We're a homeschool family from Katy TX and take our vacations in October when the weather gets nice and crowds clear out of places. This was our first time to rent a beach house (we've been going to some cottages down in Rockport for a few years). I looked at a ton of listings all up and down the coast before finding this gem. It had a great rate compared to everything I was interested in. The house was well-furnished for our vacation. The view from the deck is stellar, and when we arrived our first evening the full moon was rising directly over the water. The house is located between two different beach access points, one is the 12 mile beach that stretches to Surfside which we found great for swimming (and we caught a bunch of whiting), and on the other side is the beach that leads to the pass which we found was great for birding and shelling (found 7 unbroken sand dollars on one walk). Due to the season, it was like we had the Island to ourselves. We're from the Gulf Coast, so are not strangers to the beach, but this was a great new experience to actually "live" there in a relaxed way for a few days. As my wife and I like to say to one another, this is a do-again kind of thing.

Eight members of our family enjoyed a pleasant week at Tuck's Landing. There was room for all to sleep but if two more had been able to come who knows where they would have slept (the sofa did not make into a bed and no blow-up mattress was evident). The bunk room had no storage except under the beds as the closet was locked. In general storage was an issue: no place to put toiletries for 8-10 and insufficient towel bars. I personally would have used hooks since space was at a premium. We purchased the linen option. These were fine although I yearned for thicker towels but then they would never have dried, Wish the beds had been made. We stay in condos all over the country and the world and never had to make our own beds. DIL thought they smelled a bit funky--maybe a combination of detergent used and the humidity. The queen size sheets appeared to be brand new. The others were obviously older and just dried and quickly folded. The kitchen was fine equipment-wise BUT 6 forks for 8-10 people doesn't work. Likewise the table only seated 6. I was disappointed to find the refrigerator and freezer reeking of fish. The whole floor of the freezer compartment was covered with a sheet of ice that probably contained the odor. Since I was on vacation I declined to defrost and clean it out. I did wipe it down before leaving but the ice was still there. There is no water hook-up to the icemaker or it is broken so bring your own ice as the ice trays are old and don't empty easily. The outdoor shower was much appreciated. It got hotter water than the master bath. The grill was convenient albeit rusty--Hey! its the beach and things rust. The deck was nice The beach--about 300 or so yards from the house is nice. The gkids loved swimming, building sandcastles and shelling. The 5 year old gdaughter learned to body surf and an indulgent gfather bought her a body board. Awesome! 2.5 year old gson flew his first kite after I got it up in the air. His face was luminous with wonder. The steep pet deposit kept us from bringing our dog who would have enjoyed the waves as evidenced by others pets. We would return if we had a smaller party--maybe four. But if the whole family comes we will seek bigger quarters.

We stayed at this beach house in July and had the best time. Location was great and the house was clean. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the San Luis area. My granddaughter wrote in the guest book and it said it all. She is only 10 and wrote a very touching note. Our dogs and family will return to this property 4 sure...:)

We had a wonderful time and the home and location were great! The family room and kitchen were much larger than we felt the photos showed! My husband loves to wade fish in the surf so it is great for him to be able to walk out the door and fish in front of the house - easy for him and I can watch him while relaxing on the beach or on the gorgeous deck over the ocean. We will be back!

We had a fabulous vacation in your lovely home. The size was perfect for us. And the view and beach was incredible. Our kids had a blast! We really enjoyed spending time on the deck watching the waves while sipping on cocktails. If there is anything we wished we had would be access to the garage to store our beach gear and toys. :-) Overall we were very pleased and made some wonderful memories! Thank you

Dear Tuck's Landing, You have a truly amazing place! The calming sound of the waves outside is very majestic and such a treat to fall asleep to. My husband, Phillip, and I could have found no better place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary! P.S. Many thanks for allowing pets! Our pug, S'mores, enjoyed every inch of the beach and loved the cool ocean!

Took an unplanned day off from work and came up to spend the day with a few family members. Walked up and down the beach several times, collected some shells and whole sand dollars! Rode the waves in a raft boat, even got tossed out of it at one point. I was able to get some great pictures of the waves, flowers, sandpipers, etc. The wind just blew and blew and the tide came all the way up to the boulders by evening. All in all it was the relaxing time I sure needed.

Tuck's Landing is an awesome place! We had everything we needed. We just couldn't get a signal on TV in living room, but no problem. We appreciated the clean comfort of home & easy beach access. We will probably come back next year.

My son and daughter-in-law rented the house for the family to enjoy July 27-30th and when they did they started a family tradition that I hope we can do EVERY year. The house was wonderful, the views and the early morning strolls on the beach that I had completely to myself were wonderful. We all totally enjoyed it. You have a wonderful home!!

What a magical place you have found here! We could not have enjoyed our time more. There were dolphins just off the beach 4 mornings out of 7. This is such a serene place to spend vacation time. Our springer spaniel has found a new love - chasing minnows in tidal pools! I think we found all the sticker burrs, so you shouldn't have any problems with those. The hose on the deck seems to need a new gasket. We couldn't turn the water all the way off. Thank you so much. * Love the kitchen supplies! Found all we needed.

What a great place you have! My son found Tuck's landing online & without knowing it has started a family tradition. We will be back!! We took long strolls on the beach, found great shells, went crabbing, fishing & took in the Strand & saw the local sights in Galveston. Then came back & enjoyed margaritas on the deck & watched the waves. Great quality time with family! Thanks for a vacation we will always remember. We stayed at Tuck's Landing the week of July 10-17, 2009. We take an annual trip to the coast and because of Hurricane Ike our normal destination of Crystal Beach wasn't an option this year. Be found TL online and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The house was wonderful!! There were six in our group and we enjoyed our stay so much that we even inquired about staying an extra couple of days!! We practically lived on the porch!! The kitchen had everything you could want. Our kids loved the bunk beds and all the DVD's kept them entertained in the evenings!! We'll definitely be back next year, but for a longer time!! Marc and Pam are great owners and answered any questions we had!! Thanks for a great and memorable vacation!! Darren and Angela Umphrey

Wow! What a wonderful vacation we have had. Tuck's Landing is the perfect vacation home. You have no idea what a special time we have had with our kids. We have 6 mo. old twin girls and a son who turned 3 while we were here. On a personal note, this is exactly what I have needed after staying at home with my twins and toddler 24/7. And, the quality time my husband has had with my son...extremely priceless. I know for certain we are definitely coming back! We leave tomorrow and it is going to be very hard to go. Thank you for sharing your home! We have had such a good time that instead of going in and packing, all I want to do is sit here and watch the waves while I/we finish our last pitcher of margaritas. The only one who I think is ready to go home is our black lab...he's pretty exhausted from all the swimming and bird chasing. Again, I am ever so grateful for this vacation at Tuck's Landing. All we need is right here! Thanks again! Lynda, Alex, Sydney, Sadie, Sarah & Dutch

We book a family 'vacation' every Memorial Day 'week'. This includes all our family members (and friends) who can go. This year our daughter wanted her boys (5 and 1) to experience the ocean and sand. We located Tuck's landing on the internet, liked what we saw and read, so we booked it for a week. It was the most wonderful time. The house has a lovely view and is only steps from the beach and ocean. We fed seagulls off the balcony. With our grandsons we gathered shells and strolled along the beach. Even though we didn't bring fishing equipment (we WILL next time), watching the fisherman and witnessing the huge fish they caught was a thrill. We intended to build a fire on the beach but were so busy, we never got the opportunity. The Tucks Landing house is probably the most well equiped kitchen we have ever visited. We were lacking for not one needed thing! The hot shower downstairs was wonderful for removing the beach from 'castle-builders' and the hose on the balcony was so very handy for the beach strollers who just needed a feet-washing. The inside of the house is decorated very attractively. I guess the only couple situations we wished were different was no TV service in the Master and no internet service. But this is vacation, right? We would strongly urge anyone considering Tuck's Landing to definately give it a try! It was a most relaxing and fun filled time.

This is not your typical beach house. It's a warm and inviting home that happens to be on the beach. Thank you Marc and Pam for allowing us to spend our 9 year anniversary at Tuck's Landing!! March 21, 2009 This was the second time I stayed a Tucks Landing. As always, I found the beach house to be more than comfortable just like it was home. The view from the deck is awesome during the day and be sure to catch the sunrise. Listening to waves at night with a glass of merlot is very relaxing too. The kitchen is fully equipt and I was able to whip up a gourmet meal for me and my friends, I love that!! Also, I wanna compliment the Tuckey's on the new living room furniture...its very nice!!! I enjoyed myself so much I already have my dates for this comming July booked. Thanks for such great memories, Chad M.

The house was very comfortable. Everything we could possibly need was available to us. Although tropical storm Eduard was coming in, we enjoyed passing our time drinking on the porch. The storm made for great shell hunting. The only turn off to the trip/house was the abundance of freakin' mosquitos!! We were eaten alive! To count we went through 5 cans of Off and 3 citronella candles! Unfortunately this will keep us from returning as our daughter had a reaction to all of her bites.

The place was great. Rain on and off the first two days that lead to cool weather. House was nice and neat. The beach out front at low tide was great for finding sand dollors and shells. The mosquitos where really bad. Bring repelent and a fogger to help. We had the beach to ourselves most of the time. Hope to return soon.

The house was everything I was hoping for. The house was stocked with everything I needed down to tupperware! It was spacious and comfortable. A half block walk down the street opened into what really is a private beach, it was not crowded at all. We enjoyed the patio deck sipping mixed drinks and feeling the cool breeze of the water. The only turn-off to the whole thing was the massive amounts of mosquitos!! The city sprayed for them three times while we were there but it didn't help. Be sure to take plenty of OFF. Citronella candles helped as well.

We were able to make a last minute reservation the week of Memorial Day. And it was one of the best vacations we've had in years! Very relaxing, the house has anything and everything you'll need and it is much nicer than the typical vacation rental. The Tuckey's were so nice and accomodating and our family had the most wonderful time. This area is amazing for finding huge shells on the beach and for privacy! We had the beach to ourselves a couple of days. The front deck is great for drinking morning coffee and the view is fantastic! We'd return in a heartbeat and can't thank the Tuckey's enough for sharing their great beach house! Thanks so much! The Hartt Family (& Scooter too)

It is a lovely, well appointed home that is wonderfully equipped for meal preparations. Staying in your home allowed our adult children and their spouses to be with us for Christmas. What a wonderful treat for all of us! The time here was quiet, relaxing and most enjoyable! We fished, took long walks on the beach, collected shells and enjoyed the local seafood many times over! What a wonderful time we have had at Tuck's Landing! My girlfriend and I have known each other for seventeen years - from college to working career ladies to turning fabulously forty! We spent our last trip together when we turned 35 in Cancun, Mexico. This year we opted to stay close to home but far enough away to call it a vacation. We felt so at ease here and relaxed. The ocean view from your home is beautiful. The sunsets were amazing and my girlfriend told me the sunrises were totally awesome. (She is the early riser!) Thank you for sharing your home with us on our very special weekend together. Our friendship is a treasure of gold to us and we have really enjoyed our stay.
