POHAKU KAHAONE (where rock meets sand) is located at the geographical center of Oahu's idyllic North Shore. Experience a taste of "Old Hawaii" flanked by the legendary shores of Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. This small section of coast, with rock, sand, and coral outcrops, is so spectacular it has been protected by the State of Hawaii as a Marine Life Conservation Area. Find out more by navigating to the owner's website under 'Links' below.
THE HOUSE has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and an elevated porch with sweeping ocean and sunset views. You will immediately relax in an open airy floorplan. Enjoy the stereo, and cable-equipped big screen TV with DVD. The fully appointed kitchen has granite countertops and facing barstools so you can talk with family and friends as you open a bottle of wine, prepare gourmet meals, or simply throw burgers on the BBQ. The master suite has a king size bed; second bedroom has a queen; and the third has two single beds.
CENTRALLY LOCATED. If you've been to the North Shore before, you'll know why return visitors want to stay in this neighborhood. Snorkeling at Shark's Cove is a 3 minute walk. Breathtaking Ke Iki beach is a 4 minute walk. We are at the south end of a 3 mile bike path which takes you past Pipeline (1 mi.), and Sunset Beach (2 mi.) In the morning, walk 2 blocks along the bike path to Starbucks, or stop at the adjacent Foodland Supermarket.
Drive south for 10 minutes and you find quaint and historic Haleiwa Town with its many restaurants, art galleries, and surf shops. Go north 10 minutes for world class golf at Turtle Bay Resort, or continue around the point to the windward side of the island and the Polynesian Cultural Center. As you explore this part of Oahu, you'll see why locals call the North Shore "Country," but driving time to Honolulu Airport is only 45 minutes, and Waikiki is 1 hour.

Beautiful Home Right There at Sharks Cove
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Sunset Beach
The reason I bought a home in Hawaii is mostly attributed to my cousin who moved here when he became director of protected species for NOAA, and led conservation efforts for the Monk Seal and the Honu. All those years he was telling me about the magic of the North Shore. Then his son married a Hawaiian girl and they hosted a week's worth of festivities on the North Shore from Waimea Bay to Sunset Beach. After experiencing the beaches, beauty, and Aloha Spirit firsthand, I was hooked. Soon this home came available and my cousin went there and became my eyes and ears as we talked on the phone. After an hour of detailed communications, I made an offer and bought the house virtually sight unseen! It turned out to be the best move I've ever made and family, friends, and guests have been enjoying it ever since.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The best things about the property are the setting (quiet - set back off the highway); view of Shark’s Cove and Pupukea Marine Sanctuary; and perfect location – you can to Shark’s Cove for snorkeling, walk to several beaches, or walk to Starbucks for coffee!
Owner's Map of Sunset Beach
Aloha friends. Thanks for having a look and I think you'll really like the North Shore. I thought the beach where I grew up in San Clemente California was the best ever – that is until I came here. Now I make 2-3 trips per year. A typical day would be to walk to Starbucks, walk by Shark’s Cove - check snorkeling; walk, jog, or ride up the bike path; chores – lot’s of home maintenance when you’re by the ocean; go to the beach – biggest decision – which beach; relax at home; have a cocktail on the lanai and watch the sunset. Mahalo.

Nick's house was perfect for our family trip to the North Shore. My son Andrew moved to Oahu in December of 2010 and my husband and I went to visit him last March. As we toured the island, we fell in love with the North Shore and we knew that we wanted to stay here when we returned to visit Andrew with our 2 daughters. This house was perfect for us in all ways. We enjoyed the quiet location and beautiful view that the house provided, as well as the bike/walking path on Ke Iki Rd. My daughter's would get up and jog the path, while we would use the bikes and ride to Sunset Beach, the Pipeline or Ted's Bakery. It was just a short walk to Shark's Cove (for snorkeling) or to Foodland and Starbucks. We enjoyed the hiking trails nearby as well as the short drive to the neat town of Haleiwa. The house was exceptionally equipped with towels, dishes, appliances and beach gear. We enjoyed using the snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, water shoes, bikes and washer/dryer. The rooftop deck was used daily by our daughter's for sunbathing, as well as evenings for all of us for the beautiful sunsets. The house was very clean and well-maintained. We hope to return to Oahu soon for another visit and would love to stay here again!

We just spent 8 days in this great house. Our first time visiting the North Shore, this house is located right in the middle. Convienently located close to necessary stores, but also walking distance to great swimming and snorkling. Our 18-month old loved the tide pools at Shark's Cove, which we could push the stroller to. The house fit all of us very well, and the King bed in the master bedroom made being lazy a wonderful chore. We will be back!

Our family had a wonderful vacation at Nick's home. Everything in the home was as described and the location was perfect. It was walking distance even with a child to snorkeling at Sharks Cove and Three Tables, and Ke Iki Beach. Nick was very helpful with information. Loved watching the sunsets. We would definately recommend this property to our friends.

I was delighted to find the house as perfect as the pictures portray it! Comfortable, very clean and well appointed! I am not sure what I was more impressed with..the master bed, the grill or the beach cruisers! We had everything that we could have possibly needed and more. Great location and Nick was a pleasure to rent from. We would definitely recommend this home...I would stay again in a heartbeat.

We chose this property mainly based on other's recommendations from this website and we weren't disappointed. Nick is ultra organized with everything from making your reservation, to the packet of information provided and always promptly responding if there are any questions. The house was just like the pictures shown; quaint, clean and comfortable with everything provided. The location is fantastic lying in between possibly one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and great snorkeling, all with in a 5 minute walk. The grocery store, and a few typical but charming eating out locations are also within walking distance. We can highly recommend the Pupukea Grill for lunch! Try the Ahi Poke or Spiced Tuna bowl - Divine! And don't forget to have an Acai bowl!! We loved experiencing the North Shore from Nicks cottage at Shark's Cove and would definitely come back. Mahalo Nick!

Nick--We had a very relaxing stay especially watching the sunsets on the upper deck. A real thrill was the show the whales put on most afternoons while we were having lunch on the lower patio. A special treat was watching the 25 foot surf cascading over the reef in front of the house. Awsome!!!! No surfing that day, but we did bike to Pipeline and Sunset to watch some contests several other times. I loved the small cove in front of the house and the rockie part of Ke Eiki beach. A nice clean house that feels very "beachy" (that's a compliment).

All the previous reviews describing this home as being perfectly located, comfortable, and private are absolutely accurate - this home is the perfect vacation home!

We have rented houses on Oahu and Kauai 3 times in the last 3 years and this is by far the best we have stayed at. The location was perfect, right next to Shark's Cove, which has great snorkelling and a tidepool area for little children to play in. Having foodland (and Starbucks!) within walking distance was a huge plus. We really didn't need to drive much at all, except for the occasional trip to Haleiwa, or so some of the other beaches, although you can easily walk or take the bikes to Waimea bay, Sunset beach and Ke Iki beach. The house itself is comfortable, with a well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, huge TV in the living room and all kinds of extras like loads of beach towels, beach chairs, picnic cooler, beach mats. Watching the sunsets and the stars from the upper deck was wonderful. No AC, but we found the room fans and sea breeze kept the rooms well cool and we had no trouble sleeping at night. We will definitely try to rent this house again, hopefully soon!
