Yes, our Condo UNIT ITSELF is Actual OCEANFRONT (unlike 80% of the other so-called 'oceanfront' listings wherein they count the condo building as oceanfront, but their unit is located on the side of the building, affording only a view of the ocean). Make sure any other condos you are considering are IN FACT RIGHT ON THE OCEAN. Consumer group research showed OVER 80% of condos advertised as 'oceanfront' or the like, were NOT. The building was on the ocean, but the units advertised as oceanfront either faced the back side, or offered just a view of the ocean. Our unit IS RIGHT THERE, literally fronting the ocean--just 50 feet away.
Ocean WAVES crash just BELOW LANAI--50 Ft.--Located RIGHT ON Maalaea Bay, Maui, Hawaii, USA. Convenient Central Maui, 20 minutes from Kahului Airport, Kihei, or Lahaina.
Accommodation is a second-floor condominium that sleeps two adults and two children/teens (not for 4 adults). One bedroom with a queen-size bed, and convertible, queen-sized sofa bed. One full, modern bath.
Quick Summary of Attributes:
You have come to the right spot to enjoy the VERY BEST OF MAUI. Our Maalaea Bay Home is very desirable due to the following features.
* Oceanfront--unlike many others advertised--WE ARE RIGHT ON THE OCEAN--with the waves beneath the lanai.
* On a quiet, low-traffic, peaceful street (aptly named 'Hauoli,' meaning happy or delightful)
* Adjoins a 700-acre wetland that is a preserved National Wildlife Refuge; supports a diverse variety of migratory birds, featuring four miles of undeveloped, sandy, uncrowded beach
* DUCTED AIR conditioning to BOTH living room and bedroom with remote control for separate temperatures in each room--unlike most others advertised, which are merely 'window shaker' units
* Largest pool in Maalaea
* Free WIRELESS BROADBAND INTERNET--work inside or outside
* Two telescopes and Bushnell binoculars for whale watching or stargazing
Detailed Background Information:
You will have the peaceful sound of the ocean crashing ashore just 50 feet from your fully-equipped, lighted lanai; a restful sound that resonates throughout the spacious living and dining areas. You will breathe in the gorgeous unobstructed daytime view of all of Maalaea Bay, Molokini crater crescent, Kihei, and Mount Haleakala. Stunning sunrises over Mount Haleakala (for those few willing to get up at that hour, it is worth it).
The evenings are just as special; enjoy the soft romance of warm breezes, the tiki-torch-lit shoreline, the sight of a CLEAR MOON-RISE over majestic Mount Haleakala, the light shimmering across the bay.
You will appreciate this one-of-a-kind location. Our Maalaea Bay Home is on the one and only residential street in Maalaea Harbor; it is called Hauoli (Hawaiian for happy or delightful) Street. Enjoy strolling down this quiet tree-lined street, listening to the birds, and inhaling the delicate fragrance of plumeria blossoms.
At the end of the road is Heycraft Park, just a short walk from our home. This is where you will either enjoy swimming in sparkling clear waters or start your walk along four miles of beautiful, uncrowded, sandy beach bordering the Kealia National Wildlife Refuge. (1/4 mile walk, or drive since there is parking)
It was established in 1992 and is home to endangered native water birds, and hosts migratory ducks and shorebirds in fall, winter, and spring. This refuge provides 700 acres of some of the last remaining natural wetland habitat in the State of Hawaii. Kealia Pond is nearly 250 acres when full. The refuge is adjacent to Kealia Beach, which is a nesting ground for the endangered hawksbill turtle.
More than 31 species of birds, such as the endangered Hawaiian stilt and coot, and migrant waterfowl and shorebirds such as the Pacific golden plover use this refuge. You can approach the refuge from your walk along the ocean, or use the roadway to access an interpretive kiosk and boardwalk along the beach and refuge mudflats.
In summer months, the Refuge Pond shrinks, and many more shorebirds congregate here to take advantage of food exposed as the pond recedes. As the pond shrinks, fish are crowded into the remaining water, making them easy prey for black-crowned, night herons.
Another advantage of the CENTRAL LOCATION OF MAALAEA BAY is the proximity of so many attractions, all within easy walking distance. You can stroll to the nearby FIVE-STAR restaurants, the Maui Ocean Center and Aquarium, the Yacht Marina with tour boats for deep-sea fishing and whale watching tours, The Pacific Whale Foundation, and the Maalaea Harbor Village shops and restaurants.
Within the Maalaea Bay community of eight condominiums, the building of Our Maalaea Home stands out as an outstanding facility with well-groomed grounds. Barbecue is a delightful experience, with three grills just on the shoreline. Relax in the large pool, while enjoying the view of the crashing waves.
Back at our home, you will find everything spotlessly clean and completely furnished for all of your needs.
The AIR CONDITIONING is brand new, and ducted from outside to BOTH the front and rear of our condominium, with INDIVIDUAL REMOTE CONTROLS for each room, affording desired, quiet comfort. FREE BROADBAND Internet plug-in cable hook up is provided for your convenience. Compare to all other units: mostly 'window shaker' air conditioning only.
We have maintained our home as a SMOKE-FREE, pet-free environment for the enjoyment of our guests. Please do not smoke on the lanai inasmuch as the smoke travels to other units.

This property is wonderfully located just outside of the harbor and with a total view of the bay. We were at the end of whale season, but enjoyed several days of watching a mama and calf playing in the bay, as well as others doing breaches and waving with their fins. Although the bath and kitchen are somewhat dated, the condo is clean and exactly as described and owners have thought of everything to make your stay easy and pleasant. They are organized, efficient, and attend to any questions promptly. They have provided all the essentials from band-aids to coffee filters, and many extras including water equipment and binoculars. We loved the four restaurants within walking distance and found the nearby Tradewinds deli owners to be helpful, fun, and providing some great local food, as well. It is a pleasure to be lulled to sleep by the lovely surf sounds and to be cooled by the natural tradewinds that blow in the windows. The grounds, barbecue area, and pool are well-maintained and a pleasure to use. Sugar Beach is located at the end of the street, and we enjoyed many peaceful walks in the morning listening to the surf and exploring the tide pools in the reefs.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We loved this place! The view from the balcony is gorgeous and we enjoyed the quiet surroundings. The location is very convenient as well. And the price is definitely reasonable. We couldn't find any other condos with an ocean view for this price. Plus the owners are friendly and helpful. All around an excellent choice for those wanting a comfortable, scenic condo, yet traveling on a budget. We are already dreaming of the day we can return!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers.

The property grounds and amenities (pool, grills) were clean & well kept, & it is in a very quiet but also very central location, it is a quick drive to almost anywhere. The condo itsef was great! The view is everything it was advertised to be and more. It is not the fanciest/most updated condo out there, but everything was clean & worked. The kitchen was well stocked (even the knifes were pretty decent!), & the beach gear was a nice touch. I believe the tv has been updated since the pictures, it is now a nice (but smaller) flatscreen. There were plenty of decent quality bedding and linens provided. The only downside was the bed - it was fine for me, but my husband (who is dealing with some back problems right now) was miserable on it. The owners were great working out details & answering questions, we really appreciated that - thanks so much for sharing your condo with us!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have stayed in six or seven different complexes in Maui and this is the absolute best. Clean and quiet, close to both Lahaina and Kihei. Staff always in the area and always ready to answer any questions we may have had. We did not see many whales but we were just out of season. We would have no hesitation recommending this unit to friends and associates. Hopefully we can return next year!! We had a great holiday to Maui. We loved the quiet area of this condo complex. The grounds were nice as was the pool. It was a great central location to all areas of Maui which we loved. The unit was nice but could definitely use an update (mostly the rugs). The unit was wonderfully stocked and we really enjoyed the beach gear (chairs/cooler). We loved the view of the ocean from the lanai...so magical. The owners were very easy to work with. LOVED MAUI!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This was our 3rd time to Maui and we loved staying at this ocean front condo. We've stayed in Kihei twice before with no view of the ocean, we really didn't know what we were missing. We found we loved staying at the condo sitting on the Lanai for hours a day just watching all the surfing action right outside. You get an incredible view of the sunrise every morning and the tiki torches are awesome at night. The condo complex is quiet, relaxing and beautifully landscaped. It's a few minute walk to the shops down the road. Only negative I can say is the condo unit needs to be renovated in the kitchen & bathroom other than that it's a great place for a couple. There are tradewinds in this area but we loved them, we never ever found it cold but made it very comfortable. We would stay in this condo complex again but due to more space requirement would need a 2 bedroom.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Mahalo, Darcy & Lisa, for your kind comments. We agree that there is nothing like being right there. literally ON the oceanfront. Like you, we also have enjoyed the unimpeded view of Haleakala, except bathed in sunset colors, instead of at sunrise! While the kitchen and bath are clean and in top condition, we agree that a little modernization would be a nice touch. And don't forget that we offer our returning guests a 5% discount off any standing prices or discounts in case you contemplate any future Maui vacation. Aloha, Richard and Gwen

Thank you for the wonderful stay at your Condo & we really enjoyed it. Your Condo has all the amenities we needed on vacation and MORE ! The views from the lanai were simply gorgeous. We watched several whales with the powerful binoculars in the unit ! Our only regret was we did not stay longer. We will be back in the future for a longer stay.We will highly recommend this condo to our family & friends. With sincere regards to Richard & Gwen for making our vacation stay a very pleasant one with their kind hospitality. It was not just what they provided us with but the WAY THEY DID IT ! We really appreciate it very much. This was a Home away from home ! Shiv.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Mahalo, Shiv, for sharing your family's happiness with our condo. You hit upon one primary asset: bring just 50 feet from the ocean means our guests have an unimpeded panoramic view. Thanks to your family for the support of your son's career in the Navy Submarine Service. We support our men and women in uniform. Aloha, Richard and Gwen

My husband and I returned to Maui after ten years. We were so very pleased that we stayed with you instead of going back to the Lahaina and Kaanapali areas. Your whole street is quiet and relaxing, whereas those other areas have boomed with development and there are literally THOUSANDS of tourists crowding around those few miles of beach and inland. Besides the quiet of your area, we REALLY liked the sandy beach that goes for miles along the abutting wetlands preserve. Phil and I had the one-true-romantic-sunset-walk returning to the Haycraft Park inasmuch as we were all alone on this beautiful beach. We can see why you selected the Maalaea Bay area and we will be returning a lot sooner than ten years--and we will stay with you again. The condo is immaculate and well-appointed, and we appreciated your having recreation gear for us and binoculars and a telescope. Romantic CDs were also there--just right for our 10th Anniversary! You made us feel like this was our home away from home. Thank you, Lois and Phil DavidsonRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Mahalo, Lois and Phil, for letting us host you on this, the tenth anniversary of your marriage. We, too, enjoyed the romantic setting of the Maalaea area, and especially of our condo building, grounds, and our individual unit. Each night Eric lights the TIKI torches along the ocean shoreline, and the atmosphere from the lanai is very special. We are pleased that we got to be a part of this important milestone in your life together. Richard and Gwen

Explanation of Negative Comment. We had a guest comment on a four things that were not right for her. Rather than expose her name and so forth, we chose to leave this comment as our explanation of the negative rating. Here are the four items of her feedback, and each has been rectified (except for leaving food or condiments, inasmuch as our agent will not agree to do that). #1. no bathmat #2. living room curtain dirty #3. mattress cover not clean #4. no food or condiments were left for her and she had to go shopping right away since there was nothing to eat. This is our e-mail response to our guest, the subject title of the e-mail is: Maui Condo Feedback Appreciation Dear Mary, Thank you for your feedback about the condo. Of course we are saddened when our guests are not pleased, as we do our best to keep things in great shape. There should have been a bathmat for the tub. We will direct our rental agent to replace it. We are sure Ginger would have taken care of this while you were there if she had been aware of it. We will also have her send the curtains out for cleaning. We will direct her to have the cleaning staff launder the matress cover after each stay, which we had naturally assumed they would do. We will further ask that she direct the cleaning staff to take note of these things and take care of them before they become problems for our guests. As for food or the condiments....we do not supply a greeting meal upon arrival. But we also felt such things as olive oil or condiments should be available in the condo as a convenience for our guests. But our rental agent felt strongly that there should be nothing consumable left in the condo for safety reasons. We suppose someone could put something in the condiments that could cause illness. We know this is a remote possibility....We can't see someone vacationing in Maui ever doing such a thing, but we lost out on that argument. We do understand your frustration here. It is a pain to have to buy things like salt and pepper for a short stay. We will look into providing small sealed containers or packets that are unopened so guests are not inconvenienced. Again, We do apologize for these problems, and do appreciate your bringing them to our attention. Sincerely, Richard and GwenDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Our stay at Maalea Kai was just great. The condo is very clean and decorated very nicely. Saw many, many whales, endangered monk seal and of course TURTLES.We highly recommend this unit .Owner response: David and Susan, your experience is one of the reasons we decided to buy at Maalaea Kai--the view is absolutely 50 yard line seats when it comes to whale watching! Plus, the sweet little spot where the turtles come (near the beach-side BBQ) is a fun place to just sit and watch them. Richard and Gwen
