Orion, by SleepAfloat, is a unique way to spend a weekend or a week in the heart of Boston. This vessel is a 14' x 44’ 1997 catamaran houseboat, moored at Shipyard Quarters Marina, next door to the USS Constitution in the chic and historic Charlestown Navy Yard.
Minutes from any downtown location by foot, water shuttle, or free bus, discover Boston’s waterfront right “in the water”! Orion is just a few minutes walk from Boston's Freedom Trail, the Bunker Hill Monument and Pavilion, the USS Constitution and Museum, and landmark restaurants such as Todd English's Olives and the Warren Tavern, one of Paul Revere's favorite haunts. Minutes away by free bus or $1.75 water shuttle are the New England Aquarium, Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall, Boston’s Italian North End, a large outdoor neighborhood swimming pool, a free tennis court, a public ice skating rink, and countless other things to see and do.
WiFi is included free with the rental. Laundry facilities (as well as additional on-shore bathrooms and showers) are conveniently located right at the marina. Also right in the marina is the Tavern on the Water, a restaurant and bar with a great view of the Boston Skyline, and on-shore grilling and picnic facilities.
This unusual and funky craft comes complete with a private stateroom with a queen-sized bed, a full bath with shower, plenty of closet space, a full-size eat-in kitchen with standard size fridge, stove and oven, microwave, and all the needed utensils and pots and pans. We provide an iron, ironing board, hairdryer, and loads of bathroom products such as soaps, shampoos, and lotions. We even include lots of cooking ingredients such as coffee, condiments, etc...
It is fully air-conditioned and heated. There is an Aero-bed for additional sleeping accommodations as well as the living room sleep sofa. There’s tons of outdoor sunning area: a front and back porch with a gas grill and a large roof sun deck. All linens and towels are provided.
The boat is large enough to comfortably accommodate up to four adults or 2 adults with a few children.
All this for less than the price of a regular hotel room at any of the nearby hotels!
If you are flying into Boston, we can provide you with information to arrange for a private water taxi to pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the houseboat.
If you are arriving by car, you can park in the a nearby garage for $18/day. You then will have the choice of using your own car for excursions away from downtown or availing yourself of the water shuttle or free bus service for local destinations.
What's it like staying on a houseboat? The boat is in a protected part of the marina, but there is some occasional movement during the day when boats pass by. It is usually very calm during the night, although some guests find a bit of gentle swaying is relaxing and can lead to a very restful sleep.
It is truly our goal that every guest has an exceptional and memorable experience, so come 'Float' away your tensions, inhale pure sea air and nautical vibes, 'chill' in an outdoor, downtown setting during the most picturesque time of the year! Ahhhh...

What a great way to "see" Boston. Easy to get to once you figure out how (free MGH/Partners bus in front of the 24 hour convenience store) that goes to North Station. My daughter found this gem and I have to admit I was hesitant. But, would go back in a minute. Did not have two bedrooms but one bedroom and a pull-out in the living area. But that was OK. Have to get use to small bathroom facilities. We stayed 8/22-29/2008 and enjoyed ourselves. It was much better than a hotel room (same in every city) and once we learned to use public transportation we could get anywhere we wanted to. Keeping in mind that it is a old houseboat, they have done everything to make the stay comfortable and fun. Would do it again. 5/5 Guest: HAC143650 (Philadelphia, PA) Date of Stay: June 5, 2008 Review Submitted: June 5, 2008 This must be what an infant feels like. Every now and then someone comes along and rocks your cradle ever so gently just to make you feel safe. Usually, on vacation, you can't wait to get out and get going. On the Float!, you just want to take your coffee outside and enjoy what God gave you...the sun, the sky and the water. Thank God we know Boston well, because we wanted to stay on board as long as we could in the morning doing just that. A minor mishap occurred because of a previous renter, but it did absolutely nothing to hurt our stay. It is spacious enough, clean, comfortable and delightful. I don't sail, so don't let that stop you from experiencing the houseboat. It's so gentle, you hardly notice the sway, and at night, when you're in bed, it's downright comforting. We had a wonderful 44th Anniversary on board and hope to celebrate our 45th there as well. Respond to this review Helpful votes: 0/0
