Family Fun in February

Guest: corcovado (United States)
Date of Stay: 02/23/12 Review Submitted: 03/15/12

Family of 4 enjoyed 3 nights in this very comfortable, well stocked home. Wish we could have stayed longer. Enjoyed sitting out on the decks looking out on the gorgeous view. Didn't see any whales but it was so relaxing and beautiful. Nice gift basket upon arrival! Loved sitting in the hot tub while enjoying a star filled sky and again the next night in the fog! Hope to go back one day.....

Amazing MLK weekend

Guest: Jave (San Francisco, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/14/12 Review Submitted: 01/24/12

We spent a January weekend and despite the cooler (50s and 60s) temperatures, Big Sur was the most unbelievable place we had ever been. The pictures in the posting and even the ones we took don't do justice how great the rental's appearance, amenities, and views are. The listing description was extremely accurate and we were completely prepared by the owner for everything (including the dirt road leading to the cabin as well the limited grocery options available nearby.) The property was clean and extremely well-maintained. I recommend this property to anyone and will most certainly be bringing my parents there when they visit California this upcoming summer. The cooking amenities at the cabin are extremely good and we cooked our own meals for breakfast and dinner both days. Just remember that there are no full grocery options for at least an hour and a half coming from the north Monterrey/Carmel is the last place to get whatever you need to get especially for grilling and fresh vegetables. Restaurants are not plentiful in the area, but for a good beer we'd recommend the Big Sur taphouse about 30 miles north. Gorda was expensive but the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. San Dollar Beach is unbelievably beautiful and we'd also recommend Jade Beach. Otherwise just pulling over at turnouts and hiking to the ocean is just amazing. An overall great time and look forward to going back! If you want to be around lots of people, human structures, and staff waiting on you, this is not the place to go. But if you want nature's greatest creations, peacefulness, the sound of the ocean putting you to sleep, and to enjoy those things in a house/cabin with a full kitchen, plumbing, and electrical outlets, this should be your number 1 choice.

Splendid Isolation

Guest: Dan & Heather (SF Bay Area)
Date of Stay: 12/28/10 Review Submitted: 02/07/11

We spent 4 nights here over New Years Eve for a relaxing getaway and were not disappointed. The cabin is cozy (not cramped) and semi-rustic, with fantastic 180-degree views of what must be 100 miles of wide-open Pacific coastline and no neighbors in sight. Since we were here at the end of December, we knew we probably wouldn't get to enjoy the gardens and outdoor kitchen much. Some high winds and a touch of rain kept us holed up warm indoors, but eventually we did get out to walk the beaches and hunt for jade. We spent our indoor time reading and relaxing, watching the ocean's changing moods and shifting sunlight, and keeping a constant lookout for migrating whales, of which we saw plenty. We loved waking in the morning to the peaceful roar of the surf in the distance, being able to lie in bed half-dozing, watching the breakers roll in. On New Year's Eve day itself, the weather finally turned perfect: the winds settled down, the sun burned off the fog, and we could relax in the hot tub and enjoy the gorgeous views and tranquility of this lovely place. We'd love to return with warmer weather to take full advantage of the grill patio, gardens, and decks. Note: we were a bit trepidatious coming up the steep twisty dirt road the first time (also every time going back out) -- the warnings about needing 4WD and no low-slung vehicles should not be ignored! Also re-read the property description carefully - it is very accurate - and be aware that the cabin is off-grid so power conservation is a must.

Big Sur Heaven!

Our visit to your cabin was the most relaxing, comfortable vacation we have ever had. The views, sunsets, decks, bunnies and birds, whales and dolphins, were all spectacular! One of my favorite parts was laying in bed listening to the ocean lull me to sleep at night. So nice! I highly recommend this wonderful place to everyone! After a month, I still think about it every day. . . .*sigh*

Our Best California Memory

Guest: Cliff (Virginia Beach, VA)
Date of Stay: 01/11/10 Review Submitted: 04/01/11

We flew to San Francisco in Jan 2010 with two of our best friends from college (left the kids behind with grandparents) & took a week driving down the Pacific Coast on the trip of a lifetime. By far, our best memory of the vacation was the two nights we spent in the Big Sur Coast Cabin. As other reviewers have mentioned, definitely read the very accurate online description before renting...but if the description sounds appealing, YOU MUST STAY AT THIS PLACE! The views are beyond imagination, it feels like you have the entire California coast to yourself, and the amenities of the property will not disappoint. Make sure to stay long enough to do some local hiking (www.hikinginbigsur.com), and be sure to visit Sunset Beach & Salmon Creek as well. My only regrets are that we couldn't have stayed longer, that we live on the opposite side of the United States from the place, and that it took me so long to write a review! We will be back...I promise. This is one of those experiences that lingers in your memory for a long, long time (it's been over a year & I still think about it often).

All in all we LOVED our visit. The kitchen was well stocked. The basket of goodies was a wonderful surprise-loved the wine. The linens were heavenly and the beds were so warm and cozy. We were amazed at the gardens and loved the fresh cut flowers on the table. We really appreciated the shampoo and soaps that were provided, too. The view was spectacular-better than we could have imagined. You must be very proud of this slice of heaven. Please keep sharing it!

We had a lovely family retreat. We loved the rustic simplicity plus the luxury of a hot tub and big screen tv. The view is extrordinary, the coast itself is amazing. The opportunites to hike and surf are endless. My son called it "Utopian", an apt observation.

-What an amazing and magical space! This cabin is such a gem. We have been astonished over and over again with these amazing views. Everything has been incredibly comfortable and perfect. We had no idea that each room would have a new and unique view of this beautiful coast! We saw a pod of whales yesterday as we read on the lower deck in the sun. Cottontail bunnys, squirrels, hawks and all of the delightful singing birds...To say we will be back is obvious..To say we love this place is an understatement! Thank you so very much for your gracious hospitality and all the special surprises that made us come to the realization, we never want to stay at a hotel again!!

I spent a lovely weekend in July '08 at this wonderful remote cabin with a panoramic ocean view. This was one of the best, most relaxing vacations I ever had. There was no sterile chain hotel feel, just a very cozy, homey, charming cabin in the midst of nature. Such opportunities are rare nowadays.

My wife and I spent our 25th wedding anniversary at the cabin. It was a very quiet and romantic time. The beds were comfortable, the hot tub a relaxing touch. My wife insists on a return visit next year and she is not the "roughing it" type! The reading material in the cabin was informative and fun to read especially about the local area and it's history. A trip to Cambria is a must.

We appreciated the binoculars, wildlife books and board games and slept very comfortably-especially after uncomfortable beds at the previous lodge. We all felt that the Big Sur Cabin stay was one of the best parts of our trip.We would certainly be interested in staying again although it is unlikely we will be back in California in the near future.

This cabin is even better than shown in the pictures -- perched high above the Pacific with absolutely surreal views in all westerly directions. Not another house in sight. However, if you don't know this area, be mindful that this is in a remote section of Big Sur, about 1.5 hours south of Monterey, and up a windy dirt road (leave your low riding sports cars at home). If quintessential Big Sur is what you want -- views, nature, quiet -- look no further.

An Idyllic retreat overlooking the Pacific with magnificent views and sunsets. Our visit to Plaskett Ridge was our 3rd stay in Big Sur and we finally felt we truly experienced Big Sur as a native. This charming cabin has all the comfort features but we were happy just laying back enjoying the decks, hot tub. We were happy to return to the cabin after our day trips to enjoy the serenity. On arrival, the caretaker welcomed us with chilled wine and homemade cookies and showed us how to work the generator, etc and gave us some history on how her Dad after retiring built this wonderful retreat. We highly recommend the cabin at Plaskett Ridge. We hope to return with our children and their spouses so they can truly experience Big Sur. We highly recommend the Big Sur Coast Cabin.
