Excellent house

Guest: Nate W. (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 04/24/12 Review Submitted: 05/14/12

The house was perfect for the 6 of us. We had 2 couples & 2 single friends in tow, so the bedding situation was great. Plenty of space in the common areas & we really enjoyed the 2nd story lanai. The beach access from the path was a really old lava flow that was incredible. All kinds of tide pools, fish, and crabs. The sandy beach was a pretty close walk & had amazing surf. The necessities were in walking distance. The grocery store, Sharks Cove for snorkeling and Waimea Bay. The only time we drove was to tour the other side of the island one day. Having the boogie boards and snorkel equipment was great. We left a couple blow up floaties for those that want to use them.

Just as we expected

We just returned from a twelve night stay at Nick's home on the North Shore. After touring the whole island, I can say without a doubt that the location is one of the best to be had. We spent many days simply mesmerized by the monster waves as well as watching the whales either from the kitchen window or the roof top. We made good use of all the appliances as well as the included beach gear. When the ocean permitted, the 'beach' directly out front became our playground- hanging out, reading, snorkelling and just enjoying the North Shore. Perhaps most importantly, although we always locked up and took usual precautions, we never once felt unsafe here at Nick's home. If we do go back (I HOPE!!!) this will be the location we stay at again for certain.

Exactly what we wanted in a North Shore home - we'll be back!!

Nick's house was perfect for our family trip to the North Shore. My son Andrew moved to Oahu in December of 2010 and my husband and I went to visit him last March. As we toured the island, we fell in love with the North Shore and we knew that we wanted to stay here when we returned to visit Andrew with our 2 daughters. This house was perfect for us in all ways. We enjoyed the quiet location and beautiful view that the house provided, as well as the bike/walking path on Ke Iki Rd. My daughter's would get up and jog the path, while we would use the bikes and ride to Sunset Beach, the Pipeline or Ted's Bakery. It was just a short walk to Shark's Cove (for snorkeling) or to Foodland and Starbucks. We enjoyed the hiking trails nearby as well as the short drive to the neat town of Haleiwa. The house was exceptionally equipped with towels, dishes, appliances and beach gear. We enjoyed using the snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, water shoes, bikes and washer/dryer. The rooftop deck was used daily by our daughter's for sunbathing, as well as evenings for all of us for the beautiful sunsets. The house was very clean and well-maintained. We hope to return to Oahu soon for another visit and would love to stay here again!

Great House, Perfect Location

Guest: Fritz (Seattle)

We just spent 8 days in this great house. Our first time visiting the North Shore, this house is located right in the middle. Convienently located close to necessary stores, but also walking distance to great swimming and snorkling. Our 18-month old loved the tide pools at Shark's Cove, which we could push the stroller to. The house fit all of us very well, and the King bed in the master bedroom made being lazy a wonderful chore. We will be back!

I was delighted to find the house as perfect as the pictures portray it! Comfortable, very clean and well appointed! I am not sure what I was more impressed with..the master bed, the grill or the beach cruisers! We had everything that we could have possibly needed and more. Great location and Nick was a pleasure to rent from. We would definitely recommend this home...I would stay again in a heartbeat.

We chose this property mainly based on other's recommendations from this website and we weren't disappointed. Nick is ultra organized with everything from making your reservation, to the packet of information provided and always promptly responding if there are any questions. The house was just like the pictures shown; quaint, clean and comfortable with everything provided. The location is fantastic lying in between possibly one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and great snorkeling, all with in a 5 minute walk. The grocery store, and a few typical but charming eating out locations are also within walking distance. We can highly recommend the Pupukea Grill for lunch! Try the Ahi Poke or Spiced Tuna bowl - Divine! And don't forget to have an Acai bowl!! We loved experiencing the North Shore from Nicks cottage at Shark's Cove and would definitely come back. Mahalo Nick!

Our family had a wonderful vacation at Nick's home. Everything in the home was as described and the location was perfect. It was walking distance even with a child to snorkeling at Sharks Cove and Three Tables, and Ke Iki Beach. Nick was very helpful with information. Loved watching the sunsets. We would definately recommend this property to our friends.

All the previous reviews describing this home as being perfectly located, comfortable, and private are absolutely accurate - this home is the perfect vacation home!

Excellent property in perfect location

We have rented houses on Oahu and Kauai 3 times in the last 3 years and this is by far the best we have stayed at. The location was perfect, right next to Shark's Cove, which has great snorkelling and a tidepool area for little children to play in. Having foodland (and Starbucks!) within walking distance was a huge plus. We really didn't need to drive much at all, except for the occasional trip to Haleiwa, or so some of the other beaches, although you can easily walk or take the bikes to Waimea bay, Sunset beach and Ke Iki beach. The house itself is comfortable, with a well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, huge TV in the living room and all kinds of extras like loads of beach towels, beach chairs, picnic cooler, beach mats. Watching the sunsets and the stars from the upper deck was wonderful. No AC, but we found the room fans and sea breeze kept the rooms well cool and we had no trouble sleeping at night. We will definitely try to rent this house again, hopefully soon!

Just made me mad

Guest: Tim (Wenatchee, WA USA)
Date of Stay: 08/23/10 Review Submitted: 09/01/10

There are vacations when you have a good time, but when it's over, you're ready to go home and get back in the swing of things. There are also vacations when you can't wait to go home, i.e. long lines, crummy weather, bad accomodations, etc. Then there's THIS vacation - when you had such a good time you're MAD that you have to go home. If you're reading this comment page, DO THIS VACATION! Nick's place is perfectly situated and so very adequate, stocked very well, and comfortable. Quiet, secluded, yet steps away from conveniences (yea Starbucks!). TV's in all the rooms (remember the teenagers), and a couple of bikes to use, so park the car. We stayed a week and went to the big city only once (Pearl Harbor) - no need to go anywhere else to enjoy the Hawaii experience. Good snorkeling, good restaurants, great beach. Bottom line - we will do this vacation again.

Great Value, Comfort and Location

Guest: Frequent O'ahu Renter (Honolulu, HI)
Date of Stay: 07/22/10 Review Submitted: 09/24/10

I live on O'ahu and know the beach rental scene fairly well since I rent frequently to accommodate family guests. Nick's website is immaculate in documenting what the property is like, the amenities and location- so much better than any other website for a Hawaiian vacation rental I've ever seen. The house is tucked away and very private, yet close to everything. We walked or rode the bikes nearly the entire week we spent there. The kitchen is the real heart of the home- big enough for several cooks- and contains just about everything you could want. Bring your computer or ipod docking station for tunes. We didn't use the tvs because this is truly an outdoor haven- we spent many happy hours on the upper deck gazing out to sea, walking along the shoreline and snorkeling at the Cove and Waimea Bay. The showers have great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The master bedroom is wonderful. The twin bedroom is very small and the queen bedroom is dark and somewhat stuffy because it faces the carport, but both secondary bedrooms are adequately comfortable and both have ceiling fans. The laundry "room" (porch) was a godsend and well-equipped. The bikes are top-notch, virtually brand new and in good repair. The beach gear (boogie boards, snorkel equipment, reef shoes) is well-used and much of it has seen better days, but I brought my own gear for my family's use and you can purchase snorkeling equipment across the street near Foodland. Nick has thoughtfully provided tips and maps to help find just about anything. He was a pleasure to deal with and made the rental process simple and uncomplicated. He's trustworthy, honest and a consummate professional. You can trust that what you see is exactly what you get.

Wonderful home filled with Aloha

Guest: Kish (Tucson, AZ)
Date of Stay: 07/04/10 Review Submitted: 07/16/10

9 glorius fun filled days in Sharks Cove... This is the perfect place to be on the North Shore. I agree with all the glowing reviews so far! My family was so happy here. This location is the perfect spot to explore from. You are a short walk to Foodland and several great morning coffee spots. Farmers markets, little shops and casual outdoor nosh spots are right there too. PLUS, the best snorkling is right here at Sharks Cove. KeIki beach is but a few steps away which is the best kept secret on North Shore. Uncrowded and the softest, coolest sugary sand. My 11 year old LOVED boogie boarding here. Bike to Wiamea, Pipeline, Sunset if you can tear away from KeIki. Hop the bus for a 7 minute ride to Haleiwa and NO parking worries ever! The home is in excellent condition and you can feel that extra care and attention to detail that comes from the owner who actually stays here himself from time to time. We found the locals kind and friendly, so relaxed. I highly reccomend this place and am greatful to Nick for being so helpful and easy to work with, and most of all for sharing his slice of paradise and spreading Aloha. PS..definitely take a surf lesson! North Shore Surf Girls is tops. Grown ups and kids alike. IT IS A BLAST!

Date of Stay: 06/18/10 Review Submitted: 07/08/10

Hi Nick, Congratulations on this wonderful find and thank you being so kind as to share it with others! We literally felt like we were in our home away from home! We were there to celebrate a graduation for my two girls and we took Grandpa & Grandma with us! We all fell in love with your home and the area! There was plenty for all to do regardless of age! There were morning bike rides & walks. Day time snorkeling, surf lessons, exploring the island & spending time on those gorgeous beaches! And lets not forget the evening luau! In making my Hawaii plans I was torn between staying on Waikiki or on the North Shore. After one day in Waikiki it was clear that I made the right decision! As they say, it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there! The North Shore is so much more relaxing! After several hours away we could not wait to get back to the "real Hawaii' to do one of our favorite things, sit on the patio, put on a good movie, listen to the palm trees sway and feel the evening breeze! Your home is well kept and well stocked. The card from Foodland saved us lots of money! The information packet you sent was extremely helpful and provided great suggestions, and you always answed my questions in a timely manner! Thank you for putting your time and effort into making our vacation everything we had hoped for! Hope we get to visit again someday!

Hello Nick! We just returned home from a 9-day stay at your Shark’s cove home. What an amazingly comfortable home and fantastic location. Your home was the perfect place to unwind and truly experience the relaxed vibe of the North Shore. Early morning strolls on the beach, bike rides to Ted’s Bakery, sunset viewing on the lanai and swimming with the turtles in Shark’s cove, – awesome! Your home is so well furnished and equipped for every need – there was even extra sunscreen if we needed it. We travelled with two teenagers who were never bored with what this area and your home had to offer. We rented a car, but found that we only used it for the odd day trip to Waikiki (only an hour away) or coastal exploring. Everything – snorkeling, diving, swimming, bike riding, site-seeing, grocery shopping, and beach-side noshing – was within easy walking distance. Thanks again for sharing your home with my family.

Pefect Honeymoon for us !!

Guest: Rick & Diane (Phoenix, AZ)
Date of Stay: 03/08/10 Review Submitted: 07/30/10

This beautiful home is perfectly situated for honeymooners who truly want to get away from the hustle-bustle, see the natural sights, and explore parts of Hawaii that regular tourists will miss. OMG -- that was how we exclaimed when we first opened the door and saw this fabulous place! Hey, the Waikiki hotels have their place, the expensive resorts also. But at this North Shore location you have a short drive (by Arizona or California standards) to anywhere in Hawaii, with the promise of a beautiful private spot whenever you want it. Can you believe this: literally a short walk to beach hiking, sunsets on tap every day, the ocean breeze your friendly companion! We will be back as often as we can!

Sharks Cove

Nick--We had a very relaxing stay especially watching the sunsets on the upper deck. A real thrill was the show the whales put on most afternoons while we were having lunch on the lower patio. A special treat was watching the 25 foot surf cascading over the reef in front of the house. Awsome!!!! No surfing that day, but we did bike to Pipeline and Sunset to watch some contests several other times. I loved the small cove in front of the house and the rockie part of Ke Eiki beach. A nice clean house that feels very "beachy" (that's a compliment).
