We were surprised at the overall upkeep of the home. The space and location were absolutely wonderful...couldn't be beat! There weren't enough seats to feed all 13 of us at meal times which made eating as a family a challenge. We were contacted by the owner more than five times within the first hour of our arrival on our cell phones and the house phone as we were trying to visit with one another and get ourselves settled and off to the beach. The metal spiral staircase was treacherous for adults and children and was the only way to get from the 1st to 2nd floor indoors. Overall, we loved Fripp Island and, once the 6 person golf cart was repaired, we had a blast cruising the island as a family.

Owner response: Yes, I repeatedly attempted to contact this renter and he would not respond. I left a lot of messages trying to get him to respond. The washing machine broke the day of his arrival and I needed to have Lowe's replace it during the week of his visit. I needed to contact him, and get his approval to make arrangements for it to be delivered and installed. Also, the brakes on the golf cart needed adjustment. I needed to let him know when they were coming. I felt it was a safety issue. He would not return my calls so that I could make arrangements with him for the needed repairs. It was very frustrating for me not to be able to co-ordinate delivery and repairs which were for his benefit. My maid was going to meet the service people. He had to do nothing, but have the courtesy to answer the phone so I could make arrangements. I know of very few houses that seat 13 people at their dining room table. We have dinning for eight in the dining room 6 more people on the porch and the downstairs has a dinning table for four more. We have been renting for 13 years and this is the first bad review we have every had. I always call the day before your departure to see if there are any issue that need to be addressed and to wish them a safe trip home. When I called, he answered the phone with, "I am on vacation and don't want to talk." I was dumbfounded. However, they did take good care of the house and I am sorry that their vacation was interrupted with unexpected repairs.
For the last 3 years we have rented this beach house and plan to again this year. The house is very well maintain and is located near the beach. The owners are easy to contact and have always answered all of our questions in a timely manner. We spend our days on the beach and our evenings riding our bikes or the golf carts around the Island; the scenic veiws are amazing. If you want to get away from the crowds and just enjoy your family/friends I would highly recommend Fripp Island and this beach house for your vacation.

Great Place To Stay on Fripp Island
Great Place To Stay on Fripp Island
My extended family just returned from our annual beach vacation to Fripp Island. This was our first stay at the house listed under VRBO #6379 and we were very happy with our experience. The house was steps away from the beach and the central pool / Beach Club area. The rooms were comfortable and clean, kitchen supplies were plentiful (including use of a gas grill), and the entertainment package offer came in very handy as we enjoyed driving around Fripp via golf cart! I would definitely recommend this listing for families with children, and to extended, multi-generational families. We look forward to returning next year!

The McCarter Family of 12 has stayed in this great house for 3 summers and will return in 2004. The house is very nicely furnished and comfortable. With the beach being so close, this house is definitely a treasure. The owners make every effort to assure that families have a wonderful vacation.

About the owner: We are Dave & Wylene Martin. We live in Charleston, SC. I am a retired HS coach and administrator and my wife is a retired second grade school teacher. We enjoy golf, working out and being at Fripp. We have two children, Tradd who owns "Househunter", a real-estate company in Columbia, and Brooke who is an international flight attendant.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Mid-Island:
Fripp is a special place. Living in Charleston, we could be at Kiawah, Wild Dunes, etc. However, Fripp is worth the extra hour and a half drive. We especially like the people and the laid back life style Fripp provides.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Once we arrive at Fripp, we find it hard to leave the island, even to go shopping. However, we do have to go off the island to Boondocks Restaurant at least once a week. Everything that we ever wanted in our retirement is at Fripp, golf, beach, beautiful surroundings, boating, and great bike and walking trails. It is our paradise.
