Barely made flight out of DFW due to jackknifed Fedex truck. Prepared for extensive rental boat orientation Boat Harbour Marina, but was tossed the keys by Emerson and asked "you know where ya goin' mon? Sign here" (they'll rent a boat to anybody). Piloted the 24' Whaler toward White Sound, and spotted what we figured to be your dock with boat in lift. Found keys under seats of awaiting carts, but couldn't raise Wanda on the phone (not yet familiar enough with VHF). Boated to Sea Spray Marina to inquire, where Junior explained "All de phones be down mon, but I got 'er cell. Met Lucy at Sunrise Point to be let in and shown around (what a place)! Bags dropped, masks on, and lobster in hand, within 15 minutes (again, what a place)! Over the next week, boated to Pete's Pub in Little Harbour, snorkeled reef east of Sandy Cay, fished Tilloo Cut, and Matt Lowe's, Headed up to Nippers, and Grabbers (had to do some hammock time before return), and enjoyed the beautiful blue sky and water to their fullest. Awoke to pack for return Tues. morning, and it's stormin' like a "bygawd" (Texas term). Need to make 1:20pm departure to FLL. Listened to cruisers net, ask a few weather related questions of the locals (a lot more familiar with VHF now) and look for a window. Gettin' darker with lightning to south. It's now or never! Crossed to Marsh in a squall wearing our swim suits, with wind now out of NW, change of clothes in trash bags, and grins all around (well actually I may have been the only one grinning). Girls changed in a hedge next to Sea Horse rentals cause the office was closed for the season. Sandra on the radio says "just tie 'er up good, and put keys in the ice chest". Delayed in FLL for a couple of hours, home, showered, and eyes closed 2:30am Wed. morning. Back to work at 7:00am. Now THAT was one "hellova" trip my friend! The place seems to be in great shape, genny kicked in when power went down, boat and dock looked good. Thanks so much for letting us use them. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any references on the place, and if you ever get down this way, your welcome to come check out our little piece of paradise. I'll send a couple of pics after a little sleep. Thanks Again, Pooty "Stay Thirsty My Friends"Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Wow, you have captured the Bahama's experience perfectly and the reason people like you so love our home on the Ocean. Nothing like kicking back and having a great time! Ya'll come back and thanks again! Glen

That was the refrain heard many times during our delightful week at Sunrise Point. Our two nearly adult children, ages 20 and 17 were sad to leave the island at the end of our week. When I booked the vacation, I was not certain that there was enough activity for my family given their ages and lack of connectivity to their friends. (our cell phones did not work and we did not bring a laptop.) I was happy to be wrong. We had a blast. We loved the beaches and swimming and everybody discovered we loved boating and snorkeling at the National Park Reefs. We snorkled at both Fowl Cay and Pelican Cays having rented a boat for three days and then extending it for another day because we had such a great time. Having the dock on the seaside made this a possibility. We also found swimming from the dock to be terrific. We saw the best sea stars there. At night we relaxed on the verada with the cool breezes and listened to the surf right outside the door. It was so private and quiet. We saw neighbors a couple of times but really felt comfortable eating breakfast in our pajama's on the porch watching the sunrise with our coffee because we were the only ones there. We frequented the town and the grocery stores taking advantage of our golf cart. The kitchen was well provided with utensils and cooking needs. We cooked two dinners there and had Mackey's take out (close by) one time. The house is charming and while going outside from the master bedroom to get to the kitchen was not something we normally expect in a vacation home, the weather was terrific and it was great to have privacy from the main living area. The physical set up was fine for our family and part of the charm of staying in this home built so many years ago. Elbow Cay is an amazing little island. Our son lost his drivers licence at Froggies Snorkeling in town (and was not aware of it) and one of the crew members remembered talking to us and remembered that we were staying at a property Wanda Sweeting was caretaker for. He brought the license to her to give to us. No worries on this island. We enjoyed fine dining at Firefly Resort at sunset. We stayed more casual with dinner and Trivia at Capt Jack's (won free drinks!) and Harbor's Edge. Took a snorkeling excursion with Froggies the first day to orient ourselves to the Abaconian Sea and snorkeling. We are hoping to return sometime soon and would definitely stay at Sunrise Point.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Wow and thank you so very much for all the kinds words. You feel the same way we do about Sunrise Point! You just made my day.

My wife and I stayed at Sunrise Point in Dec. 2010. We had a wonderful time. Very peaceful and relatively private. The house and property was clean and well kept. Great beach right out the front door with beautiful views from dawn to dusk. Wanda, the caretaker, was very friendly and helpful. We had such good memories of our first stay that we just booked the place again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much and we are honored to have you back this year! Thanks again!

A beautifully secluded getaway for our family of five, three being teenagers. Right on the beach and a dock for our boat on the sea side a short cart ride away. We used the rental golf cart to get into Hopetown daily. White Sound is only two hundred yards away, enjoyed the local GOOMBAY BASH. We harvested conch from the Abaco Sea and fried fresh fritters. Even did some spearfishing. Saw shark and grouper on a dive trip with Froggie's. A one hour boat drive down to Pete's pub, just missed Johnny Depp. Went over to Man-O-War to visit the Sail Shop and ate lunch at the Dock-N-Dine. The owner and the local management service was exceptional. The AC unit broke down on our first day, but was replaced with a new and larger unit the same day, awesome!! The island's power was intermittent throughout the week, but an on site generator automatically starts and cuts out when power resumed. An excellent cottage in an outstanding location, this is the place to get away from your worries.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Wow, this is really a great review and we so appreciate it!! Please come back soon. Glen

Spent a week here early April, a great lcation, comfortable house, easy access to everything and what a view! Walked the beautiful beach, right out front every morning, spent each day on a different Island or new beach! Just wonderful!! You will NEED to rent a golf cart and our boat was a must! You can rent one as well. Loved all the little places on each close Island and hoping to make it an annual trip! Just GO! Thanks Glen!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

It’s been a few years since we have been there but I dream of going back again soon. I have traveled several places including Hawaii and St. Thomas Virgin Islands, and they just don’t measure up. I was fortunate enough to take my children with me and they still talk about how great of a time and experience it was and look forward to returning also. Between exploring in Hope Town and Marsh Harbor, there is always something to do. The snorkeling was incredible!! And if you choose to do nothing at all, you are still in Heaven to relax, with the location and uniqueness of the home and the beach right in front of you, the sunsets and sunrises ……sometimes Heaven can’t wait!!!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much. We appreciate the business and it makes us so happy when people tell us how much fun they had at our wonderful home! Thanks again and please come back soon.

A great house on a great island in a great country. We had a fantastic time. The owner and caretaker were both a pleasure to work with. This was my third trip to the Abacos and I think this house is in the ideal location. And what a house it is! I won't soon forget sitting on that deck looking out over the ocean.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Captain, so glad you had a great time and we look forward to your return to the Abacos and to spend some time at our wonderful home! Come back soon!

My husband and I rented sunrise point with some dear friends a few years ago. We have been looking forward to another visit ever since! The location is spectacular with a beach front and gorgeous views of sunrise and sunset. The home is clean and well maintained with all the amenities. The owner is especially helpful and promptly responds to your needs and questions. We loved the entire island of Elbow Cay, which had at least 4 good restaurants, when we were there, and several cute shops. The village of Hopetown has an interesting history and a old lighthouse which has inspired some fine art that is available at the shops. There is a magnificent view of the harbor from the top. Greater shopping opportunities are just a ferry boat ride away in Marsh Harbor. Elbow Cay is in a great location for boating to other islands for a day's excursion, which we did about every other day during our visit. Each island offers fun places to eat and drink those delightful tropical alcoholic concoctions, swim, shop and walk on the always surprisingly diverse beaches. All of the beaches in the area, both on Elbow Cay and surrounding islands are uniquely beautiful. The water is that incredible palate of blues that you only get in the Bahamas. The snorkeling opportunities abound, since it is located on one of the largest barrier reefs in the world. The home itself has an open concept and feels roomy and comfortable with a lively and sophisticated beach decor. With the great circular design of the house you can dine inside off the spacious kitchen or outside on either the deck or on downstairs porch, which surround the entire house on 2 levels. A good size grill is available for the fresh seafood you might catch for yourselves or buy on the island. One of our favorite treats was a delicious key lime pie that is baked right there on the island; it was the best we have ever had! Yes, I am definitely dreaming of another week in paradise...Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Wow, what a nice review or our wonderful home. You captured for us the way we felt the day we became owners of this little piece of paradise. Thank you so much and please do come back soon! Reading you comments makes me excited to get back there too!

What a fantastic place to relax and sit out on the deck that sourrounds the home with a coffee watching the sun come up! Loved the layout of the home with privacy for everybody yet areas to gather and party. Loved the beach and also casual fishing off the private dock over on the Abacoian Sea. This is the place to stay if you go to Elbow Cay! We booked a charter and had a world class day of deep water fishing, within a few miles of the island ! I could get used to this . . .Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: So good to hear that you had such a great time. Thanks again for staying at Sunrise Point! We look forward to seeing you again.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: We are a family with 4 boys living the American dream and very thankful for our good fortune to have a home in the Bahamas. We live in Northern VA and traveled to the Bahamas for vacations and fell in love with the Abacos. The picture is of my wife and 3 of our children, as one was in college at the time this picture was taken on the front steps of Sunrise Point.
Why the Owner Chose Hopetown:
Our boys love the beach, the surfing, the snorkeling, the fishing and just about everything else about the Bahamas. And we love the weather in the Bahamas. We vacationed in several homes in the Abacos prior to deciding to purchase in this area of The Bahamas. We wanted to be on this Island, Elbow Cay, because it is very safe area where kids can be on their own and the doors open. Out-islands are more secure than the main land and Elbow Cay / Hopetown is very secure. We love Hope Town! We decided if we purchased a Bahama home it had to be on Elbow Cay which is the 4 mile long island where Hope Town is located. Elbow Cay is unique because the developers have not taken over, yet you have fantastic amenities. We narrowed our search to Elbow Cay because of the out-island experience with unbelievable amenities, including great bars and restaurants. We love the easy access to everything, including fantastic beaches and fishing. After narrowing our search to Hope Town / Elbow Cay we decided we wanted to be on the Ocean. Nice homes in our price range were difficult to find in 2004. Sunrise Point offered a unique round shape on the ocean in our price range. It was important to us that our home be able to survive the hurricanes, which this house does very well do to its shape. We also wanted an existing home with the opportunity for us to add our own touch and take the home to the next level. We wanted a casual beach house not some transplanted FL venue. That is what we saw when when we looked at Sunrise Point. It was a real beach home with a great location and history behind it. The beach in front of Sunrise Point is also wonderful and a surfing area. Sunrise Point is now the perfect home for us because it offers modern amenities but is casual and has a great location on the Island. We have not been disappointed and would do it all over again. We ended up with exactly the home we wanted in the place we wanted.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We've done an extensive remodeling of our 'round house' to bring it up to modern standards but have not destroyed the original charm of this home. It is a home that because of its shape is unique for on the ocean and almost indestructible. We had renters in the home during a hurricane in 2012 and they stayed on the Island in our home and were safe and never lost electric power. The generator ran continuously for 5 days and so did the air conditioner. Most visitors left the Island but our guests did not even consider the option.
The home has upgrades that include modern things like upper and lower full house air conditioning, modern appliances, automatic whole house power generator and we doubled the living space. In 2012 we put a new deck surface downstairs, we bought new furniture for the upper deck and living room and we installed new BBQ and Gas Grills and new air conditioning units for both the upper and lower units. The home has great bones and we've done continuous improvements.
One of the great things about our home is that each bedroom on the lower levels has a door that exits to the lower deck. This allows our guests to come and go without disturbing others.
The hurricane shutter are hinged on our home and stay attached so that they can be closed at anytime. The home has extensive windows letting in lots of light but if you close the shutters to a room you can make this room completely dark. If someone wants to sleep in or take a nap, this feature is perfect!
Sunrise Point has a completely open floor plan upstairs. When the doors are open on a nice day the gentle breeze is wonderful and the sound of the Ocean peaceful.
What we like is that the home maintains a laid back attitude where you can relax and enjoy yourself in a casual setting with the most spectacular views and great weather. Don't worry about a little sand on the floor and leave the door open and let the breeze come in and enjoy the sounds and smells of the ocean!
