First off, let me say that the owner was terrific. Always immediately available via email to answer questions. Made sure we got there okay on the first day. Gave great advice on where to go and what to do. Second, the cabin. What a great cabin and what a great view. You'll love sitting in the hot tub, looking out into the mountains... not at other cabins or thick trees. The amenities were great, the location is great, the drive was fine in a Corolla. All in all... this is a great rental, a great owner, and a great vacation spot to get away from it all. We will be back soon!

My girlfriend and myself went to this cabin for a MUCH needed vacation after a long HOT summer in Florida. I will emphasize this, as you travel up the mountain to get to the cabin you notice MANY other cabins which have views of basically the surrounding trees and the "interior" portions of the mountain. HOWEVER, once you turn down the small road that leads to this cabin you are immediately in what appears to be a wide open clearing on the mountain. As enter the cabin you can see the back porch through the glass doors and windows. It is as you walk towards the back porch through the spacious and beautiful interior of the cabin that you realize just how open the space around the cabin is. Once you step onto the porch you are met with breathtaking views of the treetops below and mountains in the distance and blue sky above. TRULY AWESOME!!!!! The cabin itself has everything you could ask for. The best is spending the day traveling through Blue Ridge or Ellijay or seeing waterfalls or just staying inside the cabin and relaxing. Then as your day comes to an end you can relax in the hot tub and soak in the beautiful views from the back porch. I routinely used the hot tub to ease my mind and my body after a day of hiking. Ed was available to answer any and all questions. Very friendly and professional. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CABIN FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A GREAT PLACE TO RETURN TO AFTER EXPLORING THE NORTHERN GEORGIA MOUNTAINS.

Maria and I came up from Florida to view the mountains, lakes and streams and to visit Helen Georgia, that famous Alpine Village nestled in a small valley not too far south of the North Carolina Line. We almost didn't do or see any of the things we started out to do and it was because of THE CABIN~~~Better known among its afficianados as "The Bears Lair"! Beautifully appointed, situated on the top of a small mountain with a view of distant mountains and valleys. The Hot tub on the porch was a delight we shared every morning as soon as we got out of one of the most comfortable beds we had ever slept in. Those distant mountains early in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee and sitting in the tub was the best way ever to start the day~~ needless to say it became a morning ritual! We did force ourselves to leave THE CABIN and do a bit of sightseeing but the return to our cabin in the afternoons was as pleasurable as the touring. Fully equipped for preparing our own meals and relaxing in the evenings in front of the telly or back out on the porch in the tub to watch nightfall over those majestic mountains. On our last day I watched a huge mother bear and her three roly poly cubs walking around the front of THE CABIN eyeing the trash can and wondering what goodies it might contain..I must have made a small noise as I moved the curtain away from the front door to get a better view..Mom huffed a couple of times and she and her cubs left at a rolling gait that quickly took them away from view. Our week at THE CABIN was over much too soon but we have promised ourselves to return to these pristine forests and let this wonderful mountain top cabin do its magic as it melts away tensions, worries and anxieties. We honestly hated to leave this beautiful and peaceful mountain top retreat!!

What a great family trip. We stayed at the Bear's Lair Memorial Day weekend and it was the perfect place for our family of 5. The cabin was spotless, the kitchen was a great size to cook in, the rooms were cozy, and the view from the hot tub was breathtaking. Ed was wonderful to work with,and we cant wait to visit again soon. Thanks so much :)

We had the pleasure of staying at the "Bear's Lair" just last weekend, and I cannot tell you when I have had a more relaxing and fabulous time in a place with such a serene setting! The cabin was totally equipped with everything we needed, and even the 2 year old had a blast! The leaves were turning colors, and falling right before our eyes. The view from the back deck in the morning while the sun rose over coffee was more than any of us ever expected! There were beautiful deer frolicking about, and the hot tub was an over the top bonus, so don't forget your suits! Ed was readily available, and answered emails, back and forth with any questions we had, and it could not have been more a more perfect and quick get-a-way (as we live a mere hour and a half away!). Ed, we can't thank you enough for offering such a beautiful place with such beautiful surroundings to us for rental. We are already planning our next adventurous trip to the mountain "Lair"! :-}

The view is fantastic. We loved our stay at the cabin. The view and location are better then described on the Website. One thing to note, is how easy the fireplace turns on and off. Had stayed at other locations and each one had a unique process to make work...not this one...very easy to operate. It was extremely quiet at the cabin..let's face it, we are there for the view and relaxing and this cabin had it all. Large living room area that was comfortable. Strong recommendation.

I went to the Bear's Lair from in Sept. 2010 for a night. I wish I had stayed for much longer. This place has the BEST view from the balcony and hot tub is amazing. It was spotless clean and had all the amenities needed to cook and dine properly. I'm just now booking my next trip up there this coming March 2011.

My girlfriend and I visited the Bear's Lair for a couple days and we loved it so much that we decided to stay an extra night. Its a very relaxing getaway that I recommend for any couple. Its also good for the whole family. It has a beautiful view of the mountains with plenty of friendly wildlife in the surrounding area. There is plenty to do in and around Blue Ridge. We hiked on the Appalachian Trail which is a lot of fun with beautiful scenery. There are also plenty of rivers where you can go fishing, tubing, kayaking, etc.The cabin itself is very nice and kept very neat and clean. It has a great hot tub on the back porch which allows couples to relax and take in the scenery. I recommend the Bear's Lair for anyone looking to get away from it all for some rest and relaxation. I definitely give my stay in the Bear's Liar 5 stars.

Our stay at the cabin was fantastic. I am not sure where to start to describe our stay. Some of the highlights are a 15 minute drive (because I drive really slow) up the mountain to the cabin. When you get there what a view. The property is in great condition and with an extra room downstairs this place can hold alot of guests. We only had 4 so we really just used the living room and master. The jacuzzi was great for the morning and to watch the sunset. There is so much to do there you need more then a week. As long as you dont mind driving a little you can hit multiple trail walks, tubung (is the best for $5.00), waterfalls, fishing. you name it it is in BlueRidge and right down the road from the cabin. We are from Flroida so the weather was so much better, warm in the day cool at night. Some things that my girls will never forget (11 & 9) are the nature walks at Fort Mt State park with the most amazing overlook i have ever seen. We drove up the road to Elijay for walmart and starbucks nightly and you have to eat at Colonel Pool's BBQ I want to drive every weekend for that BBQ. I suggest that you are ready for long days and quiet nights. He has internet now but it was better with no internet, TV with basic channels, cell phone didnt work to well, and lots of board games. That sounds bad but that us what made our stay so much better. Just being in the cabin with your family with no distractions, playing board games, a movie, chasing lightning bugs, and waiting to catch a glimpse of a bear or deer, made our stay so special. It really brought my family together and made our stay so special. We have been to Tenn mts., Beach resorts, up north trips, but this was amazing. The train in BlueRidge was alot of fun as well. There is so much more I could say but i am running out of words to type. You cant go wrong staying with Mr.Garcia which has great communication and at the bottom of the mountain is the guy who cleans up around the cabin so he is available for any issues as well. Stay was GREAT and a trip my family will never forget.

We stayed at the Bear's Lair the week after Christmas. We were very fortunate to find such a nice cabin for our first stay in a mountain cabin. The cabin was clean and the view was beautiful. We especially liked the location of the cabin which is between Blue Ridge and Ellijah. Both had quaint downtowns which were lovely. Many scenic drives are close by too. Another great thing is that Ed was always reachable for any questions, concerns, or recommendations. Thanks so much!

This was our first cabin visit with the kids and it was fun. The cabin is a very nice retreat from regular life with a nice view of the mountains from a very spacious deck that holds a hot tub. The cabin is spotless, cozy, near many outdoor attractions and peaceful. We went horseback riding and white water rafting while there - recommend Rolling Thunder on the 'nanny' although it is a longer drive, worth the drive for the river views and great staff. Would like to visit during the cooler days to see the mountains in the fall or perhaps the winter.

The Garcia cabin in Bears Lair is far more adventurous than the online pictures suggest. For starters, as you arrive at your destination at the base of Cherry Log Mountain, off of highway 5, you ascend to your cabin on a slightly larger than a single lane road, winding to your destination at the top. The experience is similar to driving through the hilly and winding California mountains - but without the dangers of driving off into deep ravines. And if you are a flat Lander, you might get an occasional pop in your ears. Once inside the Bears Liar, you are met with a pleasing mountain view as you gaze out and beyond the back porch. The serene view is coupled with a refreshing cool breeze blanketing your body. If you're not in a hurry to unpack your vehicle, take the time to enjoy the rockers on the back porch as your senses drink it all in.. For the adventurous ones at night, a walk on the mountain roads will be met with the sounds of the night creatures hiding in the dark shadows - all of which will juice up the imagination of all your childhood fears; but there is no real danger in the darkness. For a more mature escape, try sitting in the hot Jacuzzi with your favorite drink, as the multitude of fire flies entertain you with their illusion of flickering stars in the deep blackness of space. For the novice hiker and angler, the "Benton McCay" trail is a delight which leads to the best fishing places. Our favorite fishing lake is nestled out of view from the mountain roads, but only a ten minute walk from Bears Lair. To the delight of our children, we caught 4 average brim which after cooked, made an excellent appetizer for our first time fishermen. For the bass master, they are out there waiting for you! Whether horseback riding or tubing down the beautiful Taccoa River is what you desire, you have come to the right place. One can also enjoy the scenic 1 1/2 hour scenic train ride through the mountains. Finally, after an eventful day, the comfort of a good nights' sleep is enhanced by a symphony of night creatures with the door wide open to the cool night air.

We stayed a weekend here last year and we just had to get back. The "Bears Lair" is one of those places where you really feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. The cabin is beautiful and we love the Blue Ridge area. Last time, we rode into town and ate at some very nice restaurants. This time, we brought some groceries and we didn't leave the property for the entire weekend! We will be back!

Our stay at the cabin was perfect! The cabin was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. The view from the deck and hot tub is breathtaking! It was so beautiful and peaceful, I slept on the porch one night and woke to the birds and sunset. We even saw deer! We went rafting on the Ocoee one day and then boating on Lake Blue Ridge the next day - both great fun and a very short drive from the serenity of the cabin. I would highly recommend this cabin for a quick weekend getaway or a longer vacation. The most relaxing weekend I've had in a long time ~ that mountain air does wonders for your peace of mind!

WOW, what an amazing and relaxing getaway. My wife and I have stayed at this cabin twice now, and we find something new and exciting about ourselves, as well as the surrounding location each time! This cabin is so relaxing, it really allows you to clear your head of the everyday hustle and bustle of Life. The cabin is in pristine condition. The pond is full of fish and is a very tranquil place to get away and bask in the sun. We will soon be planning our annual trip (3rd time) again, and we can not wait!

Our stay in this cabin was everything we were expecting, and more. It was very comfortable and the basement had a third bedroom in it (which was a pleasant surprise, since we have two teenagers). We especially enjoyed the mountain views while relaxing in the hot-tub.
