Welcome to Villa Monte Poni.
Located between the two renowned renaissance cities of Florence and Siena, Monte Poni resides in the heart of the wine region of Chianti Classico. This first class guest villa has the location, views and ambience you are seeking for a memorable visit to Tuscany.
Originally part of the Vitigliano wine estate owned by renaissance navigator Giovanni da Verazzano, Villa Monte Poni has been charmingly restored to its former glory by its American owner who has retained the colonial essence of the past while creatively adding colorful accents and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The two neighboring towns of Greve and Panzano have recently become culinary landmarks on the map of "where to go" in Tuscany by food and wine appassionatos worldwide. Panzano has recently been featured on the food show "No Reservations" hosted by Anthony Bourdain and featured Panzano's own world reknowned butcher Dario Cecchini.
Here along the famous wine road SS222, you may spend time visiting wineries, dining on Tuscan cuisine, horseback riding, hiking, biking, or playing golf at world class golf courses.
Explore the magical "Classico" countryside, then come home to Monte Poni and take in the ambience while enjoying a glass of wine as the sun sets over the Tuscan hills. Monte Poni is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, pastures and woodlands. Relax and experience the pleasures and breathtaking vistas of romantic "Chiantishire," and top it off with a refreshing swim in our superb naturally landscaped swimming pool.
Monte Poni is ideal for travelers who wish to be within an easy drive of major cities, yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the quiet of the countryside. And, it's also conveniently located for day trips to famous Tuscan destinations such as San Gimignano, Lucca, Arezzo, Volterra, and Pisa.
All guest quarters boast fabulous views from every window, a truly wonderful attribute of Monte Poni! Perfect for couples, groups of friends or family reunions, the house is divided into three separate units which surround a charming terracotta and stone courtyard. They can be rented separately or together.
Each unit has its own private entrance and outdoor sitting and dining area, allowing for group fun or for privacy when desired. All have fully equipped, self serving kitchens, plus, we can also arrange for delicious Tuscan specialties to be prepared for you in your kitchen.
Monte Poni has accommodations for groups of 2 to 15 people. Please feel free to discuss your individual requirements with our friendly hosts.
LA TORRE, the largest apartment is on three levels with the main entrance off of the courtyard. On the first floor is a large, live-in, country style, fully equipped kitchen with a fireplace. Monte Poni was all we hoped it would be. Deidre facilitated our stay. Do not miss the opportunity of having Mimo come cook for you. Four of us stayed in the larger apartment. Interesting that the vintage sense of Tuscany is blended with enough modern conveniences to be pleasurable. Thought maybe it would be too quiet. The solitude and comfort of beauty renewed me. All was as promised. The beauty of the villa and surroundings did not disappoint. We went into Greve and Ponzano for dinner several times. Exceeded expectations. We went in September. Glad we did. Can't imagine the crowds and heat in the summer.

Our family (Mom, Dad and 2 small kids age 1 and 4) spent a spectatular 2 1/2 weeks at Monte Poni in August. We were overwhelmed with the beauty of the property and the amazing views of the Tuscan countryside from all sides. Monte Poni is truly what you picture when you think of Tuscany. Situated midway between Florence (1 hour by bus in town or less by car) and Siena (45 minutes by car) and 5 minutes from Greve and Panzano (two really charming little Tuscan towns with great resturants and shops), and directly across the valley from where the Mona Lisa was originally painted (Vignamaggio Castle) the location is ideal. You can really explore a lot of Tuscany from here as a base. Deidre was an incredible host - right across the street - and is a wealth of knowledge about the regions' history, great places to visit, good resturants, etc. We really enjoyed spending time with her and husband Steen and spent several dinners with them. The pictures are good but don't really do it justice -- its better in person. The markets in Greve (Saturday) and Panzano (Sunday) are definite to-dos. Don't miss a trip to visit Stephano at the Academia del Buon Gusto in Panzano -- a great wine & chocolate tasting shop with an ecclectic owner that will provide you with a truly unique experience (Deirdre can point you in the right direction). We went back three times and sent everyone we met there. Several small towns - Rada, Gaiole, Castellini are all within 30 minute drive of the property and worth the trip. This is a great place for both adults and kids. The pool was great for our kids (as well as the adults) and Deirdre has cribs, strollers, toys, monitors, etc for a stress free vacation with the kids. There are shaded parks in both Greve and Panzano - a few minutes drive. There is also a really good shop in town (Greve) for anything that you forgot at home. For adults, there is the beautiful view, good pool, proximity to great resturants, wineries, towns (including Florence and Siena) and a good host. We will definitely be back to Monte Poni again!

Monte Poni is absolutely amazing in every aspect! We spent a wonderful very relaxing few days here just prior to our wedding in Venice! The location is the best and the views breath taking - with very easy access to many day trips to various parts of Tuscany. Deidre is an amazing woman and you will thoroughly enjoy her hospitality, her 'local' Tuscan knowledge - as well as her 'home'! Mimo is a 'must do' for a cooking class and a meal you will remember forever! Make sure you visit Ristoro di Lamole for lunch as well! YUM YUM! We cant wait to return and we will definately stay at Monte Poni again!

Monte Poni! Make it a giant exclamation point because the Villa makes an incredible Tuscan statement. We rented two of the three apartments - La Torre and Alba. Both were wonderfully spacious and comfortable. The furniture and decorations are eclectic and appropriate for this historic home and the stories of its evolution are not to be missed. Make sure you hire "Mimo" the local chef for an evening of in-home dining. He is also the owner/chef at one of the most delicious restaurants in Panzano. You literally can make day trips to just about anywhere in this region and it's as delightful to see each town as it is to come home to Monte Poni and jump in the pool and relax in the courtyard with your friends and family and of course a bottle of Chianti. Don’t miss the open market in Greve on Saturday. It's the best and only open on Saturday's which is typically the arrival and departure date so be sure to plan around that. Deirdre and Steen are incredible hosts and Monte Poni is the kind of place where before you leave, you are already making plans to return. Monte Poni!
