Location: Pembroke, Down East, Maine, USA (Pembroke, on Cobscook Bay)
Accommodations: Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 10)
Secluded, oceanfront cottage on Cobscook Bay with spectacular views on ten wooded acres. Large skipping stone beach, ideal for ocean kayaking. Abundant animal wildlife, huge Bay of Fundy influenced tides (20 plus feet), great stone fireplace, and large kitchen woodstove. Third bedroom is loft with three double beds. Outdoor porch, great for relaxing and viewing nature at its best. (We often see bald eagles and seals). Public boat access ramp within one-quarter mile of the cottage.
We often alternate between relaxing days at the cottage and easy day trips to Eastport, Maine (the easternmost City in the United States), Saint Andrews, Canada (a beautiful coastal town reminiscent of Bar Harbor, Maine 40 years ago, with an excellent Golf Course - St Andrews by the Sea) and Campbello Island, Canada (see link below) - summer home of Franklin Roosevelt, great beaches and bike trails, excellent Golf course - Herring Cove. Deep sea fishing and whale watching tours out of Eastport aboard the red-sailed schooner Sylvina Beal (see link below) are also a favorite pastime.

Subject: re: a week at the Sheehan/Collins cottage Hi - This is a belated note just to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at the cottage. I guess that the temperatures down in our area (the North Shore of Massachusetts) were in the high 90's all week that week, but we were blissfully unaware as we had no radio, newspapers, or other contact with the "outside world", and we were more than adequately cooled by the breezes off of Cobscook Bay. Since our greyhound was recovering from her chemo, we took only short excursions, but we very much enjoyed hiking around the new state park in Eastport, going for a schooner sail, kayaking with a curious seal, doing some fishing, and visiting the crafts booths at the Machias Blueberry Festival. Mostly, we did puzzles, family games, and TONS of reading and eating! We would indeed be interested in renting the cottage again next year, most likely for the same week if it becomes available. Perhaps you could let us know. Thanks again - Amy

Hi Tom We got back last night from a wonderful week in Pembroke. The setting could not have been better, we got lucky and saw a family of bald eagles our first night! The people from Tidal Trails were great, we had a fantastic kayak tour Friday evening and it really ended our week on a high note. Thanks again. Judy Miller

A comment from a guest in 2001 Tom, We had a great week at your cottage. We loved the area and really enjoyed its peacefulness and beauty. We loved the views from the cottage and exploring your beach. We made day trips to Machias Seal Island and Campobello and went sea fishing and kayaking with Tidal Trails. All in all, a very good week. We hope to return to downeast Maine again. Regards, Clare Yerburgh

Comment from visitors in 2000 Tom, We have been meaning to send you a thank you note. The week was wonderful. We saw a few bald eagles and seals off the porch. The dogs went swimming everyday. It was the most relaxing vacation we'd ever spent. And to think that something off the internet was exactly what it was promised to be! We've already passed the word on to my father and some of our friends about the house. Our only regret was that we didn't bring our canoe with us. Maybe another time. You have a wonderful spot up there. Thank you for sharing it with us. Deb and Kurt

1999 comment from a guest Hi. I was just going through some old email, and came across your name. I thought I'd take this moment to thank you for the wonderful experience Steve and I had renting your cottage last August. We loved sitting on the porch, or on the large rocks , waiting for the seals to pop up. I just adored shelling at low tide with our dog running happily over the exposed sea floor, and the swimming was breathtaking (sometimes literally, because of the temperature.) Steve and I took several wonderful scooter trips to points north, including Canada, and were just blown away by the beauty of the area. I don't know if we'll make it to Maine again this year, but I just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to stay at your wonderful, atmospheric house on the sea, and hope that we can do it again sometime. With best wishes, Patricia Caya
