  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chapin, Lake Murray particularly because of the location which afforded us with spectacular views, privacy, peace and quiet as well as proximity to the lakes!! The layout of the rooms was perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed and the bathroom was just wonderful!!! Beautiful views! Our family loved it, the place was really well cared for it was not rundown or dirty at all. The grounds are well taken care of , safe area, wonderful rental! Thank you.

  I had a previous rental cancel and need the house on short notice to host our wedding. I was very pleased with this property.The photos look online look very plain , so we were glad to see it was beautifully decorated.The house was neat clean when we arrived. The kitchen was well equipped to accommodate all our needs for cooking for a large group.The downstairs is very spacious and comfortable.The bedrooms were large enough for all our family from out of town and a few unexpected guests . There was enough extra bedding and an air mattress. The house stayed at a comfortable temp even with all the in and out. The two air units on the walls upstairs work surprisingly well.The master bath was cute,and had enough room for a bunch of the girls to get ready together.There was plenty of parking available . The property was neat , but could use a bit of decorative landscaping . We enjoyed the back porch with the hot tub . I loved the large picnic table on the deck . We all enjoyed the sandy beach . For all the water play I was glad there were plenty of towels. I did have to call the owners a couple of times with some questions they returned my calls promptly ,and were very helpful . I would recommend this house for any family gathering. I plan to go back with my girlfriends for a girls weekend soon.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

• Very disappointing - Renters beware

  We arrived & the outside of the house did not look well kept & the grass was very tall. Upon entering the house, the temp was 85 degrees. We arrived at 5:30 pm and turned the AC on & gave it an hour before contacting the owners. They gave us directions to turn on 2 wall units. We waited 2 more hours & the temp did not budge. We called again, but they would not answer their phone. After multiple calls, we resulted to texting. They finally responded & said it was "unreasonable" to expect after hours AC repair. We live in SC & know most all AC repair companies provide after hours service. After WE provided them the contact info to an AC repair company, they finally called & after midnight the repair man arrived. He determined it was an electrical issue & the owner finally sent an electrician at 4 pm the next day. As a result of the heat, we could not use the entire house so we did not realize how poorly the house was kept. On the 2nd day we began to realize the entire house was in extreme need of TLC. One of the beds was broken & was being supported by rocks, the toilet handle was broken, multiple door knobs were broken,fire place was dirty, support leg on bar was broken, cabinets by sink were loose, screen was ripped on back porch, the microwave wouldn't work due to electrical issues, upstairs shower head did not work properly, pillow had blood on it, trash can outside was overflowing with trash all over the ground, etc, etc. The electrician was also his handy man. He "bandaid" fixed the electric & did not finish fixing what he could until 9 pm the 2nd day. Handy man broke down broken bed & my husband had to help him move it to the garage. The bed was then placed on the floor for one of the couples to sleep on. We have stayed in many VRBO homes and have never dealt with anything like this. We were very respectful when speaking to the owners, however, we were hung up on multiple times during the first 2 days and then our return calls were ignored. They kept stating they were going above and beyond, however, we felt they barely acknowledged the issues & showed absolutely no empathy or understanding of everything we were dealing with. We left the home much better than when we arrived but they still delayed refund of deposit. All we wanted was a relaxing lake vacation and it was very far from this. The location is great & the cove was perfect for children. However, the home and it's owners were extremely disappointing.

  Owner response: Unfortunately these renters only wanted a discount and were not happy when is was not given to them. What they failed to say was the night before their arrival, a tree fell on the house causing the electrical problem with the ac unit. WE sent an ac man out at 11PM only to be told what was really wrong. It's unfortunate that people are allowed to place these reviews without proof...they called mine and my husbands cell phone every 2 minutes....even while we were trying to find an emergency ac repair service. This is a home not a hotel, we are unable to predict when anything will go wrong.

  Overall we enjoyed our vacation to Lake Murray. The home was big enough to meet our needs for 3 families. The home is nicely decorated not what we expected for a lake home rental. No surprises with the location. The home is located in the back of a cove. The boat bock is shared with the next door neighbor. The home has a sandy beach for young children but the water is swallow 1 to 2 ft deep in the cove. Renters need to swim out to of the cove or boat to deeper water to swim. The home has a large backyard for outdoor activities. The home has a nice deck with a view of the lake. We had two cookouts and used the grill provided with the home. If you bring a boat you will not be able to tie to the dock. Best to pull on the beach. The home was clean. The only problem we had was with the condition of the home. During our visit we needed to have 3 repairmen come work on the home. The home needs someone to spend a day fixing door knobs, shower heads, toilet seats and just general maintenance. It appeared that the home has not had anyone live in the home for a while and it just needs minor maintenance. The owner was responsive to our request for repairs. We did not expect to have 3 repairmen visit during our stay. Our vacation experience suffered as a result of having to wait for repairmen. I would not pay as much for this home if I go to Lake Murray again. This was a late booking for our family reunion and we took the last remaining large home available to meet our needs for 3 families.

  We decided to take a family vacation this summer to Lake Murray. This home was located easily through this website. The home was spacious with nice size bedrooms to fit a small family gathering comfortably. The dock was stable and managed to hold a pontoon boat without any problems. The outdoor patio was also comfortable and nice to sit and admire the lake view. Having said that, upon arrival we were greeted by spider webs on the front door entrance which I cleaned up. The owner left a nice note stating that the air conditioning unit did not work properly in the summer months and the house would not be able to cool down below 80 degrees during the day. She did place a noisy portable cooling unit in the upstairs walkthrough bedroom that was taped into the window. It did help during the day (in that room) but not the rest of the home and since the window needed to remain open because of the unit, all the bugs would crawl and fly into the house. The house, although nicely decorated had lots of draperies and wall to wall carpeting which may have contributed to the allergic exacerbations in almost all of those who stayed. Nothing a little Benadryl and Pseudafed couldn't make tolerable. She did supply us with a fully equipped kitchen and functioning microwave, toaster, dishwasher,and coffee maker. Just we couldn't use the microwave or coffee maker at the same time since it tripped the breaker box often. All in all, having had the family together was a very enjoyable time. Lake Murray is a lovely vacation spot. We will return to Lake Murray in the future but not to this home and I would not recommend it to anyone unless these problems are corrected.

  Owner response: While I appreciate the inital kind words, I would like to address the air conditioning issue. Anyone who lives in a home knows things can go wrong, columbia is known for being a very HOT location...it's even being used in current columbia marketing:) We have a 2 story great room and the time these guests stayed was very hot and it's correct that traditional air conditioning has approximately an 18 degree effect .... HOWEVER we have installed 2 UNIQUE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS to address this problem. NOW we are not relying on normal a/c but 2 additional units that work exceptionally well. As for the bugs....yes this is a lake with MANY trees....I don't like bugs and spiders either, but with a lake environment you will have them outside and inside if you have windows opened. It is true, appliances are placed in opposite areas of the counters due to the electrical issue....this has been the case since the house was built. This was once our residence and we take pride in our home, for the comfort of our future guests we did find a solution to the AC issue......I can say with confidence....you won't have any air conditioning issues here. We hope you choose our home for your next vacation or special occasion.
