If you are going to Puerto Viejo, this is the place to stay! It was right off main street, behind the bakery (which is a huge plus because breakfast and coffee are right there!) The house is so secure, and so conveniently located. We have 4 children, and felt safe the entire time we stayed in Puerto Viejo. We rented beach cruiser bicycles, and this is definitely the most fun way to get around the area. Tony was in contact immediately if I needed a question answered, and when a small earthquake struck (which is a fun bonus story to tell by the way) he was quick to make sure we were all ok upon hearing of it the next morning. Maid service came half way through our ten day stay, and Shialo brought another, brand new fan for our use. The house was never stifling hot, and the huge windows along with frequent night time rain spells made the house very a very comfortable temperature. Amenities were great. The porch is great for sitting and reading and listening to all the jungle noises. Just completely fell in love with Casa Zorro, and Puerto Viejo. Thanks Tony!!

Casa Zorro was more than we expected.. I am only adding to the many positive reviews already in place. Everything needed to get in and out was sent to us prior to arrival. Very secure location. Close to Main Street for food , shopping , people watching etc. if you like Puerto Viejo this is a great house to rent.

We stayed at this property for five nights. The owner, Tony, was very helpful and offered a lot of great information. He was very quick to respond with any questions we had, offering some great suggestions for where to eat in PV. This house is not directly on the ocean, but it's only a few minutes(literally) from the public beach and a walking path (best to travel on during the day) to other beaches. The house had everything we needed, and was in a convenient location. You could easily walk to restaurants, shopping, and a grocery store. It was nice being able to sit out of the porch and relax in the morning. It was amazing how private he's made it seem, even though neighbors are in close proximity. We never felt disturbed, unsafe, or bothered at any time. We truly enjoyed our stay at Casa Zorro and would return without question.

We completely enjoyed Casa Zorro. The house is quiet, but in walking distance from the beach and the businesses. The town is lovely and the opposite of corporate. The house is not great architecture, but has everything you need. We spent the majority of our time on the deck anyway. The lock on the gate was difficult, but that is probably already taken care of, based on the speedy response we got when we locked our valuables in the safe. The drive from San Jose is an experience in itself but we are really glad we had a rental car to experience the nearby beaches (terrific) and flora and fauna. Tony was a good communicator and we were grateful that he shares Casa Zorro

Let me start this review by saying that Tony was great to deal with! He was very quick to answer any of our questions before and during our stay at Casa Zorro. We spent 8 nights here with our 8 year old. The house was very clean and we found everything to be just as advertised. We were very pleased with how big all of the rooms were. A major bonus was being able to drink the water from the tap! We brought our own travel water bottles so it made it very convenient to be able to fill from the tap to take on our adventures. The house in our opinion, was in a great location! Just a few minutes walk to anything you'd need....the beach, restaurants, grocery stores and that bakery! You must try the chocolate croissants! We loved all the wildlife that we encountered....the neighbours tree even had a sloth in it! The highlight was on our last morning, we were awakened at 5am by a howler monkey! Made leaving that much harder! If we ever find ourselves in Puerto Viejo again, there is no doubt that we would be contacting Tony for another great stay! Thanks Tony for helping to make our first trip to Costa Rica one we will never forget!

The property was in need of being freshened before our arrival but the maid(s) who came in each week were very good and thorough. The screens on the windows needed a bit of work to a few areas. The kitchen was in need of a few additional pieces which Tony plans to add. The photographs were accurate. Tony was very helpful both before and during our stay as was Shilo the property agent. The nearby bakery was all that had been described by others and the nearby Italian restaurant was excellent. We found that Costa Rica Pizza is not the same as North American and far more expensive. This area is excellent for surfing and night life in the bars and restaurants. The beach in "Town" is close by and suitable for children, very quiet during the week. A good place to relax in.

Nice house for those keeping their expectations w/i reasonable limits. Comfortable for short stays but would help if their were laundry facilities available, even just a washer for longer stays (requiring more clothes than just a carry on). Walk to everything you really need & most things that you might want. Could use some ceiling fans but the lack of A/C is not a real problem but there are times that will remind you that you do not have any. The maid service will come every 4 days for stays of over a week & is very thorough but be prepared to either give up 4 hours of your day while she cleans or prepared to allow someone you do not know in your house while you are away. There is a safe provided, nice for valuables & travel documents. Good satellite signal & wifi is nice. Also has a land line phone. Property manager is a really good guy & Tony the owner is very accommodating @ trying his best to make your stay pleasant & enjoyable.

I recently stayed at Casa Zorro with my two cousins. This was actually my first time renting a home through VBRO, so I was pretty nervous. Tony, however, was very helpful throughout the entire process and would quickly respond to my emails. As for our stay, the home is located, in my opinion, on the more quieter side of Puerto Viejo. The downtown area is about a five minute walk and the beach is literally less than 2 minutes away. All I can say is that the home was amazing and completely furnished, so we would often cook our own meals and eat out at night. We enjoyed the privacy and we would often relax, stay in and throw back a few beers when we could. In terms of places to see and things to do, you'll find a lot of attractions in Puerto Viejo. Since my cousins and I enjoy outdoor activities, we would often hike nearby or travel to Cahuita. The town does have a night life which we occasionally enjoyed; however, we would often just buy our own beer at the nearby the supermarket and drink at home. I don't know when I'll return to Puerto Viejo, but I know for a fact that when I do, I'll be sure to return to Casa Zorro. Thank you Tony and Green Management for everything

We stayed with our 3 boys, aged 8, 11 and 14, for one week. THE HOUSE: SO SAFE! It was our kids first international trip and the home was so incredibly safe, it really helped them to adjust. We felt fine to lock the door and go out for adult dinner while they stayed and watched TV at home. It was just as described, clean and the only problem we had was the master shower was just a trickle of water. We didn't bother Tony with it since we could all just use the second shower. NEVER TOO HOT! We used the fans every day, but some nights turned them off because we actually got too cold! During the day/eve, we opened all the windows (all screened, yay!) and the breeze was nice, it let in lots of light and we could see the beautiful green around us! BUGS: yes, there were some bugs, it is Costa Rica! We found 2 cockroaches, not giant ones or anything, and they were no big deal. There were tiny bugs that bit us while we slept, kind of a bummer, and we used bug bracelets and spray, but that is just going to happen. If you are not friends with bugs, you should not go to the beach for vacation. THAT PORCH! We spent a LOT of time out there. We saw a sloth and her baby in the tree next door and heard howler monkeys several mornings. The outside shower was super nice to have as well. We went to the beach every day and the shower head outside was nice and strong to blast off the sand. Also, there is a hose at the base of the shower, which is nice if you just need your feet washed off. THE TOWN: We walked 2 doors down just about every morning to the PUERTO VIEJO BAKERY for chocolate croissants ($1.75) and took them home to eat on the porch with the coffee we brewed in the kitchen. Mornings will never be the same! JAGUAR ANIMAL RESCUE ($15 ea): do not miss this! kids played with baby monkeys! They will remember that forever! STASHUS: Hands down the best food on our trip, maybe on any trip! Fair prices (all food in CR is pricey) our dinners were maybe $10-$12 each plate and $6 cocktails. Curries, incredible salad, crazy good spicy plantains. This is a must! JUNGLE SPA: Again, a MUST! Kind and knowlegable staff, chocolate body treatment and a (private) jungle shower. only $60 if you pay cash (otherwise still only $65). Only thing we will change next time is not to rent a car! It was $700 for the week, and there was no need. plus ticos drive a bit crazy! We'll take a Sansa flight from SJ to Limon and cab 30 mins to Puerto Viejo. Thanks Tony!!

There were 2 of us couples that stayed there. We all felt very safe there and it was convenient to everything. Tony was great and made sure things were set up for our late check in - 10pm. They had the lights on for us when we got there and getting in was easy per Tony's instructions. The only negative was that we never got the phone to work. Other than that the place was beautiful and we liked hanging out on the porch with a cocktail!

My wife and I just finished 5 weeks exploring Costa Rica, staying a week at 5 different owner owned places. While we enjoyed all of them, Casa Zorro was the best and coincidentally the last week! We shop for food and cook in our rentals and the kitchen was very well equipped to do just that. The house itself was clean, comfortable and decorated nicely to make one feel at home and not in a stripped down rental. We enjoyed the location....a bakery at the corner, and the main street of Puerto Viejo and the beach a stroll away. We had a car and travelled around the area, but it would be possible to stay here without a car and have walking access to everything you would need. Would definitely recommend as a place to stay and the Caribbean side as well. We felt safe, locals were friendly and helpful, and the beaches were wonderful!

We loved this house, like a home away from home, kitchen was unbelievably stocked, I cook alot and this was great, the porch was heaven, my hubbie spent most of his time night and day there, reading and relaxing. It was great to be able to open all the windows and doors and still have a secure feeling. Loved the window screen/door coverings and the security. Never turned the tv or stereo on...but it was great having them accessible not to mention the phone and wifi. We would stay here again and have told lots of people about the property. Having stayed 2 other places during our vacation, we liked this the best. Keep up the good work and much success to you in the future, Tony, you lucky dog.

This property was exactly as advertised, If you're going to Puerto Viejo it is a great location, walking distance to every part of town, all restaurants, shops, beach, bank or anything else your hearts desire... We were a family of 4 staying there and had plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and relax and enjoy this comfortable clean house. We loved the Caribbean town of Puerto Viejo, we never felt threatened in any way, the main street is a hive of activity with all kinds of sights and sounds and plenty of things to take part in..We definitely will return to that part of the world again, and Casa Zorro will be our choice for accommodations. Thanks Tony!

By the end of this month (December, 2011) I'll have stayed here for 4 months with my 2 small children and my husband. When I first arrived I didn't have a bike, but that's ok because Casa Zorro is very close to town. It's also very close to a small beach that is great for kids as a barrier is formed by reefs to curb the occasionally very rough waves. I SCUBA dive here, but haven't tried surfing yet. During the course of our stay, I have encountered several situations I was unaccustomed to (some of which scared me) and Tony was very prompt in helping, sending help from the management company when necessary. We arrived in Puerto Viejo in August. The only things I didn't like were remedied while we had to stay somewhere else for the month of October. There were several changes when we came back with "new" couches and a security wall being the biggest ones. The only reason the place isn't perfect is because we had a bike stolen, there aren't enough towels and the cleaning lady really only comes once a week even when we confirmed twice with the property management that she would come every 3-4 days. It is our fault for leaving the bike out. The prowlers when we first arrived should be eradicated by the new wall. Granted it is less natural looking, but it beats having to shutter everything at dark and come inside at dusk. The noise from the clubs gets to me sometimes, but sometimes I like it :) I would return to Casa Zorro without question if I wasn't moving into my own place in Playa Chiquita. We're sold on the area- beach in the front yard, rainforest in the back. You can't beat it in my opinion!

Owner response: I want to thank Allison and David for their extended stay at Casa Zorro. They endured some major renovation work during their 4 month stay and never complained. I would like to clarify that the reason they had to move to another location in October was because the house had been reserved previously by another party. The bike was stolen because it was left out and unlocked at night. And just so no one misunderstands, the last part of the review about beach in the front yard and rain forest in the back is in reference to the property they bought in Playa Chiquita.

This was our third trip to Puerto Viejo and we specifically wanted to be within close walking distance of town and the beach. Staying at Casa del Zorro was perfect in that regard! Equally so, the owner was quick to respond to any and all our concerns -- the first couple of nights we had a huge number of flying termites in the house (which we initially thought to be mosquitos). Once reported, the owner had the property management fumigate and put up mosquito nettings over all the beds. Since there were more than a fair amount of mosquitos present as well, the netting was well appreciated and faithfully used. Other issues that popped up -- broken toilet handle and a fan that stopped working -- were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Tony, the owner, also provided us with cleaning service twice a week -- and the maid always did a very thorough job and was very pleasant and friendly. A most delightful surprise was the opening a new bakery just two doors away from Casa del Zorro, as well as, the close proximity to Stash’s Con Fusion. Also loved the young bicyclist who delivered fresh fruits and vegetables to our door each week. The only complaint we had was the condition of the living room furniture -- it really needed to be replaced. The couch frames were broken which made any prolonged sitting extremely uncomfortable and the numerous throw pillows weren’t so much worn as they was just dirty. For much of our stay, we draped clean sheets over the furniture. Safety is always a concern but I must say we felt very safe at Casa del Zorro. We had nary a problem using common safety precautions. Our recommendations for restaurants: Stash’s Con Fusion, Cafe Rico, Bread & Chocolate, Amimodo’s, Tex-Mex, and Las Carnidas Soda.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car

Owner response: I'm pleased to let everyone know that the living room furniture has been replaced with two sofas that are much more comfortable.

This house was perfect for at least 5 people and possibly 7. It is right around the corner from the main road through puerto viejo and is minutes to many beaches. It was very well kept and had everything you needed, kitchen supplies, towels, sheets, and cozy items such as fans throughout the house and TV and sofas. We all felt at home and were safe and comfortable. We plan on staying here again! Thank you Tony!

We just came home from the beautiful Puerto Viejo and had to adjust back to real life. We loved the house, it was spacious, comfortable, and we had everything we needed. The location is great, there is a bakery around the corner, close to town, surrounded by wildlife/plants, all in all it was just an amazing place. We recommend this place to anyone who would like to be within walking distance to anything in Puerto Viejo, including the bank, shops, restaurants, etc. Also, it is quiet and no one is making any loud or distracting noises. It is a very calming place that one can actually take the time to relax themselves. We would do it again if we had the choice to come back so soon! Tony, thank you for sharing your house with us!

Owner response: Thank you for your kind words about Casa Zorro. It is great being so close to the conveniences of banking, shops, groceries, and restaurants, yet in a quiet and peaceful part of Puerto Viejo.
