Enjoy the fabulous Mexican weather year-round from any of the three outdoor, flower & plant-rich terraces. Have coffee or tea on the upper semi-covered patio in a lounge chair bathed in the warmth of the morning sun, or al-fresco cocktails in the evening as the lights appear in the city and hundreds of exotic birds hurry home to nest for the night. This upper terrace is furnished with outdoor lounge chairs and tile and glass occasional tables, with lush potted plants, flowers, ferns and lavander surrounding you.
When entertaining, you may choose to have a Mariachi band or solo guitar serenade you from the second floor terrace while you and your guests mingle in the privacy of the walled ground floor patio, surrounded by bougainvillea, palms and exotic flora. Or, on a quiet evening, be lulled by the bubbling cantera fountain and the vast peacefulness of the starry sky above. The ground floor patio is furnished with two round glass-topped tables with four chairs each and two market umbrellas for shade, when needed.
Inside, all comforts abound in the quiet beauty of the Spanish-Colonial architectural style. From the fully-equipped kitchen, complete with the latest cookware and all possible batterie de cuisine accessories and appliances, to the beautiful living room and dining room, which have been furnished in hand-made elegance as well as style, blending perfectly with the Mexican ambience. Multiple sets of fine table linens, dishes, glassware, and flatware assure a beautifully-set dining room for any meal or party. A CD/entertainment system and extensive music collection, as well as television, are available for your pleasure. Good reading is promised by well-selected libraries in both the living room and casita. There is a half-bath/powder room off the living room. All add to the luxury and charm of this wonderful home.
There is also the reading room/ studio between the living room and casita for your creative projects. The casita completes the ground floor; it is a study/extra-bedroom with high-speed internet access, cases filled with greatly varied books and a queen-sized pull-out sofa/bed for the occasional extra guest. The casita has an ensuite bathroom with shower. Both the dining room and the casita open privately onto the ground floor patio through separate doors.
Each of the elegant bedrooms has a beautiful boveda (domed- brick) ceiling and en suite fully Mexican-tiled bathroom, with wall mounted magnifying mirrors, rain showers, and plush colorful towels. The master bedroom has an artist-designed, full-sized double bed complete with down pillows and down comforter, a gas fireplace, and a cable-connected TV, as well as a sunny sitting alcove overlooking the lower patio. The guest bedroom has twin beds (easily becoming one king-size when needed) with down comforters and pillows. Fine linens are provided for all beds.
For your convenience, there is a laundry room on the third floor (that is separate from the terrace) with a washer and dryer, which may be used personally or, even better, as a courtesy to you by our wonderful housekeeper. Indeed, the house is blessed with full 5-day per week housekeeping service by our treasure, Alejandra, who is as charming and lovely as the house itself and as efficient as she is understanding of all your needs. She runs the entire operation with little or no direction, is a splendid cook if you wish and is available additionally for extra comidas and parties.
And all this just a stroll from the town-center's Jardin and Parroquia, the Bellas Artes or the Instituto and Parque Juarez ,where all the charm and enchantment of old Spanish-Colonial San Miguel, coupled with wonderful modern restaurants, art galleries, art schools and shops, await your exploration and participation......
There are other properties in this superb Mexican National-Treasure Town with different features, but none that can provide the same total value in beauty, comfort and the overall memorable experience that you seek when you choose to come to San Miguel.........."La Casa of Winter Dreams" is the discovery of a lifetime. Bienvenidos!

La Casa of Winter Dreams for Total Comfort and Beauty
Year Purchased: 1996
Why the Owner Chose Centro
We chose to buy a home here in San Miguel after visiting several times and falling in love with it. Our first visit was at Christmas when we experienced the wonderful processions and posadas. It was so simple and beautiful - especially after the commercial excess of X-Mas in the US. Hearing singing and looking our the window and seeing children on our street with candles recreating the evening when Mary and Joseph were trying to find a place to stay for the night - It was magical. We were also struck by the beauty of San Miguel with its Colonial architecture, vibrant colors, flowers, beautiful people, crafts, festivities.
The Unique Benefits at this House
What makes our home special is the fact that it is in a mixed neighborhood. You will see posadas and processions on our street. You don't feel gated in to an American community. Also, our home is very well equipped because we lived there and entertained there. It is a wonderful place to walk around and there are little bodegas and restaurants in the area. Just behind us, on Prolongation Refugio, our neighbors have a small restaurant called Mariscos Landia that has wonderful fish. It is not fancy - just good food, cold beer and authentic atmosphere.
Owner's Map of Centro
We lived in San Miguel 6 months of the year for 12 years. It was an incredible experience. We were both retired and my husband was a sculptor. He had a studio in the house where he created his sculptures. And, there was a very good foundry in San Miguel where he took his pieces to be cast in bronze. There are also many wonderful galleries where he was able to show and sell his work. We collected art and filled our home with his and other artists paintings and sculptures. THere is a wonderfully supportive and vibrant artistic community in San Miguel and we enjoyed being part of it. We bought our poodle, Clicquot, in San Miguel. She is the best! And, I was involved in tennis there. There is a wonderful Pro (the best) Alan Mack, who has clinics and private lessons and improved my game tremendously. We took Spanish (I took at Warren Hardy's and highly recommend that also). It allowed us to participate and communicate and not have a language barrier. ANd, the Mexicans appreciate all attempts at speaking to them in their language. They are very forgiving. We loved every minute of every day that we spent there.
