Montana Wilderness, Riverfront, Luxury, Log Cabin Retreat
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Get a real taste of the Rocky Mountains of western Montana in rustic luxury (yes, it is possible to have both!) at this private, log home retreat on the Swan River. Enjoy magnificent views of the Swan Range of the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the east and Mission Mountains Wilderness to the west. This retreat overlooks a spring-fed wildlife pond and wetlands, with a private nature trail through the shade to the edge of Swan River, well-known for its fly fishing and clear, cascading beauty. Elk, native trout, great blue herons, frogs, deer, ducks, geese, and moose are among the frequent inhabitants. Located in a region of dozens of pristine lakes, waterfalls, rivers, and mountain trails, there are ample opportunities for recreation.
This retreat is perfectly situated for wildlife viewing opportunities and the enjoyment of the outdoors. Holland Lake six miles away you can take a short hike to a waterfall, enjoy a romantic canoe or kayak paddle in a glacial cirque, go horseback riding, and end the day at the historic Holland Lake Lodge for dinner or a drink. Other outdoor opportunities include fly fishing the Swan River, mountain biking the myriad of trails and roads on public lands in the region, huckleberry-picking, cross-country skiing right out the door, and - for the more adventurous - wilderness excursions into the Bob Marshall and Mission Mountains.
A scenic drive to the north past beautiful Swan Lake brings you to Big Fork, a unique town on the edge of Flathead Lake where art galleries, boutiques, cafes, music and drama festivals, restaurants, and lake boat tours can round out your experience in the region. (If you like to stay closer to the cabin, there is a little country store and cafe 2 miles from the cabin, and 6 miles further is a full grocery with gas station and fresh-baked bread on Thursdays and Sundays).
Just one-and-one-half hours from the cabin to the north is Glacier National Park and Whitefish Ski Resort (Big Mountain). Twenty-five minutes to the south is Seeley Lake, where additional recreational opportunities such as waterskiing, birdwatching along a canoe trail, golfing, and holiday celebrations are available.
The master bedroom has a queen size log bed and an eye-popping mountain view and private bathroom. There is another bedroom (full-size and twin beds) and main bathroom upstairs, plus a huge carpeted bedroom/recreation room (two twin beds) with its own wood stove downstairs. Relax in the cozy living room with leather and log furniture under a vaulted ceiling. A full kitchen with new stainless steel appliances will allow you to cook a mountain feast in luxury!

Our family stayed in this cabin in August 2008. It was very beautiful and very accommodating. The cabin is furnished very nicely and the scenery is awesome! I would recommend this cabin to all who want a nice place to stay and to just take time out from the busy day to day duties we all have and just sit on the back deck and look at the gorgeous views. We had an excellent time.Did you find this review helpful? Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Scott is a Wildlife Biologist at the University of Montana in Missoula, and Lisa is an educator who works for the Extension Service. We have a son and a daughter who love to visit the cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Swan Valley:
Scott's wildlife research takes him to the Swan Valley and Glacier National Park regularly, and we happened across this property and thought it could serve a dual purpose- as a getaway for us during the 'off-season' and as a vacation rental the rest of the time.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We love to watch birds, hike, pick huckleberries, boat on Holland Lake, and discover all that nature has to offer. We also run to the visitor journal we keep on the counter, we so enjoy reading about the adventures our guests have had while staying at our place.
