The Knickerbocker Lake Retreat consists of a main house, cabin, and clubhouse located on a spectacularly beautiful and private eight acre peninsula of Big Knickerbocker Lake. These can be rented together or separately, making this the perfect choice for anything from a couple’s romantic getaway to a family reunion or wedding. Whichever you choose, this property provides the best of both worlds: the quiet beauty of the Maine wilderness and access to the unique activities that make this area so special.
A private dock, with kayaks available free of charge, is available to all renters for some of the best swimming, fishing, and boating you’ll find in all of Maine.
The Main House (3 bedrooms + loft, 2 full baths)
The Cabin (1 bedroom, 1 full bath) The beautiful, rustic cabin sits on the very tip of the peninsula and is the perfect choice for those seeking seclusion and privacy. Surrounded by old oak trees and water on three sides, this classic Maine hideaway was built by local craftsmen using reclaimed wood from a nearby antique barn. The cabin features a full kitchen and bath, as well as a screened-in porch, ideal for relaxing and listening to the serene sounds of nature all around you. The wrap around glass windows allow for completely open views of the pristine lake that surrounds the property.
The Clubhouse (3 bedrooms, 2 full baths) The clubhouse is the latest addition to the property and is ideal for those in need of additional space. Three large and sunlight-filled bedrooms provide sleeping space for up to ten people and full baths are located on both floors. The ping-pong table and large-screen TV make this a popular choice among families with young children.

The Boothbay Golf Club (recently renovated) and the Sheepscot River (an inlet popular with kayakers) are both within a mile.

Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: Three families from the Baltimore area, long-time friends, own the property and love being there.
Why the Owner Chose Boothbay: After vacationing in the Mid-coast area for several years, one day I (one of the owners), went to a local real estate office to check listings in the area. I specified I was interested in waterfront (thinking ocean), and the agent gave me a list of 20 or so houses to drive by. The very first was this property, surprisingly on a lake, and with 3 uniquely beautiful houses. I instantly fell in love with the place and knew it was something special.
Immediately upon returning to Baltimore I approached two close friends and their families, and by just seeing my pictures they agreed to go in with us. For them, and for us, it has been a truly fabulous opportunity that we only wish we could get to more often!
The Unique Benefits at this House: The main house was designed and built by a well known local builder for himself in the 1990's. It sits on the perfect ledge looking right down on both Big and Little Knickerbocker Lakes. The inside is open, with high ceilings and a great large fireplace all built and accented with beams and wood from an antigue Maine barn.
The cabin (also built by a local Maine craftsman), sits right on the water's edge at the secluded point of our land. Beautiful inside, it has unigue large wrap around windows that allow for completely open views of the lake that surrounds the point.
