Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1985

I was born on Long Island and have always lived near the water and have always found it peaceful, beautiful, and fun. I have 3 sons, 2 married with kids. I have a master's degree in health advocacy and have done various advocacy projects (not necessarily about health) my entire adult life. It can be stressful, so I really enjoy the peace of looking at the water, waking to the call of seagulls, watching the egrets out front, etc. My current advocacy project is trying to get legal accountability broadly discussed as it relates to every serious issue we face. Doctors often practice defensive medicine for fear of suit & must also pass high malpractice premiums to consumers. Unrealistic pay imbalances (protected by legal contracts) have hurt all society, including fueling our housing crisis. It is too easy to sue in the U.S., power too often wins over fairness, too high awards get passed onto all. Divorce courts impoverish entire families, harm kids, ETC! Schools & society need to teach more re conflict management & challenges of good partnering & parenting- would help kids learn, lower divorce rate, improve health as well as enhance employability, increase enjoyment of life, & improve U.S. leadership!

Why the Owner Chose Narragansett

We use the house some weekends in the off-season and love it every time we go, even in bad weather. It is neat to watch storms from up in the cupola and also watch the birds fly by at that level. You can view boating and fishing in all directions, ETC. It is our retreat. We chose Great Island rather than Block Is. since we get there in 2 hrs (if no traffic), needn't coordinate with ferry, and longer traveling would reduce time there too much, especially as there are always some maintenance things to do, etc.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Since it is on 3/4 acre and only one of two houses on a peninsula, it is always very private and quiet. The island has many peninsulas, so it is fun to walk or bike around, as well as use canoe, etc. into all the coves. Walking or biking (or driving, natch)can include going barely one mile to the Block Island Ferry, small shops, fishing/boating piers (buy fresh seafood, take whale watching or charter fishing boats), restaurants, and beaches.
