We have had one visit to this cabin, and I hope it won’t be our last. We enjoyed everything about it and our dealings with the owners. When we got there and saw the cabin for the first time, we were thrilled. It was very pretty, homey, comfortable and had the most magnificent view. By the second day, both the people and the dogs were so at home, we felt like we had always visited there. We were looking for a quiet rustic get away. A place for hiking, walking, thinking, and just plan relaxing, and we found it. We were there in the winter, so we saw sun, rain, and a lot of snow, which meant we didn’t get to hang out on the porch like we would have if it was warmer, but wow, it is a great porch. I would highly recommend this cabin, and be sure to bring your camera.

We stayed at this wonderful cabin for two glorious days. It felt like home to us...albeit one with an amazing backyard! We loved playing foosball and ping pong indoors. Outdoors, we hiked and enjoyed the hot tub. The kids loved finding treasures on the forest floor and discovering animal prints. Our dog, Vida, loved the wrap around deck. Truth be told, the deck was one of my favorite features of the house. The setting is superb, the neighborhood is nice and quiet, and from the backyard you feel like you are the only people around for miles and miles. Thanks so much for sharing your fabulous home with us.

We were looking for a pastoral, affordable and comfortable place for my husband, myself, two dogs and two adult kids to convene for Thanksgiving; renting the Mi-Wuk cabin for five days was perfect. Warm, welcoming, and full of soul, this was a place to be at home. The cabin is livable and rustic, with everything you could need but without the trepidation that some rental properties can generate. We parked and didn't leave...walked the dogs each day from the house into the forest (off leash!), cooked, read, played ping pong and games. It's not that there aren't a zillion activities in the area, which Owner Daniel describes in his comprehensive notes--but our group wanted to keep it simple in an easy, quiet and beautiful place, and we did. My son took us to dinner one night at Villa D'Oro in Twain Harte which was very enjoyable, and I did the shopping at the market in Twain Harte on the way in. Very good. Daniel is an accessible communicator and prompt emailer, and his written house and area information were clear and detailed. We lacked for nothing, and there was no disconnect between the listing description and photos, and our expectations and experiences. I felt we were being trusted with a very neat place at a generous rate...it was easy to become attached--and to talk about coming back.

Went up on Fri night to attend wedding on Sat. and then home on Sunday. Very sad I could not stay longer. Very envious that my sister is staying two more nights.... I could just sit and sit on that deck and do nothing but drink champagne....haha Very comfortable and clean. Because of a bad hip, I couldn't really do any hiking around, but with that deck I didn't need to...And, of course, I was restricted by time...I absolutely hope to be going back next year and bringing my sisters and nieces for a girls weekend....The cabin is ideal for it.......Thank you Daniel for sharing your cabin......

We stayed at this cabin at the end of July, 2011 and had such a fantastic vacation. The cabin is charming and homey. It has a fantastic wrap around deck that is fully enclosed (so overly adventurous dogs can be allowed off leash without having to worry about them) with amazing views of the Stanislaus National Forest. It's close enough to the little towns around to be easily accessible but still feels like a forest getaway. The owners are wonderful, welcoming people who offer loads of advice about surrounding attractions and a whole box of maps in the cabin to help with the planning! There were only two of us and our dog on this trip but we are planning on heading back there with the whole extended family next summer. You'll be planning your return as soon as you leave as well!

Everything was Great! I went with my Son and his fiancé for four days and five nights. Because of the great location we managed to see a lot. Monday was Columbia, Moaning Cavern, Big trees; Up Ebert's pass and back on Sonora pass, a long but beautiful drive. Surprised to see so much snow left In June! Tuesday was Yosemite Valley. Wednesday we went to San Francisco, an easy 2.5 to 3 hour drive and saw Pier 39 with a boat tour of the bay, Chinatown, Haight-Ashbury and more. Thursday I hung out on the deck most of the day. My son and his girlfriend went into Sonora and Jamestown to do some shopping and exploring. They also went to a ghost town at Chinese Camp. I really enjoyed the peace and quiet on the deck while they were out. We got a kick out of the variety of books and music at the cabin. My son especially liked the Encyclopedia of Star Trek, which he had when he was a kid. Pinecrest Lake is a short drive. There is a wonderful outdoor coffee shop there that I really enjoyed in the mornings. The restaurant at the Strawberry Inn is a great place to dine. It is close to the entrance to the lake. Breakfast on the deck at the Inn overlooking the river was excellent. We had a great time. My son and his fiancé had never been in that area and they loved it. I had never seen San Francisco. It was amazing. I can't say when, but in the words of Arnold, "I'll be back". Thanks for the use of your cabin. It's a beautiful place with everything needed and a perfect location.

We enjoyed this comfortable, clean cabin with eveything you need! The photos do not give this A-frame the credit it deserves. The property is quiet, beautiful, with stunning views from the deck! Our favorite time was morning coffee on the deck splashed with sunshine. The hot tub was a nice treat! We have 2 dogs and this was an easy place for all of us to enjoy some R & R. I grew up coming to Mi Wuk and find it so relaxing a far away from our normal grind. The cabin is close to many hikes and our favorite local spot "Alicia's Sugar Shack". Although it is usually crowded, we found Pinecrest very quiet this weekend and were able to let the dogs off leash the whole hike around the lake.

The accommodations were beautiful and home-like. Besides being in an area with great views, trails, and drives, we loved our time at the cabin. It was wonderfully stocked with great books, fun games, and best of all, a large deck to sit and gaze out at the many-mile view. We used the impeccably clean hot tub nightly as we remembered the fun things we had done that day and made plans for the next day. We’ve stayed at many properties, but this one is our favorite. Thanks Daniel for opening your home to us. We’re looking forward to returning as soon as we can.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here! The atmosphere was very comfortable and home-like, and there were so many fun "extras", like board games, DVDs, books, and foosball. The hot tub was great, the kitchen was fully stocked with staples and supplies, and everything was extremely clean. The owner gives visitors a very thorough cabin guide - "the screed" - with really helpful info about things to do in the surrounding area and how to make the most out of your trip. We will be returning!

A very casual, warm cabin whose owners want you to have a good time. Absolutely beautiful view of backyard national forest from the large deck. A great value if you're not looking for a fancy resort (5 stars reflects the features in comparison to the price in this review - not a 5 star high-end hotel), but rather a comfortable ski cabin or base for summer activities like hiking or fishing. Dog and kid friendly too. Take advantage of the local info provided by the owners: sledding locations, hikes, shopping, etc.

When my family (my husband and me, our two small children, and three dogs) stayed at this cabin, it felt like we were staying at a friend's house. It had everything we needed for a 4 day getaway -- cookware, family-friendly board games, foosball, ping pong, darts, new and old movies, great music, books for everyone, a hot tub, toiletries, sleds, bikes, etc. You name it, and it was probably there. Each morning, I'd take the dogs for a hike in the adjacent Stanislaus forest, and then enjoy my coffee on the deck while taking in the incredible view. We spent most of our days sledding and playing in the snow, and then headed back to the cabin in the early afternoon. The owner, Daniel, is wonderful -- available for any questions you might have about the cabin or the area on the off chance that the answer was not included in his screed! My only complaint is that Daniel wasn't able to make it snow while we were there. Ha. I wouldn't have changed a thing. We'll definitely be staying here again.

This charming cabin is in the most idyllic get-away mountain setting I've ever encountered. And from the moment you open the front door you are welcomed by all of the many shared memories and gatherings it has hosted for it's family and it's guests. It easily becomes 'home', as you return from your ventures out exploring the diverse offerings of the forest and lakes and quaint towns. Our family enjoyed every aspect of our trip and we will be returning often.

The cabin in Miwuk was exactly what we were looking for: a rustic, quiet, and secluded place where we could get away from the city and relax for a couple of days. We got that...and more! The wrap-around deck is awesome, and they're not kidding when they say the forest is your backyard... It really is! The place makes you feel like it's just you and nature out there, with the added comfort of a cozy cabin in which to rest your head. We look forward to visiting soon!

As I sat at the deck enjoying the brightness and peace of a soft August afternoon, I couldn’t help but think that the view of the National Forrest in the middle of winter, all covered in snow, would resemble the setting surrounding Hans Castorp, of Thomas Mann’s Magic Mountain, while he lied down at his balcony and let himself feel the pleasure of the pure and simple fact of living. This place is, in other words, fantastic.

We felt immediately at home in this cozy cabin! I wanted to hang out on the deck and enjoy the incredible forest "backyard" view, listening to the birds and studying the beautiful trees, but there was so much to enjoy in the area that we had to pull ourselves away and explore. We had a great time fishing and sightseeing, checking out the small communities and the casino, and then returning to our little nest in the woods. We highly recommend it! Thanks, Daniel and Jamie.

We just came back from a wonderful weekend in MiWuk, made perfect by Daniel and Jamie’s cozy cabin and their hospitality and help. The house is perfect for a relaxing getaway, although the location is so perfect for all kinds of activities, that we didn’t have much time to relax in the cabin at all! We had easy access to skiing, snow-shoeing, sledding and all kinds of snow activities, and we never had trouble coming back to the warm house for a hot chocolate by the fireplace because the location of the cabin makes it easy to access even when it was snowing hard.We can’t wait to come back in the spring, summer, and fall to check out how the incredible view from the wraparound deck changes with the seasons! Thank you Daniel for your help and for letting us stay in this very special place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 N stay. Hanging out, going sledding and going cross-country skiing at DR. Julian (11) - I really liked the green sled and playing darts. Chris (8) - my favorite part was sledding, playing in the snow and going in the hot tub. Edith and Marcel enjoyed tubbing, taking a walk on the path down the hill and hanging out.

We've just spent a lovely weekend at the MiWuk Cabin. My only regret (apparently shared by many other commenters here) is that we didn't have a few more days to enjoy this wonderful place. The cabin instantly feels like home, and even considering the huge number of fabulous things to do in the area (a helpful list of which was provided by our gracious hosts), it's tempting to just stay put and drink in that amazing view from the back deck. Thanks for a great weekend--we hope to return soon.

We have stayed at Daniel & Jamie's cabin on numerous occasions over probably a 15 year period but haven't been able to for about the past 5 years. Recently (Oct 09) we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit again and it felt like coming home. The house has what I think is about the best location in all of Mi-wuk Village--quiet cul de sac on the far southern edge. When you are out on the back deck all you see is national forest. The toughest part about staying there is that you are torn by the decision on whether to stay and enjoy the comforts of the house and its peaceful tranquility or go out on the gazillions of awesome hikes in the area, visit Yosemite and/or lots of other activities. We've been at the house in the fall, winter and spring and have loved every visit. We love traveling throughout California and beyond, but this is the one place that we come back to over and over.

We stayed here for three days and had a fantastic time. I wish we had stayed for four or more days, though, since as it was we didn't do too much hiking or explore the area much. We mostly relaxed on the deck or in the hot tub, looked at the stars, and played foosball. The location is great, not so far from San Francisco that it's a chore to get there, but far enough away that you feel that you can disconnect from your everyday life. I definitely recommend highly!

My wife, daughter, son, and I drove from Minnesota to come to the MiWuk cabin. Based on the internet description and pictures, our expectations were pretty high, but when we arrived, the reality of this cabin-home far exceeded what we had imagined. The location, high in the conifers of the Sierras and on the edge of the Stanislaus National Forest, could not be more tranquil and beautiful, and the large deck affords unbelievable views from morning to night. This cabin-home is spacious, clean, and very nicely furnished and equipped with all you would need and "extras" (hot tub, ping pong & fooseball tables, and books) you will enjoy. You immediately feel very much at home, but also on vacation. The location allowed easy drives to Yosemite NP, San Francisco, regional vineyards, and to several other interesting local places, but we also enjoyed relaxing days and evenings at the cabin. We did not know the proprietors previously, but they are very gracious people, as you will come to know from communicating with them and from all that they offer in their cabin-home to make sure you enjoy your stay. This is a special place! Glenn and Sally

We just loved the cabin. The boys had foosball tournaments; I read and relaxed on the back porch. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils for all our cooking needs. The master bedroom was lovely with windows as portals to the forest. I thought it quite romantic. The "kids" room was well stocked with beds and comforters. All in all, a great get away and we look forward to visiting again.

We originally booked 3 nights but the moment we walked in the door we knew we wanted to stay longer! What a view from the back porch! Having the Stanislaus National Forest for a backyard is fantastic. Excellent bird watching from the back deck- well, really from any window of the house. The house is rustic, but lacking in nothing. It has an extremely comfortable feel. The owners have provided everything to make your stay enjoyable. From maps and local information to books and board games/puzzles and anything you might need to cook/prepare meals. All in all it was a great summer outing. Perfect for hiking, fishing and scenic drives. Not to mention great bbq's on the back deck and then soaking in the hot tub under the stars! We are already looking at the calendar for the next time we can get out of the city and head to the Mi-Wuk house.

I rented this cabin for almost a week based on the price, the location, and the comments posted on the VBRO website. I agree with the comments below that this is a great place to take a family for a summer vacation. It is quiet, roomy, comfortable, and in a beautiful location. The price is very reasonable because it is "rustic" unlike a fancy condominium, which suited us just fine. For the week we spent here, it felt like a home away from home. Even the neighbor's dog came and visited us!

I had the opportunity to spend a weekend at Daniel's cabin in May. Here's 6 reasons why I will return at the soonest opportunity. 1. Location. The drive to the cabin was short of 3 hours from SF, CA. Far enough to feel like we were getting away, yet close enough to not be exhausted by the road. 2. The cabin itself is clean, spacious and comfortable. The amenities provide you with everything you need to spend a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Fully furnished kitchen with stove and fridge and everything you need to cook at home. 3. The owner's care. Daniel provided us with an orientation guide that included everything we needed to know about the cabin, and the activities in the area, helping to ensure we'd have a great time. 4. The view (and the tub!). The view from the cabin's backyard is stunning. The cabin's backyard is made for pictures. The landscape beyond the property rolls and looms for miles without the distraction of billboards, wires or even homes. 5. The deck. The backyard deck provides you with plenty of room to sunbathe, eat dinner or just hang-out. 6. Great value. Rates are below-market.

This MiWuk cabin is perfect for one or two families, summer or winter. We enjoyed a beautiful summer weekend here, with so many great suggested outings in the guests books. But I think the hot tub, internet access, two full bathrooms, and the gaming tables will be fully enjoyed in the winter snow. Plus the view from the backporch is epic, and I bet sledding is great down the hill right in back of the house! We will return in Winter to test this theory out!

A fantastic getaway. The view from the rear deck overlooking the Stanislaus National Forest is very relaxing. Even better when the stars come out at night: you can set up your telescope and explore the Milky Way, or just look up at the sky from the hot tub. Lots of places to explore along Highway 108. Our favorite is the Old Strawberry Rd., where you can take an easy hike thru the woods along the South Fork of the Stanislaus river with your dog off the leash, and picnic by the river.

We've been staying at Casa Miwuk for about ten years now, and we always have a wonderful time. In the winter, it's just 30 minutes to Dodge Ridge for perfect kid- friendly-yet-still-challenging-for-adults skiing. Summertime in Miwuk is perfect, hot but not too hot, close to two rivers, lots of lakes, golf, tennis, hiking, and Sonora pass is less than an hour away. The house will absorb two families with as many kids as you've got. Very quiet location. The back deck is one of the best features as the house is right on the edge of the national forest so you can sit and look out on the valley below and the Milky Way above. Last summer, we stayed up late and lay on the deck and watched the shooting star showers for hours.

I stayed at this great house with a friend and we spent as much time as possible on the incredible deck overlooking trees and mountains. The hot tub was a delight, and playing foosball was a perfect saturday evening activity after spending the day exploring the woods nearby. This is a really comfortable, toasty house and the owners seem to really want to share the beautiful surroundings with others. I can't wait to go back!
