Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
When we found this house on the bluff overlooking the ocean, we knew it would not only be a magical place for our family to stay, but it had already been a successful vacation rental. We have improved just about every aspect of the house and garden every year and know first hand what a joy it is to stay here. Many of our clients come back year after year, and we get to escape the cold and enjoy every winter together as a family. Our property manager offers the finest service of anyone we know, and she treats our guests to the same service - lei greeting and fresh fruit basket while our housekeeper provides the tropical flower arrangements throughout the house.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The unbelievable sunsets into the ocean and behind "Bali Hai" - or Mount Makana; watching the whales spout and breach many times during the winter months; hearing the eerie moaning of the shearwater's nesting in the cliffs; daily visits from our family of cardinals; soaring Laysan Albatross right across our lawn and often a breeding pair close by.... so many incredible adventures in nature. Our home is the perfect jumping off point for exploring Kauai. With the Princeville Center only moments away for groceries, restaurants and shops, and walk, jog or bike path around the Princeville Resort; great golf and tennis close by... it has everything we need.
Becoming a St. Regis in October 2009, this spectacular hotel is a short walk away. You can walk to the public beach below or enjoy cocktails or fine dining - the views are magnificent.
Groceries, Restaurants, Shops and more - whatever you forgot to bring, you can probably find it here!
Owner's Map of Private Homes
My family visited Kauai many years ago and fell in love. Coming from Washington and Canada it was a beautiful place to thaw out, vacation and explore the culture and adventures Kauai has to offer. My in-laws spend the winter months here so they get to enjoy it even more than I!

Loved the rental home. The unit was a superb location with views of Bali Hi and Queens Bath, and the pool was fantastic. The customer service was great and Mary went out of her way to ensure we had what we needed. The best part of my trip was the hike up Napali Coast. Simply unforgettable. Best Restaurant was Tahiti Nui - it was a really fun place to go with great food - the sailfish was fanstatic! Live band was good too. Best picture of me was probably at Tahiti Nui after I'd had a few drinks. We were all a little loopy after the Mai Tai's and it made for really funny pictures. Advice for someone else staying at the unit is to really watch the ocean before even thinking about going down to Queen's Bath. It's great when the ocean is calm but very dangerous during heavy surf. Two people died there while we were staying in Kauai. It was very sad for all of us staying there. Next Trip I'll be coming back during whale season to watch for whales!!!

The Hale Makana was the VERY BEST! The views and setting are indescribably wonderful, with whales jumping and turtles swimming below in the water. Mary Paterson welcomed us to Hale Makana and was incredibly helpful to us during our stay, we can't say thank you enough for your kindness to our family. The only things we regret about our stay is that is was nearly not long enough, 10 days was way to short a time to enjoy all the wonders of Kauai, as well as the views of the mountains and the frothing ocean from the lanai of Hale Makana. We are very grateful to the Adams for sharing their beautiful Cheers,

We came to celebrate our 30th anniversary in this wonderful place with our kids and grandkids. It couldn't have been a better place to be... albatross soaring, whales jumping, geckos making their little kissing sounds... we leave with sadness and gratitude mixed in equal measures. Thank you for sharing your "hale" with us. Treasured memories go with us.
