Why the Owner Chose Agate Bay
We have visited many areas of the Lake Tahoe region. We enjoy the north shore because it is less hectic and less influenced by the south shore casinos. Agate Bay is a very special place with a community pool and tennis courts. It is so quiet, that on a busy 4th of July weekend, in Agate Bay, you would not even know it was so busy several miles away in Kings Beach and Tahoe City. We are located on a quiet street with underground utility wires that sits across the street from nature conservancy land. We offer our home for you to enjoy Lake Tahoe and Agate Bay.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We love spending time with our family and extended family sitting on our deck during the summer. Our lot is 1/3 acre so there is a sense of privacy, peacefulness and quiet. Our wooded surroundings makes for an amazing getaway feeling, while knowing that we can cook a gourmet meal or a quick snack in our new kitchen just back inside our french doors. Our home is big enough to come together in the great room for meals, hanging out, watching a movie, or playing games. Our home also allows room for privacy in the many well-appointed bedrooms and bonus room. All of our furnishing and amenities are new and it does not feel like a rental home but our home away from home. In the winter, our home is easily warmed up with our wood-burning stove or our central heater. There is a lot of room outside to play and sled. The hot tub is four steps from the french doors off the great room,so getting there year round is a luxurious opportunity.
Skiing in the winter. Golf, hiking, and mountain biking in the summer.
One of the best sandy beaches on the lake. Home of the Lake Tahoe Shakespear Festival. Kayak tours available.
Gentle bike path along the Truckee River from Tahoe City to Squaw Valley or along the lake to Homewood. Park here.
Easiest access to the rim trail. Head west or east from here. Park where you see all the cars on highway 267 before you get to the summit on the lake side.
Walk up the hill to the end of Agate Bay and continue on the dirt road that continues past the end of the paved road. It continues on to Carnelian Woods Ave.
There is a dirt road off of Tripoli that has a sign Carnelian Bay Ave. This is a favorite mountain bike trail or hike. It leads all the way to the Fiberboard highway (Mt. Watson Rd.) at the top of the
This is a beautiful alpine meadow. In the winter, it is a great place to cross country ski or snow shoe. The Tahoe Rim Trail also is accessible from here heading west or east from here. You can mounta

We have always enjoyed Lake Tahoe even before we had children. Now we have 4 teenagers and the whole family enjoys visiting for all seasons. In the winter, Squaw, Alpine and Northstar are all within 15 -20 minutes from our home. There is great hiking right out our door or not far away. We love to travel with our dog and that is why we extend that to our guests. Dogs love Lake Tahoe as much as their other family members. We have shown you some of the nearby hiking trails on the map.

Beautiful house, great location and professional service

I rented this home for a ski weekend in North Lake Tahoe and it was perfect. I have rented a number of homes from VRBO over the last several years and this was by far the nicest home and smoothest process out of all of them. Mark and Tere handled everything promptly and professionally, including returning my security deposit within days of my trip. The house was a cool design with plenty of communal space and it was in great condition. Everything we needed was provided for, including a complimentary bottle of wine! The location was also excellent, with close proximity to several ski resorts and local services such as grocery stores. I would highly recommend this home for either a winter or summer getaway to North Lake Tahoe.
Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. We try to make our home a comforting retreat for our family when we visit, so in turn it can be the special vacation home for our guests. We try very hard to provide the best choice for our VRBO renters and am glad you feel that way too. We strive to be the best vacation rental in North Lake Tahoe. In choosing our home seven years ago, we fell in love with the Agate Bay area and its great location to the lake, ski resorts and grocery stores. With its wooded and private neighborhood, it still seems worlds away! We are happy to hear such happy words of recommendation. Thank you.

Hi Tere and Mark, Our family (6 adults and 1 senior) had a wonderful, relaxing stay at your comfortable home. The location is awesome. We enjoyed walking to Patton Beach and around the neighborhood. It's quiet, peaceful, and the forest air is clean and fresh. The house is as nice as shown on the photos. The kitchen is well-equipped (used the bagel guillotine, and there is a waffle iron!) and roomy enough for several people to move around at the same time. Stopped at Ikeda's in Auburn for lunch on the way there as recommended. Great place. Thanks so much!
Owner response:We are so glad you had a great time at our home and the Agate Bay area of North Lake Tahoe. I thought we had a waffle iron, but could not completely remember as we have not used it recently. We have stocked our kitchen with most everything, so glad we had what your family enjoys using for breakfast. We are genuinely grateful to those who give us their feedback, as we want to make our Lake Tahoe home the best there is! Thank you again for your kind words. Hope you can return. We would love to have you stay again. Best regards, Tere and Mark Charney

Tere, thanks so much for sharing your home. It could not have been better. We grilled great steaks, and enjoyed the comfort from the deck. We cooked great breakfasts in the awesome kitchen. Our sleep was great as the beds were so comfortable, I have slept in hotels who could take a note from you on how to make it a great place to sleep. Our family was so impressed, I was TOP Dog, for finding this home. My hubs loved his fly fishing experience and the guys on the lake who helped with a boat and also wave runners says much about a place that could be considered the place to be for the best vacation. Thanks so much we will be back..8/20-8/24/2011
Owner response:Dear Sharon and Clyde, Thank you so much for your kind words. We are very glad that you and your family, friends had a fabulous time at our home. We truly try to make our guests welcome in our home as if we are there to welcome them. When at our mountain home, we cook a lot and share time together so, for our guests, we share all these amenities that are necessary to enjoy the vacation to the fullest. We hope that you return to Lake Tahoe and choose our home again for your stay. We appreciate your feedback. Best regards, Tere and Mark

Thank you Mark, Tere and Family for sharing your wonderful home with us. Your home was not your typical vacation rental that we have been to before, it was very warm and welcoming and you have thought of every detail to make your home feel just like a home away from home to anyone staying there. Although we didn't do much cooking because we only had a short stay, anyone who wanted to could prepare anything in your fully stocked kitchen. The location was fantastic, walking distance to Patton beach and nice and close to Kings beach, Tahoe City etc, we weren't short of things to do. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and perfect for those wanting to take some nice walks. Thanks again for making our first trip to Tahoe a memorable one and the accommodation side of it perfect! We hope next time we are in Tahoe your home is available, it will be our first choice.
Owner response:Dear Debbie, Thanks for your articulate review. We truly appreciate the time it takes to create a review. We are so very glad that your family had a wonderful time at Lake Tahoe. We are always happy to give our guests recommendations for restaurants, beaches and activities. We are glad you had a great time finding these fun discoveries. Our family cherishes the time we spend at our home and we feel that we try to provide a warm and friendly family stay at North Shore Lake Tahoe. We hope you can find the time to return to Lake Tahoe and choose our home for your stay. Thank you, Tere and Mark

We've been vacationing in the Tahoe area for the last 15 years and have never stayed at a place as nice, or as warm and welcoming as the Charneys. Amazing large open room with living, dining, fireplace, and kitchen. Killer hot tub and the game room was great for the kids down below. I think we've found a new favorite spot and will definitely be coming back.

Hi Charneys - What a great house! This is not just your ordinary vacation rental - it really feels like your own home. Everything is brand new and very nice. The beds are super comfortable (esp. the master!) and the rooms are very cozy. We loved the kitchen - it's just beautiful, fully stocked, and great how it opens up to the dining and living area. We loved all the windows and the views. The neighborhood is truly one of the best in Tahoe - great for walking, biking and hiking, and close to everything. We also liked that the house is on a big lot - lots of room to run around, and quiet enough to not hear all your neighbors. If it sounds like we're gushing about the house, we are - we've stayed in many different vacation rentals, and yours is by far the best! We will definitely be back!

I can't say enough about this beautiful home. I loved the great room and kitchen where we spent most of our time when we were home. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you could possibly need. They even had two of my very favorite cookbooks! I loved the long dining room table where we enjoyed many meals and played lots of games. Everything is very well organized and labeled. We never had to worry about losing the keys. I loved the binder they put together with ideas for fun things to do while in Tahoe. The master bedroom and second master downstairs are beautiful and my 19 year old son loved the fire engine bunk beds. We enjoyed a few nights in the hot tub and barbecued several nights. My son has already asked if we can return in the Winter. It would be great to be able to enjoy the beautiful fireplace. The Agate Bay Sun Club is another bonus to this home. The grounds are beautifully maintained and include a pool, jacuzzi, ping pong and volleyball. It even has a snack shack with reasonable prices. We had a wonderful relaxing vacation in this great home in Tahoe. I heartily recommend it to anyone. Thanks again Charney family!

Each room lovingly prepared by all of you. You have thought of every detail and anticipated every need. We can't wait to return!!

Wow! That was the first thing we said walking in. We love this home. It's so beautiful. The decor and amenities are wonderful. We were all so comfortable here and we were so happy we could have our dog Scooby with us. The hot tub is fabulous in the snow. We watched movies, did puzzles, played games and built a snow man! We went snowboarding and sledding. A wonderful weekend. And the wine was a perfect welcome! Thank you so much!
