HALE MAHANA (a restful and hospitable home) is located at the geographical center of Oahu's idyllic North Shore. Experience a taste of 'Old Hawaii' flanked by the legendary shores of Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. This small section of coast with rock, sand, and coral outcrops, is so spectacular it has been protected by the State of Hawaii as a Marine Life Conservation Area. Find out more by navigating to the owner's website under 'Links' below.
THE HOUSE has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and an elevated porch with sweeping ocean and sunset views. You will immediately relax in an open airy floorplan. Enjoy the stereo, and cable-equipped big screen TV with DVD. The fully appointed kitchen has granite countertops and facing barstools so you can talk with family and friends as you open a bottle of wine, prepare gourmet meals, or simply throw burgers on the BBQ. The master suite has a king size bed; second bedroom has a queen; and the third has two single beds.
CENTRALLY LOCATED. If you've been to the North Shore before, you'll know why return visitors want to stay in this neighborhood. Snorkeling at Shark's Cove is a 3 minute walk. Breathtaking Ke Iki beach is a 4 minute walk. We are at the south end of a 3 mile bike path which takes you past Pipeline (1 mi.), and Sunset Beach (2 mi.) In the morning, walk 2 blocks along the bike path to Starbucks, or stop at the adjacent Foodland Supermarket.
Drive south for 10 minutes and you find quaint and historic Haleiwa Town with its many restaurants, art galleries, and surf shops. Go north 10 minutes for world class golf at Turtle Bay Resort, or continue around the point to the windward side of the island and the Polynesian Cultural Center. As you explore this part of Oahu, you'll see why locals call the North Shore 'Country,' but driving time to Honolulu Airport is only 45 minutes, and Waikiki is 1 hour.

We spent a month with friends at this fully equipped home with spectacular views, a gorgeous incredibly well equipped kitchen, and great location. We cooked all of our meals and did a lot of baking and had all the equipment we needed for all types of cooking whether it was Asian stir frying or cooking a big pot of pasta. Nick was incredibly responsive to any question or minor issue we encountered. The photos do not do justice to the property and we will certainly return here. The Waialua Farmers market coop on Saturday mornings is the best place to buy fresh vegetables particularly local grown asparagus; it's a true farmer's market so if you're planning on cooking, definitely check it out.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, families with young children.

I just spent 9 days staying at this home with my husband and two daughters (5 and 9) and we had a fantastic time. The location of this home is great because it is central to the North Shore. My husband was close to his favorite surf spots and my girls and I had access to swimming at sharks cove and Turtle Bay. We have stayed on the North Shore many times and this is the first time we ever snorkeled Sharks Cove and can't wait to visit again. The home and property was clean and nice. We liked that it offered both shade and a sun deck outside so depending on what you were looking for you could fine it. We would definetly stay here again. The house sits off Kam Hwy so it is quiet as well.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

When renting a vacation home my standards are very high and my research of homes is scrutinized to the nth degree. If you are looking for a great home on the North Shore, you can stop your search--this is the place. We generally vacation in Hawaii every two years and always rent through VRBO. The location is great and the house is fantastic, very clean, and secure. Nick is so friendly, accommodating, and easy to deal with when it comes to renting this property. Nick has thought of everything a vacationing family could need (water shoes of various sizes, beach towels, snorkel equipment, DVDs, books, games, etc). The beds are very comfortable which can be tricky when renting. The information packet provided to renters is extremely detailed and useful. I could go on and on but most of the previous reviews provide the same info. The bottom line is that we had a grand time staying at this house and would not hestitate to rent it again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The location of NIck's house is ideal. It is in the middle of many beaches, walking/biking distance to the grocery store, and two local grills. The house was well stocked with needed items; towels, beach chairs, snorkel equipment, and the kitchen had everything you might need. The grill on the patio was great for cooking the fish we caught on a local charter. Nick was very helpful with all our concerns from the beginning of our plans to the end of our stay. I would recommend Nick's house to friends and relatives. If you want to enjoy a local activity, check out Uncle B's "Sunset Suratt Surf Academy". We had a blast learning to SUP (stand up paddle board). Check out Lui Buenos for a great margarita and outstanding fish tacos! There is also great food at Turtle Bay. It was a great family vacation! Mahalo Nick!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Three couples, friends and family, rented Nick's house for a week. None of us had visited the North Shore before, and Nick not only made our visit a wonderful experience, but he also sent lots of information about sites to visit and things to do before we even left home. His house was the perfect place for visiting the North Shore and the perfect location for expanding our sightseeing. We could walk to Shark's Cove, Sunset Beach, and Pipeline. We were lucky enough to meet Nick while we were there and he was again helpful and a pleasure to talk to. His recommendation to try the shrimp truck was one of my personal favorites. I can't say enough nice things about Nick, his house, and our experience on the Shore.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Beautiful home, very well appointed. The descriptions/photos are very clear, detailed and accurately describe the property. The house is ideally located for exploring the North Shore, as well as for exploring Ke Iki Beach and beyond, the tidepools, and Shark's Cove. The owner, Nick, was very easy to work with and very hospitable. The house is beautiful, clean, cozy, very comfortable and had everything we needed. I would definitely return again and again. The house was perfect for the 6 of us. We had 2 couples & 2 single friends in tow, so the bedding situation was great. Plenty of space in the common areas & we really enjoyed the 2nd story lanai. The beach access from the path was a really old lava flow that was incredible. All kinds of tide pools, fish, and crabs. The sandy beach was a pretty close walk & had amazing surf. The necessities were in walking distance. The grocery store, Sharks Cove for snorkeling and Waimea Bay. The only time we drove was to tour the other side of the island one day. Having the boogie boards and snorkel equipment was great. We left a couple blow up floaties for those that want to use them.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We just returned from a twelve night stay at Nick's home on the North Shore. After touring the whole island, I can say without a doubt that the location is one of the best to be had. We spent many days simply mesmerized by the monster waves as well as watching the whales either from the kitchen window or the roof top. We made good use of all the appliances as well as the included beach gear. When the ocean permitted, the 'beach' directly out front became our playground- hanging out, reading, snorkelling and just enjoying the North Shore. Perhaps most importantly, although we always locked up and took usual precautions, we never once felt unsafe here at Nick's home. If we do go back (I HOPE!!!) this will be the location we stay at again for certain.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Nick's house was perfect for our family trip to the North Shore. My son Andrew moved to Oahu in December of 2010 and my husband and I went to visit him last March. As we toured the island, we fell in love with the North Shore and we knew that we wanted to stay here when we returned to visit Andrew with our 2 daughters. This house was perfect for us in all ways. We enjoyed the quiet location and beautiful view that the house provided, as well as the bike/walking path on Ke Iki Rd. My daughter's would get up and jog the path, while we would use the bikes and ride to Sunset Beach, the Pipeline or Ted's Bakery. It was just a short walk to Shark's Cove (for snorkeling) or to Foodland and Starbucks. We enjoyed the hiking trails nearby as well as the short drive to the neat town of Haleiwa. The house was exceptionally equipped with towels, dishes, appliances and beach gear. We enjoyed using the snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, water shoes, bikes and washer/dryer. The rooftop deck was used daily by our daughter's for sunbathing, as well as evenings for all of us for the beautiful sunsets. The house was very clean and well-maintained. We hope to return to Oahu soon for another visit and would love to stay here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

About the owner: Aloha friends. Thanks for having a look and I think you'll really like the North Shore. I thought the beach where I grew up in San Clemente California was the best ever – that is until I came here. Now I make 2-3 trips per year. A typical day would be to walk to Starbucks, walk by Shark’s Cove; check snorkeling; walk, jog, or ride up the bike path; chores – lot’s of home maintenance when you’re by the ocean; go to the beach – biggest decision – which beach; relax at home; have a cocktail on the lanai and watch the sunset. Mahalo.
Why the Owner Chose Sunset Beach:
The reason I bought a home in Hawaii is largely attributed to my cousin who moved here when he became director of protected species for NOAA, and led conservation efforts for the Monk Seal and the Honu. All those years he was telling me about the magic of the North Shore. Then his son married a Hawaiian girl and they hosted a week's worth of festivities on the North Shore from Waimea Bay to Sunset Beach. After experiencing the beaches, beauty, and Aloha Spirit firsthand, I was hooked. Soon this home came available and my cousin went there and became my eyes and ears as we talked on the phone. After an hour of detailed communications, I made an offer and bought the house virtually sight unseen! It turned out to be the best move I've ever made and family, friends, and guests have been enjoying it ever since.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The best things about the property are the setting (quiet - set back off the highway); view of Shark’s Cove and Pupukea Marine Sanctuary; and perfect location – you can to Shark’s Cove for snorkeling, walk to several beaches, or walk to Starbucks for coffee!
