing us again and thank you for a great visit to your wonderful city; you are AWESOME! We are actually talking of emigrating to Holland now.

A Lovely Experience

My wife and I stayed for one week in this studio overlooking a canal. The interior is practical and basic, while the views out the window and the overall atmosphere of the neighborhood are sublime. At the same time the owner was extremely welcoming and helpful. What a joy it would be to live here year round!

Hubby and I stayed here the very last week of June 2010. The pictures online of this studio apartment are all very accurate, and we both felt that it was much more spacious than the pictures convey. The bathroom was big, the kitchen has everything you need, the bed was very very comfortable. The location is perfect- you can walk everywhere in Amsterdam from here. We had bought a tram pass and used it exactly 1 time, whoops won't do that again! The view from the apartment is fantastic- you have leafy trees, a quiet one way street, and a very beautiful canal. We enjoyed the place so much that we got to pretending it was our very own, it iss that cozy. Marcelle and Ivan are very helpful yet very much out of your hair, just as other reviews had commented. Marcelle was fantastic to work with from the moment I first contacted her via email to the day we left. Although I've never visited Amsterdam before I have to say you can't beat the price. I just can't say enough good things about this studio! I recommend it to everyone.

Owner response:what can i say more. just try it.

Marcelle was welcoming and helpful! This is such a pretty location. Indeed a home away from home. Close to town, so able to walk everywhere in Amsterdam. The description and photos of this apartment are accurate. Would definitely stay there again. Would definitely recommend this apartment to others. Marcelle pointed us in the direction very close by of a little bar/restaurant called "De Koe". A great neighbourhood gathering place. Busy and great food!! Thanks Marcelle for the use of your apartment.

Owner response:thank you again.
