About this property

Cozy, Charming Vermont Chalet close to 5 major ski areas sleeps 4

This is a secluded mountainside retreat. Perfect for a getaway for two and room enough for 4 it is located on eleven private acres that sit just above the White River. It is near Okemo, Sugarbush and Pico, with Killington being only 14 miles away… it’s a skier’s delight! There is cross country skiing and bond fires by the pond. The chalet overlooks the Green Mountains with a running brook near by. Fall views are quite incredible. We are within walking distance to the White River. Hiking is abundant and great places to take dogs OFF the leash.

The Chalet offers a fully equipped custom built kitchen, a gas powered VT Castings stove for heating ( looks like a fire burning)in the living room, 1 full bathroom, flat screen satellite TV in the living room, and 2 sleeping areas: 1 bedroom with a full size bed, and a private sleeping loft with a king size mattress.
Jump on your snow mobiles from the driveway and head out for a ride through the scenic mountain trails or if you’re a cross country ski lover you will enjoy the meadow trails nearby.
As mentioned above as breathtaking this area is in the winter, the spring, summer, and fall will capture a place in your heart. The babbling brook that runs through the property brings beautiful music to the bountiful lush green canopy of this part of the Green Mountains. Swimming, fishing, tubing, and walking along the White River are just a step outside the front door. There is a beautiful pond right outside your front deck that is perfect for outdoor fires and floating!

There are many nearby natural wonders that just have to be seen. Quechee Gorge, Texas Falls, and Moss Glen Falls are among a few of our favorites. The quaint New England towns of Woodstock, Quechee, Randolph, Barnard , and Rochester are a must to visit for shopping, antiquing, and restaurants. Nearby also offers Vermont Cabot Cheese outlet and Ben & Jerry’s.

Whether you are an active person that wants to celebrate the outdoors, a person looking for solitude who just wants to warm up next to a cozy fire, you will find this mountainside gem rejuvenating

Excellent experience/stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Janie was super friendly and easy to reach. She was super welcoming to our dog which made our stay that much better. Everything was clean and the area is beautiful! We’d definitely like to visit again.

A muddy mess, but still a good vacation
Let me start with the positives… the owner was very responsive via email with directions and check in process. The house was really clean on arrival. And sitting in the afternoon sun, out on the back deck with a glass of wine and the sound of the stream below was really relaxing and enjoyable. However, getting there was an adventure as the driveway was a muddy mess. I know the owner’s have no control over the weather and she alerted me to the fact on our way there but I wasn’t sure our big 4wheel drive was going to make it. It was challenging to say the least. Not to mention, there was no place to walk the dog without going thru the mud. The house is tiny and I think would really be a stretch for 4 people. Also the owner’s log cabin is only about 50 yards away so not quite the solitude I had expected. No Verizon cell service and the Wi-Fi didn’t work for the first 2 nights we were there. I never called the owner on that because it didn’t really matter to us. I had a book and the backgammon board with us. It did unexpectedly show up on our last night. Lastly, the house is cute but there is a lot of stuff. Everywhere. Maybe a little less stuff would have helped in figuring out where to put my suitcase and my stuff. With that said, it was still a nice vacation and who doesn’t have a good time in Vermont!?

Why they chose this property

What makes this piece of property unique! That is a very challenging task to complete without writing a book. In 1968, my then husband and I, NYC school teachers, were late in scheduling our Christmas ski vacation. We ended up at Laolke Lodge (turn left once you come across the river) a log ski house owned by Olive Pratt for the Christmas break and thus started our romance with Gaysville, VT. We fell in love with everybody and everything about Gaysville, VT. At the end of the season, Olive let us know that her brother had 11 acres of land on Vulture MT and was interested in selling the property. “Uncle Buddy” Pratt wanted a used VW bus and we traded that bus for 11 acres of land in 1968. During the winter of 1968-69, we met Uncle Chapin Pratt, and began plans for our log home. My husband and I camped on the land during the summer of 1969. We cut the trees, mixed the mortar, and I,personally, dug out the basement with a huge shovel. Our friends and I camped and everyday worked along side Uncle Chap’s workers. In 1970, we moved to Vermont and had our two girls and 2 dogs. Life happens and in 1982 I was forced to leave Vermont and move back to NY. I did not see our home again for 17years. In 1999, my two daughters and I returned to VT to discover that there had been three owners since I had sold my home. It had been abandoned for 2 winters and was going up on the market in 3 months if back taxes were not met. 3 months later we had our home back and because it was virtually destroyed being abandoned for 2 winters I got it back for what I sold it for! My son-in-law restores homes. Our home had been in two magazines. He looked at the pictures and restored our home. What a magical place it is. The two hand hewed beams in the kitchen and living room were done by Uncle Buddy with his axe. The stone work all came from a 150 year old barn that Uncle Chap tore down. The top log in the dining room was leveled by Wayne Pratt, Uncle Chape’s son, who had the use of only one ey

What makes this property unique

The chalet is carefully designed and the kitchen is complete with gourmet equipment. It is very private on 11 acres of land with a nearby pond. The views are lovely, but the forest surrounding the chalet are just as magnificent.
