Over the lake and through the woods to the Bear's Den we go! Featured in Shell Knob's Chamber of Commerce Christmas Tour of Homes, the Bear's Den was the one where the guests came in, looked around and then announced this is where they wanted to stay for awhile! Nestled in the woods on Big Bear Lane, the lake and a love of the outdoors is evident everywhere. From the custom, handmade cedar dining table to each specially decorated room, no detail has been overlooked.
Impeccably maintained, the owners, renters of vacation homes themselves, have made the Bear's Den the perfect vacation destination. Filled with movies and CD's from their private collection, games ranging from Chutes & Ladders to Trivial Pursuit and Backgammon, books for any taste, a fully stocked kitchen that includes wine, martini & champagne glasses, this "year round" Ozarks destination will create many happy memories for years to come.
The large living room features two custom futons that will sleep four, while the sunroom has a daybed for one. Queen sized beds are in each of the two bedrooms. The utility room has a washer & dryer as well as an upright freezer to store all those fish you might want to catch! The spacious kitchen includes lots of counter space and cabinets that hold an on-going supply of basic spices, oil, vinegar, some tea and coffee, too. The bathrooms are stocked with ample towels for bathing as well as beach towels for the lake!
Picnicking on lakeside picnic tables is just a short walk away. You can get your feet wet, if so inclined! Boat launching and a well maintained swimming area are only a quick 10 minutes away at Campbell Point State Park & Marina. Boats and boat slips are available to rent there or at King's River Marina. A quick call to either Marina will give you their rates.
Spring flowers awakening from their slumber along with Dogwood and Redbud trees blooming, lazy Summer days drifting slowly by, Autumn's magnificent display of fall color spreading across the Ozarks Mountains like a quilt, Winter's soft, gentle snowfall dressing the woods in white. Why the Owner Chose Shell Knob
Even though Terry grew up with his own rugged one room cabin in the woods at his family's farm, that Jane grew up with a family weekend cabin in the country just outside St. Louis (her grandparents even had one on the Mermac River) and that their two children spent many formative years in their dad's cabin in the woods, it never dawned on anyone to have that kind of a get away as grown-ups. Everyone was leaning towards the whole boat on the water experience instead. Therefore, this piece of property was initially purchased strickly as an financial investment. After the professional renovation and transformation from "house" into "cabin" it became apparent that it wasn't really a sound financial investment after all - the renovation went way over budget. It has, however, been an incredible investment in family, friends, and all the wonderful people that have stayed as quests. While really enjoying having a small, cozy houseboat at Shell Knob, by far the cabin is the choice destination for free time. Free Time. Now that's a novel phrase. Who has any free time anymore? Terry and Jane sure don't and that's why the Bear's Den is being shared- so others can enjoy it instead of it just sitting there, with the bears, in hibernation. Come stay a few nights or a few weeks! It's most definately one of the best investments YOU'LL make!

I had such an amazing time here in the "Bear's Den". If only we didn't have to go home so soon. I had so much fun here. We sat by the fire, roasted marshmellows, told spooky stories and we played board games, too. Thank you SO much!

Just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful stay at the Bear's Den. We are so happy you share your lovely cabin with visitors. We were so comfortable. The personal baskets were great. We each had a place for our things and able to keep the bathrooms neat and tidy. Couldn't "bear" to use the decorative towels, just loved looking at everything. You have thought of everything to make a visitor feel at home. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to come back!
