This is an AMAZING house at a rate that would make you crazy to pass it up -- so we didn't!!! Boy, were we surprised at how it exceeded our expectations. Everything you read above is accurate...and then some. The owners have it pretty well stocked for those who "eat in" while on vacation, which is a big plus. Most of all, the place is so clean - and there are lots of beautiful geckos to help keep the bug population down. Best of all, it's a short walk down the street to the BEST entry for the Wai Opae tidepools. We snorkeled almost every day -- this area is a natural wonder and the neighbors who live here year round do a great job of protecting it for future generations. The deck at Ka Lani Kai is huge and there are great lounge chairs if sunning is your priority. We ate every meal out on the deck. One night, we saw the biggest shooting star, EVER!! This is a great area for stargazing as most people don't have lots of lights on. You get the serenity of your own natural pond, that rises with the tide and it's full of fish that expect you to feed them with the food provided. If you need internet connection -- you're all hooked up! We don't watch TV on vacation, but we can say that the Hawaiian music channel is a great asset. We just slept in the master bed, but it was comfortable - great linens, gentle breezes and ceiling fans to keep the air moving -- PARADISE! This is our second time in "Vacationland," and once again, thanks to the owners and the property managers, it was like coming HOME. Mahalo Nui Loa for sharing your wonderland for a fantastic week! We tell everyone (including the guys bidding on our move) about Ka Lani Kai and the great people who share it with others.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Although the overall description given on-line was accurate, the quality, detail, and cleanliness of the place left a lot to be desired. Lumpy foam pillows that need replacing, twin beds were squeaky, dirty cupboards (things had spilled from the counter and obviously had not been cleaned up), hundreds of ants in the shower head ( that was a unpleasant surprise!), storage in bathroom had hair left on shelves, had to wash wine glasses before using because they were so dirty.... I was expecting better....Owner response: Aloha from the managers at Ka Lani Kai and Mahalo nui for taking the time to write your review. We take your comments very serious. I wish you had contacted me upon your arrival and I could have dispatched housekeeping immediately to rectify this situation. We certainly understand your complaints and concerns and would have been more than happy to do whatever we needed to make this right for you. Upon your check out, you called to indicate the problems. However, I would have appreciated a call from you at check in instead of check out. We apologize profusely that you were disappointed. If you find yourself on the Big Island again, we would love for you to contact us and we will make sure you are more than taken care of. Aloha, Mark and Ron with Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals

Great place, thanks! Our boys, 3 and 11 loved the fish. Like all the attention to style in painting and woodwork. Kapoho Waiopae tidepools and adjoining cove are great, you'll see many beautiful fish. I swam with a huge turtle and an octopus! Hiking out to see the hot lava is spectacular. Aloha all, Tidepools are SO close and have many fish to see. When headed towards the ocean, continue straight down a trail (rather than go to the parking lot to the left) and WAH LAH a great/close spot to swim and snorkel. Ka Lani Kdai is definitely a apot/home to recommend to anyone anyway, clean, comfy, well stocked kitchen, quiet neighborhood and gorgeous. Full moon shining on the Palms while sitting on the porch when we first arrived and sat on the great porch. Warm Pools are unbelievably great! (from our guest book)Did you find this review helpful? Loved this place! The layout is very warm & homey and the amenities were great. Nice towels and linens made me feel at home. The kitchen is large enough for groups to gather round and talk story while preparing the meal of the hour. The deck is big and expansive as it wraps around from side to side....all the while you can enjoy the tilapia cruising the fish pond. Don't worry about the coqui frogs... after a bit of "Wow" factor & the amazement of the decibel level at which they sing....they will actually serenade you to sleep. Ceiling fans in each of the rooms helped keep the house cool when the humidity was at it's worse. I live only 40 some miles away from this place but will certainly be returning again. Now....the snorkeling....this place has the most "ALIVE" coral on the Big Island. You will see the most colorful arrangement of sea life in your short time under water. This is a must stay place and do not miss out on the snorkeling......way better than Kona side.....sorry Kona-Side peeps.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you for sharing this amazing place. We have 2 young boys, ages 3 and 9 and they loved watching the fish swim around in the pond. Loved the snorkeling and it was my 9 year olds first snorkeling trip. We spent a great amount of time in the water and traveling down the Red Road. Kaimu black sand beach is a must! We loved Ka Lani Kai and thought it was a wonderful place to spend outside the tourist spots! Peaceful, relaxing and perfect for our family! (from our guest book)Did you find this review helpful? Beautiful location! Enjoyed our stay and the peacefullness and listening to the ocean at night and star gazing. Kaleo's in Pahoa is a GREAT place to eat! Go early without a reservation but after 6:00 p.m., you need one. Mahalo!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We love this place! So close to the tidepools whre we snorkel every day. Loved feeding the fish. Ate most of our meals on the deck. 3rd or 4th time we've been here for a week. Next year I'm thinking a whole month, truly! Weather was beautiful the entire week we were here. Be sure to swim the channel in the tidepools. Wonderful fish and coral. Saw a huge turtle!I swam all the way to the far reef and was astounded at the beautiful coral. (submitted from our guest book)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We are just back a week now, the transition is interesting .... we did very much enjoy our stay at Ka Lani Kai. Loved the small pond at the house, the neighbor's dog Kai and the very sweet couple who clean and look after the house. They were very friendly, and helpful. The area was all that we hoped for and more ... the tide pools are wonderful, the black sand beach, hot pools, Issac Hale swimming, Kalani Retreat Center's activities, Pahoa's uniqueness, the end of the road lava walk .... all inspired a deep sense of relaxation, enjoyment and a letting go of constraints.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
