Our five nights at Anini Kai were truly Paradise. Situated on a dead-end street on Kauai's north shore far from the usual tourist haunts, Linda's secret hideaway was the perfect spot for a quiet, relaxing respite from our usual pressure-cooker, eastcoast lifestyle. And yet, its proximity to other spectacular natural wonders makes it an ideal base for daily explorations. It's only minutes from the Kilauea Lighthouse and National Wildlife Refuge with thousands of Red-Footed Boobies, Red-Tailed Tropic Birds and Hawaiian Nene Geese nesting and wheeling above thundering ocean waves breaking against vertical, black lava cliffs. A few minutes drive in the other direction to the end of the road brings you to the Kalalau Valley Trailhead with breathtaking views of waterfalls and steep mountain cliffsides looking much like platoons of giants marching to the sea. Linda has thought of everything... Anini Kai is bright, airy, immaculate and comfortable. It comes equipped with every possible quality convenience imaginable, including very comfortable beds, modern LED flashlights in a kitchen drawer, nasal strips and earplugs in a bedroom drawer! Boogie boards, quality snorkels that don't leak water, and nice swimfins hang from mesh bags in the carport. Anini Beach, 2 minutes away on foot, is quiet, secluded and a beachcomber's delight! A small freshwater stream flows into the sea a few steps from the beach right-of-way. Kids could have a ball here, building bridges and dams in the stream. Small tropical fish inhabit the tidal pools on the east side of the beach, and edible opihi limpets can be found clinging to the black lava rocks... a true sign of the distinctly isolated character of Anini Beach, since these are highly prized by locals. We're looking forward to another stay at Anini Kai sometime in the future. Mahalo Linda for making our springtime visit to Kauai a priceless memory! Much Aloha Nui Loa, Ping, Sally and Georgia

Simply a wonderful holiday home! The house and yard are so comfortable and warm we felt like we adopted the house as our 'Hawaii Home'. It has every amenity of your own home with no cluttered or extra work and all the privacy and quietness you could want. The kitchen is very well equipped with all the utensils or appliances you could possibly need. The shower/bathrooms were terrific and the beds comfy and cozy. Lots of room and very clean! The yard had plenty of space, games, toys and wildlife for children young and old. Our children loved the 'nature walks' down the street finding geckos, camelions, toads, snails and flowers. Access to the beach was literally across the street. An amazing beach with swimming conditions perfect for children and folks who want to relax and not worry about large waves, currents or undertows. We were one of only five or six groups on the entire stretch of beach at any one time over a two week period. Talk about private! The local amenities, markets and people were wonderful! Be sure to check out the Kilauea Fish Market - awesome food! We can't wait to get back again. Simply a perfect vaction spot. Mahalo Linda (and Gary) for sharing your piece of paradise!

A memorable, active family holiday in a spacious and intuitively well equipped house. It fitted our family of 5 very comfortably. The property was clean, well maintained and the owner was very responsive and helpful throughout the process. The photos were accurate and we would definitely recommend this property. We used this house as a base to explore the north of Kauai, enjoying the beaches and snorkelling. The Allerton Gardens in the south were extraordinary. There is no beach view, but there is about a 30m walk from the house the narrow Annini Beach, well protected by an outer reef - therefore ideal for swimming with young children.

Typically when you rent, the owner posts the best pictures of the rental and it doesn't ever quite live up to them. Let me tell you . . . this house lives up to the pictures and more. It is absolutely beautiful inside with the numerous windows and island breezes flowing throughout. The back yard was beautifully maintained and the views from every room in the house were spectacular. We stayed at the house for 8 days with 3 young kids (6,7 and 10) and there was plenty of room for them to play out back without us having to worry about them (except for the coconut falling from the tree toward them LOL). The walkway to the beach is very close - we were going to count the steps, but by the time we remembered to start, we were already back at the house. The boogie boards, the chairs, the sand toys, the fins, the cooler and the beach towels, etc. made our stay so much more like home. The kids loved chasing the roosters in the yard, watching the toads hop around at night and seeing the snails and geckos. I would highly recommend this house to everyone travelling to Kauai looking to get away from the overcrowded tourist parts of Kauai (which you can easily drive to and enjoy at any time). Linda is very easy to work with, answers e-mails quickly and her directions to the house helped us easily find our way from the airport at midnight. This house far exceeded my expectations of a rental and I hope that I get to make it back to the island and rent the house again before Linda decides to more there full time.

WOW - what a memorable week! We loved it. The lay-out and decor, location and condition of this house was perect. We appreciated the use of the boards, snorkel gear, beach towels, cooler box, etc., etc. For mom, the washer and dryer were a huge blessing. Like everyone else, the beaches, hikes, snorkeling, the tropical botanical gardens (A MUST) were all spectacular! MANY THANKS!

I must say our stay here was great. The house exceeded my expectations. It was clean and comfortable and so close to the beach. It was equipped with anything and everything we needed for preparing meals at home or taking trips to the beaches. I loved the front porch for drinking my coffee in the mornings. And Linda and her nephew were so easy to work with. I would return anytime and recommend this VRBO to all my friends.

We (4 including our toddler and grandma) stayed in this beautiful house at Anini Beach for one week in February 2011. The house is very well maintained and in very good shape, spacious and very well equipped (large kitchen, multimedia, internet, beach toys for toddlers, body boards, bbq, etc.). The beach is across the small road, less than a minute away and not very populated and pristine, nice reef with lots of turtles to snorkel with. The garden is also very nice with a lot of space for toddlers to play. It was very easy and pleasant to deal with the owner, Linda, who seems to be a lovely person. It does make sense to have a car if you stay at Anini, closest restaurants and shops are in Princeville, Hanalei, or Kilauea (nice fish market). All in all we had a great time, and we can highly recommend this place.

We loved our stay at 100 steps… My husband, myself and our two kids (age 4 and 2) stayed here for 10 days in the beginning of Feb 2011. The house was immaculate. It had everything we could wish for -- sand toys, chairs, beach towels, puzzles, movies, etc. The large backyard was a fun place to play in the evening while we BBQ dinner. The house was directly across the street from the beach access with made for lots of beach time and very little time in the car, our kind of vacation! The kids loved the beach… during our 10 day stay the busiest day on the beach was Saturday where we counted a total of four other families - all other days we mainly had the beach to ourselves!!! The water was very calm and shallow. The kids to played and swam without worrying about being knocked over by waves. There was one drawback to our… the house is on a main road and has both a popular beach access and a tent camp about a mile down from where the house is located. The master bedroom sits in the front of the house. The road noise in the evenings and the middle of the night became a problem for us. There were lots of cars speeding down the road with their headlights flashing into the windows. We eventually moved to the back room with helped the noise a bit but often we were woken in the middle of the night. We love everything about this house but the road noise is hard to dismiss… The road noise aside, we had a fantastic vacation - we'd definitely recommend this property to a friend, just pack your ear plugs!!!
Owner response:Thank you for the thoughtful comments. There is usually not that much road noise! There may have been a party at Anini Beach Park, which is down Anini Road about 1/4 mile, and a lot of locals may have been attending. Hopefully, this doesn't happen that often! Linda

We had a really wonderful week in your lovely house and on amazing Kauai. We appreciated the water toys so much - our 3-yr old used the kick board every day and the sand toys kept our 1-yr old busy. Our friends got married this week at another home down the street, so the location was really perfect. We've already started talking about the next time we come! Mahalo..

Much mahalo for a wonderful stay in your lovely Anini home. We have rested, reflected, explored and thoroughly enjoyed our time here (even with the early-morning rooster calls to rise-up..Now!) :-) Bruce has taken literally hundreds of photographs of this gorgeous garden island and the surrounding ocean; I have combed the beaches for marine treasures cast off from the deep (and added a few to the collection in your kitchen jar). The lighthouse Bistro and Fish Market restaurants in Kilauea were excellent; Java Kai in Hanalei was our morning destination for coffee & conversation. Your home is so comfortable and welcoming, and has everything a visitor could want or need. We'll be back! Aloha and Mahalo

Mahalo for letting our family stay at your home. In Kauai we enjoyed snorkeling, building sand castles, collecting shells, watching sunsets, taking walks, and boogie boarding. We had a wonderful stay in your house. The snorkeling at Tunnels Beach wa samazing. We saw 2 eels, a turtle, and a parrot fish that was at least 2 1/2 feet long. Aloha!

We loved our time at this house. Three couples were celebrating our anniversaries with lots of room and lots of extras provided for our enjoyment in this beautifully maintained home. We have so many great photos taken from the front lanai - we already framed a photo collage of the natural vegetation taken at night. Beautiful sunsets at the beach across the street - it must be 100 baby steps as it seemed so close. We also brought home an array of shells from that beach for display! Every morning someone commented on the wonder of it all. Just minutes from Princeville and Hanalei - good shopping and eating in both places. Also everything we needed for cooking at the house. Although the descriptions and photos matched the house, it seemed like much more than described! Linda was so helpful and easy to rent from, even drawing personal maps to help us locate areas! I contacted her local maintenance supervisor for advice on restaurants - obnoxious of me - but he was so gracious and helpful too! We have booked for a longer visit next summer. We have been going to Maui for years and love it there too but we LOVED the slower pace on Kauai - and the beauty of this north end location.

You will enjoy your stay at this home...so many extras you do not expect! Very roomy for a full house of visitors. The beach is basically right outside your door and not utilized by the public very much we found in our 10 day stay only a few locals....Great place to snorkel and for kids. Close for a quick trip to Princeville for supplies. This was our 4th stay at the house and you will find you will want to come back too!!!! Highly recommend you give this property a try .. it is very clean and well maintained. Ladies great shopping and good food abound in several places lots to see and do you will love coming back to the house (we call it home) and planning your next day's adventures.
Owner response:I appreciate your wonderful review, and you will find a new glass shower door in the master bath on your next visit. I try and keep everything in beautiful condition and always enjoy hearing from my guests.

This was such an incredible home for our 10 day vacation there in Kaua`i. The pictures and info given on the website, don't do it justice. The home was very clean, very accomodating, well maintained. We had everything we needed and even items we didn't realize we might have needed while there. The ad states 100 steps from the beach, but I'd say it's even less than that. Prior to visiting, we did a search of Google Earth Maps, and I have to say it didn't show us where the location really was at all on those maps. It's much closer to the beach than we thought. And although there are no private beaches in Hawaii, we really felt as though it was our own private beach, while we stayed there. We snorkeled and saw everything you could imagine. Sea Turtles, Octopus, Eels, Crab, and all the various beautiful fish of Hawaii. The reef is so far out, I'd say this would be a perfect spot for a beginner or someone who doesn't feel as comfortable as a more advanced swimmer may feel in the water. Just up the street is Princeville and just beyond that is Hanalei. The only setback we faced was our lack of preparation for bugs. We did get bug bites but even that was tolerable when you're in such a beautiful spot like this. The home offered fruit trees (which we sampled from whenever possible), beautiful tropical flowers (which my family were able to put together a beautiful flower arrangement with), the internet was secure and we were able to visit with our other family that couldn't make the trip via our webcam, the kitchen appliances and dining and cooking utensils were everything you needed and then some, the landscaping was very well maintained.... I could go on and on about this house. We've rented homes from the VRBO website before and always been very sufficiently happy. However, this one particular home really exceeded our expectations. So I just can't say enough about it. Thank you Linda for a wonderful family memory, that we will treasure a lifetime! - Kel

Our family of six loved Kaua'i and our stay at Anini Kai was absolutely wonderful. We loved the beautiful North Shore and all that the Anini Kai property had to offer. The home is large, exceptionally clean and full of ammenities. The large yard was a perfect place to unwind and grill dinner while the children played. The peaceful lagoon, just footsteps away, was beautiful. A perfect spot to relax amidst the rainbows. Just minutes from Hanalei Bay and great surfing, snorkeling and boogie boarding beaches. Anini Kai and Kaua'i are awesome!

We have been coming to Anini for 6 years, and your home has been our favorite to date. We have had another perfect Kauai vacation and look forward to our next trip already. It is truly a blessing to have watched our 4 year-old daughter growing up and loving Kauai as much as we do. Mahalo-until next time!

Dear Linda: Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your house (Anini Kai). It was perfect for our family (6 adults and 2 grandchildren under the age of 4). We really enjoyed being able to cook and grill dinners at the house. The Blue Dolphin Fish Market was a great source for fresh fish. I'm sure that none of us lost any weight while vacationing. Anini Beach was perfect for our 3 year-old granddaughter. Her daddy enjoyed doing some flyfishing too. We all had fun snorkeling and seeing the wide variety of fish. Our older son posted several pictures from our trip on his website. I see that you do not want web addresses in the guestbook so I will send you a link in a separate email.

Thank you Linda for a wonderful stay in your Anini Beach home. The house is beautiful, roomy, and closer to the beach than we had imagined. The beach itself is fantastic - we were worried about north shore surf this time of year with our young children but with that fringing reef our beach experience was safe and enjoyable, and the snorkeling was fantastic. Your home was truly paradise found for my family.
